[customspoiler=Basic FAQ]
-Basic Info/Overview
For those that don't know Club Nintendo is Nintendo's loyalty program of sorts. When you buy a Nintendo Console/Handheld, or a Nintendo published game, you get a pin that you can enter online to earn points. These points can then be redeemed for games, accesories, and collectable items. If you earn enough points in a Club year (300 for gold and 600 for platinum, which each have their own reward), you also receive a free bonus only available to a select few. You can read the full list of eligible titles, as well as their point value, here.

-How do I get coins for digital purchases?
In order to earn coins on any digital games you purchase on Wii/WiiU/3DS/DSi, you will first need to link you Club Nintendo account to your system. Instruction for doing so can be found here.

-Can I play the Wii games on my Wii-U?
Yes, but as of now, only in Wii mode. Native Wii U support might be added later on, but will most likely require the typical $1-$1.50 fee to transfer over.

-How do I play Wii games on Wii U
You will need to enter Wii mode on your Wii U. Instructions on doing so can be found http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/wiiu/en_na/features_wii_menu.jsp?menu=wii_shop&submenu=wup-wiishop-ht-redeem-code"]here[/url].

- If I don't spend coins for the entire year long period, do they carry over?
Yes, you can keep your coins past the Club Nintendo year they are redeemed in. However they only count toward gold or platinum status for the Nintendo year (june 31st-july 1st) they are redeemed in. After two years old points do expire, so make sure to spend them before then. You can check Coin balance information while, logged in, at the top of the page.

- Is there a list of previous rewards for people who accumulated a lot of coins? Similar to Square Enix's Ultimate Tier?
The extra rewards for Club Nintendo are for those that accumulate enough points to hit Gold or Platinum status (300 and 600 points, respectively). If you reach the required number of points in a year, Nintendo will automatically send you your reward, with no cost to you or your points.

- Does the list of eligible games update as the games come out or on some sort of schedule?
The list will be updated before the game comes out, do to things like Pre-Purchase bonus points. Any game you can buy, should already be on the list and able to redeem.

- When do they typically announce the prizes for Gold and Platinum?
Generally at the end of a Club Nintendo year, but don't expect it anytime soon. Usually it will take at least several months for them to ship it out.

- Is there anyway to enter multiple copies of the same game or device?
They have an option in the settings to make your account a family account, which means it can have sub-accounts that allows you to register multiple copies of games. The coins from all the sub-accounts all end up in the same main account coin collection.

- How does the site show what balance of coins you have to spend versus your total towards Gold/Platinum?
At the top right of the screen you can see the coin counter. The big number is your total coin amount, and the bar underneath is your progress to gold or platinum status. The number needed to advance is displayed directly above said bar. Redeeming your coins does not affect this counter, as it is only reset at the end of the year.

- How can I tell if a code is valid without redeeming it?
If you want to check if a code has already been registered, without registering it yourself, all you need to do is try entering the code while you are logged out. It will tell you the name of the game, as well as how many points it is worth, without activating it.[/customspoiler]

Let me know if I missed anything or if something breaks!

FYI, I did some quick math. As a rewards program, this isn't so bad. Let's say you got exactly 600 points from purchases so as to get Platinum. On average, a full retail game is 50 points (40 for registration, 10 for post-play). Using that, we get that you need to register 12 games. Each brand new full retail game is about $40, so we'll say that you spent $480. Now let's say that a good rewards program would be 10% back, so Nintendo 'owes' you $48 now.

600 coins is worth about 3 games, and each game costs about $5 on the eShop. $48 - $5*3 = $33. Now, 2 of the Platinum rewards were worth $30, and the rest were between $15 and $10. Let's say it averages at $20. $33 - $20 - $13. So assuming that a good rewards program gives you 10% back, Nintendo falls a little short. Of course, you can get full retail games for less than $40 and still get 50 points from them and the three games you got with the 600 coins give you a few more coins each.

To put this in perspective, I am a Sony Rewards member. Now, there are various levels of perks (like whether or not you use the PlayStation CC, whether or not there's a deal going, etc), but the basic level is $1 spent = 1 point received = $0.01 received. So that is only 1% back. Of course, you can use those points to buy PSN credit rather than just purchasing from a set list of digital games, and you can also buy some physical merch with those points.

My point with this isn't to defend the quality of the CN rewards, but rather to explain that it is, economically, a pretty fair program.

Thanks Nintendo. I am platinum, but I don't own a 3ds or a wiiu. DOH!
:shame:

You fix that come black Friday.

I apologize to all of the complainers in this thread that I mocked before the rewards were announced. Had I known, I would have never done so.
It's OK, sometimes you just have to learn from experience.

I'd rather have a game than a fucking doll.
Real men play with dolls.

Ok, would the best value be Game & Wario?
If you have DKCR then yeah, it looks that way to me even though it's probably my fifth choice.

Can't decide between Donkey Kong, Game and Wario, and Earthbound...any advice?

Donkey Kong is best value but

Game and Wario also gets you the 300 digital promotion points

Earthbound is one I want to play...but its only 10 dollars and I feel like it could go on sale, and i could get it then.

There already hitting ebay for $15 bucks lol, the digital codes.

Probably will be able to cop one for $10, maybe who knows

I wish there was more than one retail eShop game for each platform, but I'm happy otherwise. Having instant access to the drawing mode in Game & Wario makes it a great choice.

I'd say Donkey Kong if you want the biggest bang for your buck. Game & Wario has some nasty reviews if you look it up (61 average on Metacritic), and Earthbound's not a lot of money to begin with. I guess it depends on if you've played DKCR on the Wii and/or are a fan of that type of game. Only reason I'm not getting it is because I'm too much of a fan of physical copies, especially with Nintendo's way of handling digital.

I always say to get the game you're most likely to play, as that should be the most important value; not cost. I think anyone getting G&W strictly because it costs $30 and comes with $3 worth of digital credit is making a mistake (especially if they use the credit towards another game on the list).

If you'd like a more specific answer: DKC -> Earthbound -> Game and Wario (then shift each game up and down according to your likelihood of playing)

The entitlement is just oozing from this thread.

I'll likely get DKCR3D as it is the best bang for your buck. I'm more interested in Earthbound and NES Remix but I can see those going on sale fairly soon.
You use the word 'entitlement' as if it is a bad thing. Having supported Nintendo and filled out marketing surveys we are indeed entitled to rewards. These are not on par with what they have previously offered.

Let's hope that the lack of N64 VC offerings is a sign that the Wii U versions are around the corner. I'd imagine people would get pissed if they got an N64 game for a reward and then had to pay an upgrade fee a few weeks later.

Which is an opinion.

I think it's better than the offered before as I don't want game posters, figurines, soundtracks etc. and don't have much interest in replaying old VC games.

Having a newish game like DKCR that I hadn't got around to buying is by far the best reward I've gotten from Club Nintendo. It's the only reward that's actually been something I wanted.

For others, none of the games appeal to them or they love gaming knickknacks, and this year sucks for them.

Hopefully next year, if they keep the rewards around, they do a variety of games like this and knickknack options.

My point with this isn't to defend the quality of the CN rewards, but rather to explain that it is, economically, a pretty fair program.
1) This only works on a conceptual level.

2) Many of the games offered were previously free (Ambassador), on sale (NES Promo), previous CN reward (most), used in a number of promotions (DK), so depending on how active / much support you give, your selection is significantly smaller and in turn, the program holds less value.

3) Other programs like Sony Rewards also offer a massive amount of points for less. You can see a movie with a friend like Deliver Us from Hell and get 400 coins, which is just 100 points shy of a $5 PSN card. Sony also offered 250 points for the E3 event (like 10 minutes of work) and 250 points for seeing the stupid Sex Tape site + sharing something (like 3 minutes of work) this past month giving you another $5 in points. This is different than say Nintendo, which might give you 10 (1:20 what is required to get a game) for downloading a game and filling out a survey.

4) There is no real consistency in value. The best values for platinum members are either DKCR or Game & Wario, which makes the other prizes look cheap. Like Dr. Luigi and NES Remix are worth half as much, yet cost the same amount.

5) More and more Nintendo has been adding value to the promotions and devaluing every other aspect of the program. Assuming you don't exploit something and try to do it legitimately on some level, you're going to be hard pressed to reach platinum with only $48 spent, yet I could take that $48 and buy Mario Kart 8, which gives me not only more expensive games, but higher quality ones than elite reward members get. Whats the point of caring about the coins / hitting platinum if you can redeem a single game for a better reward, buy a system and game for a better / more relevant game or buy 2 specific games for $30 back in credit? I understand Nintendo can't always offer this level of quality, but it's hard to go "I'm glad I hit platinum," when I can get a better game and $5 in credit (enough to buy some of the games listed or get a huge discount like 33% or 50% off others) by buying a single game.

I can't believe people are emailing Nintendo whining about this.
When did we hit a point where we should be complacent and never complain? I mean, some people might not care for the physical prizes / not like what was offered, but at least they were unique. With games I can outright buy, Nintendo has not only limited my choice, but has effectively punished me for being a bigger supporter. How is that NOT a valid complaint?

So should I pick up NES Remix, or get DKCR3D and try to trade it? Only games I'm really interested in is Earthbound, and Zelda II. I already redeemed Game & Wario on my extra account.

I was excited to see Earthbound as a reward, then disappointed that it's for platinum.  Doh.  Well, on the off chance someone has plat but only wants a gold reward, hit me up.

Also, on the other off chance that anyone has a Paper Mario VC code that they would be willing to trade for a Super Mario 3 VC code, let me know. :) (traded, thanks!)

I hit platinum this year & next year without getting points for the second Wii U yet.

All the Nintendo games that I get points from have been purchased new from retail stores like Best Buy/Target. I would tell you how I've had such "success" (if u can call it that) but you came out like a
condescending b!tch
Sorry, I didn't mean to come off sounding condescending. I didn't mean for it to sound that way. I am just really curious what other people are doing to get to platinum.

So, making judgements without reading a single email sent to Nintendo, and attempting to equate a focused critique (of a program that asks for customer feedback no less) with whining. There's gotta be some sort of medal for this, right?

Anyone have any recommendations between NES REMIX, Dr. L, and Earthbound?

Leaning towards The first two and away from Earthbound purely based on retail price of these digital items.

When I read "I don't even have a 3DS or Wii U" my first thought is you bought a bunch of $1 clearance DS and Wii games at Sears or at a yard sale and then want to get a physical item you can sell for $50 on ebay. Now you get some code you can't use. I'm sure that's not the case with some people but I have no doubt plenty are in that situation. Well, go buy the hardware or sell your shitty code. You still have a couple weeks to get a free game with MK8.

I could see people complaining in their post play surveys but emailing does seem like a bit much.
Funny, I think the opposite is true. Maybe it's just me, but I think it's extremely immature and confrontational to express my dissatisfaction with Club Nintendo by posting it there.

Tell us in your own words why you choose to purchase this game off the eShop:

Dear Nintendo, I "purchased" this game because it was part of your insulting 2014 elite reward selection. Blah blah blah, I hate this program and your company. Blah blah blah, if you keep doing this no one will support Club Nintendo. Blah blah blah!

Much love,

Vic~

Drawing pictures? I must be blind :/ I don't see the appeal in that lol
It's entertaining to see what sorts of drawings people do on the various topics show up in that mode, especially for references that the person obviously didn't understand. Plus, there are weird fanboy things going on there since users submit their own topics.

I'm sure there's already an app or PC game like that? Is the game really worth it JUST for that?

I'm a bit conflicted....I don't have a WiiU yet (maybe around Black Friday...Smash Bros Times), but I own DKCR Physical (and prefer to have the cart), but I think Mario and Donkey Kong may be alright but not sure, wasn't too crazy about the original GBA one and never played the DS one....looks alright. I may trade for a Gold Reward+ bundle fodder or something or money of course haha. Does anyone really recommend Mario and Donkey Kong?

I thought M and DK was fun, but you have to like puzzles and don't expect it to remain interesting for more than a couple of hours.

Surprisingly the one I want the most is likely Earthbound (no WiiU though) and Wario Land 2. Ah I loved the Wario Land games...the first was one of my favorite Gameboy titles.

So I must admit that nintendo has made me a liar. I was certain I would have been happy with anything Nintendo would give us for free, and I would have been if there was anything physical.
So I guess this year I'll join the complaining.

Wtf am I supposed to do with one of these shitty (they're not actually shitty, it's just i can buy these) rewards? I hate downloadable games, and no one ever wants to trade DL games for physical games. Man...what a waste of coins. Could have saved those to sell and get some money back at least...

Why? That's what the section "Other thoughts or comments" are for. The survey's purpose is to collect your opinion be it good or bad.

What is it about people complaining that makes others want to jump on them for it? If someone's unhappy, let them speak. Is Nintendo going to cry and stop making video games if someone sends them an email because they didn't like the unique rewards?

I bet some people would like that outcome, though.

Can Dillon's be saved to an sd card? I have a regular 3ds now, but I'll probably be upgrading to an XL for smash bros. All the Wii U games I either have or am only interested in if they make a disc version (nes remix).

EDIT: Eh..I wanted Dillon's for the sake of having it. But apparently it's all about the touch controls, so I'll almost certainly never play it. Other than that, I like NES Remix but I want it on a disc, dammit, and since Japan got it on disc I was going to wait for a disc or go without I don't download games on the Wii U because of the very small hard drive (too lazy to learn how to replace hard drive, and I have a bunch of saves on the current one. I like all my saves in one place. Would rather delete for more room than upgrade and have two). I guess I could get that fun looking water game, but it seems so iphoney. I'll probably get nothing and give my cousin whichever game he wants.

I do still wonder though, if one upgrades to a new 3ds, do you lose the downloaded game?

I just emailed them now too.. I listed some of the complaints we are all talking about here.. and pointed them to gamespot.com 's artilce that they are getting bad press about this. I suggest you all do the same if you are displeased.
What form are you using to send your complaint?

I'm going to complain about this nonsense too. Literally have all this shit they offering already.

All 3DS games are downloaded to the SD card and you swap SD cards when doing a system transfer. Only DSi downloadable games are saved to the system itself.

Yes, but you're going to need to do a transfer. Once you do a transfer you can simply redownload it from the eShop as if you bought it there in the first place or just use the SD card.

I think it's a perception issue. Some people really like the rewards, even the awful ones* and don't want to hear people whining. Especially when many people consider Club Nintendo a free program or suggest that it's better than the "nonexistent" M$ and Sony promotions. I said it once and I'll say it again, I think the biggest thing working against Club Nintendo is just how easy it would be to make Club Nintendo awesome. Like would it have been so bad to swap NES Remix for The Wonderful 101 (this wouldn't help me and is just an example)? The game sold poorly, can be found for as much as Game & Wario, was a MK 8 game like Wario in Europe and would lessen the "well I can get a game that cost $40 or I can get one that costs $6... decisions, decisions" debate.

* I actually liked the badge collection because a lot of thought / effort went into it and it wasn't bland like an OST.

For Miiverse, there isn't much like that besides just browsing the Miiverse itself. I also enjoyed the games, which has this great puzzle game that is part jigsaw puzzle and part Picross.

Plus, there's this awesome minigame where you play WarioWare on the GamePad while keeping an eye out for your mom since you're supposed to be asleep:

Also, there is the $30 in Digital Deluxe Promotion points that you'll get to potentially push you over the edge for a $5 code.

See, Patchwork and Gamer look great but that's about it from what I've seen.

Is there a limit on the number of gifts that i can pick?
If there wasn't I think we would all be a lot less disgruntled.

They did a variety last year, but I already owned all the games so got the Majora's Mask OST. And the problem isn't just that the games don't appeal to them, there is a real chance they already own or have owned the games. That's a legitimate concern too, and not simply a matter of opinion.

Maybe they should just reward with eShop credit--- how many would complain about that?

I usually end up assuming it's due to some misguided idea that what they like is going to diminish in personal value or disappear if others don't like it - that, or you can get a sense of superiority by complaining about complainers.

As for the actual rewards, I was kinda hoping they'd at least give us some of the Ambassador games. I would kill for Sacred Stones on my 3DS, and I'd definitely choose it over a physical reward despite loving those (still have my pin collection, posters, etc.).
