[customspoiler=Basic FAQ]
-Basic Info/Overview
For those that don't know Club Nintendo is Nintendo's loyalty program of sorts. When you buy a Nintendo Console/Handheld, or a Nintendo published game, you get a pin that you can enter online to earn points. These points can then be redeemed for games, accesories, and collectable items. If you earn enough points in a Club year (300 for gold and 600 for platinum, which each have their own reward), you also receive a free bonus only available to a select few. You can read the full list of eligible titles, as well as their point value, here.

-How do I get coins for digital purchases?
In order to earn coins on any digital games you purchase on Wii/WiiU/3DS/DSi, you will first need to link you Club Nintendo account to your system. Instruction for doing so can be found here.

-Can I play the Wii games on my Wii-U?
Yes, but as of now, only in Wii mode. Native Wii U support might be added later on, but will most likely require the typical $1-$1.50 fee to transfer over.

-How do I play Wii games on Wii U
You will need to enter Wii mode on your Wii U. Instructions on doing so can be found http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/wiiu/en_na/features_wii_menu.jsp?menu=wii_shop&submenu=wup-wiishop-ht-redeem-code"]here[/url].

- If I don't spend coins for the entire year long period, do they carry over?
Yes, you can keep your coins past the Club Nintendo year they are redeemed in. However they only count toward gold or platinum status for the Nintendo year (june 31st-july 1st) they are redeemed in. After two years old points do expire, so make sure to spend them before then. You can check Coin balance information while, logged in, at the top of the page.

- Is there a list of previous rewards for people who accumulated a lot of coins? Similar to Square Enix's Ultimate Tier?
The extra rewards for Club Nintendo are for those that accumulate enough points to hit Gold or Platinum status (300 and 600 points, respectively). If you reach the required number of points in a year, Nintendo will automatically send you your reward, with no cost to you or your points.

- Does the list of eligible games update as the games come out or on some sort of schedule?
The list will be updated before the game comes out, do to things like Pre-Purchase bonus points. Any game you can buy, should already be on the list and able to redeem.

- When do they typically announce the prizes for Gold and Platinum?
Generally at the end of a Club Nintendo year, but don't expect it anytime soon. Usually it will take at least several months for them to ship it out.

- Is there anyway to enter multiple copies of the same game or device?
They have an option in the settings to make your account a family account, which means it can have sub-accounts that allows you to register multiple copies of games. The coins from all the sub-accounts all end up in the same main account coin collection.

- How does the site show what balance of coins you have to spend versus your total towards Gold/Platinum?
At the top right of the screen you can see the coin counter. The big number is your total coin amount, and the bar underneath is your progress to gold or platinum status. The number needed to advance is displayed directly above said bar. Redeeming your coins does not affect this counter, as it is only reset at the end of the year.

- How can I tell if a code is valid without redeeming it?
If you want to check if a code has already been registered, without registering it yourself, all you need to do is try entering the code while you are logged out. It will tell you the name of the game, as well as how many points it is worth, without activating it.[/customspoiler]

Let me know if I missed anything or if something breaks!

I usually end up assuming it's due to some misguided idea that what they like is going to diminish in personal value or disappear if others don't like it - that, or you can get a sense of superiority by complaining about complainers.

As for the actual rewards, I was kinda hoping they'd at least give us some of the Ambassador games. I would kill for Sacred Stones on my 3DS, and I'd definitely choose it over a physical reward despite loving those (still have my pin collection, posters, etc.).
Reported to the FBI

Should i just go ahead and get the animal crossing posters? I have 3420 coins but if they are doing away with physical awards all together then maybe i should just go ahead and bite on the poster set.

Most of the other available stuff is lame...so your call there...the physical items seem to be less and less and not restocking.

I'm thinking about that too. No point in keeping all these coins if I'm not getting any physical posters or knicknacks.
I guess I will just sell the coins from now on, unless the games being offered are download only games like wii u art academy or NES remix 2 (for 100-200 coins...not 600...).

My brain is telling me I should get G&W, higher (currently) purchase price, plus much less likely to be offered as a standard CN reward in the future.

My heart is telling me that regardless of the actual MSRP / cash value, I should just get Earthbound because it is Earthbound with no additional out of pocket cost, though CN may toss it as a standard reward in the future anyways.

My heart has no logic and it may win this decision.  I may be able to snag a disc copy version of G&W down the road for like $10-15 anyways, maybe...

Any chance of being able to sell Game&Warior or DKCR3D for decent cash?
No. You would be lucky to get $15.

Get Earthbound. You'll actually get your moneys worth.

Maybe they should just reward with eShop credit--- how many would complain about that?
I said a couple times that that is the way they should go. Just have the codes redeem for points that go towards Eshop credit just like digital game purchases do with the digital deluxe promotion.

There would still be bitching from the collector/Luddite types who oppose digital games. But frankly, fuck them. Nintendo is selling like shit due to being stuck in the past and behind every industry trend and need to be more forward thinking and do things to push the digital age. They're dependent on selling software to shrinking numbers of people that by their hardware each generation unless they hit another success like the Wii (every console has sold less than the one before it from the SNES on other than the Wii blip). Getting more people buying digital games that can't be sold/traded/lent out is key to keeping their profits viable in future generations, regardless of how much those folks, and CAGs in general, hate that trend.

I was in close to the same situation as you...I wanted NES Remix and Earthbound, but the fact that DKR costs twice as much as either of those made me go with it. I picked up a Mario Kart 8 code for $10 in the trade forum and will get Pikmin 3 for the DDP promo, then I'll get $5 back and buy one of those other two games as well as make around $30 for selling my sealed Pikmin 3 retail copy. There are certainly a lot of options around with these promos.

I'm scared to renew my codes for gold/platinum this year all at once because of how many good promos they had this year.

Does the codes expire? I sold off my wii u and gave my 3ds to my gf. Say I grab a game code and get a wii u in a year(waiting for the inevitable Zelda bundle), will I still be able to download said game?

So, making judgements without reading a single email sent to Nintendo, and attempting to equate a focused critique (of a program that asks for customer feedback no less) with whining. There's gotta be some sort of medal for this, right?
I..that..that doesn't even make a comprehensive sentence. But if it's anything like the whining in this thread I bet those guys are rolling in laughter.

Edit: also those little trinkets they give away are like..what? 2-3 dollars on amazon

Oh if you want to resell it the whole thing's shit and probably as much of a reason as any that Nintendo dropped physical rewards.
Actually, that doesn't really make sense. Yes, Nintendo "loses out" on the crazy eBay values... but so do other manufacturers. Instead, Nintendo should encourage the behavior that causes lots of people to attempt to reach Platinum so they, too, can re-sell the stuff on eBay for a profit. Instead of devaluing the process, Nintendo should embrace it and use the system to Nintendo's advantage because people are going to do it anyway.

(If they want to fix something that's "broken", stop people from scamming codes off of used games like at Gamestop. Maybe they could make the codes on the interior of the shrinkwrap or something that is guaranteed to be disposed of.)

So after thinking about it for a bit, my only real complaint/suggestion is that games like this be available on a more regular basis. I got DKCR today, but I would happily spend 300 or 400 coins to also get NES Remix, or save up to 600 points to get another 3dS game. Otherwise, except for those who already own all of these games (I own most, but had a few solid choices), I think that we got a reasonably good set of rewards.

I'd like to know if this is a glimpse of things to come. Will all physical rewards be phased out and replaced with just digital games left as rewards? I always save up my points and wait for physical gifts, but if this is going to be the case, I'll start spending my coins.

Wow, got DKR3D!

I own the cartridge, but I can swap it in now and have a little bit of store credit to buy other crap with!
i traded this in and got $19.20 at gamestop today with PUR pro (10% less if not), best buy base is $10. i'd trade it in asap though as Best Buy is running their b1g1 free 3ds game promo starting sunday and I'm sure all 3ds game values will slightly drop

Heads up to anyone who picks Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D, the download is 17668 blocks.
1gb = 8,192 blocks. A bit over 2gb for DKCR3D, for those of us that think arbitrary units should have died with the PS1.

I wonder, would anyone have been less than super-happy if Phoenix Wright: Dual Destinies was on the list?

I own a 3DS and 35 retail games, but not DKCR3D, a winner is me!

No, the CN DL voucher codes do not expire, at least that was stated on Nintendo's official forums. Now I'm sure someday with the pending apocalypse the code will no longer be valid (y'know, end of humanity and whatnot), but a year from now should be fine.

Maybe...

I'll try to word it a different way, but I feel like you are being inflammatory just to get a reaction, or being purposefully ignorant. Maybe I'm wrong.

What I mean is, the whole of point of Club Nintendo surveys is to give feedback, right? So, when we email Nintendo with feedback on their rewards, is that somehow wrong or whining? Also, you haven't read the emails people have been sending to them, so how would you know if what anyone is saying to them is "whining"? There are a lot of people who are unhappy with what they are offering for a variety of reasons, why would you have them be silent? Is your opinion that they should just shut up and take it worth more than those of all the people who disagree with you?

Wasnt sure what to grab initially but I almost bought Nes Remix a few weeks ago so I decided on that. Considered some of the other titles but had never actually thought about buying any of them except Earthbound so this seemed the way to go

For what its worth, I outright called Nintendo and the rep told me they're always welcome to receiving feedback and I was encouraged to share my opinion to make CN better. I realize a fair amount of this is fluff nonsense, but still interesting she felt the need to add those things.

This is what I'm worried about.

If that's the case I'll just grab that Animal Crossing pouch for the wife and go ahead and get the patch set as well. But I also dont want to do that and then them offer something like the Luigi statue or Kirby Medal. Suppose I can hold out for another week or two and see what happens.

I mean, I don't care so much about digital only rewards if they would actually start offering retail games and newer downloadable titles instead of the same old VC titles and the occasional $5 DSiWare game.

I went ahead and got G&W;  I'm sure someone in this house will play it.   This should put me at over $20 in eShop credits, so I might finally jump on Earthbound too.

I'm waiting even more so now between being a CN gift and that EU has a sale on it this week.

Wow.. I was pretty upset at first, but I didn't realize there were some full-retail games on there. I'll grab DKCR3D since I don't have a Wii U.

Still would rather have a physical reward. This is only the second time I've hit platinum, first since the Mario hat. I guess this is better than the two calendars I got from when I was gold a few times though..

Picked up DKCR.

First impressions of the prizes... I was extremely underwhelmed at first.

I always thought it was cool to have some sort of exclusive item for being Gold/Platinum status, something that was unobtainable through any other means.

But given that one of the prizes this year is a $30 item that I was actually interested in obtaining and add to the fact that $30 is probably more than any physical prize they would be handing out... I'm coming around to it.

It still is a bummer not to get an exclusive physical prize but replacing that with an expensive digital game helps a lot.

Also kind of cool that the prizes this year will give you points towards elite status next year.

Yeah, I certainly like that they added full games rather than just VC stuff... I just wish that they were better full games. Still, I'd take most of this year's Platinum stuff over the Majora's Mask soundtrack.

i traded this in and got $19.20 at gamestop today with PUR pro (10% less if not), best buy base is $10. i'd trade it in asap though as Best Buy is running their b1g1 free 3ds game promo starting sunday and I'm sure all 3ds game values will slightly drop
Thank you sir. I will be trading it in tomorrow.

I hear that...I feel like nintendo could care less about their US customers.
I've said it before but JP is Nintendo's mom so they'll always get nice things, EU is Nintendo's hot mistress so they get exciting things, NA is Nintendo's old wife that's been with since the beginning so we're just lucky to get anything.

You say that like Club Nintendo is the only thing that gets Japan-exclusive cool stuff. Every single game company has awesome Japan-exclusive stuff. Every anime company has Japan-exclusive cool stuff. Hell, they even have Japan-exclusive stuff of Western cartoons and live-action shows!

It's just the way of the world.

I know, I know. :p
The fact that the US doesn't get as good rewards hasn't bothered me much until today (you know, excluding that gold LOZ twilight princess statue NOE got).

I'm very disappointed with the rewards this year. First being no physical reward (heck, I would had like that cute Yoshi plush that Japan got) and second I owned 10 out of the 16 games offered (including DKCR3D and G&W). Nintendo needs to step up next year.
