[customspoiler=Basic FAQ]
-Basic Info/Overview
For those that don't know Club Nintendo is Nintendo's loyalty program of sorts. When you buy a Nintendo Console/Handheld, or a Nintendo published game, you get a pin that you can enter online to earn points. These points can then be redeemed for games, accesories, and collectable items. If you earn enough points in a Club year (300 for gold and 600 for platinum, which each have their own reward), you also receive a free bonus only available to a select few. You can read the full list of eligible titles, as well as their point value, here.

-How do I get coins for digital purchases?
In order to earn coins on any digital games you purchase on Wii/WiiU/3DS/DSi, you will first need to link you Club Nintendo account to your system. Instruction for doing so can be found here.

-Can I play the Wii games on my Wii-U?
Yes, but as of now, only in Wii mode. Native Wii U support might be added later on, but will most likely require the typical $1-$1.50 fee to transfer over.

-How do I play Wii games on Wii U
You will need to enter Wii mode on your Wii U. Instructions on doing so can be found http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/wiiu/en_na/features_wii_menu.jsp?menu=wii_shop&submenu=wup-wiishop-ht-redeem-code"]here[/url].

- If I don't spend coins for the entire year long period, do they carry over?
Yes, you can keep your coins past the Club Nintendo year they are redeemed in. However they only count toward gold or platinum status for the Nintendo year (june 31st-july 1st) they are redeemed in. After two years old points do expire, so make sure to spend them before then. You can check Coin balance information while, logged in, at the top of the page.

- Is there a list of previous rewards for people who accumulated a lot of coins? Similar to Square Enix's Ultimate Tier?
The extra rewards for Club Nintendo are for those that accumulate enough points to hit Gold or Platinum status (300 and 600 points, respectively). If you reach the required number of points in a year, Nintendo will automatically send you your reward, with no cost to you or your points.

- Does the list of eligible games update as the games come out or on some sort of schedule?
The list will be updated before the game comes out, do to things like Pre-Purchase bonus points. Any game you can buy, should already be on the list and able to redeem.

- When do they typically announce the prizes for Gold and Platinum?
Generally at the end of a Club Nintendo year, but don't expect it anytime soon. Usually it will take at least several months for them to ship it out.

- Is there anyway to enter multiple copies of the same game or device?
They have an option in the settings to make your account a family account, which means it can have sub-accounts that allows you to register multiple copies of games. The coins from all the sub-accounts all end up in the same main account coin collection.

- How does the site show what balance of coins you have to spend versus your total towards Gold/Platinum?
At the top right of the screen you can see the coin counter. The big number is your total coin amount, and the bar underneath is your progress to gold or platinum status. The number needed to advance is displayed directly above said bar. Redeeming your coins does not affect this counter, as it is only reset at the end of the year.

- How can I tell if a code is valid without redeeming it?
If you want to check if a code has already been registered, without registering it yourself, all you need to do is try entering the code while you are logged out. It will tell you the name of the game, as well as how many points it is worth, without activating it.[/customspoiler]

So Nintendo finally announced NES Remix pack for NA and further devalued this years elite rewards. I guess that makes my choice either Dr. Luigi or Earthbound, assuming they actually giving me my DDP. ~_~;;

So now I get to be tempted to double-dip on a retail copy? Great.

Who are you kidding, we already know you're going to buy it. I mean, who can say no to this box art?!

Nes_remix_1%2B2_boxart_japan.png

Except you know our box art won't be half as good looking because it's not Famicom here and we only like box art with emo dudes holding guns.
I would have went with the angry kirby reference, but to each their own.

I'm happy I put off buying either one now. Rather have the physical over digital
I'm too, but I still think it's another slap in the face to elite reward members and completely screws over my plans.

I may still go digital for Remix just because I'm more likely to play it if it's ready to fire up on the console.  And well, 1 would be free and 2 would be bought using my discounted e-shop money.

The more I think about this, the more upset I am at Nintendo. This should have been announced before the prizes. Already I felt like we were getting a bad deal by them offering retail games which most of us already had, but I intentionally avoided even the couple I didn't have because I still prefer physical over digital. And I don't want to fill up my small 32GB of memory with games I can get physical releases of !! So I pick a game I figure will only be digital (Didn't they say that at one point?!), and now they do this. I would have chosen Dr. Luigi since there is absolutely nothing special about Famicom Remix... AND I have wasted my precious internal memory. Just for that, I'm buying physical PS3 One Piece Red instead of doing the exclusive digital WiiU version. I need to see what else I can do to voice my displeasure.

You've already been through so much, why punish yourself some more by possibly paying MSRP for that One Piece game!? Anyway, I knew Japan was getting NES Remix collection for a while and figured Nintendo didn't see the point in releasing it physically in the US. In either case, they really should have made people aware sooner or held off announcing it.

Well I was debating NES Remix/Earthbound but now I might just get Game and Wario for the DDP points.

Works out really nicely since I traded in my copy for $28 during the crazy TIV days of the Target Triple Trade-in.

Hah - I thought about getting NES Remix. Now I'm really glad I got Game & Wario at least. Now if I would only just play it some day. Of course, the same goes for Wii U Party, NSMB (played it the first few weeks the Wii U came out but not since), and Zelda Wind Waker. I have all these "new" digital games and still don't feel compelled to turn on my Wii U other than to download more of them...

I do have the opportunity to get another platinum reward (via a friend who doesn't want it). I was actually going to go with NES Remix. Now I guess I'll get DKCR. But then we run into the stupid system-locking issue. Do I get it for my 3DS (and possibly never even play it), or do I get it for my son's 3DS (and possibly he never plays it since he seems to be on the iPad more than his 3DS these days)? If only it could go on all our 3DS's like all our iOS stuff goes on all our Apple systems, I'd have gotten that as my first choice.

Well this news both makes me happy & bummed out at the same time...Very glad I'm waiting until the last minute to cash in on my silly digital prize I don't want.
Choice is definitely game and wario to sell & make some chump change to buy the game physically some day.

It would be pretty cool to see a post apocalyptic landscape with skyscrapers knocked in half, rubble all over the place, Mario's back is turned to us as he walks towards the black sun setting on the red sky horizon and he effortlessly carries a huge mallet with one arm slung over his back with the text "Wrecking Crew".

That's funny because I did the opposite. I sold my physical copy of Game & Wario for about $25 when I picked the platinum prize.

Worst rewards this year. I hate digital games -.-

Waste of hard drive space.
I picked up NES remix before hearing that they were going to release a physical version.

...still I don't even want any games that have physical renditions on my HDD. So yea... I'll just delete NES Remix when it comes out on disc. For now, I guess I'll play it for a bit.

Would have preferred a soundtrack for Ocarina of Time to go with my Majora's Mask.

When can we get some more gold nunchaku ><

I rather have the digital items to the OoT OST. I can accept Nintendo phoning it in, but I rather not see them repeat prizes (even if the OST wasn't an elite reward).

They did an OoT OST before?

Anyway, that was just an example. I want something physical as a reward. There's a billion things that I'd prefer to digital codes.

They did. It was given to people who registered OoT during the first week (I believe) it released. This is also why so many people were irked at Majora's Mask being a platinum reward. It's hard to see an item go from a GWP tier thing to a spend $600~ and fill out 20~ survey thing.

Last year and vic had a year spent of frustration trying to get his damaged one replaced.
That was Majora's Mask.

Maybe I am alone, but I am fine with the rewards being digital only this year. Than again, I prefer digital over physical.

That being said, the selection could have been better.

Either way, I just wish I had reached Platinum status to take advantage of the Platinum rewards. As things stood, seeing how I had most of the Gold games, I went with Wario Land 2 for my reward, and bought DKCR code from eBay.

For me it depends. On my Vita I'm going 100% digital. On my 3DS, it mostly depends on how likely I am to want to jump into a game, play a little, and then stop; and also how much replay value it'll have. Good examples of games that I'd want digitally are AC, Pokemon X/Y, Mario Kart 7, and Mario Golf; whereas games that it makes more sense (to me) to just own physically would be Kirby Triple Deluxe, DKCR 3D, SM3L, etc. The main reason i differentiate on the 3DS is the fact that the 3DS isn't as safe to own digital games on, so I"m choosey about which I'll buy digitally.

As far as the digital rewards for elite status went this year, I had a friend who had a copy DKCR 3D that he had just scored off of Craigslist (got 4 games and a like-new 3DS XL for $150), so I offered him the digital code for his physical copy, which he was happy to do. Otherwise I'd have gotten NES Remix and given it to a friend of mine who has a Wii U.

That's totally understandable. For me, I just rather not have the clutter of physical goods anymore (on any system), so I am going with the assumption I should be "okay" as long as I register my games with Club Nintendo, and backup my SD card in the event of a system failure (that being said, I completely agree purchases should be linked to the account, not the system, but I digress).

Plus, Nintendo systems tend to be rather reliable (never had one break, personally), so it's not something I really worth about it.

The problem with this and most of the rewards is that they tend to appeal to some sort of demographic and everyone else finds them stupid.

For me, I know Nintendo rarely does sales (and I'm not always willing to wait for 2 games I want to release just to save $10 - $20 dollars) and even less so digitally, so I tend to make all my purchases upfront. This is a system that works maybe 7/10 times (I had to lower it over the MK 8 promo) and also results in me basically considering everything offered for this years elite rewards. Since I already decided they (minus DK) weren't worth my money, selecting one is like less of a prize and more of a "which one offers the best value?" To make matters worse and as I've noted many times, there is a huge price disparity between gold tier prizes ($1) and platinum tier prizes ($15), so the best "choice" might simply be Game and Wario for the coins, simply because that's probably the best value for me and in some ways thats sad.

Not saying physical prizes are any better, as last year I felt underwhelmed by the OST and posters, but at least those were exclusive items and gave me something special / unique for my time instead of a product that I simply opted out of buying. Especially since Nintendo seems hellbent on lowering the value, like announcing NES Remix collection for NA.

I had no issue with the Club Nintendo rewards personally. Maybe it's because this was my first year that I've actually gotten to a gold/platinum status. I've never gotten a free reward from them in the past. I'm quite content with DKCR on my 3DS. Haven't gotten around to playing it yet, but totally cool with that game for free.

I don't have many digital games so if anyone is unhappy with their digital game, feel free to send your code this way lol

i thought the rewards sucked so i pick nes remix the only game worth it then they announce the physical version for NA nintendo make me less and less a fan each day

You know, I would be 100% ok with downloadable prizes if they were EXCLUSIVE ! Remember Doc's DLC for Punch Out? That was an awesome reward... small, but exclusive. I guess Nintendo is too lazy to do more DLC, but that would fix most of the whining. Even if it's just a variation, make it feel special. A couple of special DLC that remain exclusive and one physical reward option, and Club Nintendo could be great. I don't think that's asking for much.

I had mentioned last year that Nintendo could have made exlusive DLC for Platinum members, like an all-gold skin/color swap for the characters in Smash 4 (that did NOT affect the character's attributes otherwise), or an exclusive rainbow paintjob for your kart in MK8. It would be a way of showing off your Platinum status without changing the gameplay. I remember people paying for the gold lancer preorder bonus in Gears and other silly cosmetic changes over the past generation of games.

I'm not saying this should be the only reward, it would just be something nice and (I believe) relatively inexpensive for Nintendo to deliver for their most loyal fans, perhaps in addition to their digital rewards or physical goods.

I don't think going off what idiots on eBay pay for things is a good indicator of its actual value. Like I recall some people paying $10+ for the KH dynamic theme, $100+ for the CoD Zombie map pack (I had problems unloading it for $15 on CAG), $50+ for MK costumes or that Arrow Skin and while some people might be okay paying that, I don't think any sizable portion would be excited to get unique DLC. Especially if it was 1 item that was tied to one game, since that would probably lead to complaints of Nintendo turning "rewards" into extremely conditional items.

Like a special racer in MK or costume in SSB would require you to invest in a game (most will anyway, but just go with it) just to get any sort of value from the reward.

well, perhaps for your Mii then. That would make me less satisfied, but would fix your valid point.
Well, I wouldn't say that Nintendo has a developed enough system like say Xbox Live for such an item to work. Also I doubt Nintendo coded the Mii system in such a way where they could implement such things. However! If it worked with Mii's in game (like SSB or MK 8) I could easily see it going over better than the aforementioned thing.

Not trying to be snarky, but I'm pretty sure that's the definition of value, correct? Whatever people are willing to pay for it at the time determines it's momentary value. Will it hold that value over time? Doubtful. In any case, I would have no desire to sell the fictional DLC I described above if I were to have it. I would want it to show off my Platinum status.

I think some of the frustration over the rewards are due to the lack of exclusivity; any shmoe with $15 e-credit can have one of the digital titles offered this year. Many Platinum members wanted something limited to a certain select few, like the previous physical goods. Nintendo's obviously cutting the cost of ClubN, so they could have given us some Platinum-limited (and inexpensive) DLC for their biggest online multiplayer games to satiate our desire for exclusivity while in addition offering a selection of downloadable titles that would feel like a more valuable, practical reward.

I know I would LOVE to be the only player in an online match with a Platinum-exclusive livery or palette-swap. As a Platinum member, I'm fairly likely to have their biggest games like MK8 and Smash4, and even if I didn't it would be a small encouragement to get the game to make use of the DLC, which is good for Nintendo's bottom line. In addition, it might raise ClubN's profile among more casual players (some of whom seem to be oblivious that it exists) and also inspire players to reach Plat status. Just a thought.

Regardless, if implimented, I don't think exclusive DLC of the nature I described in my last post should be the only reward. Just a little something extra that Nintendo could provide to us Platinum members so we can gloat.

That type of elitism has no place in video games.

Club Nintendo work fine for me. They have game I want I get it. Kirby. Kid Icarus. Wario Land. If you don't like the programs just give me the codes and I'll use them.

It is, but eBay also gets murky with DLC codes and things of this nature, so I suggesting that just because some of those codes sell for absurd* amounts, doesn't mean that a sizable portion of the community is willing to pay that much or that the seller is even making said money (its easy to spend $100 when your plan is to claim the code doesn't work upon getting it to get a refund).

I think you're right and at the same time wrong. I think many people view Club Nintendo as a program to get exclusive rewards, so naturally getting things you could have bought isn't desirable. However, I would say a fair amount of frustration comes from the fact people want physical items instead of digital items. You can look at people like myself, Conan and it's pretty clear that some people don't care for digital items in general.

See, your note about it encouraging people to get the game is the problem with your idea. While I can't speak for everyone, I don't want to spend some sum of money and fill out 20+ surveys just to get an item a year later that requires me to spend up to $60 to use and it's use restricts what I can do in game. Like I could dislike the elite reward costume, but I am basically forced to use it or the item goes to waste / holds no actual value. This is also starting to be a serious issue with some peoples suggestions. Instead of offering something that appeal to a wider group, people are making things increasingly niche. Like a physical reward doesn't have many restrictions, where as a game requires a 3DS / Wii U and internet and now DLC that requires the aforementioned systems, internet and a specific game.

* Someone "actually sold" their gold elite reward for more than the actual price of any of the prizes.

I totally get that, and I share your frustration. I would have MUCH preferred a nice statuette or limited soundtrack to the digital rewards they offered this year. However, I'm trying to envision a scenario that would satisfy a Platinum member's desire for an exclusive reward while also working with Nintendo's limited budget. I think the lukewarm acceptance of the WiiU in North America (and the marked increase in the cost of shipping goods) has caused ClubN US to slash their budget for Platinum rewards. Physical goods like the Mario statue and pins are likely a thing of the past unless there is a dramatic change in sales. My DLC described above would be an inexpensive bonus for those of us who have the games and reached platinum, but this scenario would only be viable if offered in conjunction with a more practical but mundane reward, like the selection of digital titles.

I also want to point out that I would have bought all these games regardless of Club Nintendo. I don't buy them because I want to reach platinum; I buy them because Nintendo is arguably the greatest developer in gaming, that they consistently produce fantastic games and unique experiences, and that I got the games at a nice bargain due to the hard work and dilligence of the good people here at CAG. Platinum rewards are icing on the cake for me.

And all that is the reason they should offer both digital AND physical options. I would have sucked it up and got a calendar this year if it were an option.

Anybody else still not sure what to do for/with their reward? It's just... bullcrap.

club nintendo should reward its loyal fans that not only buy a lot of there games but buy them NEW with cool exclusive rewards i think this reward is bull shit reaching platinum for the fourth year and i get a wii game port vc games which i already have and the best eshop game which i choose than gets announced for a physical version which i want. rant aside this sucks

Nintendo gives away so many games, I can't imagine ever complaining about what they're giving away now. almost everything I own digitally was given away by N in some manner.
