[customspoiler=Basic FAQ]
-Basic Info/Overview
For those that don't know Club Nintendo is Nintendo's loyalty program of sorts. When you buy a Nintendo Console/Handheld, or a Nintendo published game, you get a pin that you can enter online to earn points. These points can then be redeemed for games, accesories, and collectable items. If you earn enough points in a Club year (300 for gold and 600 for platinum, which each have their own reward), you also receive a free bonus only available to a select few. You can read the full list of eligible titles, as well as their point value, here.

-How do I get coins for digital purchases?
In order to earn coins on any digital games you purchase on Wii/WiiU/3DS/DSi, you will first need to link you Club Nintendo account to your system. Instruction for doing so can be found here.

-Can I play the Wii games on my Wii-U?
Yes, but as of now, only in Wii mode. Native Wii U support might be added later on, but will most likely require the typical $1-$1.50 fee to transfer over.

-How do I play Wii games on Wii U
You will need to enter Wii mode on your Wii U. Instructions on doing so can be found http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/wiiu/en_na/features_wii_menu.jsp?menu=wii_shop&submenu=wup-wiishop-ht-redeem-code"]here[/url].

- If I don't spend coins for the entire year long period, do they carry over?
Yes, you can keep your coins past the Club Nintendo year they are redeemed in. However they only count toward gold or platinum status for the Nintendo year (june 31st-july 1st) they are redeemed in. After two years old points do expire, so make sure to spend them before then. You can check Coin balance information while, logged in, at the top of the page.

- Is there a list of previous rewards for people who accumulated a lot of coins? Similar to Square Enix's Ultimate Tier?
The extra rewards for Club Nintendo are for those that accumulate enough points to hit Gold or Platinum status (300 and 600 points, respectively). If you reach the required number of points in a year, Nintendo will automatically send you your reward, with no cost to you or your points.

- Does the list of eligible games update as the games come out or on some sort of schedule?
The list will be updated before the game comes out, do to things like Pre-Purchase bonus points. Any game you can buy, should already be on the list and able to redeem.

- When do they typically announce the prizes for Gold and Platinum?
Generally at the end of a Club Nintendo year, but don't expect it anytime soon. Usually it will take at least several months for them to ship it out.

- Is there anyway to enter multiple copies of the same game or device?
They have an option in the settings to make your account a family account, which means it can have sub-accounts that allows you to register multiple copies of games. The coins from all the sub-accounts all end up in the same main account coin collection.

- How does the site show what balance of coins you have to spend versus your total towards Gold/Platinum?
At the top right of the screen you can see the coin counter. The big number is your total coin amount, and the bar underneath is your progress to gold or platinum status. The number needed to advance is displayed directly above said bar. Redeeming your coins does not affect this counter, as it is only reset at the end of the year.

- How can I tell if a code is valid without redeeming it?
If you want to check if a code has already been registered, without registering it yourself, all you need to do is try entering the code while you are logged out. It will tell you the name of the game, as well as how many points it is worth, without activating it.[/customspoiler]

Nintendo gives away so many games, I can't imagine ever complaining about what they're giving away now. almost everything I own digitally was given away by N in some manner.
Yeah, I've amassed quite a collection of games that way. Super Metroid, Super Mario World, New Super Mario U, Pikmin 3, Earthbound, Guacamelee... those were all compliments of Nintendo. That's why I've got no beef with Nintendo's loyalty programs... they're a great way to beef up your collection.

By contrast, Microsoft and Sony are really tight-fisted with their own giveaways. You've got to buy a hundred dollars' worth of Sony products to get a dollar back from Sony Rewards, and it took forever for me to get anything from Microsoft's reward program. So don't complain... things could be a lot worse.

Gotta love when people ignore every argument presented and keep responding with "it's free" or "stop whining."

I stopped explaining myself a while back, because that's the only response I ever got.

Have an unused NES Remix Code and looking to trade it for an unused Dr. Luigi one - as I will be picking up the physical version of NES Remix

Didn't read all of this, but it is free given the right context. The purpose is to reward you with additional prizes for buying games you would have bought anyway, making the games your primary focus and the rewards simply further incentive. In this respect, the prizes become free. If buying games you don't want to get Coins for Club Nintendo is your primary focus, then whatever you get isn't free. And that's also pretty stupid. Furthermore, if you work at a used video game store (GameStop, for example) and are forced to gut games, you are allowed to keep the CN codes; this example allows for free rewards as well, albeit objectively free as no purchase was required whatsoever.

And you also have to consider that most of these people complaining feel entitled to something better than digital content, given how many amazing physical rewards Club Nintendo Japan/Europe get. Japanese CN members get limited edition 3DS consoles, among other things.

1) Wrong forum

2) I'll save you the time and tell you virtually no one on this site will make that trade. Not only do you have no trade rep and a mere 34 (33 excluding that one) posts, you're basically asking someone to risk their platinum reward by trusting you (so you would 100% have to go first) and that person would have to want to get NES Remix, plus be willing to jump through some hoops just to help you out.

Why does everyone leave out the surveys? It's not like DDP, Xbox Rewards or PlayStation Rewards where you buy things under set conditions and you get your points. The points awarded on the assumption you bought the game you're redeeming and then under the condition you fill out their market research questioner. Sure most people don't try or give terrible answers. Heck, sometimes I roll my eyes filling them out because there isn't any deep reason why I buy something. Most times it's stuff like "it was on sale" or "I love platinum games," which are valid answers, but we still have to fill them out all the same.

Anyway, this is or at least was the main reason why people don't consider CN free.

SN Europe also got the LE 3DS consoles and Japan seems to have year round register a 3DS and get a game promos.

Jesus Christ, are you guys still whining about the rewards?
It's fascinating really. Just last night I had the same thought as you and wondered what the point of this is.

Here is my novel about why this is bullshit.

Counterpoint.

Discussion about this is free.

Novel about why this isn't free.

Repeat.

So it's free, as long as you ignore the fact that it isn't free.

If your time is worthless, then yes it is free. I do value my time, so no, it's not free in my eyes.

Don't get me wrong, it's worth filling out a couple surveys for free games from MK8. And in that regard, the Platinum prize this year was also worth my time, even if they were disappointing.

But it is absolutely not worth my effort for dollar store crap like folders, notebooks, or *shudder* NIntendogs post cards. I really don't think it's worth my time to fill out a ton of these things just for an overpriced VC game either, especially without crossplay.

Compare CN to the Nintendo DDDP. One is "free" but takes a lengthy time investment, the other really is a free bonus in pretty much every sense.

DDDP is still a pain in my ass..... SO MANY $5 codes to redeem, 1 at a time.....

I always love the irony of people explain that the surveys are not worth their time, but think posting that the surveys are not worth said time is somehow better.

Joking aside (especially since I am probably the last person on the site that should call people out for that), I would say DDP is closer to free, but still not quite there. To qualify for DDP you have to buy a DX console, which makes it closer to a program where you're paying to get a discount like @Gamer. However, I don't think anyone wants to get into the semantics of this stuff.

Saying it isn't free because you have to fill out a 2-3 minute survey is being pedantic.
More like 2 - 3 surveys at "2 - 3 minutes" a piece, but I suppose we should overlook everything and just agree that Club Nintendo is free and be complacent with everything because giving a negative opinion is immature, petty and thinking different than you makes one "entitled," right?

Not sure what the hate is all about? Nintendo gives you free games/prizes for buying their titles all the time. The world is moving digital. I love my Platinum statue, my posters, my Majora's mask cd and even the Mario related pins they gave out. I don't mind more games though. My backlog will shed more tears knowing it's not a physical gift.

No idea what I am getting either. All the Platinum titles minus Game & Wario I do not own. Been wanting to get DKC3DS, also very interested in Earthbound, NES Remix and Dr. Luigi.  Tough one for me.

I mean, no, that's not really what anyone is saying. The argument isn't so much the fact that you are trading your time (which is a valid argument, by the way), its a misunderstanding of the market of additional advertisement and data collection.

Do you think Club Nintendo hasn't increased revenue for Nintendo? If you believe it hasn't, you're wrong. And if you believe that their market research division hasn't profited in vastly disproportionate levels in comparison to its expenditures with rewards (some would say, good business), then you are also wrong.

Many Nintendo fans don't even mind investing in the company in this way. They just want something that at least remotely suggests the company they support also supports them. Reiterating over and over again "O ITS FREE SHUT UP" is neither helpful, nor even remotely accurate.

The biggest issue with Club Nintendo is that there are a lot of perception based problems, which lead to several different and in most cases completely acceptable ideologies related to the program. This is different than say Reward Zone credit, as the program is totally and completely mapped out and defined from the start causing there to be no idealogical differences. Like you go in knowing that 1 point = 1 dollar and every 250 points gives you $5 dollars back in cash. Theres nothing to really complain about, since all the rules are given to you upfront and there isn't any reason to dislike the reward, since cash has a universal appeal not found with finite items.

Club Nintendo doesn't work this way, which is where the problems start to arise. For one thing, to get value out of my time / coins, Nintendo has to offer me something I want. While some people might be picky and others more open, I don't think many would disagree with the notion that Nintendo does a poor job of catering to a wide demographic of people. Even some prizes like the Yoshi shirt didn't come in a medium or XL size and naturally anyone in the XL+ range would have no use for it and some people in the medium range might not care for a tight or large shirt. Nintendo also doesn't offer that many new things in a calendar year, so it isn't uncommon for people to redeem nothing over the course of two years (agree or disagree with this claim, every year a bunch of items mysteriously go out of stock right before the coins expire). Needless to say, people who find items to buy see the value in the program, where as people with 1,000+ coins with nothing to buy don't see the value in the program.

Anyway, as CN moves towards digital, it goes from being whatever you want to call it program, to a really weak and convoluted cash back program. Like you need to buy approximately 4 Wii U games and fill out 8+ surveys just to earn the points rewarded to buy a game worth up to $10 (this looks really bad when you factor in the DDP gives $5 per $50 spent on the shop, so 2 games would give you the same $10 to use on anything). This years rewards are also held back by many of the most loyal already having the items (decreased value), vastly different values (why offer games worth $10 - $30?), bad business choices (announcing NES Remix for NA after offering it as a reward here) and things of the like. But again, it's the ideological differences from how many concepts are being applied that is a problem. It's precisely why cash back programs like Sony Rewards / Xbox Live Rewards / Reward Zone don't have the same debates about whether or not it's free and why they typically have a positive air around them.

I mean, no, that's not really what anyone is saying. The argument isn't so much the fact that you are trading your time (which is a valid argument, by the way), its a misunderstanding of the market of additional advertisement and data collection.

Many Nintendo fans don't even mind investing in the company in this way. They just want something that at least remotely suggests the company they support also supports them. Reiterating over and over again "O ITS FREE SHUT UP" is neither helpful, nor even remotely accurate.
Yup.

well...if you're still mad at nintendo I know the perfect way to get back at them! Just give me your reward. I don't have a wii-u. The only 3DS game I have on the list is Donkey Kong Country Returns 3ds...so stick it to the man! I'll gladly take any other 3ds game on that list lol

Just found out about the games for this years rewards. Even though the rewards were kinda lame, I enjoyed getting an item that was exclusive to the site. It made me happy knowing other people couldn't just walk into a store and buy it.

As far as the rewards go, next time you fill out surveys, don't fill in anything else but " no physical games as rewards or i'll stop buying games" or something. Thats what I intend to do.

Not a bad idea. Withhold the marketing data by telling them what you're doing, and still taking the coins. For the Donkey Kong Country Returns survey, all the questions such as "Why did you buy this game?" and "What are you looking forward to the most?" I just answered very negatively. "I didn't want this game. I have no interest on it. I just figured if I had to get a digital game, I may as well get the most expensive one to buy."

walk in to a store yet and buy it you mean? lol cause nes remix was exclusive to the site and is now getting a physical release so it possible others could follow in it footstep

So I get an e-mail saying my platinum rewards are ready and I have to redeem them before August 15, but every time I try to get on, I get that Club Nintendo is undergoing maintenance.

I have scanned the last 3 or so pages but couldn't wade through all the "Club Nintendo sucks!" commentary to actually figure out what the rewards are. Someone did list Canadian prices for a list of games, and people were angry about not getting physical rewards.

Was that Canadian list the exhaustive list of rewards?

hate the digital only rewards too. Total cop-out this year by them & a lack of creativity here by Nintendo. Oh well, guess it's DKC for me then.

That's part of the problem, I think. There's really nothing you can do with the Gold rewards if you already have the games or don't want them. I haven't redeemed my code at all either, but can't even get someone interested in any game at any price.

I have some XBLA games if you're interested in a 1-for-1 trade?

I work with wood and leather as a hobby. You can't just walk into a store and buy one of my custom bookshelves, spice rack, or one of my belts. That doesn't make them valuable.

Then again I don't have thousands of fanboys frothing at the mouth to pay $60 for my lazy halfassed crap like Toad's Treasure Hunt or Mario Sports Mix......

On a different topic, anyone else feel like Nintendo's CS is painfully dated? Last year I had to go to hell and back to get my platinum reward replaced and this year I seem to have the same problem getting my potentially missing Digital DX points. It's almost to the point where I just get Game & Wario to get it over with.

Club Nintendo is going to a maintenance page for me...please give me something so spend my coins on Nintendo!  I don't want to get too excited though, it's probably nothing.

You have no idea. My friend recently bought one of their refurbished Wii Us, it took him a month and 9 phone calls to finally get a completely working unit. His Wii U didn't work, so they had him send it in. They then sent him just a Gamepad. They then sent him an empty box after assuring him twice that it had a Wii U in it. They then couldn't get anyone to open a box to get him a new Wii U system, so they sent him a new refurbished kit. After all that, he found out the Wii Mote plus that came with it wasn't working. After all that trouble, He now has a Wii U, two gamepads, one broken and one working wiimote, two sets of cables a copy of Nintendoland and a copy of SM3DW. All for $200 and a month worth of shit.

Thats not too terrible, since your friend sort of came ahead in the long run, but still way more than anyone should have to deal with. When I got my OST for Zelda replaced I was originally told they would just send me a new one. 1 month later I was told they were waiting for me to send it back and they would contact me in 2 business days with more details. Two business days later I talked to someone at Nintendo and they were just like send it back or deal with it, so I asked where to send it / if shipping would be covered (it was not -.-) and then I sent it to where they wanted with a letter explaining the issue like they said to write. Two weeks later I contacted Nintendo asking wtf was going on and they told me I sent it to the wrong place and thats why an issue had occurred. The guy finally did something and I got my OST a week or so later.

Anyway, this digital one is proving to be more annoying because of how simple it is! I called on the day when elite rewards were announced and explained that I never got points for Pokemon Rumble U. 30 minutes of explaining that I had waited a day and I didn't want CN coins I got them to issue it and they said they would contact me in 2 business days with a solution. Two business days later I called and another 30 minutes of explanations got me back to "they will look into it" and it would be "5 to 7 business days." I then called again today to see what the progress was with the first complaint and she said that Nintendo had JUST TODAY got my issue over to the people that could solve it and they would most likely have an answer by August 1. Yes people, it took nearly 14 days just for Nintendo to LOOK at my issue and up to 16 days to potentially resolve it. ~_~

Everyone is probably trying to redeem their MK8 game codes at the same time as people who are trying to redeem their platinum/gold codes.
Edit: the site is also working for me.

Site is up and down for me.  It was down, then I got on and redeemed a code and when I went to redeem the second code it went down again for a minute or so.

Earthbound, no question. Sold my physical copy of it & GC Zelda, plus the PS4 camera when they were OoS in February to purchase a Zelda Wii U with the free Zelda download & Earthbound as my first two digital purchases.

I fell off the Nintendo wagon this year, but managed to get Gold status before I traded in my 3DS and games. To that end:

Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins
