[customspoiler=Basic FAQ]
-Basic Info/Overview
For those that don't know Club Nintendo is Nintendo's loyalty program of sorts. When you buy a Nintendo Console/Handheld, or a Nintendo published game, you get a pin that you can enter online to earn points. These points can then be redeemed for games, accesories, and collectable items. If you earn enough points in a Club year (300 for gold and 600 for platinum, which each have their own reward), you also receive a free bonus only available to a select few. You can read the full list of eligible titles, as well as their point value, here.

-How do I get coins for digital purchases?
In order to earn coins on any digital games you purchase on Wii/WiiU/3DS/DSi, you will first need to link you Club Nintendo account to your system. Instruction for doing so can be found here.

-Can I play the Wii games on my Wii-U?
Yes, but as of now, only in Wii mode. Native Wii U support might be added later on, but will most likely require the typical $1-$1.50 fee to transfer over.

-How do I play Wii games on Wii U
You will need to enter Wii mode on your Wii U. Instructions on doing so can be found http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/wiiu/en_na/features_wii_menu.jsp?menu=wii_shop&submenu=wup-wiishop-ht-redeem-code"]here[/url].

- If I don't spend coins for the entire year long period, do they carry over?
Yes, you can keep your coins past the Club Nintendo year they are redeemed in. However they only count toward gold or platinum status for the Nintendo year (june 31st-july 1st) they are redeemed in. After two years old points do expire, so make sure to spend them before then. You can check Coin balance information while, logged in, at the top of the page.

- Is there a list of previous rewards for people who accumulated a lot of coins? Similar to Square Enix's Ultimate Tier?
The extra rewards for Club Nintendo are for those that accumulate enough points to hit Gold or Platinum status (300 and 600 points, respectively). If you reach the required number of points in a year, Nintendo will automatically send you your reward, with no cost to you or your points.

- Does the list of eligible games update as the games come out or on some sort of schedule?
The list will be updated before the game comes out, do to things like Pre-Purchase bonus points. Any game you can buy, should already be on the list and able to redeem.

- When do they typically announce the prizes for Gold and Platinum?
Generally at the end of a Club Nintendo year, but don't expect it anytime soon. Usually it will take at least several months for them to ship it out.

- Is there anyway to enter multiple copies of the same game or device?
They have an option in the settings to make your account a family account, which means it can have sub-accounts that allows you to register multiple copies of games. The coins from all the sub-accounts all end up in the same main account coin collection.

- How does the site show what balance of coins you have to spend versus your total towards Gold/Platinum?
At the top right of the screen you can see the coin counter. The big number is your total coin amount, and the bar underneath is your progress to gold or platinum status. The number needed to advance is displayed directly above said bar. Redeeming your coins does not affect this counter, as it is only reset at the end of the year.

- How can I tell if a code is valid without redeeming it?
If you want to check if a code has already been registered, without registering it yourself, all you need to do is try entering the code while you are logged out. It will tell you the name of the game, as well as how many points it is worth, without activating it.[/customspoiler]

Let me know if I missed anything or if something breaks!

Hey for the wii/wii U titles that requires the classic controller.  How do I play them on the Wii U? I know I need to be in the Wii mode but do I need the classic controller hooked up to the wiimote? Or is there an easier less expensive way?

Yeah it needs to be hooked up to the wiimote.

There are Gamecube adapters on wiimote for gamecube controllers.

Or just use the GC controllers and play them on the wii.

Pretty annoying though that you need the classic controller.

Nice change of pace by Ninty, I wonder if that means the physical rewards will continue their downward trend.
And just when I get to platinum two years in a row (Good God, getting platinum was super easy since I found a bunch of Wii and DS games at Gamestop and Goodwill whose CN codes weren't even plugged in). *sigh*

Still Starfox 64? I'm in for that.

this is just unacceptable by Nintendo. I honestly would get more N64 games, either by CN or buying them outright if I could either play them with the gamepad or Wii U pro controller.

Yeah the Wii U pro controller is nice.

The black original classic controllers actually went up in price though, almost double

so for me IDC lol

Well, looks like Vegas Stakes is already a Wii U title, so this should qualify for the upgrade program.  Makes little sense that Nintendo wouldn't have just made it a Wii U option...

Nice update! I'm in for Vegas Stakes, I think. This is the Wii U version, right? I know that it was released in as a Wii U VC game last year, but the way it is categorized as a Wii/Wii U game makes it seem that you have to play it in Wii Mode (like Starfox is currently listed).

You seem to forget that nintendo is a business....

with bad practices... lol
Damn you Nintendo. Looks like they're getting my coins and a buck fiddy out of me. I spent countless hours with Vegas Stakes when I was younger, so I have a soft spot for it.

Then again, I have a complete copy for the SNES sitting right here. But that requires hooking up the SNES, etc etc.

$1.50 will go down the drain

Someone should get the code and try to see if it works on the WIIU e-shop

we can only dream.

Nope. It looks like it's a Wii VC title, and you'll have to pay the 1.50 to upgrade it to Wii U VC if you don't want to use the old classic controller.

I know the Wii U Gamecube controller adapter is coming this holiday along with Smash Bros, but have they announced whether that would allow a Gamecube controller to work like a classic controller in all games?   According to Amazon Questions, it seems they might not have yet.

I'm looking at one of those Wiimote adapters now, but I might just wait for the official Wii U adapter since it supports 4 controllers and is a direct plug-in to the Wii U.

Don't get your hopes up, they haven't mention anything as far as I'm aware.

I really doubt it though. Would love to get rid of my classic controller.

Hmm, not quite the selection I was hoping for but I think I'm going to grab starfox 64 and Mario golf. Anybody want to sell one or both before I spend my coins?

Thanks for the update.Definitely weird (this is the first time they've done something like that, right?). I guess I can cough up $1.50.

I don't see how you guys can be mad at a free program. I mean, just because you have to buy the games, fill out the surveys and possibly now plan your life around Nintendo's whims at Club Nintendo, doesn't really matter because it's free.
I'm actually not even remotely mad. I genuinely like club Nintendo and the last few months have been really good for me getting multiple games from my wishlist for free.
I was just answering the question of having a registration survey expire sooner than expected. This month looks like 2 more games off my wishlist even though I'm picking up a gbc original copy of golf this week.

Since I still have my original Wii hooked up, I suppose I'll just keep my Wii VC games running on that then since I can just plug in a wavebird controller.

One of these days, Nintendo needs to get on the 'if you own it in your account, you can use it on all your platforms' train.  The one console only thing is just silly in the current market.

Seems like they're going to be pushing digital.

I personally don't mind.

Maybe if we had access to exclusive games it would make it a bit better.
Now I personally wonder about this... In some ways I wonder if it's the same logic that I suspect Target uses with their preorder promotions. Instead of looking at the actual details, they see a sudden influx of people preordering (if only to abuse the $15 off promotion) and then go "Wow, people must love this promotion! We should do it more often," which might be the case with Nintendo. Instead of looking at the ratio of physical items to digital items and ignoring how fast some of the physical items sold out, Nintendo simply sees a bunch of people buying digital items (because they're cheap and better than nothing) and assumes "this is what they want." Probably the same logic that went into the elite rewards. Wouldn't be surprised if this was the case, especially given how poor some of their services are. Like I am still in limbo waiting to see if my copy of Pokemon is eligible for DDP.

Well considering they are going negative in terms of overall sales, It just is cheaper to only offer digital games. It actually allows everyone to obtain the rewards as well. It gets rid of coins at a cheaper rate.

It will help them cut there losses a little as well. Personally I think thats one of the major reasons.

I can't find another reason. I would be happy if they offered a similar DDP for the 3DS.

The only thing that is ridiculous is if they really do push for digital, they better have a fucking account system.

I can imagine nintendo doing a program where if you spend 39.99 you get back $5 in e-shop if you register.

This will be good for nintendo in general I guess. Maybe it's just me. I would just like to see nintendo actually

succeeding at this point. Even if the cost is going digital for a while.

Can't believe Nintendo hasn't figured that out yet.

I'm torn between digital and physical: One hand says that games would not come out if it wasn't digital (think of the overhead it takes getting the discs, covers, and cases packed and shipped and all the logistics). The other hand asks what happens if the hard drive is wiped, the accounts hacked, and/or the company (or some governing body) goes rogue or under and decides to fubar your licences? And on top of that, you don't even have a frisbee to sell to someone!

So you know what, I may be in the minority to like both; I just want them to coexist about a 1:1 ratio as much as possible (I know it's a pipe dream but I am free to dream, I hope).

Ended up with Vegas Stakes (and used 1.50 eShop credit to upgrade) and Super Mario 2.  I love Excitebike, but just can't pull the trigger on it right now.

Hmm yeah, seems like this definitely adds to the thinking that they are turning Club Nintendo into downloadable rewards only. I kinda wish they'd just go ahead and stay it one way or another so I can spend some points instead of hoarding them for some rare physical reward that may never come around again.

I was joking. I even noted such by saying "seriously though" right after.

This will be good for nintendo in general I guess. Maybe it's just me. I would just like to see nintendo actually

succeeding at this point. Even if the cost is going digital for a while.
Don't get me wrong, I know there are other motivating factors, but I still wonder if that played a role in them going this direction. Especially since poor sales didn't affect Japan getting washi tape, the Yoshi plush and the neat Mario Kart 8 shirt (among not having a bunch of digital items) and the only digital items I see on the European site are cash cards, which I think everyone here would prefer to games, even if the cards were more money and NA has had a fair number of digital games for years now.

Hmm yeah, seems like this definitely adds to the thinking that they are turning Club Nintendo into downloadable rewards only. I kinda wish they'd just go ahead and stay it one way or another so I can spend some points instead of hoarding them for some rare physical reward that may never come around again.
I wonder if they'll get to a point where they'll offer you some of the AAA titles...Super Mario 3D World? Wonderful 101? Shoot, give us a free digital copy of Zelda Skyward Sword and a lot of people may actually be happy. Sorry, this beggar is really choosy.

Yeah, who knows. I actually like the digital items just for the fact that it means I will actually use them. I love physical items but usually when I get something rare, its never opened and half the time it just ends up getting sold years later. At least with digital games I can actually use them and play the games, plus get the extra DDP...they really need to make the DDP permanent. Now, I just wish they would come out and say its going digital only so I can spend my points lol.

Well if they do something like Microsoft or Sony with the free monthly game...the stuff we're getting right now will be the free stuff monthly while the coins in CN get used for AAA titles?

Well come to think of it, it could be counter-productive. Think of it: you probably need those same AAA titles to get to the amount of coins it takes to redeem them and get a game like Skyward Sword for free.

Ah, it's great being overthinking me.

I wish the Mario Golf game was the version of the game from the GBA.  I loved it.  The GBC one just looks a little too simplistic and dated for me.

I think pricing will be what prevents Nintendo from selling retail tier titles. If we were to assume 250 = $10 and Nintendo would maintain a fixed $1 = 25 coins ratio, then even a cheap game like The Wonderful 101 or Super Luigi U would be 750 coins. Even if Nintendo gave a bigger discount as cost went up, it would probably be too high for most at 600 coins. Like I don't love my coins, but I would be hard pressed spending even 900 coins for a Mario Kart 8 voucher.

I love Excitebike, but just can't pull the trigger on it right now.
Same here, have 3D Classic Excitebike and that's good enough for me. Was the 3D Classic* ever offered as a cn deal?

I'm seriously wanting Star Fox 64 though. Think ill try the trading section to pick that one up, 250 coins is too precioussez for me.

* I looked at NinjaSquirrelys sales history and 3D Classic Excitebike has in fact been on sale twice now. August of 2012 and May of 2013. Also with Kirby on sale in June that makes the 6th and final 3D Classic to finally go on sale. Another fun fact, Urban Champion was on sale on 3 different occasions.

I thought the 3D version was an ambassador exclusive?
