For those with Comcast Internet,

Do you rent a Comcast modem?
Can you buy a modem from Comcast? If so, any idea how much it is?
Would a modem from Best Buy work just as well?

Thanks for any help

Yes, Comcast allows you to rent them.

Yes, you can buy them. I bought my motorola cable modem from Best Buy for around $80 2 years ago. Dont know if you can buy one from comcast (I assume not) but it would probably be more expensive than just picking up one at Best Buy.

Either way is fine. If you buy it you will have to tell them and read off the modem serial number so it can be used on the network. (If you buy the modem it saves you a couple bucks a month rental fee.)

Computer stuff lasts on average about 3-5 years, so buying the modem for $80 is much cheaper in the long run.

There are deals all the time though where you can get Motorola boxes really cheap on the net. But if you need one now, yeah BB is a good alternative.

Check Walmart also. All the locations in STL sell them (Charter area but any Motorola Surfboard should work fine as long as it's a new one.)
