An excellent (and enormous!) hardcover book on the history of the comic strip, Comics: The Complete Collection is well-researched and profusely illustrated. It is available only at Borders B&M, where it is stickered at $19.99 but now rings up at $9.97. A great deal if you are into comic strips.

Already picked up a few months ago at a waldenbooks in the bargin bin section for about $4 and some change after tax. Check there and see, you might still find one there. Since it was in the bargin bin its gonna be a ymmv thing.
