It would be BADASS if you gave me a hand!

Most of you know me as Mookyjooky, I'm an old CAG (some of you met me at PAX East) and I this has been the only forum I've ever really been a part of. Maybe because its the best. (I really mean it)

Now, here's a favor I'm asking of you (we're still friends if you dont or cant) - MYSPACE is having some contest called "Rock the Space" and if you win, you get a recording contract... blah blah blah...

I was thinking that if enough CAGs voted, I would win. So please, take 10 seconds of your time and click on the link below (ABOVE TOO) and click vote. Its that simple.

OLD STUFF I WROTE IN MARCH:
-----------------------------------------------------

Ok guys, I've got to ask a favor. It’s actually a two-part favor.

1. What would you think I could do to get more fans, followers & listeners on my band pages? I'm trying to pull a career together, and it hard.. but I'm pushing through. The only thing I'm worried about is at what rate? I don’t want to be 35 when I finally get enough of a digital presence to make a difference.

2. Would any of you guys do me a favor and do at least one, or a couple of these below? I need to get a following together. (Even if you don’t care for my music, I would appreciate the gesture for a fellow veteran CAG.) I sincerely promise to keep the spam to a minimum.

Listen to my music, favorite it or suggest it to others (http://www.reverbnation.com/wesleyellis)
Friend me on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/profile.php?ref=name&id=503561930)
Follow me on Twitter (http://www.twitter.com/wesellis)
Friend me on Myspace (http://www.myspace.com/wesleyellis)
Friend me on Bebo (http://apps.bebo.com/my-band/artist/wesleyellis)

Stumble any of these, or all of these on Stumbleupon.
Digg any of these, or all of these on Digg.

SERIOUSLY GUYS, ANYTHING YOU COULD DO WOULD BE AWESOME.

I'VE BEEN A LONG TIME MEMBER OF CAG AND IT'S THE BEST FORUM I'VE EVER BEEN ON. YOU WOULD BE HELPING ME IMMENSELY WITH 2 MINUTES OF WORK.

---------------------------------------------------

I dont know if you guys remember a thread I opened about 2 years ago about trying to make a CD. But I'm finally doing it, and I'm about 5 songs into an 11 song CD.

Its been a long road, but I've been lucky enough to finally get everything together to finally make a CD... and I'm about 1/2 way through.

It may not be the kind of music you listen to, but being a CAG for as long as I have.. I just felt like sharing. So if you're interested, you can click on this link and just play the first single in the media player in the first post.

I'm currently working on the site, to reflect the album style. I'll be posting the other 4 once I get the site up to snuff with a full sized media player.

But I'd love to know what you think! Thanks fellow CAGs!

PS: I know I havent been on as much as I used to, here's why =D

Hey, pretty good man. I hear a little Dave Matthews (I'm guessing because you're from Charlottesville, haha) mixed with a little Counting Crows. Cool vibe to the song. I could nitpick some things, but I'm not going to rag on a fellow musician. Good luck with the CD. I don't play out as much as I used to anymore, but I've got a channel on Youtube. Check it out if you get a chance.

thanks rocko, did it... but if you go to the main page, its a wordpress blog. So it is that link, kinda. Its the first post. =D

I said it before when you posted this in it's starting phase, it's not for me but it's good and it's certainly way better than SuperhappyfuntimeHalo2multiplayertipstricksandguides.com that you did all that time ago.

Has that tried and true sound to it, but sounds great. Keep it up, man. Let me know if/when it goes up on iTunes or CD Baby or whatever.

Good quality recording sounds like. Nice looking website. here in bham, al this guy Reg (Scott Register) is real big into singer/songwriter stuff. He has a weekly show Reg's Coffeehouse and then a daily morning show - all on our local alternative/indie type radio station live 100.5.

http://live1005online.com/showdj.asp?DJID=35662

Might be worth sending a promo to him - he's been doing this stuff forever and loves the singer/songwriter type stuff - loves "discovering" new talent. Couldn't hurt.

Holy crap, I got played on the radio this weekend! I was talking to a Radio DJ "whatever their really called" - at the studio and he said it sounded pretty good. I joked "You should play it, then" - he ask for a copy and when I got out of "The Book of Eli" movie I put on the radio, and my song was on. I checked twice to see if it was a CD I left in my car and not the radio. Haha! It was pretty surreal.

Not gonna lie i was expecting some lame video game techno gay shit, but was surprised. It sounded pretty good, good luck with your cd.

Im not gonna lie, I am surprised how good it sounds, eerie similar to John Mayor, but that cant be a bad thing, good voice, I'll purchase your CD for my girl when it shelves.

You could be the poor man's John Mayer on Hip-Hop hooks, if you really want to be.

If not, that is cool. Your voice is really nice, sort of like a more hollow John Mayer, I suppose. The similarity to John Mayer is definitely good for you, since all the ladies love him.

Have you thought about putting your songs on sites like Sound Click? It'd be a decent way to see how well liked your music is while getting money for it. Probably not the best reference to make, but that is how soulja boy got started.. putting his songs on those types of sites till he started making good money on it then the right people noticed and signed him.

The internet at this point is littered with musical acts. It is hard to get yourself recognized digitally due to all the crap that is littered.

Easy way is to gain fans is to do it the old fashion way by putting up fliers and playing shows in your surrounding area. Most people get discovered from playing shows, not from their digital presense. Try to work with venues to play/open for similar acts that have a big fan base. The majority of the acts I listen to today is because I saw them performing with another artist I like.

Try last.fm, then go to some artist's pages who sound similar to you, and message a bunch of people with links to your page. I've had bands send me links to their music, and I've been pleasantly surprised.

-1st if you haven't added your songs to itunes / sound click / whatever other website do this.
-On your bands page link to your individual songs for sale.
-*You may even want to go as far as making a website with its own domain*
-Get T-shirts made with your link on them and wear them / give them to friends to wear
-Get a car decal / magnet / bumper sticker, whichever you choose, with your link on it and put it on your car.
-Get some local gigs, make some money, start building a fan base locally.
-After shows give out t-shirts that look cool but also have your bands link on it. More free advertisement
-Maybe sell your cd after your shows.
-Once you start building a fan base locally word of mouth helps spread your music.
-Use this local fan base to get your songs requested on the radio.
-Once your song starts getting radio play you'll start getting people's attention and good things will start happening.

This is how I would personally go about doing it.

Yea, when I clicked on OK Sarah and it played, I thought it was a John Mayer song for the first few seconds, but then heard the differences in voice and assumed your not a dbag.

Not my type of music but it sounds clean and I could certainly see this on VH1. Solid work man, keep it up!

I want to personally say THANK YOU for the CAGs who came in with the support on Facebook! Everytime someone fans me, everytime someone even listens to my music - I go up in rank! Even if you dont finish the song. EVERYTHING YOU DO HELPS! THANKS again guys! This makes me proud to be a long-standing CAG! You guys ALWAYS come through.

I promise I'm not a DBag... =D

Also, one of those songs "Ending of Innocence" is over 10 years old. Shame I didnt hit this as fast as I could of. I was playing Persona 2 when I wrote it. Thats how long ago it was.

If I went to a music school, and not poor.. I probably would of made it more of a priority. Now I'm a mayer rip-off. But shaq-fu it, Its my dream and I cant change my style at this point. The next CD through, I plan on mixing it up.

Well, at least one of my friends added your fan page. I just clicked the "share" link and posted a bulletin about your fan page, so hopefully some of my Facebook friends will check out your music. I've really been enjoying it. I'd definitely buy a CD, or see you live if you ever performed in southern California (I know you're on the opposite end of the country).

Got an email from Myspace, I'm 3rd in the top three for votes for Fan Favorite on Rock The Space 2. I'm working overtime to get in there! =D

Sucks that it doesnt show how many votes for me.
