Hopefully the PS3 CE will come back in stock, dunno if they have any plans to make a second printing, I'll see. Don't care about extras at all, but for the same price, might as well get a nice tin case and art book
 
has anyone contacted Newegg about whether their initial pre-orders that said CE are actually going to be the CE? I sent a message through the e-mail support asking this and have yet to get an answer.

yup. did a chat this morning and they said that they could not verify which version I will be getting (long story short). I preordered when it still said collectors edition. such a stupid problem to have...

Talked with a newegg rep this morning and all he could tell me was to contact the manufacturer (namco bandai) since that is where they get their product from. So I'm inclined to believe that they won't get the CE...especially since their product page no longer has the description. Although this is just my opinion (I'm still pre-ordering from them), just hoping that they still have the CE regardless of what the page says. If not, oh well. That's what I get for waiting it to be cheaper on my amazon gold box.

Thank you for reminding me about this. I chatted with customer service and while they wouldn't apply it to any of my current orders, they did convert it to a general credit for a future purchase. Awesome.

I just did. Austin was my customer "care" specialist. He said he can't gaurantee the version of the game. I said ok, but at the time i ordered it clearly said I was ordering the CE, so that is what I expect. If i do not receive that, i will expect a full refund with no additional fee's. He says they can only do that if the product is defective. I say I would consider receiving the wrong item defective, and would expect a full refund. fuck that. I'm keeping my CE order. Getting a refund if its not what i ordered. I'll try and make another pre-order where the CE is gauranteed though. At this point, where do you recommend? Maybe instore at Bestbuy or gamestop and try for a K-mart price match?
 
I called my local best buy store and they are still offering the CE pre-order as it is out of stock online so that is probably your best bet, Just make sure it says "collector's edition" on the pre-order paperwork. If you've got any trade-ins one of their deals is +40% trade-in value when you pre-order a game and that expires the 10/2.

hmm that is disappointing . I was late to act and ended up preordering late from them (since they were the only ones who still had the PS3 one in stock). Alas my order still hasn't shown up shown up on my account, so double bad sign.
 
I find it hilarious the kids are complaining about lack of party chat. Are you seriously that needy & pathetic you need to be around others 24/7? Good thing I started playing video games during the 80s or else I'd be the same as the CoD generation; avoiding great games because of moronic things like this.

I checked at my Best Buy and we actually got an employee memo about the Dark Souls CE. It said that it and the regular edition have the same sku so we have to be diligent about putting aside those CEs until all preorders have been fulfilled.

So to all those considering preordering it from Best Buy, you should probably do it now before they actually ship.

So they are telling you to do their jobs. They are selling the product, they should contact the manufacturer (namco bandai) and know what product they are actually selling. Such bullshit. Chances are Newegg already has the CE's if they are going to, or just the standard edition if they never will.

On another note. I took the advice here and called bestbuy. That happened to me once with another product. When that happened it was because it was close to release date.
 
What is the best/cheapest place to get it from? I don't care about getting the CE or not, I simply want to get it as cheap as possible or a good store credit or whatever.

Yep, did the same thing and went to best buy and preordered there. Even though the receipt didn't say CE, they checked their system and they only have the CE in their computer. But the BB rep printed out another CE receipt from their kiosk and stapled it to my preorder receipt just in case :3

At first I was like...

fuck this CE, I'm cancelling my pre-order! It's useless without the printed guide! Don't waste your money on this! Bait and switch! Doesn't matter which edition of the game I get, all I want is the game itself. The "extras" suck.

Then I was like...

God damnit, the CE is gone on Amazon! Which edition of the game is Newegg shipping?! Which store still has the CE up for sale?! Which version am I getting?!

All jokes aside, I have maintained my Collector's Edition pre-order of the game on Amazon since May. No worries here either way. Hopefully all of you out there who suddenly want the game now that it's OOS find a copy.

Good god this game looks amazing. I really didn't care to much for it after I watched my roommate play demon souls a year or so ago and he raged so hard he threw his controller at the wall but this game looks like so much fun. I want a game that will hold my attention for months on end and challenging. I think I'm picking this game up now for the 360. Also since I recently quit wow this can be my wow junkie filler.

What? I've bought tons of stuff from Newegg. Why are they a horrible company? I have Uncharted 3 on pre-order from them. I've never had any problems with Newegg, so what happened?

Because they are utter shit when it comes to pre-orders.

I pre-ordered Dragon Age: Signature Edition from them (when it was still valid for the timeline). They proceeded to tell me "Sorry, we're sold out and we don't know when we'll be back in stock for that." after my pre-order. I called and bitched, and explained the situation. A $10 coupon promise (which I didn't get), and no game later, I ended up getting lucky at Gamestop and saying "fuck you Newegg".

Since then, I've read numerous complaints about similar mess ups on Neweggs part with pre-orders. Wrong versions (ie: not CE) being sent, them overselling editions, horrible customer service, and ridiculous shipping times after the game has released.

Despite the price, it's just not worth the stress / hassle to do business with them when it comes to gaming. Computer parts? Sure. Gaming? I'll pass.
 
Also, are there any listed reviews or comparisons of the 360 version vs the PS3 for Dark Souls? Or confirmed information on the different versions? (IE: Party chat being disabled on 360, servers being Microsoft ran instead of private ran on 360, etc.)

I'm really torn. I'm an achievement whore and prefer the 360 controller, but I don't want to end up with a gimped version of the game. I don't care if I'm playing with more experienced people or things like that. But, I don't want to end up with a buggier or neglected version. Any official word anywhere?

Yeah I am wondering as well although a key to that, for me at least, is what system was the lead platform?

If they started making this game on the PS3 and are porting it over to the 360, odds are it'll be better (even if its only slightly) on the PS3 and being that I am used to the controls of Demons Souls (I dont expect much of a change there) then it'll be an easy pick for me.

BUT, you never know and if its better performing on the 360 then I am heading that way and I'll get used to the controls I dont care.

I'm not the one that called them a horrible company. That's just a quote from someone else that I noticed a few weeks ago. At that time i had not had a bad experience with Newegg and defended them like you. Now I have had a bad experience with them, and get why people have issues with them. Lots of people seem to be having problems with them recently. My issue is not a big one, but the customer rep and policy is what I disliked.

In my case four months ago I pre-ordered Dark Souls Collectors edition. Of course they are not giving us the consumer this information, but it is likely that I and everyone who did that were downgraded to receiving the standard edition at the same price with no notice. I've sent two messages asking about this, the first never got a response, the second in a customer service chat took an hour between waiting around and the customer reps one line corporate fed response. He had no grasp of the situation after repeated attempts to explain it. Just kept repeating a policy statement of "we can't guarantee the version of the game that you will receive. We only waive refund fees if the item is defective." I kept trying to explain the product page clearly said i was ordering the collectors edition, if i dont receive that i would consider the product different than advertised and defective. He kept saying his corporate line. It was a big waste of time that many have had it seems.

Now the CE selling out i can understand. But it seems they have zero copies of the CE. In that case, everyone who pre-ordered the game with them when they were advertising that it was the CE should be notified. And if they want to do a return it should be free.

When it comes to pre-ordering a CE or special version of a game I would definently avoid Newegg. If they mess it up, which they probably will, they wont care and they will charge fee's for a return. Overstock.com, gamestop.com messed up my dragon age II CE orders, but it was an easy and free return. If Newegg does not do this, they deserve to lose customers because of it.

Could I ask where you are getting this from? Who exactly said they have 'zero' CE copies? I'm a little confused - are you saying the CR told you there were no CE's and never were? Or is this just an assumption on your part?
BTW- The link below is the old CAG post for a discount on the Newegg CE version. Clearly Newegg did offer the CE version in August. Their email newsletter advertised the CE as well.

Seems like a lot of people are panicking about the Dark Souls CE preorder. Kind of funny, because this game seems to have gotten no discounts from online sellers (no preorder credits like Amazon usually offers), and they neutered the CE to remove the physical strategy guide and physical soundtrack. I'll wait till this game is sub-$20, not worth all the ridiculous overhype for a cheesy "CE". Plus, if you really cared about the strategy guide, just get the Future Press Dark Souls guide, it will be 100x better than any pack-in guide. Everyone needs to just chill out, its not that big a deal.
 
NewEgg is usually very solid though I haven't pre-ordered from them before. I've purchased a lot of hardware from them and their customer service has been excellent.

I wouldn't be so quick to blame them if this goes south - Namco made promises to customers that it later went back on (digital goods in the CE).. I wouldn't be surprised if they did the same to retailers also.

I should have gotten a screen capture of my conversation with the Newegg rep as well, but i didn't. My statement is just that it Seems that newegg has zero CE copies. The rep repeatedly told me i should cancel the order if i want the CE, then re-order the upgraded version even though Newegg does not have it listed anymore. So thats a lost customer. He would or could not tell me whether they are getting the CE or not. So I don't know, but the customer service rep encouraging me to cancel the order leads me to believe they have none.
