Best Buy Upgrade & Save - Now With 100% More Wikification!!

How does it work?
Trade in ANY DVD (except for porn, you weirdos) and get a $5 off coupon towards any Blu-Ray priced $9.99 or above.
Yes, ANY DVD - this includes things you bought at the Dollar Store, individual discs from compilations or TV shows, and ex-rentals from Blockbuster (RIP).
Cases and artwork aren't required, but it definitely increases the acceptance rate if you're bringing in disc four of Sanford & Son's third season.

Wait, that's it? There has to be more to it, right?
Well, not really. It's pretty simple.
Step 1. Trade in DVD's for $5 off coupons.
Step 2. ???
Step 3. Profit!

The usual FAQ/tips/etc.
Coupons are 1:1 - for each DVD traded, one coupon is given.
Coupons don't have to be used at time of trade in.
Coupons do not stack with each other. No combining U&S coupons for $40 off of the Star Wars box set.
Coupons MAY stack with price matches, manufacturer coupons, and current Best Buy promos. YMMV, ya know?
Discounts are taken from the selling price of the Blu-Ray $9.99 or higher. $9.99 becomes $4.99, $12.99 becomes $7.99, and so on. $4.99 Blu-Rays are still $4.99 though.
Coupons are B&M only - must be redeemed in-store.

Since this is a wiki post now, feel free to add in suggested titles (I prefer those $9.99 gems or sale items that become $4.99 after coupon, but to each their own) down below.

For a pretty comprehensive list, go here -> WV Matsui to the rescue! You should all give him a dollar.
Will they take the Sandlot coupon even though it says "redeem at Walmart" on it?
They have to if you buy the Blu-ray + DVD combo pack because it says "Manufacturer Coupon" not Walmart only. It has the bar code that the manufacturer scans to pay the retailer back.
My store had stacks of the coupons at the register.
You only need the receipt but they are obligated to give you a coupon. Some stores who do not have the cards just print them out.

Do you guys know if there will be a free ticket promotion for the upcoming Superman movie? I'd like to use the $5 coupon towards Superman Returns or one of the animated movies if this happened.

What's the current price for Django Unchained?
Wow.. Hansel and Gretel already been released and on $10 list?
Not sure which you're talking about, but there was a Hansel and Gretel released on bluray several years ago. I assume you're thinking of a different one.

Probably the new one with Jeremy Renner.

Went to a garage sale on Saturday and found a box of 8 Gospel concert DVDs for 25 cents each. They all have UPC codes, so I assume they will work for the promo. Now we just need a sale on Disney blu-rays.

Did Best Buy purposely made most of their blu-rays not available for store pickup? The movies I want to get are not available in stores or don't have that selection and only available for online orders. What's up with that?

it's because you can only pick up movies if they available in-store and bestbuy can't possibly put every movie ever made in their stores. Movies stocked in store (whether old or new) are generally movies that are more popular that will sell.

Less popular movies are stocked in their warehouses and can be bought from their website. It makes sense.

I have a feeling I'll end up finding some of the movies at Best Buy stores that Best Buy online is not allowing for me to check if the movie is in stock. It happened to me the last time.

It seems like every time this promotion comes back, Attack the Block comes up in conversation. I figured if it keeps making it onto someone's list, it's probably worth watching.

Attack the Block - $5
Stripes - $5
The Day - $5
Willow - $8

I'd have bought Willow yesterday, but they didn't have the sale price on the shelf at that store. I'm actually glad they didn't, because I found one lone copy with a slipcover on it at another store today.

Picked up the 3 Lord of the Rings movies and Mortal Kombat Legacy for $5 a pop. That'll do for this week, I think.

I'm hoping Perks of Being a Wallflower goes on sale at some point during this promo. I thought it was pretty good when I Netflix'd it, but I have been getting the itch to buy it the more I think about it.

YMMV on this
I able to get BBY to not only order me a blu that wasn't in the store but also PM walmart, and got it shipped to my house.

I mentioned that some people have had an issue with getting a BBY to apply the coupon to an online purchase, if the blu was not in the store
She said that if the title you want is not in store and if ship to store is not an option to just order the blu at full price to your house, then do return and re-buy with coupon at the store. (you do have 2.5 weeks) Good luck.

Idiots raised BSG BC to $27...really BBY? (cheapest elsewhere was $22, too much)

Got The Thing (1982) and Resident Evil Retribution 3D for $20. Had a little trouble with The Thing because at first they said that they can't apply coupons to things on sale already, then she overrided it. I have a feeling that the coupon for $8 Fandango cash can be used towards any movie, anyone know if that's true?

Picked up:

(Prices before Coupon)
Django Unchained BB SE - $24.99
Inglourious Bastards -$9.99
The Raid Redemption - $9.99
Attack the Block - $9.99
The Incredible Hulk - $11.99 (w/ Oblivion movie cash)

They also had Clash and Wrath of the Titans 3D at $14.99, and I looked and looked for the Sandlot SE but couldn't find a copy.

If you go again to look, make sure you print out the $2.50 coupon from coupons.com. It will stack and work, despite saying Wal-Mart on it.

This weeks haul:

Spawm: $5
Gandhi: $5
Blade Runner The Final Cut: $5
The Pirates Band of Misfits: $5
Lawrence of Arabia: $5
Batman Forever: $5
The Raid Redemption: $5
The Princess Diaries 1&2: $13

If you really want Sandlot BD/DVD I would call a store and have them look up on hands. The DFW area doesn't have in stock and only 4 on order total for 2 stores. So I used Express Lane for the first time. They took $5 off for the upgrade & save coupon but since Express Lane can't scan manufacturer coupons. I am thinking of calling corporate and seeing if I can get my $2.50 + tax back.

I also got Paul with Oblivion coupon for $1.16 after upgrade and save coupon and reward zone certificate. I had get a manager to override the system because it wouldn't take off for the upgrade and save coupon.

I then got The Other Guys for $.82 without any troubles using a upgrade and save coupon and reward certificate.

Thanks I will!

Here is my haul for today (all prices after $5 coupon)

A few good men ($5)
Airplane! ($5)
Planes Trains & Autos ($5)
Big Bang Theory S1 ($15)

probably go back tomorrow and get seasons 2-4 of Big Bang since they are on sale.

Jeff

Grabbed Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle's I/II for $5 a piece. Going to hold off on getting Batman and Batman Returns until the steel books come out (if they do). Hoping to special order Nightwatch, Daywatch, and maybe Evil Dead.
How come people are picking up Spawn? I've heard that it's a bad movie.
It's not Iron Man or X2 good, but it is decent, especially for a mid-90's movie

I picked up:

The Avengers ($14.99)
Dredd ($14.99)
The Hobbit ($14.99)
The Amazing Spider-Man ($12.99)
Looper ($12.99)
Hugo 3-D ($9.99)
Warrior ($4.99)
Wyatt Earp / The Assassination of Jesse James ($4.99)
The Prestige ($4.99)
Serenity ($4.99)

I may go back next weekend for a few more.

It is. Total crap. If anyone else tells you otherwise, their taste is questionable.

I just decided to go ahead and try this for The Sandlot. I'm tired of going into the store and them not having it. My only question with this is does anyone know if you do a return in store, are they supposed to ship the item back to a bestbuy.com warehouse? Or would the product eventually just be put on a shelf in that store? That's really the only argument I could see them having for not wanting to allow a return/rebuy.

My buddy literally returned it and re bought it right there on the spot. Also if you can try and ask them to pm the $5 off but that is Highly YMMV.

PM the $5 off? It's $9.99 on the website. Are you talking about the $2.50 manufacturer's coupon? Honestly...even if they won't take that too, I'd just be happy to finally get the damn movie for $5 + tax (especially considering it's a combo pack). I've never been able to find that movie during any of the U&S promos.

I mean goto the store, and explain nicely to the people is CS, that you would really like this film but it is never in stock at the store. You wanted to use your upgrade coupon for it. and ask if they would kindly find a way (dont say pm) if its a nice employee they will try and go the extra mile and just take the $5 off (via their pm system) and just ship it to your house.

If they say no (what I call Plan B) buy it to your house and just go and return and re-buy with the coupon. Worst come to worst you lose some time, if the movie is that important to you.

I got a nice employee who was willing to just match the $5 since they would never carry my title in the store. As always it depends on the employee.

I ordered in store via Express Lane at the customer service desk. They took $5 for the upgrade & save coupon but their Express Lane system won't allow them to use manufacture coupons. So if the want The Sandlot combo pack for $2.49 +tax order it online at home then return to a Best Buy store then rebuy right away using the upgrade & save coupon and manufacture coupon. But remember Best Buy tracks returns via another company that has contracts with other companies and if you return too much they can decline the return. No manager at Best Buy can override that system.

This is great. Got five Blu-rays:

- Serenity ($4.99)
- Kick-ass ($4.99)
- Close Encounters ($4.99)
- Lawrence of Arabia ($4.99)
- Gandhi ($4.99)

Yeah, I'm going to give return/rebuy a shot. My BB is like 15 minutes away now, and I'd hate to go out there to get shot down on the Express Lane thing. At least with the return/rebuy, I'll have the movie in my hand, and it'll become a game of cat and mouse in whether or not they want to risk losing a sale or whether I want to just pay $10 for the damn movie to finally own it, lol. Either way, I'll be polite. The most important thing though will be finding a knowledgable employee. I'm also not worried about too many returns as I rarely shop at BB. Hoping to at least get it for $5. $2.50 would just be ridiculous good fortune.

You guys weren't kidding about this deal being inconsistent! First Best Buy I went to today had the coupons, but asked me to pick the movies out and bring them to the desk. The second Best Buy gave me the coupons instead. Neither checked the movies, but the coupon says, "Your original DVD must have been commercially packaged and with the original case."

Doesn't bother me they aren't following that though :)

Oh man, I need to get in on this. Been looking to pick up Pulp Fiction & Inglourious Basterds, and it looks like this will work quite well for that endeavor.
