Dead Rising 2: Case Zero - Available Now

Not really feeling this. The time limitations just take me out of the game. Knowing that I have to complete a certain task by X time kills it for me. There's no added sense of urgency, I have no connection to the characters or anything remotely like that to make me WANT to complete the objective by X time. Sadly, I think I'm going to cancel my pre-order :(

EDIT: Don't get me wrong, I like killing zombies, but Left 4 Dead 2 does this much better...

Dead Rising 1 had time limits too. I don't see how it hurts the game much, since your XP and money carry over to subsequent playthroughs.

Yup.

Yup.

The last time I played Dead Rising 1 was 2006 according to the Xbox... don't think I got very far because I only had six achievements. If I really enjoyed Case Zero (enough to get 200/200), is it worth it to go back and play Dead Rising 1?

I have no idea why I stopped playing, so I don't know if Dead Rising 1 was flawed in some way that Case Zero corrected.

I loved the first dead rising. You probably got to a point in the game where you needed to start over to be able to progress, and it was further in the game than you would have liked.

The best advice someone gave me is the first like 3 or 4 times you die in dead rising 1, just restart and keep your level progression instead of trying to replay from the save, then you will be a little overpowered for the beginning of the game and have a better idea of what you need to do so you don't screw yourself over later.

Despite it's problems, Dead Rising is a really unique experience that I think is worth playing for sure, even now.

Yes its definitely worth it to go back and play it. I started it back up a few months ago myself and really enjoyed it. I fucked up on the ending though so I'm kinda stuck, I either go back to save someone for one ending...which Is pretty much impossible, or I leave my X360 on for a full day and wait for the chopper.

I did full 1000/1000 so I played the hell out of Dead Rising 1. I'm just sad that the long load times are still around mostly, I would have hoped those would be nearly gone by now.

Hopefully in the full game a game install will help to alleviate those long load times. Anyway, only thing I miss is taking pictures. It would have been nice to snap photos for the memories...
I'd hardly call VA an advancement. Game was perfect as-is. Little tweaks here and there and they're set. Just need to iron out some engine issues.
You wouldn't call voice acting an advancement? Then why do any games have voice acting at all?

Lots of money to throw away
Can you not walk on top of Zombies on this one? Or is this something you unlock as you level up?
I can't find a list of when skills unlock, but was that an early unlock in the original game?
I can't find a list of when skills unlock, but was that an early unlock in the original game?
I can't recall but I think it was part of an early unlock. I remember that there was an achievement for walking on top of zombie heads for x amount of time.

I thought the skills were random as to when you got them in the first game, I recall getting the zombie walk later in the game. I keep forgetting while playing Case Zero that I don't have any of the skills I unlocked with Frank.

i got to level 3 and the only thing i unlocked was back escape or something.

well this arcade game is on the hard drive or for some on a usb stick and the load times are horrid, so I figure I'll be sitting through crap load times when the retail game is out

yea load times were ridiculous, every time i go from outside in or from inside to the roof. Kinda ridiculous. Also i found the combining animation annoying and just wanted to skip through it.

You can skip the combining animation as soon as it starts. I think you press start; at work, can't check right now.

I meant that I thought the skills were random as to what level you got them at in the first Dead Rising. I think everyone gets the Backdrop for Case Zero.

And yes, you can skip the crafting animation by pressing start.

You can just press start to skip the combining animation.

Beat the game but I am not sure if I will be getting the full game. I was looking forward to driving the motorcycle with chainsaws attached to the handlebars but the driving in this thing sucked. This game was about the right length for me so if the game doesn't add a lot more things it will probably get boring for me.

So, like I said, despite my initial feelings on this one, I put down my $5, and I must say, I really enjoyed it. I really hope developers and publishers don't start thinking this is a great idea (paying for a short "prequel"), but this one time, it wasn't bad. Set up the main story nice and really wet my appetite for more zombie killing fun. I loved the first game and am really looking forward to this one.

Definitely agree that the driving is awful, and I was also looking forward to the motorcycle/chainsaw combo. Now, I don't think I could even be bothered with it, unless they have been working on fixing the driving mechanics.

One thing: did anyone else have the sound cut out on them during the last two cut scenes of Ending A?

The demo actually swayed me to get the real game. At first it was vaguely on my radar.

The driving wasn't a big deal for me, it was a small part of the game and I expect it will be the same in the actual game. Cars/motorcycles in the first game were a little arcadey as well. Looks like that's one thing that didn't get an upgrade.

You do realize that this is really just a small percentage of the overall game right?

Bought the game earlier today and just got 200/200 points. The only achievement that giltched was creating the first combo weapon, so I moved my game save from the hard drive to a USB drive, then created a new save and the achievement popped up after making the spiked bat.

...the draw distance and pop-ins are horrible though. I'll eventually get it, but probably at the $20 price point. I have a 'gut' feeling Capcom will dump DLC costumes all over this run.

I just replayed one of my saves and got the achievements for rescuing everyone, beating the boss, and escaping with Katie. Nothing on completing the bike or doing all 6 combos. I'm about to try the spiked bat trick you just mentioned menikmati.

EDIT: Nope...no luck.

This is most likely due to it being a under 1GB download arcade game, and less on poor programming. The finished product will most likely not have as bad, if even a "bad" pop-in problem.

You also have to remember, the game itself is pushing hardware due to having x number of characters on-screen at one time.

for $5, worth it as it's a quick and easy game to play. I still haven't gotten 4 out of 12 achievements but that's no biggie for me as after awhile you get bored of it but then again, it's just made to hold you over until the official game releases soon. beat it in under 2 hours and not buying the retail game until a price drop probably due to reach and hoping to play a few other games as well.

and the load screens? why are there load screens where there shouldn't be any? the loads do seem out-of-place and take an unnaturally long time. do you think installing this game on the HDD might improve it? wait, it is!! now what?

I don't understand how load screens are taking away from the gameplay or experience of the game. DR1 had the same kind of load screens, which weren't a problem then, so why are they a problem now?

I agree that the long load times are pretty unacceptable and I think you'll be mistaken if you think it'll be better in full retail DR2.

I'd love to be proven wrong as I loved dr1 (minus the load screens and messages from the janitor) and I should be getting dr2.

Meh, if so it's not like it will be the first game I've sat through load screens for. If I can handle it each time I went to a different floor in the Normandy for Mass Effect 2, it isn't going to be all that much of a hassle if it ends up being a problem for Dead Rising 2. At least to me.

Personally my biggest fear was the fact that a different developer was going to make the sequel, especially a developer which is more known for arcade baseball games. Case Zero has eased my concern. Sure I like to see improvements in a series, but there aren't any other games quite like Dead Rising so personally I'm just happy with what has stayed the same instead of angry about what hasn't changed.

Is this your poor attempt at trolling?

No, it was my attempt to point out a reasonable arguement about the load screens that the person quoting you appeared to ignore.

Welcome to the Dead Rising series, a land of long load times, escort missions, and a shit ton of zombies.

I found my problem...I was under the impression that there are 8 combos, turns out I was missing the "Paddle-Saw" = Chainsaw + Paddle.

Finally 200/200 last night...awesome game!
Where is the paddle at?
Next to the house where you save the pawn shop dude by the white van. Leaning on the floor by the side of the house facing the desert.

what the hell i cant get the achievement for making a weapon!!!! for some reason the game wont give me the points. i have every other achievement in the damn game what the hell!!!

For anyone complaining about the load times, have you ever played Modnation Racers? I know it's a 360 to PS3 comparison, but still...the load times for this are nowhere near the level of Modnation. Yes, maybe these occur too frequently, but it's pretty standard to have a loading screen when entering a new building. The problem is, since this is a XBLA game, the map is incredibly small. DR1 had loading screens as well, but at least the areas were a little more spread out. Honestly, just have a drink or a bag of chips/pretzels nearby while you're playing and you'll at least have something to do while the game loads. Under those conditions, it's really not that bad.

Also, thanks LP for posting that last combo. I also thought there were only 8 and was wondering why I wasn't getting the achievement.
