Dead Rising 2 - Gen. Discussion & Info - Out now!
I don't see why not, stores are entrusted all the time to hand out arguably more valuable items as pre-order bonuses; soundtracks, t-shirts, art books, and so forth. I don't see why they couldn't handle a couple of brochures for the CE edition. Not that it really matters to me, as I didn't go for the CE anyway.
As I said before, the reason why not is because stuff like that constantly disappears from stores all the time, especially GameStop. If you've never lost out on a pre-order bonus before, you're lucky, because I certainly have, and I know plenty of people who have, as well. I would much rather a company find a way to package everything correctly, not entrust anything to some 18-year old that is looking for stuff to sell on eBay.

Don't be afraid to bypass hard shit and save it for another play through. You're not going to be able to do major work until Chuck is maxed out.

No I have not, but I also don't buy games from Gamestop. Of course it would have been better for Capcom to package it all together, I'm not saying that having retail stores hand out the extras is the best way of doing things; but I think it's better than the alternative of shoving everything in the case haphazardly like they did.

Clearly, Capcom did not spend as much time thinking about their packaging as we have here.

It's one of the main story parts. I wound up beating it though, it just took me tons of tries.

I found that melee was the best way to go. I brought in a couple nailbats and swords and had no issues. Just make sure to have some food as the place is only full of liquor and the fight gets fatal if they catch you while ur puking.

The katana's they drop count as novelty items, so the bladed & novelty magazines will boost their durability by 3x each.
I LOVE that the civilians are more aggressive and the zombies ignore them more and kind of just focus on Chuck. I don't loathe rescuing civilians now!
Yeah, I escorted 5 survivors at once earlier without much issue. They do tend to hit you a lot especially if they have guns but it doesn't seem to do a whole lot of damage. Screwed around for the first playthrough and got to level 23. Almost done with day one on the second and I've done everything that was asked so far. Wonder if rescuing everybody will be easier than it was in DR1. One thing I don't like is the achievement descriptions. A lot of them give no clue whether they can be done over multiple playthroughs of if they need to be done in one. Unfortunately it will probably be like DR1 where you have to eat everything, wear everything, etc. in one go.

Coming in first in a Terror Is Reality episode online nets you the
"Championship Jacket."
Basically get the achievement "Win Big." I turned it off after unlocking it so I assume it's like the first game and will show up in the safehouse for Chuck to wear.

TIR is fun for an hour or two... not something I'll keep going back to, though. The random element makes it annoying, and Ramsterball sucks.
For those that have the game, is it possible to do local co-op, or is online co-op only?
No local co-op.

They do have a drop in online co-op system. When you are playing you will receive random calls from players looking to join your game. Seems like it could be cool, but lol they would probably kill your survivors.

Go to Kathy's Space. Grab one of the purse's towards the back on a bench. Keep hitting zombies until it "breaks" for a .. unique item

actually, my friend just told me that what's in the purses are random.. so.. bust open purses. You'll know it when you see it.

?

Also if you throw and hit something with the purse it will break right away.
It's one of the main story parts. I wound up beating it though, it just took me tons of tries.
Oh yeah, main story included. If you fail the story there's still fun to be had around Fortune City! IMO, the game is frustrating with such little health and so few inventory spaces in the beginning. My goal right now is to just fuck around, but unfortunately you need to make it so far into the story if you want to have an easy time getting where you want to go, because elevators don't work, doors are locked etc. until you do certain things ion the main story.

I had a blast playing co-op with a friend of mine up to the point where we tried
rescuing the C.U.R.E. survivor
only to find out
he was a psychopath boss.

Let's just say 'brutal' is one way to describe our endeavor especially when my friend accidentally triggered the scene by mistake while heading to the nearest bathroom to save. We had two survivors with us as well (one was armed with a shotgun) btw which made matters worse as they were hitting US more than the boss himself. I must have died like four times. I am NOT looking forward to fighting him in single player. The survivors never had a chance.

This guy is pretty tough for a dirty hippie (no offense to dirty hippies). I'm thinking it'll be easier on my second run through the game.

I'm on the fence about picking this up for the 360. On one hand, I played Dead Rising 1 when it first came out and never really got the concept of having to restart the game over and over with my upgraded stuff if I failed the main story, yet on the other hand, I love the zombie genre. What do I do? :(

Buy it at Kmart for a $20 gaming coupon to use on another game and enjoy yourself? ;)

Come on man... this is the only game I know of where
fireworks and a damn pipe can make a fully functional rocket launcher.
How can you possibly say no to that?

it's literally the same game as the first with new toys to play with. if you didn't like the mechanics of the first, you probably won't like the mechanics of the seconds.

Well, just came across some survivors I can only rescue
if I beat them in Poker. I suck at poker. All the lightsabers and nailbats can't help me now...anyone have any tips?

It's kind of irritating fighting the psychos because you have to go into the fight with the means to kill them. There's never anything around it seems that can help you win if you went in just a nail bat a magazine and a few random parts. You're just fucked.

Ugh... I've reached a point in the game where damn near EVERY message leads to a psychopath boss battle. F*ck that shit. I barely survived the last one with the
TIV 'sisters'. (lol riiiiiighhhhttt...)
If I can't beat the next one then I'm moving on with the rest of the game. I've already saved damn near over 30 people anyway. It's time to buy more Zombrex, stock up on OJ and hunt for magazines/combo cards for the next play-through or an overtime scenario.

I'm honestly not in mood for hunting down save points and guns right now.

exactly!

I basically steer clear of the side missions. Most of the time I go to do one, it winds up being a psycho that I'm not equipped to deal with. My first play through I've just been doing the main missions and during the downtime between them, killing zombies and running around exploring. I've actually found and rescued quite a few survivors this way.

Also, remember that you can talk to some survivors in the safe house. I talked to the EMT and he asked me to go grab him some whiskey or vodka to help treat peoples wounds. Once I brought it back I got 10,000PP for completing it along with some Zombrex. I know at one point you can also talk to the golf club chick who asks you to go retrieve a club. Once you bring it back you get 60,000PP.

I've been trying to talk to survivors ever since I saved my first one, but the talk option never shows up. They just randomly spew out comments whenever I walk by. Sucks to know that feature has been restricted to specific survivors. ;\

I've found that the survivors only send you on fetch quests if they're in the cafeteria room. If you see one in there, go talk to them and they'll likely ask you to go get them something.

Survivors you have saved can give you quests? Well crap, I did not know that. Only special thing I've had from a survivor after saving them was getting some Zombrex.
The end of this game (the missions, not the actual story itself) is so fucking gay.
As is I'm not finding the story near as compelling as the first game. Right now I am waiting to meet up with the sexy asian reporter at bar of a casino at 11pm, and mostly there seems to be a real lack of events in the main story. Maybe the post 72 hour story shit will be more exciting.

It's pretty lame. Obvious plot twist and a really cheap boss fight.

That's the thing with this game. I don't mind a challenge, but nothing is challenging in this game. ALL the bosses are cheap and in order to beat them, you too need to play cheap. It sucks. Give me a challenge where I need to use my head and be clever, not some boss fight where I need to find some bugged spot that they cant hit me in yet I can still hit them. That stuff's not fun to me.

Got ending "A".

So fucking lame.
Chuck wound up dying
all because I forgot
to give TK the Zombrex I found
.
Has anybody else even gotten their Avatar codes from Amazon, yet?
IIRC Amazon said it might be 10 days before we get the code

I agree that the boss fights are pretty bad. Also would've liked to see the psychos be more pure evil than pitiable. I felt bad about killing more than a couple. I don't like feeling guilty when playing games. :D As for a boss fight near the end...
I would suggest bringing 2 or 3 sniper rifles and the rest of your slots for food when you fight Sullivan. Trying to climb up and melee him is suicidal. Failed twice without sniper rifles then got him the first try with them

Has anyone had any success playing online? I have tried 4 or 5 times and found nobody each time. I know people are still caught up in Reach but I figured at least a few would be trying out DR2's online.

Try having it for PC and finding a game online. I managed to play it once and win the tournament and got a pretty cool 70+ thousand dollars for like 10 minutes of work. Even the dude in last got like 30 though!

Can anyone give me some advice on what the best/easiest weapon to carry around is that gives good crowd control? I am looking for something quick to make and better than the nail bat. Also, are there any gun stashes around?

It seems like 90% of the combo weapons are completely impractical and good for little more than some laughs and a one time use. Also, would everyone agree that when there are very few good natural weapons?

The
Knife glove is pretty cool. Combie a bowie knife+boxing gloves. It's my melee weapon of choice.

My two favorite weapons for crowd control (and killing psychos) are the Wolverine Claws (Boxing Gloves + Bowie Knife) and the Lightsaber (Flashlight + gems). For the claws, there's a bowie knife on the roof of the newstand in Royal Flush plaza, and there's a sporting goods store right next to it. For the lightsaber, there's a Jewelry store in Royal Flush plaza that is regularly robbed by looters. Kill them, one usually has a flashlight, and then grab some gems from the ground.

Guns...I've yet to really use them in any capacity. There's too many zombies and most Psychos move way too fast for them to be worthwhile.

Gun Stash:
There's a gun shop on the second floor of the Palisades Mall. You can get a Sniper Rifle, Shotgun, Handgun and Grenades from there. It also has a SWAT outfit. Once you unlock the shortcut to Palisades from Royal Flush, it's a pretty quick run.

Combo Weapons:
The Defiler (sledgehammer+fire axe) gives pretty good crowd control and is relatively easy to make. There's a fire axe in the safe house and a sledgehammer just up from the maintenance room just outside the safe house. You do need to combo card though to execute the hold X attack which is the crowd control attack. Pretty sure it comes through leveling. The Laser Sword is good too and you can find the combo card inside the cinema. Gems are flashlights aren't TOO hard to come by.

I think the best natural weapon is the Broadsword. Always kills zombies in one hit and has a good sweeping attack on the 3rd hit of a combo. The machete's not bad either since it's quick and almost always hacks off a limb. :D
