Dead Rising General Game/Demo Discussion Thread #2

Dang this thing is buried. How the hell do you defeat the convicts? I started over, and can't get across to get the SMG before nightfall. Do I have to start again?

that's a weird thing about the game-- some people killed them, blew up the jeep, and the cons were gone for good. For other people (like me), they never went away, no matter what. Whenever I went out there, I just stuck close to the wall and could sneak by them.
so if the jeep wern't destroy they come back right?
I was saying that it seems random. Sometimes they come back, even when you destroy the jeep.
If you manage to kill them, they always seem to respawn somewhere around midnight.
That's what a walkthrough said, too.

I assume there is no other way to kill them? Like with the basic handgun or what have you.

I took the truck from the garage and rammed into them, I had one bar of health.. one ram killed the gunner AND the driver, all that was left was the passenger.. unfortunately, he lit me up like a christmas tree the second I hopped out of the truck to finish him off.
Just kill the gunner with the mini chains and the rest are easy...where do you get the maintance tunnel key?
I believe it's in the room in the middle of the tunnels.

That's how I did it too, minus the dying part.

I would recommend killing the psycho in the gun store ASAP. Once you have free access to sniper rifles and shotguns for free almost all the time, the convicts will be toast everytime you see them.

Get the shotgun (you can see that one of the survivors is holding one) right in the beginning scene (when the zombies break through and kill the survivors at the entrance). There is also a SMG in the initial plaza connected the security room/warehouse, just run up the stairs, jump on the blue awning and run to it.

Just found about that one. Right now I think I'm just going to do the opening rescue mission about ten times and get up to 15/50. Easy points right there.

Alright, so I think I may be kind of screwed in my game. I restarted it today and am making my way outside to go to the Food Court and help Brad, when I get the cutscene for the prisoners. Mind you, that this is at the very beginning and I haven't the greatest weapon selection (best weapons are the shotgun and the pistol) and I have to go this way to get to Brad.

What are my options? Is there another way without going through the courtyard to get to Brad?

You don't have to fight them when you go outside. After you watch the cutscene, just go back inside and back out again. Just stay as far away from them as possible and try not to get noticed. If it doesn't work, just try again.

Yeah, I tried that, and got inside with Sophia but only had 1 hit left and died. Attempt #2 coming up.

Big azz Bump.

Started this game again this weekend :)

I powered up to level 12, got to day 2, then started over. Did anyone else level up first, then play through?

had fun in the opening scene with more energy-- I killed about 300 zombies
Any tips on killing Adam the Clown? he kicked my ass today, mind you I'm only at Lvl 12.
get a katana from the awning under the restaurant where you meet the photographer guy. just drop out of the window on to the awning to the right of the case with all the orange juice in it and it'll be right there.

then get a pistol. there's a pack of zombie cops with guns just past the ride where you start the fight. you can get some from them.

arm the gun, run away, but make sure he's chasing you at a decent distance. he'll start blowing balloons. shoot the balloon while he's blowing it-- that'll stun him, arm the katana, and slash him as much as possible. it'll take less than 10 hits to kill him with it.

you can also get the criminal book from the bookstore with the japanese dudes to make the katana (and adam's chainsaws) last twice as long.

I think there are 2 other books besides the criminal one to make the mini chainsaw last EVEN longer. IMO it is the best weapon in the game.

It almost kills like cheating. I got through the whole game with just mini chainsaws. I make sure to kill the clown as early as possible whenever I ran through the game.

Three books.

Criminal Psychology (or something like that)
Construction
Entertainment.

2 of them are in the large bookstore in Paradize Plaza and the third is in Wonderland.
I should go back and play this... it's the only game I've played on the 360 that feels like it's next gen.
You own a 360 and you haven't played Gears of War? :p

I agree though that I think Dead Rising was the must fun single player experience I've had with any 360 game so far and I really wasn't expecting it.

everything about gears of war except for the graphics could be done on another system. you can't generate that many zombies with as good of AI on an older system. also, no system has the power to generate jessie's boobs.

I have gears, but I still say dead rising has the best damn animation I've seen anywhere... plus I can find alot more to like from dead rising than gears. ALOT.

Is there a level where the initial escort mission/restarting trick isn't worth doing over and over? I'm at Level 12 right now, would that be sufficient to get through the game first run. I screwed up halfway through my first run.

I'm fairly certain you're either exagerating, or you didn't even play Gears of War. I'm leaning more towards the later. Go back and actually play GoW for more than 5 seconds and then delete your absurd post.

...he was right however about Jessie's boobs.

I say he was right. It's basically formulas from Unreal Tournament, Kill.Switch, and other stuff. If they wanted this could have totally been done on a last gen system with lower end graphics. No contest.

Now tell me how a last gen system could do Dead Rising? never.

I can't say I disagree either. I mean in certain sections/areas where there are literally hundrers on zombies all moving independently and doing their own thing, its pretty damn impressive to see.

What about the gameplay demands a lot of power from the system?

The Bangs and Booms and Whapows... thats what...????

I feel like jumping back on and getting the 24 hour acheivements. I hear those are easy... go outside and have Frank stand on a roof... or stand high on something in the mall.

and the jelly running down those canisters in the raining level?

I want to get the snuff shot achievments this time around. (erotica points with zombie Jessie? which reminds me...I haven't found a single way to get an erotica shot with Jessie, but she's the obvious choice.)

and what happened to the rumor of a co-op mode expansion?

I'm going to play this for real for the first time over the next few days/weeks. I bought it when it came out and played for about an hour before getting sidetracked on some personal crap and I never went back to it for some reason.

Any tips or hints before I start? I remember the save system kind of sucking but that's about it.

Yes, save often. The save locations are pretty well spaced out and there is no autosave feature. I've made the mistake before. I played for about 3-4 hours and never saved, got killed and had to start all the way from the beginning.

I screwed up halfway through the second day so I have to start over myself. Are there any huge advantages to trying to save all the survivors first-time through? I'm at level 12 right now and I don't find myself being able to play through games multiple times, so would I be missing anything huge by just trying to complete the main cases?

nope. Save what you can for experience points though so you can level up. I think it would be damn near impossible to save them all on your first play through.

It not so much that it sucks-- it's just integrated in to the whole survival thing. just save before missions and after missions and you'll be fine.

Also, you might want to play through the first day a couple times before going through the whole game (you save your stats, which can be used when starting a new game.)

and do the first quest in Wonderland Plaza (with the out of control ride) asap--you get a shortcut through the mall during the course of it.

My only complaint is that the survivor AI does stupid shit often. Like run over and attack zombies that aren't in their way, getting themselves stuck in a crowd of zombies, or not going around walls and obstacles.
Any tips or hints before I start? I remember the save system kind of sucking but that's about it.
Outside of doing the Wonderland Plaza quest quickly, you can probably level up by going through the first 10 minutes of gameplay over and over. It's the first escort mission when you first go up to the roof through the vent system. You can skip the helicopter/camera intro, as well as other cutscenes, by pressing the start mission. Then when you bring back the old couple (nets you 10,000+ PP) you can save, quit, and start a new game. Takes about 10 minutes each run through to level yourself up.

I started this game the other day and fell in love with it. I'm grateful they let you level up and then start over and retain your stats, that makes things so much easier. I was lvl. 15 when I beat Adam, and I must say I'm enjoying the hell out of the mini chainsaw.

I have to remember to get those 3 books so I can use it throughout the rest of the game.

I just wish some of the survivors weren't so braindead.

I've started playing this a lot over the past week, after killing Adam and getting the mini chainsaw and the three books I'm enjoying the hell out of it. Although I probably rely on it a bit too much, I got kidnapped by those cult people the other day and lost everything, loosing the chainsaw sucked.

The psychopath battles are sweet, this game has really jumped up in my estimation.

Instead of dicking around, I'm actually going through and killing the psychos.

Man, the cult was insanely annoying. Helped me build up lots of PP quick though! Killed the cult leader, gun shop guy (he was easy), the commie hater in the hardware store, the fat cop.. I think that's it so far. I killed the clown months ago (still playing the same 72 hours).
