Dead Rising General Game/Demo Discussion Thread #2
I'm pretty sure you can just go around saving people.
ya, you won't be able to finish the story, but you can use the full 72 hours to just save people or do what ever the hell you want.

Aren't completing the story (case) missions mandatory, though? It's a game over whenever I miss one of those.

I don't even know why I'm bothering to save any civilians on my first run. I should wait until I get to a ridiculously high level.

It's not game over when you miss a case. You just can't get to the true ending. You can still get an ending if you make it the full 72 hours.

you have 72 hours in game time to do what ever you want, if you fail a main story mission then ya you can't beat the game, but it isn't game over. you can still do all the side missions and rescue people.

My first try just finished- saved 23 civilians and completed the storyline. Pain in the ass to save the survivors. What got me really pissed is...

Those SF guys got me right when there was only about an hour left till the heli came and they knocked me out trying to escape. Caused time to run out and I got ending D. GRRRR. Trying to do it all again now, hoping to get the best ending. BTW, if you kill Carlito during the bomb run, will he kill Brad still? Just wondering cause during that mission I just avoided him by jacking cars.

did anyone know there was an airduct in the restroom after you fight the clown?! i was reading about some scoop missions and they mentioned it, and here i've been escorting people across the freakin' park watching out for the convicts.

I loved this game, even if I did go crazy with dirty disc errors... especially after tough boss battles and before I could save.

What I really wanted out of this game was a casual mode... something where you could run around and cause havoc without a time limit.

Oh well, still a great game.

Agreed. With its great sandbox gameplay, I don't understand why they didn't. Something similar to a Crackdown or GTA/Saint's Row-esque, but where you could still get a limited amount of the achievements while maintaining aspects of the story. Maybe for Dead Rising 2, which I can't until it comes out. There are rumors that Capcom hasn't really started the programming for number 2 yet since their main development teams are busy with Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles, RE 5 (this one will be awesome), and Devil May Cry 4. They of course have some other games in the works like Puzzle Fighter from their Xbox Live division, but who knows. None of my sources have said whether this is true or not. Regardless, I can't wait for number 2.

I hope the story for number 2 is where the government has infected a small town with the virus/bugs to see if there is anyway to recoup the losses from the project and to see if it can be used as sort of biological weapon, etc. It would be really cool to see a Frank that is suddenly obsessed with outing the government conspiracies - ala an X-Files type Mulder character.

Just curious. I finally had some time (the summer) and came back to finish up my save file. I just have to finish the facts, but I'm currently at 13. Gonna try and get 10,000 kill achievement, the bowling ball one, finish 72 hour mode, and one or two others for the heck of it. In a game like this the achievements really add an extra bonus element and an extra sense of accomplishment IMO. They don't feel tired and meaningless like some others I've tried.

Ditto that, my brother.

I need one achievement, the otis one. Needles to say I don't plan on playing again just to get that achievement... guy is f'ing annoying. Not only that, but the dpad on the xbox 360 is ass. I press to answer and sometimes it cuts him off.

Just finished 72 hur/3 day survivor mode/the game and I must admit that it was great. Hopefully number two will have better A.I. and much easier aiming, but overall the game was very satisfying. I'm going to try overtime mode and maybe try for one or two of the others.

By the way, how many save files can you have? I'd like to do another 72 hour mode without doing all of the cases and just trying to get the zombie genocider achievement. Also, will it (i.e. the mega man blaster) count toward the current overtime game I'm playing?

Just one save, but your skills and stats carry over into whatever game you create.

Just picked it up finally last night for $27 at a local Meijer. Now I can go back to getting the last achievements and not worry about renting it. ;)

I just started playing the other day and I must say I suck pretty bad.

Last night I fought the
Crazy clown guy with chainsaws. He murdered me quickly because I tried using the baseball bat and it broke in 1 hit both times (i had 2 of them). I went back today with 3 handguns and got him down to like 2 more hits when I died. I guess you can only shoot him when hes blowing up the balls but I don't know. I tried drinking a coffee creamer at the last minute but he hacked me up

A minute ago I went and did the mission where
you go and fight to rescue the professor. I guess I ran out of time or something because he died and I got a game over

All in all its a fun game so far, I'm just pretty bad at it.

What I meant was that I want to do Overtime mode later, but go through the maintenence tunnels and get the zombie genocider on an open save/game file. Can that be done and come back to Overtime mode?

Well, I picked it up again at TRU for $25 w/ the 20% off coupon. Who knows when I'm gonna get around to playing it though. Having 44 360 games has one drawback. Not enough time for them all.

Don't worry, I had a really difficult time my first time with the clown. Took me like 5+ tries. 2nd playthrough I killed him and so many other bosses really easy, you just got to know where the good weps are at. I recommend getting

1. Chainsaws from the garden store that plaza which is like a walkway outside, forget the name of it.

2. Knives from those yellow jacket zombies.

3. Hunting Shack in Northern Plaza. Shotgun FTW.

about those raincoat guys...

i got kidnapped so am i suppose to just escape or do i get anything for fighting them in that video room?

This game really should be top priority :)

If you get kidnapped, the only thing there a sword and a bunch of crazy people to kill and thats about it

Sadly all you can do is get a better TV. S-Video helps a little, but the game was made for HDTVs only and capcom doesn't care.
omg will i still be able to understand the story without reading the text
Nope.

I couldn't play Dead Rising on my old TV. I'm better equipped now, as soon as I finish F.E.A.R. it's once again zombie mayhem time.

But fuck rescuing those people, they're beyond stupid. I had a bunch of them holed up but the zombies outsmarted them and devoured them.
omg will i still be able to understand the story without reading the text
just kill zombies, that is the story.

I feel your pain. I’m waiting for my brother to ask me to house sit for him again so I can knock out some of the achievements for this game.

Tape a magnifying glass to your head.. and keep that eye closed until text pops up on the screen.

Or like Cochese said, when you become a mod, you get a marketplace code for bigger text in DR.

i just squint a little to read the text on my tv, but it's really not that important once you get the whole scoop concept down.
i just squint a little to read the text on my tv, but it's really not that important once you get the whole scoop concept down.
I agree. While it's annoying, the text issue doesn't ruin the plot or anything like that.
i just squint a little to read the text on my tv, but it's really not that important once you get the whole scoop concept down.
what scoop thing are you talking about.
what scoop thing are you talking about.
The main storyline and the missions that accompany it. They're referred to as "cases" if I'm remembering correctly.

scoops are the optional side missions, the janitor will call you on the walky talky and he mention a location where he spots someone. if you can't read the text just answer his calls anyways and let him finish telling you the mission. when you goto your watch you'll now have additional missions. if you goto your mall map the new question marks will be on the map and they are were the side mission happens. it's pretty much rescuing people and escorting them back to the security room.

cases are the required missions for the main story line, you'll get them after completing the last one and it's usually the colored meter on top of the rest of them. i'm guessing you understand the whole concept of having to arrive at specific times and the bar runs down to when you can no longer do a mission.

i saved in a restroom 1 minute before the next case was about to start and now everytime i load the file i have only like 5 seconds to get to the secruity room which is impossible. is there a way i can delete the last save and start at the one before it or something?

That's why a lot of people didn't like the save feature of Dead Rising.

Because you can't. (I don't think.)

You may have to start off with your higher abilities at the beginning.

no some please say this isnt true!
no some please say this isnt true!
It's true. You just have to get the hang of checking your watch... a lot. You will have to start over to make your cases. BUT technically you don't have to start over. There are 5 different endings. Only one requires you to make it through every case. If this is your first time through, making every case would be tough anyway.

You can also save a second game on a memory card for a grand total of two save spots.
