Dead Space PS3 Amazon $36.99 (in stock)
Drop the price to $20 and I'm there.
Agreed. This game looked somewhat fun but not so much so that I'm willing to buy it at above the "try me" price. It'll get there eventually.

I paid $60 for this game and it was worth it, IMO. The game is worth playing through 2-3 times. The demo doesn't do the game any justice.

Picked this up during the Amazon BF sale for $30 and felt ripped off after playing it fully. Don't pay more than the price of a rental if you feel the need to own this lackluster title.

Wasn't it $20 at Target for BF? I'm pretty sure that's what I paid for it. In any case, I enjoyed it much more than you did.

Edit: Nope, you were right, it was $30. Still well worth it, IMO.

I wholeheartedly disagree -- I snagged a PS3 copy for $30 at Target's Black Friday sale and felt it was worth all that and more. I also agree that the game lends itself to being played through more than once. I'd say it's far less of a "horror" title on subsequent go-rounds, but no less fun, either.

I'm a sci-fi horror fan, so this was definitely a surprise hit with me. I highly recommend it for anyone on the fence.

EDIT: Ah...so it's now $3 off of the new MSRP of $39.99. The game's worth it, but those ultra budget conscious CAGs could likely wait for a deeper discount down the road.

I was wondering if this is even a deal, haha i mean 3$ off is not a lot you know. Im talking like 7+ dollars off to be considered a deal.

I almost picked this game up but then I looked at the normal price.... It's only a $3 savings...

I am waiting for $30 or under. I was going to pick it up on Black Friday but had way too many other things to buy.

I don't see how anyone can dislike this game. I got it the day it came out for $60 and loved every minute of it. I beat it 3 times over.

thanks for all the tips CAGs, i have decided to put the game on my wait list and hope for price drop. thanks for all the helpful info!
thought i'd stop in and say that I paid the full 60 and it was worth every penny.

the demo doesnt do the game justice.
I am well aware of the demo not doing the game justice, but my fun funds for the next two months are tied up as follows:

Terminator 2: Skynet Edition Blu-Ray
Punch-Out!!
Paul Blart: Mall Cop*
Three Stooges Collection: Vol. 6
Ghostbusters Blu-Ray

*Get Dead Space on PS3 or 360 to $20 in the next month or so and I'll sacrifice my Paul Blart DVD for it. Otherwise, I have to wait.

And, yes, I love that movie (Paul Blart). Second only to Watchmen in terms of theatrical viewings (6 for Watchmen, 4 for Blart) and fanatical raving.

It's a great game, but it's pretty short, and the last boss fight is far too easy/generic. Other than that I stayed glued to it from start till finish, which is sorta rare for me in horror games. I bought this for $30 back during black friday and it was definitely worth that price.
There is a demo for it... I was meh on the demo. Felt like a RE4 shooter w/ whacky guns
The demo is fucking terrible. I mean, it essentially IS an RE4-style game with slightly wackier weaponry, but the demo really doesn't capture the proper feel of the game at all, in my opinion.

Ever heard of differentiating between your opinion and fact? You might not like this game, but a lackluster title? 88 Metacritic on the PS3 and 89 for the 360.

The last boss was my favorite personally. I don't really enjoy getting my ass kicked a hundred times, I don't call that a good boss fight. Felt the last one was just right. And better than a lot of bosses in recent games IMO. (hell, its one of the few boss fights I can actually remember from recent games)

OH THE IRONY!

Ever heard the one about the fool and his money?

Grabbed it on Black Friday for $30 and its a really fun game. Well worth that. Now that DLC on the other hand......Rip off.

First off all, Dead Space is one of the best games available on the PS3. I played this game 3 times through within 2 weeks. It is the best survival horror game I've played in years. I haven't been this scared by a game since the first RE. The demo does not do it justice AT ALL because it does not capture the "feel" of the game.

Second, those scores are a statistical average of people's opinions on what the score of the game is.

I will put it this way, though: If you love survival horrors like the first to RE games, this game is Gold if not Platinum. This game is like playing the movie Alien/Aliens with all the creepy ambiance as if you were living it IRL. But if you just want a "shooter" then you may just find this "lackluster".

Please don't insult RE by comparing the two.

RE does a much better job of balancing guns, boss strategies, situational thinking, etc. Dead Space can be played fully without using anything but your starter gun on hard mode with ease and ammo never runs dry (where's the suspense in that?). The game felt more like a grind, as if enemies were just put in the way to slow me down from discovering how terrible the rest of the game would be.

Not to mention most of the storyline is told through notes lying around, which breaks up gameplay every 10 feet (FEAR 2 is guilty of this as well, for shame). Was the ending even supposed to be a twist? How boring.

I honestly don't see what reviewers saw in it.

The notes/videos don't take you away from the game at all.

Reviewers saw the best survival horror game for next gen systems. Are you blind?

Well, given what was available in the genre at the time, that's really not saying much.

RE does 90% of this as well..
Hell, all of RE5 is told through notes.

RE5 isn't scary. Dead Space is.
RE5 is just an action game, they aren't even in the same category.
Well, let's just say, I won't buy the next RE, but I will buy the next Dead Space.

What I would consider RE to be is suspenseful, since every shot counts and some enemies WILL one-shot you if you let them get too close. Running low on ammo adds to this and I often found myself running dry during my first play-through of RE games. I never felt threatened by the enemies in DS, so when they pop out for their cheap scare -- they just got owned.

This is on a lot of top 10 lists...while I don't think its a horror game, it still is a darn good game, whatever it is, horror, space shooter, etc.

I suppose what it is lacking is an on-line component which would have made the $60 into price more in line with some other FPS released at that price.

Wow, I'm stunned at all the negativity toward Dead Space in this thread. I normally can't handle horror games but this one was fantastic and worth having my nerves frayed (in a good way) throughout.

Well worth $60, a no brainer at $40. Plus you get bonus points for supporting an incredibly well done original IP by a company trying to ween itself off of movie licenses and sequels.

And yes, the demo was completely terrible and not representative of what the tone of the game is really like.

Well I certainly have to disagree there. I found every fight in Dead Space more rewarding. Just because of the better combat system. I prefer being able to move when I shoot, why would anyone in their right mind stand there in place when a monster/zombie is coming towards you?

Also the dismemberment adds more enjoyment to the kills. RE5 is boring. "Oh cool, another zombie for me to stand in place and shoot in the head, then slowly turn, run away, turn around again, stand in place again, and shoot again." it had a sort of rinse, repeat cycle that gets extremely intolerable. Dead Space is constant action, in a much scarier environment. The music goes perfect, the cutscenes/audio/video takes nothing away from the story like those stupid notes do in RE5.

Though both games have equally stupid item shops. (A vending machine that sells flamethrowers, chainsaws, etc lol) still, the enjoyment of actually purchasing new suits and putting them on and watching your character exit with the new suit is cool.

My only real complaints for Dead Space are that yes, it did sort of seem to drag itself a bit towards the end, but the actual awesome end boss and great end cutscene I thought saved what was beginning to get boring. And the only other complaint is the inventory system, and the power nodes for upgrading guns could've been better.

RE4 and RE5 are insulting to RE and RE2 as they are not at all scary. DS actually is scary. Yes it is subjective but the fact that RE1 and 2 scared me but the rest hasn't is saying something.

And ammo never runs dry in RE? Tell that to my first playthrough of RE4 - see screenshot below. I've been playing the RE series since the beginning so conserving ammo is something I excel at so actually I finish all those games with tons of ammo left. Not to say that I didnt have a ton of ammo by the end of DS either but that's not a fair argument.

Here you go:

I don't think the price will drop below $20 for this game.

This is a surprisingly fun game. I actually don't beat that many games any more, but played this one all the way through.

Personally, I'd wait till it's $30.

Same here -- I rarely finish games, but I stuck with this one.

1) You didn't need to take a screenshot; I really don't care lol.
2) It's 2009, get a flat-screen TV. :p
