Well it averages out to about $52/year, which is 13% off, so that's technically a deal, although any good shopper can usually find Live for $40 or less per year.

However, its a pretty good deal for someone who just wants to check out LIVE for 3 months.

so yes, 12.99 is a deal, but only if you're not planning on buying more
 
It is still a deal. Maybe not a good deal, but one nonetheless. Sure, these are 50% off, but if you look at the big picture and say you want to buy 4 of them, it's $52 for a year. Still $8 less than msrp, but if you're looking to buy in bulk, you're better off waiting. Or you can go to Target and get a year for $48 since they're on sale 20% off this week before the red card discount.

If you have an on-going subscription on XBL itself, you may be able to get a better deal w/o ever buying game cards. I was paying that ridiculous 7/month for a couple months and called them to cancel; they ended up offering me a yearly subscription @ 36/year. YMMV
