Sure, I might agree that the majority of
current film and music releases, thanks to digital distribution, will combat scarcity or lack of access. However, the majority of "content" that exists in an older format is left behind as technology evolves. Maybe the cruft can be left to die, but how many films will never be released digitally? More than you know.
There is a company called Twilight Time which release 3,000 limited edition copies of films on blu-ray that the rights-holder is unwilling to release. These releases are seen as "risky", and Twilight Time has said that potential consumers should understand that while they have a 3-year exclusive agreement on these titles, that the consumer should not
expect these titles to be released anywhere else or, at best, any time soon. They put out Philidelphia and As Good As It Gets, both Oscar-winning movies. Hollywood considers these bottom of the barrel? I do not think digital solves all our problems. The issues are too complex.
