Sorry if this is not what you were after. I honestly have not used an HDMI splitter before.
If you are wanting it for gaming recording I gave heard good things about Elgato, but it's not that cheap. Again sorry if my link is not what you were after.
This is the one I've been using (except mine is only has 3 ports, not 5). I couldn't be happier. It auto detects what port is getting the signal and immediately switches to that channel. My only complaint is when my PS3 turns on for it's daily upload to the cloud or whatever, the splitter gives that priority and I have to manually switch back over to whatever port I was using before. Not a big deal, just don't be an idiot like me and have your PS3 update when you usually play games. Overall, I'd give it a 9/10. And for only $10, you can't beat it.
