For reasons beyond my control, I need a laptop within the next 2 days, so I'll need to get it from a B&M store...Best Buy, Circuit City, CompUSA, and Walmart () seem the primary options around these parts.
I'm looking for a basic laptop, something for under $600.
I see things like this Toshiba - http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Tosh...97654/catOid/-12963/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do - for $400 after MIR...
Or this Gateway - http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Gate...91739/catOid/-12963/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do - for $520...
Know of any good deals on a *decent* laptop?
Specs on all of these budget laptops seem to be the same - 80-160gb HD, 1 GB of RAM, cheap DVD burner, 15.4" screen, etc. - but how are these brands as far as build quality is concerned (compared to, say, a cheap Dell)?
Didn't Gateway make the old eMachines laptops? I have an eMachines I got about 3 years ago at Best Buy, good rig IMO. So are Gateway laptops maybe comparable to the eMachines I'm typing on now, as far as quality is concerned?
How about Toshiba? Compaq?
Thanks a lot for any help.
