Just like everything else I purchase, my need for as new desktop is gaming motivated.

I basically need a desktop that will run Starcraft 2 and handle some AVCHD/H.264 video editing with Sony Vegas Pro 9.0e. I realize that you have to pay for power but I really need to keep this as inexpensive as possible to get approval from the wife. I do not know my budget yet, just trying to get some prices.

Since I only have a laptops right now I will need a monitor as well. I am somewhat PC literate so I can handle bare bones kits and I am not opposed to refurbs. Thanks CAG.

Do you have a Fry's Electronics close to you? They have great prices on motherboard + CPU combos, so you could come up with a good gaming system for maybe $500-$600.
 
No Frys around here. Best Buy is the only electronics store around here now that Circuit City is closed. I checked NewEgg for some prices and I think the $500-$600 range is not bad for the core system. Thanks.
