Do Gamecube controllers work for VC Games?

I apologize if this is common knowledge in these parts...But want to kill two birds with one stone and get a GC controller to play the gamecube games and hopefully all the vc games...Is this possible?

Compatiblity with different controllers, per Wikipedia's Wii Virtual Console page:


Edit: sorry, HTML was messed up, but yes, it will work with all Nintendo console games, and will work with SOME Turbografx and Genesis games.

Yes, though the GC's button layout may not be ideal for SNES / Genesis games.

Everything I have seen says the GC controllers will work with all VC games.

I don't see why there would ever be a game the GCN controller wouldn't work with. It's not missing anything that is on the Classic Controller is it?
