im talkin about the movies... since u know games are on blu-rays too.
i finally bought 2 blu-rays! pirates 1 and 2.(havent seem em, been livin under a rock):D

why or why not?

I am more apt to purchase movies on Blu-ray than on DVD when given the choice between the same title. There's just something about watching a movie in 1080p that is something special.

Nope. The reason is that I only have the one movie that came with my PS3 near launch, which isn't for me. I considered 300, but didn't get it. I want Advent Children on blu-ray, but it keeps getting pushed back.

The problem is that I'm not really a movie watcher. I strictly stick to gaming (although I watch some anime). I probably couldn't name ONE movie that has been in the movie theaters the last few months.

I do plan to support blu-ray more in my future over DVD, because of better quality and I want Sony to win the format war.
I haven't because they are expensive
At Target, a regular priced new release on DVD is $19.99. Usually new releases on Blu-ray are $24.99. Not to mention all the Buy one get one sales lately.

I use it quite regularly for this. 120" 1080p projection ftw.

Just picked up 14 blu-ray's yesterday as a matter of fact.

Who on Cheap Ass Gamer buys DVDs for $19.99? Most of my DVDs cost $5-$8 so it's not a fair comparison.

I do. And I love it. I've only had my PS3 for 3 months and I have about 20 Blu-Ray movies already. I love Hi Def video! :hot:

And I've never paid more than $15 a movie. Just gotta be patient enough to wait for the deals.

Yes, I do. Even my wife is asking for Blue-Ray chick flicks. So far I have 300, Premonition and Cars on BR. I just got the Planet Earth complete collection on BR for $41 on eBay. Me and the Mrs. are looking forward to that. Oh, and if any other movie from out 300+ collection wants to be seen, guess where it plays through. I love that HDMI connection!

Nope.

All I have for it is Talladega Nights that came with it. I'm always tempted to buy a blu-ray, but eh...I don't buy movies very often unless they're really cheap.

oh yeah, I can't watch DVDs anymore. Unless its something that I know isn't coming out anytime ever on blu ray. If you don't use the ps3 for its blu ray feature.. then you're not really getting your money's worth out of the system.
007 Casino Royale... excellent movie, excellent HD movie.

Since there are no games for the PS3 (waiting for Ratchet and Clank and Drake's Fortune) its a great Blu-ray player. The quality on an HDTV is amazing. I rent my Blu-rays from Blockbuster. I only own 300 on Blu-ray. The next movie I want is Casino Royale.

don't own any Blu-Rays, but between Netflix and the local video store (which seems to have ALL of them) I can rent any one that I want. finally got around to renting the first disc of Planet Earth and it's sooooo nice and relaxing to watch at the end of a day.

lol i kinda forgot my ps3 is a blu-ray player, cause i use it to play games all the time, but ill finally take advantage and experience all this talk... too bad i cant do 1080p, but 720p is good enough cause my tv isnt all that big anyways.
now i just gotta wait for amazon to ship em... hopefully ill get em by sat.
im glad theres a lot of blu-ray supporters though, i want it to win it HD-DVD so theres none of that exclusive garbage. lol i bought transformers on DVD.

When I had my PS3, I didn't buy one game but I rented Blu-Rays all the time.

Ran out of movies to watch, and sold the PS3.

I'm about to buy another PS3 and it's pretty much going to be a Blu-Ray player since the first game I want (MGS4) is so far away.

I don't use it for bluray. I still buy normal dvds. I use the HD dvd player on the 360 but only have King Kong, Animal House and Transformers. So the only ones showing of the HD are king kong and transformers. King kong to me looks like crap. On HD you can tell it is CG on dvd you really cant. Transformers looks really good though. I plan to get bluray and check it out.

I don't really use it that much at all. I don't have an HDTV so I don't really care about 1080p since my TV doesn't do it. After Black Friday, I should have a decent 1080p set. I bought 300 on BD, but that was because I had money to burn and it was only $5 more than the DVD.

Of course - I own 17 br movies right now, with about 5 more on the way from the Frys sale. And I rent them all the time through Netflix.

I don't like buying movies on dvd at all anymore.

I probably use my PS3 as a dvd player more than i use it as a console. Even with regular dvds, the upscaling is really good. Only thing that sucks is the thing cant play divx.
Hell, a good portion of the reason I bought mine was for use as a blu ray player.
+1

They look and sound great on my projector (96"). Heck, the first one I watched was Casino Royale on my 40" LCD and I was still blown back by how crisp the picture was. The DVD upconversion does a decent job as well. I'm not a movie snob so I'll enjoy a good movie regardless. If the transfer is done well, blu-ray is really worth it. Besides it costs the same to rent them and I was never much of a movie buyer anyway (BB online FTW).

yeah it rules as a player in general, gotta love that you dont have to point the controller at the system for it to work....
oh yeah and the picture is gorgeous too.......

Same here... Im up to about 30 BR's and about 45 HD-dvd's

while only owning about 14 PS3 games

Of course I have a TV that takes advantage of 1080p blu-ray technology

I use mine as a BluRay player all the time (for rentals though), it is also an excellent upscaling DVD player (much better than my current standalone player).

I picked up 300 on Bluray. I noticed the slightly improved video. Other than that, it doesn't change anything for me.

I think one of the biggest problems for Bluray/HDDVD is that DVD already exists and is pretty good. It's not like we're going from VHS -> LD or DVD where you went from noisy/skewed pictures and rewinding to a clear picture and no rewinding (meaning, there were several huge improvments to going from VHS->LD/DVD). With DVD->HDDVD/Bluray you're getting a slightly improved picture (for most people - makes more of a difference on a huge screen).

I still buy my movies on DVD or iTunes and watch them via AppleTV. I'm pretty happy with that.

Most DVDs are on sale in the $16-18 range release week, while Blu Ray and HD DVD are $24-30.

The bigger problem though is most any DVD (box sets, SEs etc. aside) can be found for $5-10 with six months to a year of release. It will be a while before the HD formats see those kind of rapid price drops.

Not really... I'm waiting until Novemeber with the deepdiscount sale hits again. Then I'll stock up on some.

I do however, convert a lot of DVD's and put stuff on my PS3's HD to watch. I've watched a ton of movies that way.

I have my PS3 since January and it has almost mainly been used as a Blu-Ray player. But there a few games coming out that I will actually pick up for PS3 in the next month or so.

I've been slowly building up by Blu-Ray collection -- just bought the original Dawn of the Dead the other day for $22. (Still haven't watched any of the free movies I got, though.)

I'm not using the PS3 for regular DVDs, though -- I didn't like to hear the fan kick in (no matter how quiet it is) when I was watching a movie, and I found that the hardware upscaling on my Sony DVD player was better than the software upscaling that the PS3 offers.

Is anyone else holding onto their regular DVD player, too?
