Anyone going to pick it up or give it a try? I Saw it in this Sunday's Best Buy ad, so I assume it will come out this Tues. or Weds. (around June 4) in stores.

I am skeptical about picking it up, but for $30, how bad can it really be for on the fly wiFi internet?

Description:
Get access to the Internet from the palm of your hand when you've got the power of the Nintendo DS Browser. Use your broadband Internet connection and a wireless LAN access point to transform your DS into a Web browser anywhere in your home. You can also connect using the Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector (not included).

If you are on the go, you'll be able to connect to the Internet wherever there is a hotspot access point. In this manner, you'll enjoy quick and easy browsing when you are out and about. The Browser can be easily operated by using the stylus to tap the lower screen of the DS as well as by tapping the icons on the toolbar.

I heard the US version has Java/Flash, does that mean I can watch porn Youtube videos on my DS? I've heard conflicting reports everywhere.

I plan on picking it up so i can use it on trips this summer to keep up on email, hopefully inputing text is faster than with the Wii.

I also heard that you can only buy the DS Phat version through Nintendo. Can anyone confirm?

From what I understand, this is the same browser that Europe got roughly a year earlier. It just NOA has been slower than hell in releasing it. There is no Java support, I remember that much. Even despite the contradiction on Opera's site and Nintendo's site, there is no Java.

If you have nothing better to spend your money with, it is not a bad thing to pick up. I mean, it has got to be better than the PSP browser, right?

Huh? How can Nintendo and Opera be advertising it if there's no Java support?

I'd love to get it but I have the phat DS and I really don't feel like paying for shipping. That whole "don't confuse the consumer" thought process was a load, if the consumer can't read the box and doesn't have a clue what model their DS is why did you release a different rumble dealy for both DS types? Ooops.

I'd love to carry it around when I go city hopping later this summer, but I'll already be carrying my Nuvi 350 and possibly a Treo 680. Not sure how much money I want to be carrying around in silicon.

To be fair, NoA hasn't released the DS Lite rumble pak. I know because I had to pay $25 for one imported.

I don't know the details yet, but I spoke with an NoA rep today who said they were going to be offering some kind of swap program for people who purchase the Lite version and need the original style.

Ah, my mistake. I could've sworn they started issuing them as standard in a game aside from Prime Pinball.

Saw it in the Best Buy ad as well, and I definitely want to grab this. It'll be useful if only just to check e-mail and news.

I heard there was no Flash/Java support at all. There was a story recently saying that there is, and then that got debunked and they retracted the story. Dunno. Don't need Flash/Java anyway me thinks.

Flash and Java is the main reason I wanted this, but hearing that there is a chance neither won't be there I might have to pass.

A little off topic, does anyone know if there is a cheap way of getting portable Internet besides this?

I have been considering a DSLite, but I really just want is to play online games like Yahoo blackjack, watch youtube videos or check CAG, while family uses the computer.

I'm just wondering, is there any use for this if I already have my own laptop? I generally don't like to bring my laptop to public places (unless its to work) so I want to buy the Web Browser for the sake of surfing the internet while keeping my laptop safe at home.
Are there any cool things that we can do with this? I mean, if it can play virtualnes.com games, then I'm gonna be extremely happy. Any IMing capablilities? or is this just for novelty?

Ok...i just bought it and all i can say is.....don't waste your money. It will bring back memories of 56k dial up and reading it is very difficult.

Thanks. I was pretty much leaning towards not getting it anyway. I can live without Flash, but not Java. No Java=no sale for me.

This review says it all. Thank you.

That 'Josh' DS video had so many cuts and edits, now I know why. The wait continues.....
Hmm...I'm still debating if this will be worth it to pick up a DSLite or pick up a PSP for the web browser?
Have you decided? I chose the latter a few weeks back for the bonus handheld that comes with the browser.

I really did want the DS browser early on, but the form factor with dragging and reading mini sections ultimately saddened me and ruled it out.

I haven't decided yet, but had been leaning towards the DSLite since it was cheaper. Here's what I'm considering buying in-store:
New: DSLite $130 + Browser $35 =$165
New: PSP core $170 +2GB Sandisk Memory Stick Duo$30 = $200

Picked up the browser yesterday. No Flash / no Java support really wasn't a big deal for me, but everything is horrendously slow. 56k dial up would probably be an improvement. Even if the browser supported Flash, there is no way it could handle YouTube. Loading CAG's simple homepage brings the browser to its knees. If that's not bad enough, it doesn't appear to save cookies any longer than your current session; once the DS is powered off, all is lost and you have to re-log into every site on your next visit. It is a major disappointment.

Ugh.

Why even bother bringing the goddamn thing here if it's going to be that shitty? I don't know why I got my hopes up that they'd improve it.

Thanks for the feedback. Guess I'll pass on it.

I have been testing the DS wifi with hotspots around where I live (stores, malls etc) for a while now and for about 95% of those hotspots the DS WON'T EVEN CONNECT to them, I have no idea whats wrong but they should have made the system more compatible to begin with since I think there is a whole one hotspot here that the DS will actually connect to. I have my own wireless at home so this is a non-issue for me.

So buying the browser for me would be pretty useless since, well I have a computer at home and since it won't even connect to the majority of wireless hotspots (I don't need to connect to the internet THAT badly anyways!), that makes it a pretty pointless purchase. I think I will wait till this hits 5-10$ then buy it as part of my collection only.

The DS browser is aimed at casual internet users who want to check e-mail and update blogs "on the go" without needing a laptop - users who haven't invested in fancy hardware that already does this. It's really slow. If you disable images and concentrate on text-webbing, it's pretty usable, considering it's the DS. The handwriting recognition feature is pretty cool, too.

Many internet hotspots are simply not compatible with the DS for ANYTHING. But if you can play wireless games over a particular hotspot, you should also be able to web browse.

No Java or Flash. Curious gamers and non-technology people only... everyone else should avoid.

it DOES support flash, and I will probably get it because I have wireless internet in my house, and I'd love to be able to sit in like my living room/bed/wherever and be able to browse the web without having to get up to go sit at my desktop computer.

Nintendo's web site may say this browser supports Flash, but I have yet to find a single site with Flash that works with the DS Browser. Even the flash content on Nintendo's own site will not load.

Edit: There was a bullet on Nintendo's DS Browser webpage that stated the DS Browser supported Flash and JavaScript. That bullet has been removed. Called Nintendo's customer service number, they also stated the DS Browser DOES NOT support Flash.

Anybody wants the browser?
I'll willing to get rid of it for $25 including shipping. PM me if interested.

Anyone try to order the browser for the original style DS off of nintendo.com? I was just curious if they gave you the case for it, or if the browser just ships loose, since the picture shows no special case for the older style DS.
Does the thing support WPA?
Pretty sure no because Nintendo WiFi itself only supports WEP. I might be wrong.

Also, it doesn't support Flash. Read any review, any forum about it, everyone says it doesn't.
Does the DS Web Browser work for the original DS? or the DS Lite only?
There's 2 versions. The only way to get the original DS version is to buy it online. They have the DS lite version in stores (and likely online as well).

Has anyone been able to determine the PROS/CONS between the DS browser and the PSP browser?

I don't own either so I can't really say except what I've seen so far the DS browser along with the DSLite is a little cheaper than a PSP with a decent sized memory stick. The DS doesn't support flash and java.

Well, I would think the stylus would make it easier to use on the DS but PSP has better hardware so I'd think pages would load faster on it.

My guess - PSP faster, DS easier

i heard it didnt suport flash so there is no way i would buy it,.

now if i could play

Pogo games on it then i would of got it in a second,

I think this is even worse then the Saturn weblink and that was awful lOL

I know that it is being sold online in the Nintendo store (i am talking about the ds web browser for the original ds) but does the nintendo store accept money orders?

You know this because you read it somewhere or because you see it for sale on the nintendo site? I can't find it anywhere, no shops, no online. I dont think they bothered making it for the US.

UPDATE: I just called Nintendo at 800-255-3700 and if you choose spare parts, you can order it, they have a few left. $29.99 + $5 shipping.

Just an update - I've used this little browser more often than I planned, mostly to read online news and forums "on the go" (not so much to write e-mail or look at images)... it is terribly slow, but with the stylus and SSR mode, reading news stories is a breeze once the page loads (especially with images off). You just drag the stylus to scroll down the text.

The main appeal is its small size. It's great being able to point and click around text-heavy web sites from a coffee shop, for those times you want to read CAG and/or play Planet Puzzle League, and you don't want to lug around a laptop!

Still not for everyone, though.

Reading forums and email are what is getting me to consider buying a DSlite along with the browser. I don't have a laptop so the loss of watching videos and flash games, may not be a big loss for me since I had dial-up only a few years ago!

I just got one off switchplanet. dude was selling them for 30 pts. should of grabbed both but my other pts were tied up with pokemon pearl (sob has had my pts tied up since May 10 they keep saying give me another week and i ship)

They say they are brand new never opened. Dont know to pop it open and use it or just dump it on GOozex for a quick 700 pts Or ebay
