EVO 2009: Fighting Game Championships - July 17 - 19, Las Vegas, NV (At the Rio!)
They get rid of Super Smash Bros?

:/

Edit**

Wow Evo wanted items? wtf...aren't they a competitive fighting tournament organizer? What's competitive about items that give instant wins? BOOOOO

Tekken also got dropped :/
Tekken got dropped because no one wants to play DR when 6:BR is out.

Evo wanted items in Brawl because Brawl is boring as hell and items actually add some excitement. Melee 4 life.

Hey guys,

Advice from a Vegas CAG'er - dress for the weather. You'll be coming into 110+ degree temperatures. Water is your friend!

I remember. I went there last year in August. I foolishly brought a hoodie, because I mistook Vegas for Reno. Not this year!

I KNEW THAT GROOVE WAS IN YOUR HEART

Now we gotta convince TMK to go!

It'd make for an awesome documentary.
We'd be like "c'mon, TMK, let's hit the bars," an' he'd be all like "no guys, I gotta play Ar Tonelico and write blog entries about girls I stalk."

To be fair, my friends tried to convince me to do some gambling, but I didn't want to. I had no money to gamble with, but still.

If we got a room with no internet connection, how would TMK react?

I'll definately be going now, even if I have to sell my body.

I'll probably just use my tax rebate or something though.

Will probably be bunking with a bunch of Seattle dudes, but we'll see. It's the last year for marvel most likely, so we want to give it a big hurrah.

yeah it will be hot as hell but bring like a light sweater if you're like me and like to gamble because they got the ac on blast in the poker room. :p

also the pool at the rio is full of hot chicks drunk off mojitos so bring some shorts to relax. its hot outside but they have these mist sprayers all over the place to keep it cool.

cag tip #1, if you wanna get simple drinks like beers or bottled waters just chill at a slot machine and wait for a waitress to come by because drinks are free for players, just hook up a dollar tip. better than spending $3 on a bottle of water. same with cigs if you smoke haha, eff a $7 pack of smokes!

cag tip #2 i think there is a starbucks by the elevator to the tower by the casino where you can get free wifi access but i'm not sure if that still works. most casinos have a like a daily internet rate of something like $10 a day but who the hell stays in there room all day during evo haha. if you have a diamond card or know some high roller that can get you in you can get access to the diamond lounge where they have free drinks/snacks and computers to mess around with.

as far as food there is nothing really cheap at the rio except for by the sportsbook where they have like burgers/asian food but even then a meal will still be like $12 or something. kind of the only thing that sucks about the rio if you are trying to eat on the cheap. helps if you gamble and have a players card to rack up some comps but i don't think cag is the right place to be talking about gambling haha.

There was a (relatively) cheap sammich shop around the hotel where I stayed last time, but I can't remember it for the life of me. I know that there's fast food places around the venue, in case you don't mind that kind of thing. Not walking-distance, but they're around there.

Still, you can't beat the hotel buffet.

I'll try to be there and if I do go, I will have a room at The Sahara since I get comped by them every time I'm in Vegas. I still have a room for 3 nights that I have to use by the end of April.

that Rio buffet aint no joke... I went in like 95 lol. at least I remember it wasnt no joke (but back then I also liked Taco Bell and MacDonalds lol)

but yah it's only like 3 days, $500 should be more than enough depending on what exactly u wanna do there.

if u jus wanna watch matches, u can make prolly do with like ~$150 I'd think
I want to go, it's not something in my control at the moment. Once I get payed next week I can tell you if I can make it or not.
Where does one get a job like this? Sounds wacky.

I'm hyped! Get hypeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

I'm gonna miss watching CvS2 and Brawl, but I'll manage, since there's more than likely going to be side tourneys for those.

I have a job where I've been working for the past 5 months without pay. I work at my school's computer lab (note: easy as hell... play games and do homework for pay).

When I got hired, it took the college 3 months to process everything but they needed someone to work immediately... so I worked unofficially with me reporting hours to my boss.

I officially went on payroll 2 weeks ago finally after clearing a ton of papers that the school required (aka bullshit). I should have gotten paid last firday but due to a problem with the punch in clock, my hours will be added to the next payroll.

so................... long story short: I have a ton of money coming my way for all the unofficial hours I worked + all the hours I'm working now = good to go... but I have to wait since I don't know how big each paycheck will be >_<

it's been a huge headache especially when you are working long hours with no pay until a later date. I've literally been surviving off little to no money day by day.

sad to say I've missed out on alot of things (including the SFIV CE stick) due to all this crap.

Gotcha. So is your first paycheck just gonna be like some huge paycheck? Or they gonna spread out the sum of money they owe you throughout multiple paychecks?
Gotcha. So is your first paycheck just gonna be like some huge paycheck? Or they gonna spread out the sum of money they owe you throughout multiple paychecks?
from the sound of it, it's going to be spread out through my paychecks till it fulfills my hours I did last year unofficially. It's good/decent pay for what I do ($11 an hour, pre-tax) so even if I don't do many hours I should be good.

I gotta pay bills off first, but I just have to know how much I get normally before committing to EVO.

Let's do this thing!

You have a LOT of time... JULY is many months away.

Save up!

Make some papah!

Work that hustle.

And there is tons of good/cheap food in Vegas!

One place we need to hit up though is Peppermill... The servings O_O!?

Man, I ate at that buffet right around the time they started serving lunch, and I stayed there for like, 2 hours. If I'm gonna pay a lot for a buffet, I damn well am gettin' my money's worth.

I'm down for really taking in Vegas. I'm not going to let money be a major concern because I don't know the next time I'll be back! Plus I graduate college May 1st and the airfare is going to be my gift from my family.

Flights from Southwest for cali are pretty cheap right now.

For San Diego its $140 round trip... 70 each way. I'm probably going to book this week.

I'll technically be 'working' but hey free trip ;)
nice Jimbo. Going to graduate school or other plans?
Going to teach for a few years so that my Master's is paid for (at least partially.)

My goal is to be a Guidance Counselor by the time I'm 35.

I have a friend that is guidance counselor at UCLA... she makes MAD bank! GET MONEY!

I'm booking my room today!

id love to go but i dont have money and im not 21 yet...that and SFIV hype is strangely drawing me into learning about the fighting game scene

yeah i heard something about aksys being a sponsor again for AX. but i dunno what that means. for sure though, i'm allowing you to bring your own controller, i'll have my joysticks available to be borrowed for the tournament only. also, i have a pair of CRTs in case lag is an issue as it was last year, and tournament staff basically said "fuck off" if you asked about it.

nothing impresses hot drunk chicks like your gamer's tan!

You gotta take me to a noodle house. Never been.

I donno anything about noodle house X_X

I kno sum ramen places tho that act all authentic and shyt.

two of them, one of them is good, the other is quite popular but IMO I dont like it.

I did a quick google search, it appears "Togoshi" is the las vegas ramen spot.
When I find out the rates guys, I'll let ya'll know.

I suggest staying at the Rio so you guys can soak in on everything.

Hopefully this year Bang the Machine will be screened again ;)

Checked the rooms at the Rio BEFORE discount pricing...

Set a laptop with some fighters on it right on the table. Eat and play, repeat. :)

I think I'll drive up from Phoenix this year. I used to live on Tropicana and Torrey Pines. Been wanting to go back to visit anyways.
