Fallout: New Vegas - Gen. Discussion & Info
The factions make the game more stressful then it should be. I have to watch everything I do so I don't piss off the NCR.
Yeah, dude. That's what I'm stressing most about (other than the game-breaking glitches and corrupted save files) for when I actually start playing it. I suppose I could just favor 1 faction the first time, and then go back through it and favor the others, but I'm wondering if multiple playthroughs will even be worth it.
They didn't really bring them back, more so that those people just already happen to work at Obsidian.
Either way, they had influence in this game.
Man, I got my butt in a sling. Make sure if you have *ANY* interest in the Platinum Chip that you get it ASAP, or be on at least pardonable terms with Caesar...what a mess of a fight that is once you're vilified by Legion..
Curse being Vilified by the Legion already! Guess I'll get to the point where I choose...eventually.

Just doing minor quests right now. I really need to get to the Mutant town, but that's such a journey. Currently stuck in a vault trying to clean radiated water. I wish there was a way to fast exit a building or cave.

This is not as good as Fallout 3, in my opinion, but I'll still give it a solid 8 to 8.5, if the critical bugs are ever ironed out. Even with them, I'm still have a ton of fun, seeing as I ever run into anything game-breaking.

I don't feel right scoring this game anymore than a 7.5 due to the insane amount of launch glitches and most of the changes being purely cosmetic. This will stick regardless of how long it takes for them to fix them as I'm not in the business of rewarding someone for finally getting around to doing what is expected of them in the first place.

If it weren't for the launch glitches though it would have been a solid 8.5 in my book no question. If only due to it retaining much of the highlights from the previous game. The Fallout series in my humble opinion has the BEST balance between traditional RPG elements and next gen game play mechanics. It still amazes me how Bethesda weaved such a refined fool proof system where nearly every aspect of the game is works as intended. Shops always provided useful items and weaponry, companions also functioned as portable chests, money was rarely an issue depending on your style of play because the repair mechanic, etc. You could really tell FO3 was a labor of love which is why it will remain one of my favorite RPGs of all time. The first person shooting did suck though but V.A.T.S. more than made up for it depending on your genre preference.

Vegas on the other hand was such a blatant copy and paste job from a game play perspective that my regard for it isn't very high.

Came across a glitch you guys might want to watch out for.

After upgrading ED-E, when he dies, I don't get any message. But I didn't lose his perk. So, just be careful that you don't end up doing a lot of stuff and then realizing he's dead.

Er... yeah. I ran into and mentioned that glitch quite a few pages back. Still have the perk with no ED-E and no possibility of recruiting anything/anyone in its place.

Bullshit.

You do realize that Fallout 3 was made by Bethesda and this was made by Obsidian right? Two entirely different dev houses. They actually brought people who worked on Fallout 1 and 2 back to work on New Vegas...
Nope, didnt realize that at all. I didnt follow New Vegas at all during development. Which just means I was correct in my feelings.

Also, does anyone know whats up with Dr. Ada Straus? In my game she is standing their with two mercs point a gun at her. If I talk to her she just talks about being a doctor, if I talk to the mercs they say that she hasnt yet paid them and that they dont think she graduated from med school. I am guessing its glitched but couldnt find anything on it.

I've encountered the same thing with Dr. Straus. Everyone I talked to has, as well. Don't know if everyone is glitching out there, or if they had intended there to be something there, like a quest or fight or anything, but then forget to script it.

There's nothing special about her and she's not a glitch, she's just the local town doctor...

It also happens to say "OBSIDIAN" in the credits in the opening menu...

Did you have a runner come up to you and bring you the Mark of Caesar? If not, when he does, you're golden. It's a pardon for your previous actions against them...if not, make sure you ranger up. If you get vilified by them AFTER you get the Mark, you fail some quests and the Mark is invalid and you'll have an epic fight on your hands.

Also, if you make it to Caesar's tent, as soon as you hear something like "Get him!" back the fuck out the door. The game will pause to reload the exterior, and when you regain control the enemies will start coming out single file. Gives you space to backpedal and dodge their power fists.

If you have ED-E, you can target cloaked enemies. Might help a bit in finding them. As far as actually killing them, after I knocked off one of them, I ended up using the rebar club. Even though I didn't meet the strength requirement, it still beat the shit out of them.

Yeah...ED-E is a huge help. Even if you have 0% to hit in VATS, you can target, cancel, then jump to ironsights and pop them enough to knock the Stealth Boy down.

I'll have to go get ED-E then. I've got Boone with me right now and he's pretty worthless.

You can take both. You can have one robot and one human companion at a time. Boone has saved my ass more times than I can count with his sniping.

As I mentioned earlier, at one point in the game, my DT rating became grayed out. Earlier tonight, it disappeared completely! Even worse, unlike when it got grayed out, I no longer any DT! I was getting chewed apart pretty quick. Considering I invested two perks for Toughness, I was pretty damn pissed. Fortunately, I shut my system off, and now the DT rating is back. The bugs in this are so weird.

From what I've been reading in the 360 forum thread on FNV and the PC forum thread on FNV, it's sounding more like an Ubisoft game than a Bethesda/Obsidian game...

Yep, ED-E is great. And so is Boone. I am only playing on Normal, but they have been unstoppable. Boone pretty much snipes everything before I even get close to it. It's so good/bad that I leave him behind a lot when I know I will be facing easy enemies, because I want to get credit towards my challenges.
Can anyone point me in the direction of getting a robot companion? I already have Boone.
You should be able to find and repair ED-E real early in in Primm at the Mojave Express.
Crap. I can't find my Fallout: New Vegas companions Boone or Rex. I still have their perks but they're not at Novac or the Lucky 38.
I've heard about this happening...a lot...to just about everyone. I am constantly making sure my companions are with me...to the point that it's getting silly. Of course, losing your companion happened in Fallout 3, too. Companions in that, though, were kind of pointless, so I just never used them, and thus, it never became an issue.

I'm almost 30 hours in and have had no serious issues. Occasional minor glitch of no consequence (a person stuck inside a bar tabletop, bug half-stuck in a rock), twice had frame-rate issues (save and instant reload = fine).

I'm just not seeing the game-breaking glitches that are stopping people from playing a game they bought, or buying a game they are definitely going to like (if you like FO3).

I'm about 47 hours in and this is my first "serious" setback. Very lame. Ah well, Rock Band 3 will be here tomorrow, maybe I'll just retire it for the bit. The game is too brutal without a couple of good companions.
Man I love this wild wasteland perk, i have run into some funny stuff
I *really* wish I had taken that.

I just don't see myself replaying this for a VERY long time once I finish it up on this path, at least until a GOTY edition fully patched with all the DLC comes out.
I have the wild wasteland perk, but I haven't seen anything yet...
I didnt either for a while til i looked around a couple of areas, if you want ill tell ya some i have found.

I was thinking about taking Wild Wasteland, but the according to the wiki, only around fifteen things happen if you take that trait, some of them not being any good.

I think I'm in the same boat. I'll beat the game on one path, then once the GOTY edition comes out, I'll either pick up from another save before my decision, or just start fresh and go Hardcore.

The strategy guide also lists 15 different things, most, if not all of them in fixed area's that might be easy to miss.
I picked another Perk.

Found a bug this morning that refreshes the merchants inventory (more ammo+mods!).
Not sure if it's already known, but it's new to me!
Only tested with Alexander/Female Merchant at the 188 overpass, but it looks like others restock as well;

1.Buy your items/ammo from Alexander/FM (requires 45 Gun skill).
2.Stand close enough to talk.
3.Save.
4.Quit to main menu.
5.Load save.
6.Talk to Alex/FM ASAP.
7.Buy new items.
8.Repeat.

If done right, they should have more items/ammo and random mods.

NOTE: Sometimes if you talk to a non merchant NPC between doing Steps 3&4, the items wont restock when you start Steps 4&5.
Found a workaround- just buy anything and quit.

Level 15 decked out in Mk2 Combat Armor with almost all my guns fully modded.
Come 'n git sum Deathclaws!
If you kill...

idk but.....
I killed everyone at the fort :D

You must be doing the bottlecap glitch to be able to afford all the mods, right? I'm not judging - I think this is an awesome glitch!

If you're vilified by the Legion AFTER you get the Mark of Caesar, then no, you fail all Caesar related quests. That being said, if the barge isn't there, go to the end of the dock and kind of look around, you may have to drop down in the water, but somewhere around there the context-sensitive trigger to take the boat to the fort is still there. Be prepared for an insane fight, though.

After getting a Sheriff for Primm, they finally opened the casino to gamble. I kept playing Blackjack until the manager comp'd me, then I cashed out.
While looking through my inventory to lighten the load, noticed all the chips, ran back to the casino and got more than enough.

Went online to see if anyone else experienced this and saw that it was pretty common.

Bugs like this make things easier on me, as I'm the uncle that the nephews come to when they need help doing/finding something in a game- including earning money.

Sorry if someone else already responded - 30+ pages is too much to read...but you do know you can rescue those guys right? It's easy,
just use a stealthboy. The guards won't alert to you and the captives just walk away.
My problem was in the town where you got the quest, I'm like not going to let these legion guys get away with what they did right? Killed them all and became villified....then the game became impossible after that because with the weapons I had at that point they were just impossible to deal with. I had to go back to a save before killing them and just let them go. Hope to meet up with them later on sometime when I have a laser gatling gun or better.
I am sad because I am just not feeling this game as much as I did FO3. The story itself seems boring and done a million times. Guy tries to kill you, you try to get revenge.

None of the pop of FO3 is here at all. The bit at the beginning of FO3 establishing your char and developing relationships when you start off in the vault and then venture out to find your dad was epic. This just seems like another run of the mill generic revenge plot.

Now I am still very very early in the game but nothing so far has interested me at all.

EDIT: I regret getting this so early, this is defiantly a price drop game. Its very obvious they havent put the care into crafting a truly deep game like the crew of FO3. For example, I got a quest to go save some powder gangers from some legion troops. So I hustle over there thinking, well I have a high speech maybe I can talk them into handing them to me. Or maybe I can sneak them out with my sneak skill at night.

Uuhhhhhhhhhh no. When I get there its nothing but 5 random legion NPCs that I cant even interact with. They all just say the generic 1 line of dialogue as well as the actual slaves who say, "Hi ya doing?," when I walk up to them.

Sigh. Should have waited, should have waited.
Darn, I'm getting this weird error upon loading up my recent game saves "This save game relies on downloadable content that is no longer available. Some objects may be no longer available. Continue loading?"

If I select yes, I get this message, "The storage device you selected is no longer available. Load cancelled."

Bah, I've had to load older saves twice now. I've only lost like ten minutes the first time, but now I have to go at least 40 minutes back. Bummer.

Haha, I got Vilified there too. I was fortunate to have
Rex, who died in a door way blocking the Legion from getting me, as I flamed them. Rex has helped me out a lot, by dying in door ways.
Good times.

If it is indeed out and fixes my ED-E problem then I'll pop this back into my drive. Otherwise I'm not touching this game for a long time because after Black Ops (assuming it isn't trash) Dead Space 2 is next.
