Favorite Up and Coming Band?

What is your favorite up and coming band? Mine is easily Me Talk Pretty. Some of you sports gamers may recognize the name from NHL 10. It seemed to be the band that sang a song that every player found themselves singing long after playing the game. They have their debut album due out soon which I can't wait for. This is the song that many of you have probably heard.
Genghis Tron. Went from releasing a 5 song EP on a indie label to getting signed to Relapse and co-headlining tours with Baroness.
I purchased off iTunes a Relapse sampler with one song from many bands on their label because I love Mastodon and High on Fire. Genghis Tron was one of them, the song being I Won't Come Back Alive. I REALLY liked this song so I bought the album Board Up the House. I was really disappointed. The rest of the album is not much like that one song. That song has very cool programming and synths but the rest of the album doesn't really use them too well. Some of it's cool but its mostly just screaming and generic metal riffs.

I'm really liking Tombs right now. They're pretty new with 2 albums under their belt. Winter Hours is a fantastic album from start to finish. Baroness is incredible too, they have 2 EPS and 2 full lengths but they're just now getting a lot of recognition. I'm pissed that I missed them on their Blue Record tour.

EDIT - Adding a Tombs video for the track Gossamer.

That's such an awful name.

And Evanescence has been playing that same shitty music for, like, 10 years.

They're not really getting the recognition they deserve, but Hayaino Daisuki. It's Jon Chang from Discordance Axis and Matsubara from Mortalized. They're like taking grindcore and throwing in some great 80s thrash, and putting a bunch of caffine into the mix. They're wonderful, but they're not gonna end up having too many people hear em. Their new CD comes out today, too.

Round Rock Leader? Are they from Round Rock, TX? I grew up real close to there...

I might have to go check out one of their live shows some time, they are pretty cool.

Sounds more like Flyleaf than Evanescence. But I know what you are thinking, girl singer in a semi rock band, MUST sound like Evanescence... not quite though.

Every time I finish a game in NHL 10, I say outload... cue the fake-Evanessence shit... and "Wake up, Wake up" comes on... not kidding.

I used to JAM some Funeral For a Friend around 2003-4. I got "4 Ways to Scream Your Name" right before "Causually Dressed and Deep in Conversation".
They started to get a pretty decent following in America I thought, but I think they just got lost in the mix with all the bands that sound similar. "Hours" came out and I really lost interest, not just in the band, but in that genre as a whole. It all sounded too much alike.

As for an upcoming band, I don't know how big they are, but not too big. I really enjoy MuteMath a lot, and they just put out a new record last year, still need to pick it up. The video for Typical is probably my favorite video ever, it's really cool. Band learned how to play/sing the song backwards, and filmed themselves playing/singing backwards, then played the video in reverse to match the song.

I like Mutemath from what I've heard so far. it is unfortunate that Funeral For A Friend released "Hours" when they did - it is their worst album by far (but still decent, IMO) because it definitely has that generic sound that everyone was doing around that time. Their last 2 albums were much better. Oh well.

I wouldn't say up and coming but modwheelmood is a favorite of mine. Led by the former keyboardist of Nine Inch Nails, Alessandro Cortini.

Are you going to the Scion Fest in C-Bus?

Also, what's an up-and-coming band anyway? Where are they from and where are they going?

^ Grey Britain is a phenomenal record, particularly "Death Voices." Their other earlier stuff was good but didn't strike me the way their most recent did.

In other words, I only like their oldnew stuff. ;)

I've only heard their really older stuff live, but I liked Orchestra of Wolves for what it was and Grey Britain was fantastic. Any band that gets a million dollar deal from WB, gets dropped, and collectively takes the "eh, no biggie. Let's have a pint." approach is okay by me. I'm generally not into hardcore for the most part, but they blew me away live without resorting to the typical stereotypes of the genre.

I wanted to but I didn't get my tickets before they sold out and I found out I'm probably going to be out of town. Are u going?
edit: whoa just noticed the vocoder. they are like a terrible At All Costs.]
At All Cost was a pretty good Austin band. They broke up recently, though.
Attack Attack.
Great fucking Band.
You can't be serious.

I like At All Costs and they are some of the nicest dudes ever. Attack Attack was like a bad cliche version of them....oddly enough 5 years after At All Costs did it better and throw in 2000 scenester fashion and vocals.

Think so. I reserved a ticket, now I gotta read up on whether it's still good or not (something about them being freed up if not picked up by a certain date) - but they were free so it's not a huge deal.

DRI and Pelican I'd love to see, and some other bands I dig but don't feel so passionate about seeing, like Magrudergrind.

The DRI show at FFFFest was insane, they put on a damn good show. They were possibly the most intense band besides the Jesus Lizard.

HOOOOOOLLLLY SHAQ EFFIN FUUUUU. Gallows fans here? God I was going to post them but looks like somebody already took care of that. My favorite band by far to come out of the second half of the 2000's. Saw them live in Chicago in a small club where they got to headline (skipped out on the AFI headline show cause god dammit they deserve more time on stage). After Orchestra of Wolves I was hopeful for Grey Britain being quite good but it turned out to be an excellent album that destroys their debut.

EDIT: Also I wasn't aware they were dropped from Warner. Oh well, as long as somebody distributes them in the US I'm happy.

Based on some of the recent bands listed (between the buried and me and gallows), this thread is slowly being converted from up-and-coming to my favorite band. Neither one of those bands are up-and-coming.

Between the Buried and Me has 6 studio albums was signed to a major label (Victory) in 2005 (5 years back).

Gallows has been on the scene since 2005. Signed to a major label (Epitaph) in 2007.

Attack Attack is far different than At All Cost. At All Cost is metal. Closer to say an Ateryu than Attack Attack. Attack Attack uses 808 sampling and keyboards in addition to Auto Tune. Here is spoiler comparison of typical songs by each band.
At All Cost "the Irony":

Attack Attack "intro/Dr. Shavargo Pt. 3":

Completely different sound.

Epitaph isn't a major label. Warner Brothers is, and they dropped Gallows after one album.

To be totally honest, you're not "up and coming" either if eight people have heard of your band and you only play shows in abandoned warehouses.

Pelican, DRI, Shrinebuilder, Voivod and Struck by Lightning are the ones I would love to see but if not oh well. I've heard Landmine Marathon is pretty good (as well as YOB, Black Tusk and Trap Them). Though it sounds like a clusterfuck to me since the bands will be spread over four different venues (Circus, Skullys, Newport and Bernies Distillery).
