Final Fantasy VII (PC DD) w/ Achievements, Character Booster, Cloud Saves for $9.99
I'm down for this day one. Sold my PC copy years ago, whats going on with Character Boost? Why would this be a selling feature it's like the new Mario "let me run the level for you", that takes out the fun.
I'm not sure. It could be SE running off the assumption that PC gamers are all casuals who can't play anything harder than porno VNs (I vaguely recall From Soft making a statement about Dark Souls being too hardcore for PC gamers, though I can't find the source), and therefore need a little boost, but I'd have figured they'd have enough international publishing experience to know how untrue that is.

It's hard for me to imagine that this will be better than running the PlayStation version on ePSXe.

Then you haven't seen the game tricked out with beautiful graphics mods.

I can't wait for casual PC games like Civ V and Starcraft 2 to come to my Wii.

I would make that same joke about Diablo 3, but it won't actually help my cause.

How do you know that these mods will be compatible with this new PC version?

I sold my PC copy of FFVII so I'll have to think about getting this. If it's a Steam version then it's pretty likely I'll get it at some point. If it's GFWL, I'll probably pass. If it's something else, then we'll see.
Something different, because it is currently exclusive to the Square-Enix Online Shop.

However, it was registered in Steam files along with Final Fantasy VIII, so expect them to make their way to Steam soon.
There have been games and dlc that activated on Steam but weren't available for purchase on Steam during for a time or even ever (in the case of some dlc) so it's possible. Then again I'd assume they'd put Steam in the requirements somewhere if that were the case but who knows?

All of the recent Square Eidos PC stuff has been Steamworks so I tend to lean toward that but we'll see. I'll definitely grab it if it goes on Steam and definitely pass if it's Microsoft GFWL.

The only thing that gives me hope regarding background resolution are some of the pictures on the website. If memory serves, those pictures were used on the screens telling you to insert another CD. The images on the website are obviously of higher resolution, indicating that maybe they've upscaled all the old artwork? I honestly don't care about the videos. I just want high resolution backgrounds and higher resolution polygon models. If it's more difficult to do the videos, I don't care much.

Anyway, I'll likely buy it regardless of what they do because I'm a sucker.
No dipshit, I'm pointing out that the other games he listed are NOT in the Steam registry files. Only FFVII and FFVIII show up. FFIX, XI, and XIV are nowhere to be seen when actually checking the files, and that website at least claims XI and XIV to be there, but they clearly pulled it out of their ass.
I already admitted that you were right and FF 9 wasn't in the registry, I don't understand why you keep dragging that out. As Galwraith pointed out FF 11 is already on Steam, which your method of viewing the registries doesn't even show. As udaozzy mentioned, the website is more up to date with more detailed information about each product. As previously stated, http://cdr.thebronasium.com/ is a legitimate website. Search Google, Steam Forums, or even here on CAG; it's not a BS site that makes stuff up and they "aren't pulling it out of their asses," it's legit.

I assume they have a registry entry for XI, considering they sell it .
It would be sort of neat if we're GFWL. I would get a lot messages on XBL from noobs asking me how I played FF7 on my Xbox...

Great, finally people will see that this game has not aged well at all. However I'm sure you'll get the rabid fan boys that will praise this like the second coming of Jesus.

Yes, everyone who doesn't enjoy exactly the same things you do is an idiot and deserves to be ridiculed.

Well I will say it like this. If your playing an RPG not for the story you are doing something quite wrong. And I'm not so sure stories really lose much with age. At least they don't like graphics, but then again I thought the graphics were always terrible in this game. Yet I always thought it was a good game.

The people who hate the game are way more unbearable than the people who praise the game as the best ever.

I bet you like FF9. I thought FF9 was childish and bland, with a less interesting plot and less engaging gameplay mechanics than FF7. VII certainly wasn't the best game ever, but it was quite charming with some outstanding gameplay ideas and is one of my favorite RPGs. To each his own is what I'm getting at.

I loved both VII and VIII but lost the last disc of VII and my entire VIII. I would love to see them updated (up-res'd to something tolerable on larger screens) and re-released.

I agree, I also like VIII. That reminds me that I stopped my most recent playthrough just before you split your team on disc 2. The flashbacks and strategy of drawing really set it apart from other FF games. Ugh, now I feel like digging it out and playing again...

OT - You know what? We need a Parasite Eve remake. Not 3rd Birthday. Updated graphics so we can ogle Aya, and a new PE2 with the control scheme from PE1 instead of RE. That stop and turn crap doesn't work with ATB.

http://www.escapistmagazine.com/for...e-Enix-registers-FinalFantasyVIIPC-com-domain

"It doesn't appear to be an official SE domain" my ass. Research is your friend.
Perhaps in the future you should make it clear what you're referring to like an adult, instead of resorting to sarcasm and insults like a child. Then resorting to more insults when a person somehow doesn't divine what you mean from your ill-worded post. Look at your post and the post you quote, it looks like you're trying to prove the guy wrong about something. But, you never specified what. That's not a problem of inference on my end, it's a problem of conveyance on yours.

And yes, I already figured out on my own already that the website is official. Can you seriously blame me for doubting the legitimacy of the website that does not have square-enix anywhere in the domain?

edit: I also want to point out that I'm not going to argue with you, so if you want to insult me more, don't bother replying. But if you have a problem with people misinterpreting your posts, you really need to work on your conveyance.

You speak the truth. Hopefully the game does come to steam. I might pick it up if it does otherwise, I still have a copy I can play in my ps3.

They must have done SOMETHING to update the game beyond the original. I remember having to upgrade my PC (back in the day) because I wanted to play this and didn't have a Playstation. It required 32MB of RAM! I was disappointed because I only had 8MB at the time! It also needed a 133MHz/166MHz CPU.

So seriously, unless they've just slapped some sort of emulation layer onto this (I hope not), there must be *something* that is bumping those system requirements up to (and in some cases over) 10x the old system requirements.

Why is this in the Video Game Deals Section?

MSRP is $9.99
No Release Date info (except Coming Soon from the Website listed in OP)
No Pre-order Date Info, Pre-order Discount, Incentives/Promo Item(s), etc.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but unless it's an actual sale/deal or something along those lines, wouldn't it be better to move this to the PC Games & PC General Discussion section or merged with the previously existing FF VII thread there?

Because it's relatively inexpensive and potentially much cheaper than trying to track down an old used copy of the former out of print PC version. It also might generally be of interest to people here who may not necessarily check that other thread.

There's plenty of stuff here that if you want to be really anal isn't technically a deal like expensive collector editions, certain games at full retail being back in stock (Diablo 3 etc), Kickstarters which may never see the light of day etc. Who cares? It's of interest and yes maybe a deal to some people.

If you don't like it why not move on instead of trying to be a net nanny.

Ahh, FFVII brings out all the wankers.

Also, where'd the "$9.99" come from? Not that I think it's a reasonable price, given the leaked pound sterling and euro prices, but it isn't on the site anywhere that I've noticed.

I probably should have mentioned that it's a strictly Japanese prejudice, since the only games that Japan tends to play on PCs are bullet hell shmups involving prepubescent girls, and 18+ dating sims involving (supposedly not) prepubescent girls. Japan has always focused more on consoles and arcades than the PC, which means they don't often pay attention to what we play on it. (interdasting article)

I stand corrected then.
an overrated, horribly aged re-release coming out soon with no pre-order extras or anything, why is this a deal again?
This is $10.
Buying it on eBay is $33 minimum.
It is a deal, even if you don't like the game or how the re-release is being handled.

I have it on the PC and it is a bitch getting it to work. Also not all of the game has been updated, there's a very small community that is still active but barely. The game looks much better thanks to the extremely hard work done by those guys, maybe Square went the easy route and simply paid them for the work and finished it off.

So the FFVII remake is finally here, and its...
a PC exclusive without updated graphics...
wtf Square.
So the FFVII remake is finally here, and its...

its not a remake its a re-release

a remake or HD-ing of it wont happen anytime soon. probably only after another 5 horrible final fantasy's release and they are left with no other option than to deal with the fact that they will never eclipse this chapter in the series.
That's the only reason I'm thinking about getting this... but during a sale.
thats only if this is the same pc version from 1998, if SE actually redid the port I don't think any of the mods for the 1998 pc version will work with this 're-release'.

What the fuck? A cheat in the game that gives you max hp, mp, and gold is advertised as a feature? Why the fuck would they put in a "REMOVE ALL THE SATISFACTION OF ACTUALLY PLAYING THE GAME" button?

For the same reason companies release cheat guides and walkthroughs, and people buy them.

There are only so many hours in a day to devote to gaming thanks to school and work, so I find this feature very exciting. And besides, I've restarted this game way too many times without having finished it.

It was an easy feature for them to add, so they might as well have added it. There was already a ton of free to download "trainers" for the game, SE probably just packaged one of those with this release.

You might as well just watch a walkthrough/speed run then. I dont see how people can enjoy games without actually "beating it". You cant say you beat FF7 if you use this feature, I mean you did but did you really?

And you restarting the game is your own fault, this game has been out for like 15 years, if you never "had time" before you could of used a gameshark.

On another note, I might just get this to have on my laptop, never got into playing games on pc but im a tool for FF7 kinda. The achievements might push me to play more.
