Ive been debating on building my first PC for awhile now but seriously got into specing one out for the past couple weeks.  My budget is roughly $1000 but it can swing in either direction some.  I decided on a intel processor & a nvidia card. Was looking around the i5-3350 and GTX 770 range.

But i noticed a ASUS G10AC bundle on Newegg for 975 with $75 mail in rebate and copy of Assassins Creed 4.  Here are the quick bullet points.

  • Intel Core i7 4770(3.40GHz)
  • 8GB DDR3 1TB HDD Capacity
  • Windows 8
  • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 3GB
I tried to spec out the computer on PC Part Picker and I noticed there was not a 3GB GTX 760.  So i went to Google and could not find any info on a 3GB GTX 760..  Can anybody shed some light on this?

What do you guys think of this bundle?  Could this pre-built computer run games at ultra/high with a great FPS? Or do I have a better chance building my own.

I would like to build my computer but I feel like this is a decent deal and a good start for PC Gaming.  Seeing as the i7 4470 is $300 and a GTX 760 4GB is around $300.  I would have to buy all the parts including a operating system.

Thanks alot!

There definitely is no 3 GB 760.  I think the only 3 GB Nvidia cards are on 780s.  You don't really need an i7 for gaming so, at most, I would go with an i5-4670k (these are around $220 on both Amazon and Newegg now) or you could drop it to the 4670 if you don't want to over clock.  There are a couple of cheaper solutions CPU-wise but it's only another $10 or $20 savings.

In terms of 760 vs. 770 the 770 is going to give you an additional 20% or so in terms of FPS and last you longer down the road as AAA game tech evolves.  4 GB is fairly pointless on a 760 as the current FPS gain is minimal and the the difference between a 4 GB 760 and a 2 GB 770 is maybe $20-30 and the 770 will give you much better performance.  I think it's a decent price for this set up the problem is the money is a bit misallocated (although I'm sure Asus just has a ton of 4770 processors sitting around so they used them).  Still, it is possible to assemble your own system with an i5 processor and a 770 card for a little over $1000.  Personally I'd opt for that versus buying this.
