The cover looks fan-made. It's not bad, but I feel like it could be better. I also don't like how Punk's tattoos are colored in red. I'd like it better if it were his trunks that had parts colored in. Also, it's probably just nitpicking, but the Punk model looks more reminiscent of All-Stars.

Cover, schmover. They need to address the stuff on the disc more than anything else. They fooled a lot of people, including myself, with the changes to the game last year (including rebranding the game by name, as it wasn't "SvR'12").

They fooled me into thinking it was an improved product, and it was far from that. They have a lot of goodwill to rebuild with me before I buy this game, let alone at full MSRP.

I hope this "WWE Attitude" branding isn't going to become a real thing. The last freaking thing WWE needs to go back to is the "Attitude Era." Some of the ideas and principles of the "Attitude Era" - perhaps. But those are probably more universal concepts that should be present for modern wrestling TV. Although knowing WWE, if "WWE Attitude" is going to be a 'thing,' it'll just be the same old shit being marketed to us as 'new.'

I decided to watch Raw is Owen over on YouTube. Mark Henry's choking up while reciting his poem still hurts like hell to hear.
I decided to watch Raw is Owen over on YouTube. Mark Henry's choking up while reciting his poem still hurts like hell to hear.
I haven't watched the tribute shows in years. Dunno when I'll revisit them. They are just too damn depressing. Owen's death was incredibly depressing because of how he died. On a somewhat related note, probably the only aspect I like about WWE watering-down its in-ring style is that, hopefully, there will be less drug-induced deaths.

YouTube is a weird place. I started off watching clips of last night's Raw, then funneled to Waterproof Blonde (the original musicians who did Christian's music), took a left into Vader and the Road Warriors debuting in TNA, and ended up reminiscing over WCW clips of Warrior's debut and, probably the best debut in all of pro wrestling, Hall and Nash on Nitro.

I still have the Raw is Owen episode taped on VHS somewhere around here. I also have the PPV recorded because it was a school night and I couldn't stay up. I remember my mom coming in my room and telling me that Owen Hart had died and I just sat there in disbelief.

I said this in chat last night but I want the Johnny Ace cover printed on the other side of the Punk one so I can use it as an alternate cover.

I think the Johnny Ace cover should be the People Power edition and sold exclusively through THQ.com.

First few images leaked ahead of the IGN article. Only a small handful weren't from the trailer. Classic WWF logo looks stupid. WWE can use the classic WWF logo. Not only that, but if we're focusing on the attitude era, shouldn't it be the attitude logo?

Wonder if they'll update Punk's shirt considering it's been almost 4-5 months outdated (even though I love the white shirt over his current gray one).
"John Cena not being on Raw live was a sound move. Cena is far and away WWE's top star right now and giving one's bell cow a respite from additional TV exposure is a good thing. Cena is a valued commodity in WWE and not over exposing him is good for the Cena TV persona and also provides other stars the opportunity to 'maximize their minutes' and be more impactful."
Well thank God they're not going to overexpose him.

There was a bug on THQ's roster page earlier where if you typed in a name, it'd link to a 404 error if that person was in the game. If they weren't in the game, it'd do nothing. A few people and I on caws.ws typed in everything we could think of, and I think we got the full roster list. Don't take this as truth, it's just a rumor, but this same method worked at accurately predicting every bit of DLC for WWE '12 a few weeks prior to its launch.

The Attitude roster looks like it was lifted straight from the PS1 game of the same name. All that's missing is D-Lo brown and the APA.

Dolph Ziggler and Billy Gunn in the same game. It might be heat stroke but that was my first thought seeing the first round of roster rumors.

IF that roster is legit.. big if, the APA's exclusion is kind of shocking.

and there's a lot more missing from the Attitude game.. Al Snow, Dr. Death, Droz, Gangrel, Jeff Jarrett, Headbangers, Steve Blackman, etc.. but I get your point. Honestly surprised that Chyna isn't in it, but with her being a porn star or something now, I guess that's not really that shocking. No Sable definitely is a shock, though, considering she's with Brock.

News from the IGN article:

The game’s mechanics, visuals and controls are fundamentally the same as they were last year.

The biggest of these deals with context-sensitive power moves that enable players to recreate some of the most memorable and spectacular moments in WWE history. These actions, which range from literally breaking the ring with super heavyweights to bulldozing a rival through the ring barrier to catching a finisher in mid-air, can only be enabled by certain wrestlers in specific locations and instances. Much like the appearance of a ‘Finisher’ icon, an ‘OMG!!’ logo will appear above a character’s head when they are capable of executing these devastating maneuvers, which can quickly change the tide of a match - or even end it. The developers are also in the process of creating specialized visual and audio methods of presenting these moments, ensuring they feel as significant in the game as they do on television.

You can select the amount of finishers you start with, from 0 to infinite.

Players will be able to adjust a setting called ‘Match Experience’. Three settings - “Quick”, “Normal” and “Epic” - will affect the overall pacing of a fight, independent of AI difficulty.

Weight detection is in.

Pinning is now not only influenced by damage, but the power of the move that was previously executed.

Non-tagged partners can now be controlled.

Replays are being adjusted to be more relevant.

In general, main objectives are simple (pin your opponent, grab the title), allowing players to advance the storyline simply by winning matches. However optional side objectives are more meticulous by nature, setting more specific victory conditions - asking players to put an opponent through a table, for example. Those looking to get the most out of WWE ’13 will want to pay attention to all the game asks of them. A wealth of bonus material can be unlocked by completing all side tasks, and there can be several per match. The developers have even included a few ‘hidden’ objectives, opening up further rewards if players decide to pursue a more comprehensive strategy for beating the mode.

I don't have a problem with the cover, reminds me of a comic book cover and that's pretty rad. However, I haven't played a wrasslin' game since Smackdown VS RAW 2008, might have been 2007. So, despite the awesome cover, it's a pretty tough buy for me.

I must be the only person who wanted to play out Salvatore Sincere versus Alberto del Rio.

And the Gang Wars.

Maybe it's jadedness, but I'm unimpressed with the roster. Where's Justin "Hawk" Bradshaw, Steve Williams, and 2 Cold Scorpio? DLC?

I'd buy it if they put a Los Boricuas Vs DOA story in. Seriously.

And to think they only need one of those people to do the mo-cap for both of them.....

QUESTION about RAW

is it just that JULY ep that is going to be 3 hours or is all RAW shows going from 2 hours to 3 hours..

if they go to 3 hours something makes me think Smackdown is going to be canceled soon

The presence of Cactus Jack as a separate entity (ie, not a reskin of Mankind or Foley) may have sold me on the game.

I usually grab the previous year's 'rasslin' title once it drops to around $20 but if someone has a decent launch day deal on this ($20 giftcard or something) I'll bite early.

Every RAW will be 3 hours... I don't see how they can do it.

I immediately wonder where the fuck Owen Hart is. The "I am not a nugget" bit from the DX Nation of Domination speech is absolutely one of the best segments of the attitude era. Putting Ken Shamrock in without Owen Hart, Steve Blackman, Val Venis, Golddust, or Jeff Jarrett really just doesn't make any sense at all.

Other missing players: Savio Vega, Ahmed Johnson, Crush, "Prime Time" Brian Lee Chainz, Mideon, Viscera, D-Lo Brown, and of course - The APA, which REALLY don't make sense unless they're planned as DLC, considering Faarooq's induction into the Hall of Fame this year.

I'm always a year behind with sports games, WWE being no exception. As long as you can create the characters or download them, then I think it will do well.

From 411mania:

WWE alumni Jillian Hall was arrested on April 23rd in Orange County, Florida and charged with domestic violence-related battery. Hall revealed on Thursday via Twitter that she had separated from her husband Mike Farole after two years of marriage:

As most of u already assume what's going on with me recently.. some Really horrible things've happened and Mike and i have separated. This news and negativity has been very hard on me, but time is healing. I'll be me very soon.

Hall then tweeted a photo of a tattoo with Farole's name, which she said was "A tiny mistake.. Lol."

The mugshot is huge so it's spoiler'd.

Martha Hart is preventing WWE from ever doing anything with Owen. No HOF, no figures, no video games, no dedicated DVD's (though some of his matches have started to appear on some compilations).

I assume that she's financially set then. Or not and she's just taking an even stronger stand.

At the same time, Owen Hart was a guy who dedicated his life to entertaining people. It's cliche but I think Owen would want people to continue to be entertained by him even after his death.

Just realized they weren't in the game. And if there's Goldust, there has to be Hot Rod.

Speaking of good talent to never win a world title for WCW or WWE...

I hate how they fill the Attitude lineup with doubles. Like 3 Foleys, a 2nd Undertaker, 2nd Christian, 2nd Mark Henry, 2nd Big Show, 2nd Kane, 2nd Triple H. They should just have those as alternate costume and not really count.

Speaking of Owen.. decided to randomly watch the KOTR set this morning on Netflix, started with disc 2.. first match was HBK vs. Bulldog w/ Owen doing commentary. It's the first time in a long time that I've heard Owen talk, outside of his theme. It was good to hear his voice.

That roster isn't 100% confirmed. It's not even 10% confirmed. It's plausible, though. I also hate the 2nd slot wrestlers, it's not like they couldn't make attitude era be alternate outfits. I guess they ran out of people to add.

I should start working on themes.. just in case.

Every time I hear Shane's theme, all I see is this (well, just the back and forth - surprised there's not a gif of him going back and forth at the entrance ramp):

Apparently, there were some huge plans in place for the cancelled "Brawl" game, via Polygon:

A Polygon source who used to work at Blue Tongue tells us the game was in development for 1.5 years, with the video footage below showing the game after six months of development. The video shows the game in its pre-alpha stage; many elements had not been implemented yet, such as the UI, AI, certain gameplay features, and environments.

Approximately 30-40 developers were working on the game and our source tells us it was similar in scope to other Blue Tongue projects but with a higher profile because the WWE is one of THQ's biggest licenses.

Another former Blue Tongue employee told Polygon that the game was going to be "pretty big" with plans for a merchandise and TV show tie-in. The source tells us Blue Tongue was attempting to create something unique with the WWE license, such a completely original game world.

The source that sent us the video said the game's cancellation was an unfortunate case of mismanagement and that the studio could have completed the game had THQ not intervened.

The two minute long video shows a cartoonish take on the world of WWE, with tables and chairs exploding on impact and punches releasing blasts and sparks.

A similar video was released a year ago by the WWE to show the potential of the WWE license, but this was before the studio's closure.

Blue Tongue was based in Melbourne, Australia, and is best known for its original IP, de Blob and de Blob 2. The studio was closed in 2011 when THQ closed all its Australian studios, including Studio Oz (also known as THQ Brisbane).

Link to the original article with the two-minute gameplay video included:
http://www.theverge.com/2012/5/30/3051904/brawl-may-have-been-blue-tongues-last-game

That video made Brawl look okay, almost like Power Stone.

Like almost everything WWE does, though, it was about a decade late.

the whole OMG moments thing makes it sound like Randy Orton and Stone Cold will be the 2 most overpowered guys in the game. Their finishers can be applied at anytime in any condition.
- WWE's new primary goal is TV ratings and their various TV products. The change in direction has been in the making for some time now and comes straight from Vince McMahon.

In the past, pay-per-view has been WWE's #1 goal but that's no longer the case. One of the main ideas now is to use pay-per-view events to bring in viewers to WWE's weekly TV shows.
That sounds incredibly ass-backwards. Discuss.

It explains the weird, random Ryback and Brodus Clay segments the past few PPV's.

If it leads to more entertaining Raw's, I'm all for it. It kind of sucks for the PPV buyers, but once the Network launches, it'll make sense (since the non-major PPV's are rumored to be part of the Network). Punk/Bryan had a decent match this past Monday. That doesn't happen often.

Maybe it'll start getting edgier. I liked Big Show coming out and trashing Brodus Clay's gimmick. Heel turn for Brodus would be awesome, he'll just come out one night and be like, "You know what? This is stupid!" and go on a rampage.

I disagree.

Maybe it's my longtime fandom for Firepro talking, but the way that a wrestler "works" varies tremendously based upon the era, their push, the debut or retirement of different moves, etc. For example, Undertaker nearly retired the tombstone for an extended period of time starting in the late 90s and began using the Last Ride. Later, the tombstone reappeared but it was accompanied by his move into more of a striking and submission-based offense. Apart from the name, there's very little in common between the Undertaker who tombstoned Hogan on a steel chair for the title in (I think) 1991 and the one that faced Brock Lesnar in the Hell in a Cell title match in 2002.

I remember spending hours tweaking my 2000 Royal Rumble Cactus Jack on Firepro Returns because I wanted to capture Foley as an even slower, almost invincible, main-event guy to reflect how he wrestled as Cactus against Triple H at the 2000 Royal Rumble. By default, Cactus in Firepro always seemed to reflect his mid-ninties, Japanese deathmatch persona, simply changing his appearance wasn't going to cut it.
I liked Big Show coming out and trashing Brodus Clay's gimmick.
The thing with Big Show trashing Brodus and Cena is that he was kinda right. It's not good booking for a heel to make sense when they're upset about something - you can't really genuinely boo someone who has a legitimate gripe.
