That's right! For the small price of your privacy, you can get the following Microsoft products for free:
 • Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate (32-bit and 64-bit DVD)
 • Microsoft Office Ultimate 2007
 • Microsoft Money Plus Premium
 • Microsoft Student with Encarta Premium 2008
 • Microsoft Streets and Trips 2008
Just visit http://wfp.microsoft.com (WFP = Windows Feedback Program) and agree to install a sort of tracking software on your computer for three months and you'll get ONE those programs for free.

Note that you will receive your product only after we have confirmed that you have:
 • Entered a valid e-mail and shipping address.
 • Fully completed the survey.
 • Downloaded and installed the software on Windows Vista or Windows XP.
 • Used our software for at least 3 months on a Windows Vista or Windows XP computer that is periodically connected to the internet.
We will verify that you’ve used the Windows Feedback Program software for three months, and then we’ll send your gift to you. If we detect that your computer does not send data, we will notify you.
Limit one gift per person. This offer is non-transferable. This offer expires on 12/31/2007, while supplies last, and is not redeemable for cash. Taxes, if any, are your sole responsibility.

Requirements?
 • Participation is currently limited to US residents of 18 years and older.
 • You are the owner of the computer you use for this program.
 • The automated feedback program is offered to Windows Vista and Windows XP customers only.
 • The survey feedback program applies to all versions of Windows.
 • Microsoft, comScore, and MarketTools employees are not eligible to participate.
What exactly am I installing?
You will be installing a small application called "Windows Feedback Panel" on your PC. This application starts up automatically every time you log in to Windows and silently collects data about your PC's hardware and settings as well as some basic information about how you use your PC. The first time the application runs, it also collects information about how your files are organized.
Personally, I'm going to bite. I've just created a second partition for a clean install of XP that I'll install the tracking software on for three months and then delete that partition and continue to go about my merry way. I'll pop in on that XP partition from time to time to fulfil the requirements of occasionally accessing the internet and answering feedback surveys.

So ask yourself this: "Am I willing to sell my privacy to Microsoft for some free software?" If so, go ahead and sign up. If not, and understandably so, avoid this like the plague.

UPDATE!
If you plan to dual boot, that is to say you have two partitions (one with your personal OS and another with your WFP OS), I just found a great fix to hide and lock on partition from the other. So, what you do is log in to your WFP OS, follow the steps on this page: Hide and lock any drive(s) using regedit - ZomgStuff Forum and then your personal OS (and files) should be fully hidden and locked away from anyone trying to access them from your WFP OS.

man...this would be great to start out a custom built system....free vista ultimate and office ultimate....

now to just buy the parts to build said pc.....then keep everything simple on that (ie-> no online banking, torrent) etc. and 'sall good...

tag for later as well.........can MS see all the porn I collect?

Go right ahead I say.

Just hope my brother doesn't torrent anything. He freaking torrents pictures of motorcycles all day long. MS might think he is a music/program torrenter and freak out!

hahaha

Interesting and worth considering, particularly your idea of making a separate partition just for this program. Thanks, OP.

I'm biting down, hard. Make another partition for free vista and office? Done deal, I'll take another $220 if its a new sealed version like I got through club live. Thanks MS! Hopefully I get an email soon.

*EDIT* Is it only one free software? I think that's what it said on the shipping information page.

Does it record websites you go to also? And illegal downloads? >.>

I have quite a few gigs of not so legal music and movies...

How would they figure out what's legal and what's not? As far as downloads, that would be your fault if you did that while using this program.

They would definitely know what is and isn't legal. Besides, I'll just use this on my other computer. :)

The following list describes some examples of additional data collection our software performs:
 • Windows settings and usage, such as the number of user accounts on the computer and the view settings for Control Panel (that is, if you use the default Category view or the Classic view to display Control Panel).
 • Details about your computer hardware, such as processor type and speed (as well as the number of processors), system memory, video memory, and other hardware configuration information.
 • File and folder information, such as the number of files and folders located in common places (for example, in Documents).
 • Which programs you open (for example, which application you use to read your e-mail).
 • Changes you make to your hardware or software.
 • Problems you encounter, such as application crashes.
This type of data collection can provide Microsoft with useful data, such as:
 • Identification of top user problems; for example, how often does a computer crash or stop? How often do customers update Windows? How often are problems reported?
 • How customers use their computers; for example, how often do customers use their computers? How often do they connect to the Internet? How long do they stay connected?
 • How users store files on computers; for example, how much storage space do customers have on their computers? How much storage space is used? Where do customers store their files?
We do not intentionally collect sensitive information, such as the passwords on the user accounts, the contents of any of your personal files, the name or HTTP address of any of the websites you mark as Favorites, or what websites you visit.

So, if this is true, your files wont be searched, and M$ will not be enjoying your porn. I think i might bite on this.

Hmm is the Vista Ultimate the only one that comes on DVD? I guess the others will be given via download?

That was the way I got Office 2007 last year when they had that program where you "watch" a few different training modules and you got the software free.

I went in on it. Hopefully Mr. Gates doesn't come knocking at my door...without giving me enough time to prepare juicy cheeseburgers anyways.

same, im gonna do this in my non porn watching, non music downloading, word processing computer ;)
Please, do tell then.
Look at your files and you tell me if there's any way to tell. There isn't, unless you have some pre-release shit.

Like perhaps the name of the file starts with a release group, and has an .nfo extension?

If someone isn't smart enough to edit that, then they deserve what's coming to them.

How about looking for valid copies of Windows? Or known file sizes of cracked exe's? Or known file sizes of ripped movie releases? If you pirate, and think you are safe the YOU deserve what is coming to YOU.

Virtually NO ONE changes the names on NFO files. Try again if you'd like.

All in line with my point. IF you're going to take the time to find free stuff, take the extra couple of minutes to CYA.

Virtually NO ONE changes the names on NFO files. Try again if you'd like.

Criminals never are the smartest people, are they?

So, I have two partitions, right? "A" for personal belongings and "B" for WFP rubbish. I'm on "A" right now but I can still sort through the files on "B" by just going to My Computer. Is there any way I can lock "A" from being seen while on "B" and vice versa?

As far as dead, I do not know. I have heard other people say that the freebie is no longer showing up on the site. But that's like Microsoft to take down their freebies when they're getting too many hits. Give it a few days if it is gone and I bet it'll be back.

Is this even legit? Sounds a bit over reaching even for microsoft. So you have to install the software and register it over time for 3 months and they send your choice of XP or Vista Ultimate in the mail for free? (With completion of their writen survey of course, but if this is true. I'll most definitly do so. Sounds great but I want to see what I'm dealing with before I set down on the deal. If there are any program savy people out there that would be willing to analyze this software and finds out what it investigates that'd be great, and to devil driver, no it's not possible to use virtual pc as a "pc" in this instance. When they pry into your system virtual pc will alreadly be registered as one of their list of programs. If you have ever turned windows update on and just see what you'd be downloading, you'd know.

Also is there some sort of minimum activity that's requiered over the 3 months? I mean they should at least know that that same guy has been watching the same porn or whatever for the past 3 months. I wonder if they'd revoke your right to get your copy if you do so. Like GCO.

Do you have to automatically run the software on the CPU you are currently on? Or can I transfer it to somewhere else and then use it, otherwise I might hold back until I can get another CPU running.

Very zen. I'm installing it on a work PC.
