from DVD to mpeg

I'm looking to take a skit I did for a show from a DVD and turn it into a mpeg I can upload to youtube. I cannot find a program for and was wondering if any else knows of a free program that could do this. Someone in the crew was supposed to do it, but its been well over a month.

For DVD--->Xvid AVI, you could use Auto Gordian Knot.

Not sure about DVD--->MPEG though.

A DVD would already be in MPEG-2. You just need to extract the VOBs into more accessible files. There are tons of utilities out there, some free, some commercial. Most will let you try them out for a limited time or amount of video.

YouTube has gotten more open about what formats can be uploaded directly. The reason to convert to a newer codec is to have a much smaller file that uploads quicker with less chance of the connection bombing, in which case you have to start the upload all over.
