Sorry if this has been posted before...did a quick search but havent found anything (ive been away from cag for some time too...)

Just wanted to know what everyone's vote is on the possible top 5-6 games of the year thus far? I've holed myself in L4D2 gaming since its launch, so I'm way behind on current games...

What does your list look like?

Only have a 360, and don't play a ton of games, but here are the 2010 games I've played ranked in order. Really loved all 4 of them though.

Mass Effect 2
Halo: Reach
Alan Wake
Bioshock 2
 
Mass Effect 2.

No other real contenders exist, and I don't see anything close the rest of the year unless Fallout: New Vegas or WoW: Cataclysm surprise me more than I'm expecting.

If I had to name other good games this year though,

Bioshock 2
Monster Hunter Tri
 
Thus far Mass Effect 2 wins hands down.

Other contenders to the throne are
Starcraft II
God of War III
Red Dead Redemption
Halo: Reach
Alan Wake
Battlefield BC 2
 
My personal list of contenders so far in no particular order:

- Mass Effect 2
- Red Dead Redemption
- Alan Wake
- Mario Galaxy 2
- Dragon Quest IX

So far, just in terms of sheer playtime and enjoyment, I have to give it to DQIX. Still plenty of games to come this fall/winter though so we'll see. Though, I think it's starting to become pointless to pick just one GOTY these days.. with so many high quality games out there (almost too many, I can hardly keep up anymore).

Also, if my Wii hadn't died, Monster Hunter Tri would probably be #5 for me. But...since I lost 120 hours of progress, I knocked it down
 
I havent played ME2 but I'll still go with the crowd and say ME2 anyway.

From what I have played:

Red Dead Redemption
Heavy Rain
Lara Croft and The Guardian Of Light

There's a lot coming though so who knows. I made a list of what I think it will be come years end.

1. Splinter Cell Conviction
2. Alan Wake
3. Heavy Rain
4. Red Dead Redemption
5. Mass Effect 2
6. Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands

Nothing else is particularly good.
 
Honestly, thinking back to this year's releases, nothing really stood head and shoulders above the rest this year. I would probably say Red Dead Redemption is at the front with Heavy Rain in 2nd.
 
The most deserving: Mass Effect 2 and Red Dead Redemption.

The most likely to win every single award: Halo Reach and Call of Duty Black Ops. (they will win all VGA awards for sure)

100% this, this is unironically the best game I have played all year. The narrative, characters, game world, are unrivaled. The dated graphics and lame combat are beside the point.

Ultimately though I think my vote will go to Gran Turismo 5, there's just an unheard of amount of content and innovation there.

Yes, because the VGAs are the best awards in gaming. No exceptions.

Oh yea, and the invisible walls and randomly incorrect gravity. One of the worst parts of the game, easilly. You can fly to make it a little easier...

-Best "...from out of left field" game Just Cause 2 (runner-up: Bayonetta)
-Best Portable Game: Kindgom Hearts BBS (too soon?)
-Best "I wish more people liked this as much as I did" game: Lost Planet 2
-Best Downloadable game: Tie (Scott Pilgrim/Monsters Prob. Stole My Princess)
-The "that was fun but how did it take 5 friggin years to make!?" award: Alan Wake (runner-up: FFXIII)
-Game of the Year: Elder Scrolls Oblivion (game of the year, every year, forever and ever)
 
Bioshock 2 for me. Loved it.

Runner up: Super Mario Galaxy 2, Hot Shots Tennis

Alan Wake should be here next week so maybe my list will change. I also haven't played God of War III yet. Mass Effect 2 is OK - seems like a lot of the same to me though.

Yep. I have a large hate for the Haloz, but by using just current games out right now, I'm pretty sure I'm 90% right on what reviewers would choose.

I'm at work and have nothing to do, just in case you're wondering why I had so much time to type that up.
