Games on UMD vs. Downloaded question

I just picked up a PSP for the sole purpose of playing Star Ocean 2 on the go.  I bought the UMD for the game but I was wondering if I ripped it to the memory card if I'd be better off.  I have done CFW before but I'm wondering if the benefit is worth it.

I'm not looking to turn this thing into an emulation machine like I did last time, I find when I do that I spend more time tinkering with it than actually playing it.

On a related note, I really wish Squeenix would make the rest of their psp games available digitally.  Every other country does, I think.
