Gamestop - Changing preorder with the $50 trade in deal

I traded in 2 games to get the $50 trade in credit deal for L.A. Noir. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with canceling a preorder done with one of these trade in deals.

I was wanting to cancel the L.A. Noir preorder that I've already payed off and put it toward inFAMOUS 2 Hero Edition. I went into Gamestop to do this, but the guy working told me that if I traded it over I would only get back the extra $10 I put on L.A. Noir to pay it off.

Does the employee know what his talking about or should I take my chances and move the preorder over.
 
Pick the game up. Then return it unopened. I'm pretty sure you will get $59.99 + tax in store credit. Then put that towards the game you want.

Not a bad idea. If I do this I'll get to keep the preorder bonus as well.
