First post contains promo information & useful information and frequently asked questions. The second post is blank currently but is there for expansion or to revert back to the way things were. These trade-in values are really low!
While that may be true, if you combine the games with the right promotion they can work to your advantage. There are knowledgeable people in this thread that are normally willing to help.

Is there any way to look at what the previous values reported on a game?
You can search through this thread and previous ones to see what a game has been reported in the past. With the TIV Tracker you can sort by date and then go through the list of past updated values through that as well. Here are the previous GS TIV Threads: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13

Can I trade-in sealed games?
No. You might come across the rare GameStop that would let you do it, but they are going to open them anyway.


I don't want to get hassled about the values I post, how can I get the information out there?
If you do not feel comfortable or willing to put the values in the thread you have two options available. You can input them in the TIV tracker or you can send them to me via PM. Either way the database and these lists will be updated. Putting them into the TIV tracker does save me some time later on.

Do trade-ins have to have their original case, insert and manual?
No, however it will be YMMV on if they charge you a refurbish fee for them in that condition. Most GameStops wont charge a fee but there are some that charge for incomplete games.

Will they accept my game if it is really beat up?
YMMV. It really all depends upon the employee you get. Some will charge refurbish fees, some wont, some wont accept the game and others just take them without a second glance.

What are the refurb fees on games?
There appears to be set prices for set value ranges. We aren't 100% certain on the splits just yet. Here is what we have currently:
$0.25-$2 Value:
$0.75 Refurb Fee
$2.01-$4 Value: $1 Refurb Fee
$4.01-$7 Value: $2 Refurb Fee
$7.01-$10 Value: $3 Refurb Fee
$10.01 & Higher Value: $4 Refurb Fee
This information isn't guaranteed by any mean and we are still working on nailing it down.

What are the refurb fees on consoles?
They are listed in the hardware TIV section, highlight in red.


I have a Collector's/Limited/Special edition of a game, do I have to trade-in all of the extras?
No, but there are a handful of games that their variations have separate listings at GameStop: Madden 09 Anniversary Edition, Battlefield: Bad Company Gold Edition, and a few others.

Why didn't the percent bonus go for my accessory for a system that was included?
Unless stated otherwise, and they are rarely included, the bonuses never apply to accessories. Except the EDGE card of course.

I traded in a bunch of games for the "Trade X, get $X bonus" promo and it gave me the percentage bonus instead?
I can't give concretes on why this happens. GameStop computers are normally pretty good at giving you the better promo. In the case of a percentage bonus being run at the same time as a "Trade X, get $X" promo, things can get messy. The system appears to only give one promo on games per transaction so if you had a few games that you want to go to the percentage bonus and a stack for the "Trade X, Get $X" it will regularly apply the percentage to all of the games. Your best bet is to do all "Trade X, Get $X" games in one transaction on their own. The GameStop clerk may say that the system will figure it all out, tell them you want a separate transaction anyway. As always, check your receipt before you leave the store.


Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
YMMV. The official policy is no, but there are some GameStops that overlook that rule.

What all do I have to trade in for a console trade-in?
Xbox 360: Console Unit, power brick, A/V Cables, Controller (wired/wireless)
Wii: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cables, Wiimote, Nunchuck, Sensor Bar
Playstation 3: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller, USB Cable

Can I trade in a defective/broken console?
For the most part yes. If it powers on but doesn't play games, they will take the console as a refurb unit and put a refurb fee on the console. The refurb fee on the console will vary on the price of the console so those numbers will change. You are still required to trade in everything required listed in the question directly above. They will not, however, take RROD 360 consoles. There may be stores that still do it, but official policy is to not take them in.

What is the difference between PowerUp Rewards and PowerUp Rewards Pro?
The basic card is free and only allows you to acrew points when spending money. The Pro card costs $14.99 and is basically the same as the previous EDGE program.

How much does a PowerUp Rewards Pro subscription cost?
It costs $14.99 and is good for a year. It also comes with a 1-year subscription to Game Informer magazine.

What bonuses come with having an PowerUp Rewards Pro card?
You will get an extra 10% trade-in credit on the base value of the game, extra 10% off the purchase of pre-owned games and 10% off new strategy guides.

Does the Power Up Rewards Card give me a bonus on hardware trade-ins?
No. You will only get the bonus for games and accessories.

What if I want cash instead of credit, what do they deduct?
If you decide that you want cash instead of credit, they will take 20% off the base values and promos will not apply.

Does promo "....." have a minimum trade-in value?
If the promo has a minimum trade-in value requirement, it will be listed in the promo. If it isn't there, then there is no limit. However, as with all trades, they are subject to manager approval so the manager could have setup his own little rule-set requiring a minimum of whatever.

I used a Power Trade promo for a pre-order, can I cancel that pre-order and get the credit or move it to another game I want?
Yes on both accounts. However, if you do a bunch of the power trades and just straight drop the pre-order you could create some ill-will between yourself and the employees you cancel on. However, if you look at the wordings on promos, they can remove the bonus trade-in value if they decide to.

I just tried to use a promo that has a select list of games eligible, but they say my game isn't eligible anymore, what gives?
Basically they have the right to change the eligible games at any time. They tend to update these frequently so as to lock out any easy/cheap games. It's best to check the eligible list the day of your trade.

Can I stack two different trade-in promos?
No. The only thing that will stack with trade-ins is your EDGE card. Some will report success, but this requires a manual override and is very YMMV.

If I pay for an item using all credit on my card, do I have to pay sales tax?
This varies depending upon the state you live in.

My state doesn't charge sales tax on purchases made by credit, why is gamestop.com charging me tax?
It is just the way they have designed their system. The best theory we have seen is that since you are only inputting the number off of the back of the card, it isn't going to pick up the programming from the specially tagged EDGE cards. Some kind of programming that gets input from their system that wont show up when only inputting the number off the back of the card.

Great day today at GameStop trading these 6 in for a total of $67.30 credit after PUR bonus and 2 x $10 extra credit.

I used four coupons to buy some games while I was there. B2G1 from PUR signup on Midnight Club Los Angeles Complete Edition (360, $17.99), Luminous Arc 2 (DS, $17.99), Phantasy Star 0 (DS, $16.99). $5 off pre-owned coupons from steal of the week last week on each of these games: Hot Shots Golf Open Tee (PSP, $4.99), Killzone Liberation (PSP, $9.99), Generation of Chaos (PSP, $5.99). Everything I bought was complete in excellent condition and I only used $37.76 in credit for all of it.
 
You guys should check Best Buys TIV thread. I traded FF13 in for 11 after promos, as well as God of War 3 a few times and the Collection and they get 20 each at Best Buy.
 
Went to GameStop today to trade-in 6 games but they said there wasn't a trade-in promo (specifically the trade-3-get-$10-extra).

More likely than not, they are incompetent employees. You can have them scan all 6 games and the promo should automatically be applied by the system (of course, as long as each game has $2+ in value).
 
Guys, now that there's gonna be a "Wii Select" line coming in May, where games like Zelda: TP and Brawl will be 19.99, now might be the time to trade them in.

Man, I remember working at Gamecrazy a few years back and only giving $0.25 for this game. PS2 GTA games were traded in more than any other titles (except for Madden, I guess), so the stores weren't giving anything for these trades.

GTA San Andreas was $4. But, he couldn't take my copy since it was the orginal "Hot Coffee" verision. He then said I might be able to get more on Ebay since its a "collectors" item (I doubt that)

I'm also getting frustrated at the difference between the online and in-store prices on used games. I wish my buy 2 get 1 would work with online.

F:NV is bumped to $20 TIV at BB this week as well. Definitely worth checking out the Best buy thread to see some of the $20 or $30 values this week and since they do price matching and many locations sell Amazon GC's. Heck, Even Super Mario Galaxy 1 and NFS: Hot Pursuit are getting $30 TIV this week.

Just a quick notice. Some gamestops are halting PS3 trades for the time being. I know some of the gamestops in my area and surrounding cities are getting too many of the systems. Just call ahead and see if you are thinking about trading one in.

It's surprising that for a Rockstar title, LA Noire really hasn't had the insane publicity or hype as GTA (I get it's an original IP). There hasn't been that many previews, no one talking about it on podcasts... nothing, super quiet and it's so close to launch. Maybe a NDA, but it's so late now and NDAs this late usually mean there's some issue they're trying to hide.

I don't think it'll suck, but it's hard to tell right now. This game has been delayed for such a long time, hopefully it's just as good as their last offerings.

Shrug not much outside of GTA has been huge for Rockstar

Midnight clue series has been okay. RDD was good but not block buster. Bully was decent....

Heck what else did they have? Max Payne? I think it was a bit disappointing. Really they have GTA, RDD, and a bunch of B level games.
 
I see ads for LA Noire every other commercial break. I also see ti all the time on Gamestop Circuit TV when Im in there. Also, 4chan's /v/ is slightly hyped about it so it is getting some sort of publicity.

Keep in mind that rockstar doesnt really publicly advertise their games like GTA because of their nature.

Mario Kart WIi - $25
NASCAR the Game 2011 PS3 - $20. (note it's trading for $30 at BB and Amazon)

Traded in NASCAR and got 25% bonus towards LA Noir + 10% for $27 so I'm ok with that.
 
You know it's strange...

Gamestop has its bad habits, such as gutting new games, but I have to say, thus far, I have had next to no issues with the online portion. The only real negative for me is that I'm not 100% guaranteed to get the game(s) complete... but it is offset by the fact that online prices for the more expensive titles are less than B&M, and are likely out of stock in my area.

Not only that, if I have any minor issues, such as my edge card not working or an active coupon not working for no reason, I can e-mail customer support and within 24 hours get a compensation.

I'd like to say Gamestop.com is perfect, and you know it could be, if they brought back that full-package guarantee they had a while back for current-gen games.

Also, now I'm starting to worry about my Brawl and Kart Wii trade-ins. Nintendo officially announced the Nintendo Selects line that will launch in May 15th... but they didn't announce Brawl, or a seperate Mario Kart Wii. I get the feeling Kart Wii may still sell for $50... making my trade-in a HUGE loss.

Not so much concerned with Brawl though, just gotta wait longer. I can always play 64 or Melee in the meantime.

Holy s**t! Thanks for the heads up on New Vegas!! I got an $8 copy and can turn that into an extra $12 ;)
 
So I went in to Gamestop the other day to trade in a few games to get enough store credit (about $100 in addition to the $150 on my card) to finally pay for a 3DS. I ended up going to the new one that they just opened in town, and I went in, gave them my PowerUp Rewards Pro and they did the trade and everything, ended up with enough credit for the 3DS, and I was good. Then, as I'm leaving the store, I check the receipt and realize that my PowerUp Pro bonus wasn't applied to my trade-in, so I go back in the store and ask the cashier about it, and he said that they were having computer problems and that I should call the number about it because he didn't know what to do at that point, with the store being new and all.

Of course, I get home and check the PURP site yesterday and what do I see? I don't see any extra points for trading in $100 games or for buying a 3DS, but instead I see a fucking record of a sales transaction where I pre-ordered Gears of War 3 that didn't happen. fucking stupid employee didn't apply my trade-in bonus and instead of scanning my reward card he decided to use my card to pad his fucking pre-orders.

Gonna call and get this sorted out today. The employees can be big douches, that's fine, I can just give them bad surveys...but use my card to give yourself pre-orders? fuck you.

Then post the exact amount that you got for it.

This list isn't some automatic pull from a gamestop system. It relies on the community submitting the latest values. Rather than questioning the values on the list, post what you got in trade and help everyone else.

Pretty sure bgame did post. I'm known to make post errors like that, I highlight the old number and then type the new. Sometimes the highlight part I forget or I click off. Not a big deal. Will fix when I'm not stuck using my iPhone as primary Internet. Damn customers and their problems.

Apology accepted. :D I was just about to get annoyed because I was only jokingly pointing out the error that I inadvertently spotted while checking out other trade in values. I didn't have my receipt from two days before that stapled to my pants at the time. lol

Having said that I did just check my records and I received 5.00 (8.84 with PUR and bonus) on 5/1/2011.


I also did a few yesterday that I have to post the values for but I forgot my damn receipts at home. I can tell you from memory:
