First post contains promo information & useful information and frequently asked questions. The second post is blank currently but is there for expansion or to revert back to the way things were. These trade-in values are really low!
While that may be true, if you combine the games with the right promotion they can work to your advantage. There are knowledgeable people in this thread that are normally willing to help.

Is there any way to look at what the previous values reported on a game?
You can search through this thread and previous ones to see what a game has been reported in the past. With the TIV Tracker you can sort by date and then go through the list of past updated values through that as well. Here are the previous GS TIV Threads: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13

Can I trade-in sealed games?
No. You might come across the rare GameStop that would let you do it, but they are going to open them anyway.


I don't want to get hassled about the values I post, how can I get the information out there?
If you do not feel comfortable or willing to put the values in the thread you have two options available. You can input them in the TIV tracker or you can send them to me via PM. Either way the database and these lists will be updated. Putting them into the TIV tracker does save me some time later on.

Do trade-ins have to have their original case, insert and manual?
No, however it will be YMMV on if they charge you a refurbish fee for them in that condition. Most GameStops wont charge a fee but there are some that charge for incomplete games.

Will they accept my game if it is really beat up?
YMMV. It really all depends upon the employee you get. Some will charge refurbish fees, some wont, some wont accept the game and others just take them without a second glance.

What are the refurb fees on games?
There appears to be set prices for set value ranges. We aren't 100% certain on the splits just yet. Here is what we have currently:
$0.25-$2 Value:
$0.75 Refurb Fee
$2.01-$4 Value: $1 Refurb Fee
$4.01-$7 Value: $2 Refurb Fee
$7.01-$10 Value: $3 Refurb Fee
$10.01 & Higher Value: $4 Refurb Fee
This information isn't guaranteed by any mean and we are still working on nailing it down.

What are the refurb fees on consoles?
They are listed in the hardware TIV section, highlight in red.


I have a Collector's/Limited/Special edition of a game, do I have to trade-in all of the extras?
No, but there are a handful of games that their variations have separate listings at GameStop: Madden 09 Anniversary Edition, Battlefield: Bad Company Gold Edition, and a few others.

Why didn't the percent bonus go for my accessory for a system that was included?
Unless stated otherwise, and they are rarely included, the bonuses never apply to accessories. Except the EDGE card of course.

I traded in a bunch of games for the "Trade X, get $X bonus" promo and it gave me the percentage bonus instead?
I can't give concretes on why this happens. GameStop computers are normally pretty good at giving you the better promo. In the case of a percentage bonus being run at the same time as a "Trade X, get $X" promo, things can get messy. The system appears to only give one promo on games per transaction so if you had a few games that you want to go to the percentage bonus and a stack for the "Trade X, Get $X" it will regularly apply the percentage to all of the games. Your best bet is to do all "Trade X, Get $X" games in one transaction on their own. The GameStop clerk may say that the system will figure it all out, tell them you want a separate transaction anyway. As always, check your receipt before you leave the store.


Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
YMMV. The official policy is no, but there are some GameStops that overlook that rule.

What all do I have to trade in for a console trade-in?
Xbox 360: Console Unit, power brick, A/V Cables, Controller (wired/wireless)
Wii: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cables, Wiimote, Nunchuck, Sensor Bar

Can I trade in a defective/broken console?
For the most part yes. If it powers on but doesn't play games, they will take the console as a refurb unit and put a refurb fee on the console. The refurb fee on the console will vary on the price of the console so those numbers will change. You are still required to trade in everything required listed in the question directly above. They will not, however, take RROD 360 consoles. There may be stores that still do it, but official policy is to not take them in.

What is the difference between PowerUp Rewards and PowerUp Rewards Pro?
The basic card is free and only allows you to acrew points when spending money. The Pro card costs $14.99 and is basically the same as the previous EDGE program.

How much does a PowerUp Rewards Pro subscription cost?
It costs $14.99 and is good for a year. It also comes with a 1-year subscription to Game Informer magazine.

What bonuses come with having an PowerUp Rewards Pro card?
You will get an extra 10% trade-in credit on the base value of the game, extra 10% off the purchase of pre-owned games and 10% off new strategy guides.

Does the Power Up Rewards Card give me a bonus on hardware trade-ins?
No. You will only get the bonus for games and accessories.

What if I want cash instead of credit, what do they deduct?
If you decide that you want cash instead of credit, they will take 20% off the base values and promos will not apply.

Does promo "....." have a minimum trade-in value?
If the promo has a minimum trade-in value requirement, it will be listed in the promo. If it isn't there, then there is no limit. However, as with all trades, they are subject to manager approval so the manager could have setup his own little rule-set requiring a minimum of whatever.

I used a Power Trade promo for a pre-order, can I cancel that pre-order and get the credit or move it to another game I want?
Yes on both accounts. However, if you do a bunch of the power trades and just straight drop the pre-order you could create some ill-will between yourself and the employees you cancel on. However, if you look at the wordings on promos, they can remove the bonus trade-in value if they decide to.

I just tried to use a promo that has a select list of games eligible, but they say my game isn't eligible anymore, what gives?
Basically they have the right to change the eligible games at any time. They tend to update these frequently so as to lock out any easy/cheap games. It's best to check the eligible list the day of your trade.

Can I stack two different trade-in promos?
No. The only thing that will stack with trade-ins is your EDGE card. Some will report success, but this requires a manual override and is very YMMV.

If I pay for an item using all credit on my card, do I have to pay sales tax?
This varies depending upon the state you live in.

My state doesn't charge sales tax on purchases made by credit, why is gamestop.com charging me tax?
It is just the way they have designed their system. The best theory we have seen is that since you are only inputting the number off of the back of the card, it isn't going to pick up the programming from the specially tagged EDGE cards. Some kind of programming that gets input from their system that wont show up when only inputting the number off the back of the card.

Don't buy the PUR 50% coupon. I saw a stack of those 40% coupons next to the register and assume they are free (they never offered me one). Also as usual the 50% coupon doesn't work. The 3/$10 offer trumped it. I love that "the computer gives you the best deal" disclaimer they always give you. The manager had to override it , and he shorted me in his calculation. That's the last time I buy one of those. The same thing happened with the last PUR 50% coupon for portal2/MK.

I got a few questions

does the 50% towards LA Noir stack with the 10% from the PUR card?

is the value for DJ Hero (original) without the turntable? I just want to trade the game in.

Does anyone know if TNA Impact: Cross The Line for Nintendo DS will net at least $2? I don't see it listed = /

Also I bought World At War used from them awhile back I beat it can I trade it back to them for the full $9 value in the same case (its their custom print out case)?
 
I used the extra 50% coupon today towards the pre order and when I did the math at home I realized I only got 33.3% extra per game as well as the regular 10%. Anyone else have this happen?

Thinking about using the PSN Welcome back program to grab inFAMOUS and Little Big Planet for free, then trading in my retail copies. But I'm sure the TIVs for those are gonna plummet. Gonna have to do it in a timely fashion...
 
Went to Gamestop today with the powerup rewards offer of 50% extra trade in against LA Noire you can get with 1000 points. The coupon wasnt ringing correctly and the clerk had a note from corporate to manually adjust trade in values for the coupon. Thing is it was giving an extra 25% on top of the 50%. YMMV, but I got these trade in values below after coupon and rewards added:

Marvel VS. Capcom 3 PS3 = 46.57
Portal 2 PS3 = 46.57

Not bad considering I paid 39.99 for portal 2 last month :applause:

I had the same thought, which is why I traded in my copy of Infamous today. The TIV is still $12.00. I also trade in:

backup your lbp profile data and all the dlc from goty will transfer to the lbp psn version (and lbp2).
i tried playing those 18 community goty bonus levels with my wife, and damn, those are hard. those dont transfer over, but you could always find any of those levels in the community planet anyway.

And before anyone says something.... it wasn't towards LA Noire. It was just a trade in coupon. I will take a picture of it after I get home from work tonight.

I've looked around a bit and haven't seen this question asked anywhere, so forgive me if it has.

For some reason, trading in accessories never really crossed my mind until recently, when I traded in a Dual Shock 3 controller because of the +50% bonus they're currently running.

So that said, here are my questions. I never thought about cables, but I've seen some people here posting trade in values for them. Are these cables console or brand-specific? Or do they have to be a certain length? It seems as though they pay a good amount for HDMI, a/v, and a/c cables... much more than they can be even purchased for new if you look in the right place. So could I just buy a bunch of cheap, generic-branded HDMI, a/v, ethernet, and a/c cables on ebay and toss one or two in with every trade-in I make and score some extra credit?

That's how IAmTheCheapestGamer got banned from gamestop... don't get him started ;) . Bought a box of generic HDMI on ebay and flipped a ton of them. I doubt they'd care on a small scale though, as long as they accept em you're in the clear.
 
Interesting. Yeah, I mean, I have nearly a dozen Gamestops within a half hour driving distance to my house, so it's easy for me to rotate where I trade in. I mean, if I can get an HDMI cable shipped to my house for under $2 and Gamestop will give me twice that much for it, there's no reason not to throw one in on each trade I make. I just wasn't sure if it was limited to certain brands or had to be original ones that came with the console.

Ya I had the same thing happen! It was AWESOME. I got more than what I paid for most of the games.

I did the math and I know what is happening. So you basically get a little more than double the original value because of the way the computer stacks the coupons. Basically a giant corporation doesn't know how to program shit. It appears the POWERUP REWARDS hand doesn't know what the Gamestop hand is doing and vice-versa.

The extra 25% promo (which predated the new coupon as a storewide special towards purchase of select new games) and the PUR 10% promo should be calculated off the original TIV of $15 but instead are both tabulated from the revised value of $22.50. It is a glitch but a big one for a company like that. I would imagine it would be remedied soon if they can learn how to work a computer. It is the proverbial bank error in your favor from Monopoly. Here is the breakdown using Battlefield Bad Company 2 which is valued at $15 trade in:

(15 X 1.5) X (.1 + .25) = 30.375 or $30.37

NOW the INTERESTING PART of this IS that the Gamestop computer rounds DOWN to the nearest penny when dealing with the digit "5" instead of UP. This is a neat little real world illustration of the premise behind "Office Space." Furthermore it really just shows how that Gamestop will literally fuck you out of EVERY LAST PENNY. General decorum and rules dictate you should round up in the event of this kind of "tie of 5" thus giving me $30.38.

I bet Gamestop computers are Skynet sleeper agents stockpiling massive amounts of money one half penny at a time until they have enough wealth to take over the world and bring about Judgement Day.

Just don't do too many in one day, even if you go to different locations it will prompt a red flag on your account for suspicious activity if you show turning in a bunch of HDMI cables in a day, whether you went to different locations or not. Unless you use a different name at each location.

truth. CAGs have been banned for this. It doesn't matter if its all in one day or not, employees can easily see your purchase/trade history now. Its not worth the attempt.

looks like you got 2 promotions on those 3 games (trade 3 get 10 as well as 50%...must be a manual override mistake on part of the clerk)

It's a coupon you have to purchase with your power up rewards points (1000 points) .. it is not free.
 
Has anyone traded in MLB 11: The Show and MotorStorm: Apocalypse? I don't see the TIVs listed in the database.
 
So is it strictly trade 3 games get 10 dollars extra? What happens if you add a 4th game? would it still be the 4 games credit + 10 dollar extra? or does it HAVE to be 3 games...

multiples of 3... 3 get $10 extra, 6 get $20 extra, 9 get $30 extra and so on and so on... but the regular trade-in-value must be $2 of more for each game.

Here is the breakdown using Battlefield Bad Company 2 which is valued at $15 trade in:

(15 X 1.5) X (.1 + .25) = 30.375 or $30.37

.1 = PUR rewards
.25 = storewide 25% deal
1.5 = 50% coupon.

Probably because it is one of the freebee games on PSN, so a lot of people are trading it in while they can.

I'm kinda debating what to do myself. I have some Wii games I want to trade in to buy a PS3, but I only have two games that I really want to trade right now (Kirby's Epic Yarn and Disney Epic Mickey). Do I buy the 50% bonus coupon, or do I trade in some thing I'm not ready to trade yet (main candidate is Gunblade NY/LA Machineguns) to get the $10 bonus? Do I try to see if they both still stack?

they didn't stack for me, just the coupon. I wasn't going to use it, but the 40% coupon doesn't include wii, and I wanted to trade mine in before the values tank

everyone is unloading infamous and littlebigplanet. sony is offering to give every ps3 user those games for free. the tiv wont be going up, that's for sure ;)
but then again infamous 2/littlebigplanet 2, idk
