First post contains promo information & useful information and frequently asked questions. The second post is blank currently but is there for expansion or to revert back to the way things were. Third post has the 360/Wii/PS3 values. Fourth post has the PS2/GC values. Fifth post has DS/PSP values. Sixth post has hardware/accessory values for all systems.

These trade-in values are really low!
While that may be true, if you combine the games with the right promotion they can work to your advantage. There are knowledgeable people in this thread that are normally willing to help.

Is there any way to look at what the previous values reported on a game?
You can search through this thread and previous ones to see what a game has been reported in the past. With the TIV Tracker you can sort by date and then go through the list of past updated values through that as well. Here are the previous GS TIV Threads: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13

Can I trade-in sealed games?
No. You might come across the rare GameStop that would let you do it, but they are going to open them anyway.


I don't want to get hassled about the values I post, how can I get the information out there?
If you do not feel comfortable or willing to put the values in the thread you have two options available. You can input them in the TIV tracker or you can send them to me via PM. Either way the database and these lists will be updated. Putting them into the TIV tracker does save me some time later on.

Do trade-ins have to have their original case, insert and manual?
No, however it will be YMMV on if they charge you a refurbish fee for them in that condition. Most GameStops wont charge a fee but there are some that charge for incomplete games.

Will they accept my game if it is really beat up?
YMMV. It really all depends upon the employee you get. Some will charge refurbish fees, some wont, some wont accept the game and others just take them without a second glance.

What are the refurb fees on games?
There appears to be set prices for set value ranges. We aren't 100% certain on the splits just yet. Here is what we have currently:
$0.25-$2 Value:
$0.75 Refurb Fee
$2.01-$4 Value: $1 Refurb Fee
$4.01-$7 Value: $2 Refurb Fee
$7.01-$10 Value: $3 Refurb Fee
$10.01 & Higher Value: $4 Refurb Fee
This information isn't guaranteed by any mean and we are still working on nailing it down.

What are the refurb fees on consoles?
They are listed in the hardware TIV section, highlight in red.


I have a Collector's/Limited/Special edition of a game, do I have to trade-in all of the extras?
No, but there are a handful of games that their variations have separate listings at GameStop: Madden 09 Anniversary Edition, Battlefield: Bad Company Gold Edition, and a few others.

Why didn't the percent bonus go for my accessory for a system that was included?
Unless stated otherwise, and they are rarely included, the bonuses never apply to accessories. Except the EDGE card of course.

I traded in a bunch of games for the "Trade X, get $X bonus" promo and it gave me the percentage bonus instead?
I can't give concretes on why this happens. GameStop computers are normally pretty good at giving you the better promo. In the case of a percentage bonus being run at the same time as a "Trade X, get $X" promo, things can get messy. The system appears to only give one promo on games per transaction so if you had a few games that you want to go to the percentage bonus and a stack for the "Trade X, Get $X" it will regularly apply the percentage to all of the games. Your best bet is to do all "Trade X, Get $X" games in one transaction on their own. The GameStop clerk may say that the system will figure it all out, tell them you want a separate transaction anyway. As always, check your receipt before you leave the store.


Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
YMMV. The official policy is no, but there are some GameStops that overlook that rule.

What all do I have to trade in for a console trade-in?
Xbox 360: Console Unit, power brick, A/V Cables, Controller (wired/wireless)
Wii: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cables, Wiimote, Nunchuck, Sensor Bar
Playstation 3: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller, USB Cable
Playstation 2: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller (Must be a DualShock2)
*Fat unit requires either back cover or network adapter*
GameCube: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller
PSP: Handheld, A/C Adapter
Nintendo DS/DSLite/DSi: Handheld, A/C Adapter, Stylus

Can I trade in a defective/broken console?
For the most part yes. If it powers on but doesn't play games, they will take the console as a refurb unit and put a refurb fee on the console. The refurb fee on the console will vary on the price of the console so those numbers will change. You are still required to trade in everything required listed in the question directly above. They will not, however, take RROD 360 consoles. There may be stores that still do it, but official policy is to not take them in.

What is the difference between PowerUp Rewards and PowerUp Rewards Pro?
The basic card is free and only allows you to acrew points when spending money. The Pro card costs $14.99 and is basically the same as the previous EDGE program.

How much does a PowerUp Rewards Pro subscription cost?
It costs $14.99 and is good for a year. It also comes with a 1-year subscription to Game Informer magazine.

What bonuses come with having an PowerUp Rewards Pro card?
You will get an extra 10% trade-in credit on the base value of the game, extra 10% off the purchase of pre-owned games and 10% off new strategy guides.

Does the Power Up Rewards Card give me a bonus on hardware trade-ins?
No. You will only get the bonus for games and accessories.

What if I want cash instead of credit, what do they deduct?
If you decide that you want cash instead of credit, they will take 20% off the base values and promos will not apply.

Does promo "....." have a minimum trade-in value?
If the promo has a minimum trade-in value requirement, it will be listed in the promo. If it isn't there, then there is no limit. However, as with all trades, they are subject to manager approval so the manager could have setup his own little rule-set requiring a minimum of whatever.

I used a Power Trade promo for a pre-order, can I cancel that pre-order and get the credit or move it to another game I want?
Yes on both accounts. However, if you do a bunch of the power trades and just straight drop the pre-order you could create some ill-will between yourself and the employees you cancel on. However, if you look at the wordings on promos, they can remove the bonus trade-in value if they decide to.

I just tried to use a promo that has a select list of games eligible, but they say my game isn't eligible anymore, what gives?
Basically they have the right to change the eligible games at any time. They tend to update these frequently so as to lock out any easy/cheap games. It's best to check the eligible list the day of your trade.

Can I stack two different trade-in promos?
No. The only thing that will stack with trade-ins is your EDGE card. Some will report success, but this requires a manual override and is very YMMV.

If I pay for an item using all credit on my card, do I have to pay sales tax?
This varies depending upon the state you live in.

My state doesn't charge sales tax on purchases made by credit, why is gamestop.com charging me tax?
It is just the way they have designed their system. The best theory we have seen is that since you are only inputting the number off of the back of the card, it isn't going to pick up the programming from the specially tagged EDGE cards. Some kind of programming that gets input from their system that wont show up when only inputting the number off the back of the card.

He did it automatically. I had no intention of asking, purely because I figured it was a long shot. After he scanned the coupon and applied the bonus, he said I'd also get the extra $10 since I traded in 3 games.

Of course, I beat Portal 2 one day later than I wanted to, and it's value drops $3. Always happens to me...

Still on the fence about trading LA Noire in for $37.50 while I can. Hoping it'll hit $40 point soon enough and will come with the GS DLC (cause I know that'll cost more than $2.50+ tax on XBLM, got the Walmart case already for free).

Im just gonna keep mine a bit longer personally. Im perfectly on track to Platinum it currently, but wouldnt be able to finish before closing tommorow

Yea, I agree about Portal. Although personally I wouldn't trade it in at all. It's the kind of game that I would want to play through again in a few months, even if I know the solutions to all the puzzles.
 
If there's trophies for Portal DLC, I'll gamefly a copy. If not, I'll play my Steam copy. PS3 owners really don't have much reason to keep it. I essentially paid $5 for the Steam version, which is fine by me.

I generally never trade-in games unless I'm going to rebuy them later/already have a copy, but I would especially hang onto Portal 2 for the same reasons. Having said that I can see how the game's not everyone's cup of tea/doesn't have enough replay value to have them keep it, so I'm not going to think anyone silly for trading it while they can for a high value aside from the free DLC coming out (which is bound to be rather good, I've read, I copypastad the info from the Wiki earlier in this or the other GS topic).

Being a 360 owner, I guess that might influence my decision to keep it.

It is actually quite good, but it did have an easier time of finding the game before the recent downtime. I don't know any of the details of what happened but I do have a theory based on what I've seen since it came back up. It looks like some data in one or more tables of the games database got corrupted. There are numerous games that I know I've put values in before the recent tracker downtime, that no longer had values listed. Also, it looks like the search keywords for games was messed up as well. You have to be more specific in the search than previously. It's at about the same level it was when it was first put in place, where you didn't have to exactly name the game, but be very damn close.

I've dealt with that page so much that I've always stuck to first part of name plus the system at the end like "dora saves wii " and it'll give back the 3 or 4 results. I always put a space at the end of the system designation so it actually uses that as a search item. If you don't hit the space it doesn't always seem to narrow it down properly.
 
Sons of bitches. I call Lamestop yesterday to see how much Dragon Age 2 was trade in value 22 bucks. Not bad, but not worth it, then I get a 40% off coupon

Well I go TODAY. And not only.
1.) It's down to 14 (I notice now how there "COUPONS" are bullshit)
2.) The coupon is only usable by pro members.
3.) THe idiot gives me ANOTHER powerup reward cared with my new balance on it, and the 3 games i traded in aren't on my actual powerup account now!

So is my card lost? Probably. I'm off to GS tonight after work to bitch and get it my way.

Does anyone know if I'll get any grief if I try to trade in a copy of FO:NV (PS3) along with a FO:NV (360)? I know they get anal about not trading in the same game.
 
I used the coupon today. It only registered after the guy scanned it a second time. After the first time, only 3/$10 registered and he told me the coupon was entered. I only knew it hadn't because I had figured out before hand what a few games would be worth with the coupon.

Nah...I'm pretty sure they do it on purpose. It's like how they don't tell you up front they applied a refurb fee (at least, at the ones near me they don't), so you don't find out until after you look at the receipt. I stopped trading in things there as often after they gave me a refurb fee while trading in a copy of Mass Effect in the same condition I bought it from them two months before. Now I check the bottom of any used disc I buy from them before I leave the store...

That happened to me the first time to me today. I actually got more than I was expecting so I didn't even notice the $3 he took off til I looked at my receipt to post base values.

They could at least have the courtesy tell you about it instead of the slight of hand move to squeeze a few more bucks from your wallet.
 
I got it from the B2G1 sale at roughly $25 bucks. ($35 preowned x 3, -10% PUR, +tax and shipping).

It's a quick game I beat in a couple days of on-and-off playing, much like the original. It's fun, but I was hoping for a lot more in a full-price standalone game. Now that I've beaten the story, there's not $30 worth of game left, so I traded it in to get my profit. Really, I'm annoyed I didn't get $34.50 for it, but $30 is still about the best I could get. I have dozens of other games to play, I'm not going to sit on a game worth $30 just because some free DLC may keep me occupied for a couple hours.

Sheesh. Some of your GameStops are really underhanded. At least most of the ones I visit first show me values on the little screen, they do ask if I'm cool with what they're offering, then we move on from there. Some stores even still first ask if I want cash or credit! (Not sure if too many people go for cash anymore since the values are absolutely horrible and you miss out on the bonus deals.)
 
The gamestop I go to I only go when the manager isn't there because he's a major dick the rest of the guys really don't care and don't bother even checking the discs half the time.

Same here. All of the GameStops in my area do that. And even if they didn't, I would never accept the money/credit before asking how much it would be.
 
Went to a GS 2 days ago one of them wanted to charge me refurb fee on 2 games I then left. Guy goes to me you should learn to take better care of your games. I was going to slap that schmuck upside the head but resisted because he had gotten nowhere in life worked at a now-closed blockbuster and now is working at gamestop. Went to a different BB they charged me refurb one but didnt tell me but I saw on the screen.

I have a few other GS that i haven't had a problem with regarding this but I went to trade something in at one of these and the guy goes you have to pre-order to get the "50%" credit which was in actuality 3-4-10 deal for 6 games. He manually takes off $24(including pur). I was wth I was telling him it's the 3-4-10 deal, I say show me the flyer. He goes it ended last week, I m pretty sure. I go no its still on and it's working properly. He then attempts to find the flyer but he doesn't have any so he goes ok, if you say it is then ill give it to you.
This one just goes to show how uninformative/schemey/rude employees can be.
 
Just a Q to clarify: The FAQ says games of "less than $2" are excluded on the current 3/$10 deal. Am I correct, then, in assuming that games at exactly $2 TIV qualify for the 3/$10 deal?

Yes, if you really wanna squeeze the most profit out of this.

Gonna echo what Nas said, I was just about to say "You could have gotten your game in a shitty condition to begin with like from GS.com for example*." and it's more that they don't mention the refurb. fee, rather than the actual fee. I've yet to have to incur one of these fees though.

I would just talk to a B+M GS and have them reissue you a card, but bring proof of identity/your tiny PUR card.
