First post contains promo information & useful information and frequently asked questions. The second post is blank currently but is there for expansion or to revert back to the way things were. These trade-in values are really low!
While that may be true, if you combine the games with the right promotion they can work to your advantage. There are knowledgeable people in this thread that are normally willing to help.

Is there any way to look at what the previous values reported on a game?
You can search through this thread and previous ones to see what a game has been reported in the past. With the TIV Tracker you can sort by date and then go through the list of past updated values through that as well. Here are the previous GS TIV Threads: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13

Can I trade-in sealed games?
No. You might come across the rare GameStop that would let you do it, but they are going to open them anyway.


I don't want to get hassled about the values I post, how can I get the information out there?
If you do not feel comfortable or willing to put the values in the thread you have two options available. You can input them in the TIV tracker or you can send them to me via PM. Either way the database and these lists will be updated. Putting them into the TIV tracker does save me some time later on.

Do trade-ins have to have their original case, insert and manual?
No, however it will be YMMV on if they charge you a refurbish fee for them in that condition. Most GameStops wont charge a fee but there are some that charge for incomplete games.

Will they accept my game if it is really beat up?
YMMV. It really all depends upon the employee you get. Some will charge refurbish fees, some wont, some wont accept the game and others just take them without a second glance.

What are the refurb fees on games?
There appears to be set prices for set value ranges. We aren't 100% certain on the splits just yet. Here is what we have currently:
$0.25-$2 Value:
$0.75 Refurb Fee
$2.01-$4 Value: $1 Refurb Fee
$4.01-$7 Value: $2 Refurb Fee
$7.01-$10 Value: $3 Refurb Fee
$10.01 & Higher Value: $4 Refurb Fee
This information isn't guaranteed by any mean and we are still working on nailing it down.

What are the refurb fees on consoles?
They are listed in the hardware TIV section, highlight in red.


I have a Collector's/Limited/Special edition of a game, do I have to trade-in all of the extras?
No, but there are a handful of games that their variations have separate listings at GameStop: Madden 09 Anniversary Edition, Battlefield: Bad Company Gold Edition, and a few others.

Why didn't the percent bonus go for my accessory for a system that was included?
Unless stated otherwise, and they are rarely included, the bonuses never apply to accessories. Except the EDGE card of course.

I traded in a bunch of games for the "Trade X, get $X bonus" promo and it gave me the percentage bonus instead?
I can't give concretes on why this happens. GameStop computers are normally pretty good at giving you the better promo. In the case of a percentage bonus being run at the same time as a "Trade X, get $X" promo, things can get messy. The system appears to only give one promo on games per transaction so if you had a few games that you want to go to the percentage bonus and a stack for the "Trade X, Get $X" it will regularly apply the percentage to all of the games. Your best bet is to do all "Trade X, Get $X" games in one transaction on their own. The GameStop clerk may say that the system will figure it all out, tell them you want a separate transaction anyway. As always, check your receipt before you leave the store.


Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
YMMV. The official policy is no, but there are some GameStops that overlook that rule.

What all do I have to trade in for a console trade-in?
Xbox 360: Console Unit, power brick, A/V Cables, Controller (wired/wireless)
Wii: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cables, Wiimote, Nunchuck, Sensor Bar
Playstation 3: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller, USB Cable
Playstation 2: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller (Must be a DualShock2)
*Fat unit requires either back cover or network adapter*
GameCube: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller

Can I trade in a defective/broken console?
For the most part yes. If it powers on but doesn't play games, they will take the console as a refurb unit and put a refurb fee on the console. The refurb fee on the console will vary on the price of the console so those numbers will change. You are still required to trade in everything required listed in the question directly above. They will not, however, take RROD 360 consoles. There may be stores that still do it, but official policy is to not take them in.

What is the difference between PowerUp Rewards and PowerUp Rewards Pro?
The basic card is free and only allows you to acrew points when spending money. The Pro card costs $14.99 and is basically the same as the previous EDGE program.

How much does a PowerUp Rewards Pro subscription cost?
It costs $14.99 and is good for a year. It also comes with a 1-year subscription to Game Informer magazine.

What bonuses come with having an PowerUp Rewards Pro card?
You will get an extra 10% trade-in credit on the base value of the game, extra 10% off the purchase of pre-owned games and 10% off new strategy guides.

Does the Power Up Rewards Card give me a bonus on hardware trade-ins?
No. You will only get the bonus for games and accessories.

What if I want cash instead of credit, what do they deduct?
If you decide that you want cash instead of credit, they will take 20% off the base values and promos will not apply.

Does promo "....." have a minimum trade-in value?
If the promo has a minimum trade-in value requirement, it will be listed in the promo. If it isn't there, then there is no limit. However, as with all trades, they are subject to manager approval so the manager could have setup his own little rule-set requiring a minimum of whatever.

I used a Power Trade promo for a pre-order, can I cancel that pre-order and get the credit or move it to another game I want?
Yes on both accounts. However, if you do a bunch of the power trades and just straight drop the pre-order you could create some ill-will between yourself and the employees you cancel on. However, if you look at the wordings on promos, they can remove the bonus trade-in value if they decide to.

I just tried to use a promo that has a select list of games eligible, but they say my game isn't eligible anymore, what gives?
Basically they have the right to change the eligible games at any time. They tend to update these frequently so as to lock out any easy/cheap games. It's best to check the eligible list the day of your trade.

Can I stack two different trade-in promos?
No. The only thing that will stack with trade-ins is your EDGE card. Some will report success, but this requires a manual override and is very YMMV.

If I pay for an item using all credit on my card, do I have to pay sales tax?
This varies depending upon the state you live in.

My state doesn't charge sales tax on purchases made by credit, why is gamestop.com charging me tax?
It is just the way they have designed their system. The best theory we have seen is that since you are only inputting the number off of the back of the card, it isn't going to pick up the programming from the specially tagged EDGE cards. Some kind of programming that gets input from their system that wont show up when only inputting the number off the back of the card.

They will. They always let you bank the extra. The computer will do it automatically. I traded in 2 games and bought 1 used, and they let me bank the extra $30 I had left. They like to make it seem like they won't, but they will. If not, just say you changed your mind and leave. I'm just tired of their "I don't have any more 40% coupons" bullshit. You shouldn't have handed them out or thrown them away like a dumb ass. I might try bringing in my own printed out or on my ipod touch, just to see what they say. I like messing with those guys. When they hassle you about getting a preorder, just say you have one already. I like to make them think I am crazy excited about it too. I wouldn't preorder with them because I don't want to find out how hard it is to get it cancelled.

1.2x = 10
x = 8.333333

So i think if your base value of your 3 games total is under $25, the trade 3 for extra $10 would be better deal. If your base vale of your 3 games total is over $25, the 40% promo would be better. Remember this is for the TOTAL BASE VALUE.

would your equation be wrong? i don't have a PowerUp PRO card so i don't really know how it works. I remember reading that it can double dip promotion so that is what you are doing on the left side of the equation (1.5x + 1.5x + 1.5x). Wouldn't the right side also be able to double dip promotion? If it is, the following would be corrected.

What i would do is this..

Basically, when you trade 3 games in and get an extra $10, that is an additional + $3.33 to each game that is traded in. So, the 50% extra from the original value that is going to be traded in needs to be > 3.33.

So. We have to remember to include the powerup on both sides as well.

X = Base TIV

3.33+ .1x = .5x ($3.33 + 10% of base trade in value = 50% of item trade in value)

3.33 = .4x

x = 8.325

So basically, if a game trades in for MORE than $8.325 base, then it makes more sense to do the 40% + 10% trade in value.

So yes, bjaigorgor, your math is correct. I did my math completely differently (i think at least) and got the same results. :)

I get that all the time. I like to keep around $400 or so on my card just in case I need to replace a system or something. They are always like, you could preorder like 6 games and still have credit left... I just laugh and leave.

I bought the first Bioshock and was left with $38. I've been wanting to replay it since I'm reading the new book.
 
Anyone think I could trade in an Xbox 360 pro model with two remotes NBA 2k11 call of duty 4 saints row two dragon age two and fallout: NV for a ps3 without having to fork up extra cash with all of these trade in promos going on with the extra 50% on the games if I get a used ps3 + $10 for trading in 3 games and + $50 for trading in the Xbox toward a ps3. Oh and I have a power up pro card.

Im not to sure you will be able to get the ps3. Trade the games in first. Do the .99 cent game and rest of the credit on PUR card trick. Then on the next day trade in the 360 and see if you have enough for the ps3. Also the extra $50 is towards new systems not used ones unfortunately

you might have enough. first look on the first page for the current TIV of those games and then do 60% add them up then subtract .90. Then see if you have enough for the console.

You can get more, because there's a better promo that gives you 50%. But before we go into what's actually possible, first we need to know if you're a PUR member :)

Try This Gamestop number 718-565-5842. I call them whenever i want to know the TIV of my games and they always tell me over the phone.
 
I have 24 PS2 games, 2 PS3 games, a PS2 fat, and two memory cards I'm trading. I'll be pre-oredering Arkham City Collector's Edition, and I am PUR, so I'll get and extra 50%, and end up with about $135. I might take the PS2 somewhere else to get cash for it, so if I do that I'll get about $115. Not bad since I only paid $55 for all of it.

According to the first page, its $60 with a wireless controller. That and the $50 bonus towards a new console puts you $110 towards a new 360 or PS3 (hoping this holds as I'm buying a new 360 there this week trading in my 20 GB pro)
 
Wow, thats not bad at all for a 360 trade. Been considering upgrading to a Slim for a while. (Though, i might wait for that awesome looking Gear's 3 Bundle)

Thanks guess it would have helped to look at more than just the OP. I'd be about $75 off from the cheapest new ps3 (which is $250 if I'm not mistaken) which would meen trading in my system, a few games, controllers, and cash for just a system. :cry: I want that blu-ray player damn you Microsoft!
 
After some battling back and forth over where would be the best place to trade in and whether or not I should try and combine the 3/$10 and +50% deals, I finally just went in with a stack of stuff and bought :ps2: Bully (I've been wanting to play this for a while...) to get the 50%. Everything else just seemed too complicated...

That's been tempting to me too. if you're willing to go without for a bit I think you can trade towards a pre-order of the Gears bundle (YMMV of course), but I'm just gonna go with the 250 GB Slim. I was gonna get a 4 GB Slim for $100 and a hard drive off Amazon since I had credit, but I got sent a knockoff and I'm sick of waiting for my refund to come back. Doesnt seem worth it to me now so I'll just get the 250 GB Slim instead
 
Well yeah, i was hoping they might have the promo again before then. But the Gear's 3 bundle just seems pretty good (Considering it comes with the new Controllers, copy of Gear's 3, the pre-order DLC, and the bonus DLC).

Wonder if i could get more elseware for a 250 Gig hardrive though, 15$ seems low as heck. (Especially considering its the FF13 Hardrive)

Pfft' You chose that over the Sega Superstars Tennis and Arcade Games Bundle for $3? Shame on you. Hell, even Madden '08*** was $2.00, lol, (servers are about to get shut down though). I was surprised that it the +50% for a pre-owned got bumped up by the 10% TIV, going to see if I can do something similar to what Luuc did with the Castlevania LE with my vanilla MvC3 CE before the TIV plummets any further.

Edit: Nevermind, yikes, base TIV is $8? fuck me for not considering this earlier, damn.

Lol. So how have you guys been handling the 50% promo. Do you either

A) Walk into the store and tell the employee that you want to use the 50% promo and once they ask you for the pre-owned item you reply that you would want to purchase a .99 or 1.99 game or
B) Do you ask for the game upfront and then trade in your games for the promo and put the remaining credit on your PUR card or a GC?

Actually, the employee is the one who suggested I pick up a 99 cent game or something when I asked for the +40% coupon (I wasn't aware the 50% stacked with the PUR 10% bonus). Otherwise, I'd just do B and put it on your PUR card (easier to keep track of). I'd say just pick up a cheap game you'd want, but don't see either A) dropping in price or B) as something you'd pick up during a B2G1 free pre-owned sale.

Edit: Since this won't get anyone specific into trouble, during my absence from the forum I managed to get a YMMV deal.

Apparently a used copy of DA: Ultimate as well as AC: Bro were stickered incorrectly ($20 for DA: U and $18 for AC: Bro), but they honored the sticker price and let it stack with my B2G1 free coupon (picked up a copy of AC2 as well). So, don't go looking for it necessarily, but if you notice a price disparity, it doesn't hurt to point it out. Personally, I have a history with the employee I told about this (just figured I'd point out the prices and ask if it was legit) and the manager who provided the override (which is why I was allowed to run home and get my coupon before they re-stickered). Worth a shot, imo. Inb4 "Why would you tell FailStop to up their prices?".

Tl; dr version: DA: Ultimate/AC2/AC:Bro used for $12 each is a steal, imo. DA: Ultimate even came with a code for some armor in ME 2.

WTF. Kingdom hearts still goes for $10 while DBZ tenkachi is $12. Was it 1,2, or 3. Traded 2 in like a month ago and got 6 dollard.
