First post contains promo information & useful information and frequently asked questions. The second post is blank currently but is there for expansion or to revert back to the way things were. These trade-in values are really low!
While that may be true, if you combine the games with the right promotion they can work to your advantage. There are knowledgeable people in this thread that are normally willing to help.

Is there any way to look at what the previous values reported on a game?
You can search through this thread and previous ones to see what a game has been reported in the past. With the TIV Tracker you can sort by date and then go through the list of past updated values through that as well. Here are the previous GS TIV Threads: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13

Can I trade-in sealed games?
No. You might come across the rare GameStop that would let you do it, but they are going to open them anyway.


I don't want to get hassled about the values I post, how can I get the information out there?
If you do not feel comfortable or willing to put the values in the thread you have two options available. You can input them in the TIV tracker or you can send them to me via PM. Either way the database and these lists will be updated. Putting them into the TIV tracker does save me some time later on.

Do trade-ins have to have their original case, insert and manual?
No, however it will be YMMV on if they charge you a refurbish fee for them in that condition. Most GameStops wont charge a fee but there are some that charge for incomplete games.

Will they accept my game if it is really beat up?
YMMV. It really all depends upon the employee you get. Some will charge refurbish fees, some wont, some wont accept the game and others just take them without a second glance.

What are the refurb fees on games?
There appears to be set prices for set value ranges. We aren't 100% certain on the splits just yet. Here is what we have currently:
$0.25-$2 Value:
$0.75 Refurb Fee
$2.01-$4 Value: $1 Refurb Fee
$4.01-$7 Value: $2 Refurb Fee
$7.01-$10 Value: $3 Refurb Fee
$10.01 & Higher Value: $4 Refurb Fee
This information isn't guaranteed by any mean and we are still working on nailing it down.

What are the refurb fees on consoles?
They are listed in the hardware TIV section, highlight in red.


I have a Collector's/Limited/Special edition of a game, do I have to trade-in all of the extras?
No, but there are a handful of games that their variations have separate listings at GameStop: Madden 09 Anniversary Edition, Battlefield: Bad Company Gold Edition, and a few others.

Why didn't the percent bonus go for my accessory for a system that was included?
Unless stated otherwise, and they are rarely included, the bonuses never apply to accessories. Except the EDGE card of course.

I traded in a bunch of games for the "Trade X, get $X bonus" promo and it gave me the percentage bonus instead?
I can't give concretes on why this happens. GameStop computers are normally pretty good at giving you the better promo. In the case of a percentage bonus being run at the same time as a "Trade X, get $X" promo, things can get messy. The system appears to only give one promo on games per transaction so if you had a few games that you want to go to the percentage bonus and a stack for the "Trade X, Get $X" it will regularly apply the percentage to all of the games. Your best bet is to do all "Trade X, Get $X" games in one transaction on their own. The GameStop clerk may say that the system will figure it all out, tell them you want a separate transaction anyway. As always, check your receipt before you leave the store.


Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
YMMV. The official policy is no, but there are some GameStops that overlook that rule.

What all do I have to trade in for a console trade-in?
Xbox 360: Console Unit, power brick, A/V Cables, Controller (wired/wireless)
Wii: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cables, Wiimote, Nunchuck, Sensor Bar
Playstation 3: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller, USB Cable
Playstation 2: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller (Must be a DualShock2)
*Fat unit requires either back cover or network adapter*
GameCube: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller
PSP: Handheld, A/C Adapter
Nintendo DS/DSLite/DSi: Handheld, A/C Adapter, Stylus

Can I trade in a defective/broken console?
For the most part yes. If it powers on but doesn't play games, they will take the console as a refurb unit and put a refurb fee on the console. The refurb fee on the console will vary on the price of the console so those numbers will change. You are still required to trade in everything required listed in the question directly above. They will not, however, take RROD 360 consoles. There may be stores that still do it, but official policy is to not take them in.

What is the difference between PowerUp Rewards and PowerUp Rewards Pro?
The basic card is free and only allows you to acrew points when spending money. The Pro card costs $14.99 and is basically the same as the previous EDGE program.

How much does a PowerUp Rewards Pro subscription cost?
It costs $14.99 and is good for a year. It also comes with a 1-year subscription to Game Informer magazine.

What bonuses come with having an PowerUp Rewards Pro card?
You will get an extra 10% trade-in credit on the base value of the game, extra 10% off the purchase of pre-owned games and 10% off new strategy guides.

Does the Power Up Rewards Card give me a bonus on hardware trade-ins?
No. You will only get the bonus for games and accessories.

What if I want cash instead of credit, what do they deduct?
If you decide that you want cash instead of credit, they will take 20% off the base values and promos will not apply.

Does promo "....." have a minimum trade-in value?
If the promo has a minimum trade-in value requirement, it will be listed in the promo. If it isn't there, then there is no limit. However, as with all trades, they are subject to manager approval so the manager could have setup his own little rule-set requiring a minimum of whatever.

I used a Power Trade promo for a pre-order, can I cancel that pre-order and get the credit or move it to another game I want?
Yes on both accounts. However, if you do a bunch of the power trades and just straight drop the pre-order you could create some ill-will between yourself and the employees you cancel on. However, if you look at the wordings on promos, they can remove the bonus trade-in value if they decide to.

I just tried to use a promo that has a select list of games eligible, but they say my game isn't eligible anymore, what gives?
Basically they have the right to change the eligible games at any time. They tend to update these frequently so as to lock out any easy/cheap games. It's best to check the eligible list the day of your trade.

Can I stack two different trade-in promos?
No. The only thing that will stack with trade-ins is your EDGE card. Some will report success, but this requires a manual override and is very YMMV.

If I pay for an item using all credit on my card, do I have to pay sales tax?
This varies depending upon the state you live in.

My state doesn't charge sales tax on purchases made by credit, why is gamestop.com charging me tax?
It is just the way they have designed their system. The best theory we have seen is that since you are only inputting the number off of the back of the card, it isn't going to pick up the programming from the specially tagged EDGE cards. Some kind of programming that gets input from their system that wont show up when only inputting the number off the back of the card.

Okay boys and girls, I have moved the FAQ into the first post. I have spoiler-ed all of them into one big spoiler button. Without it, the first post was way too damn large. Still is really. Anyway, I have placed them there because getting these questions updated and what not would be good to have more than just me. If possible please try to keep them the same style as they currently are. If I start seeing a lot of bullshit edits, it will go back to the way it was.

They didn't tell me why I got banned. I asked the kid behind the counter and he said he is too low to know why, but his manager was shuffling around avoiding eye contact cuz he is a giant douche and i guess they had no reason. I told him I guess it's cuz i have been trading too many games in but that's bullshit, lol. I traded a bunch of blops and infamous 2 and la noire like high value games with +% but that's the freaking business model.
I understood being restricted online cuz i always jumped up and down for their glitches and always tried to get the tax back for using my credit and other cag16 deals etc, but never thought banned instore, lol. i used to run from gamestop to gamestop doing flips, but i hadnt done that in almost a year since they closed one of the gamestops around here. the kid at the counter even told me he hadnt noticed me doing anything crazy lately, so idk. no fret tho, just happy i didnt renew my powerup rewards card since it expires august 2nd. i had 22,000 points, but just cashed those out for $10 off psn cards and such. peace all

Nope. Well, unless the employee manually overrides it.:whistle2:#
But you'll only get the 50% promo (if you buy any used merchandise) or the 40% promo (with the coupon) or the 3=$10 offer (automatically applied if you trade 3 games).

The 10% extra because of the PowerUp-card stacks with any of those.

You can do the trades by separate depending on which games you want the 50% extra or the 3=$10.

That is correct. A number of people have jumped on this deal. I've been tempted to trade my stuff in towards a kinect bundle, but haven't decided just yet.

Nasty little surprise, tho. I didn't realize that they kept my balance on the card, and since I lost the keytag, I didn't have my card with me, so I needed to pay for the remainder of the game I was buying. Fortunately, the other card is sitting at home.

But, considering everything that they can access, it is kinda screwed up that they can't get my current credit.

are you serious? i lost my card and was gonna go in today to see if they could give me another one. is this not allowed or something?

You could have went with 50% bonus and bought a $0.99 game for $41.25 before PUR card (add a few bucks if you have one) instead of the $37.50
 
Donkey Kong Country Returns :wii: $25 base

Probably the best flip for this promo if you pick up one of the million copies from BBV, flipped 2 for $30 extra for much needed MSP, the Bond Games on sale and a pre-order for UMvC3.

Tried my luck to do the Trade 2 in for a pre-order of AC: Revelations' Signature Edition (probably the best pre-order bonus they're offering on an AAA title this year), but the manager made a note that the coupon was needed, but said it'd be on my online PUR account for free. I can't find it at all, this is driving me crazy.

+10% bonus with your PUR card, it's actually 60% total if you have the card (their BEST TIV promo yet). Usually they cap it @ 50%. It's your trade-in total + 60%. Math should add up now.

How many of you think that the PUR card bonus stacking was an accident?

Edit: Either that, or you're subtracting the cost of the $0.99 game from the TIV total.

I was looking at the prices for trade in on hardware and I was wondering if someone could tell me what the Hardware Refurb Deduction list is? Is that for non-working units or something else? Are they able to tell if a system is refurbished instead of used?

You were buying MvC3 for $30? Damn, it's even on sale for $27 off the website. I hope you're aware of UMvC3 coming out for $40 new in November.

So before I go selling my games, I got like 3 that are below $5, so Ill sell those seperately to get the extra $10. Now as for games that have the bar code on the back slashed or "not for resale", does GS accept those? Looked in OP, didnt find anything. Just possibility that they made discount a fee.

Would I be better off removing the box art? That way a slash on back or not for resale thing wont make a big stink when trading in?? Advice? Thanx guys.

technically it was 26.99 lol, the receipt actually rounds up the 2.70 to say 3.00, but I'm quoting the CSR here. This is preowned anyway..so:)

They shouldn't, but they usually do. They also sell back Not For Resale copies, so it's fair.

Anyone ever feel like asking them about the sale of those editions? Was tempted to trade-in my Not For Sale version of Forza 3, but I can't find the Ultimate edition used (can't find it on the site either). I love how the site has the vanilla game selling for $25 used, and the Ultimate edition for $30 new, to exploit those who don't know the difference.

If I go in tomorrow, will I be able to get the 50% + $10 extra.

so if i trade in LA Noire (17 * 1.5 = 25.5) AC:BH (15*1.5 = 22.5) and Tiger woods 10 (6 * 1.5 = 9) I should get $67 total correct? And if i sign up for a rewards card can i get the 10% ontop of that?

Nope, 50% ends today and you can't combine promos like that. Sorry. Also, LA Noire's TIV is $25. *cough*

Oh wow i thought it was only 17 according to the site. But if i sign up for the power up card, and then trade in those 3 i should be able to get 46 *10 = 48.60 + 10

Yeah, but the PUR bonus only applies if you're a paying member, and it's a $15 yearly fee. I'd trade them in TODAY. If you want, you can hold off on trading in Tiger Woods and trade it in with 2 other lesser valued games.


As for a B2G1, I doubt it. They do probably have a ton more used stock, but I'd imagine they'd wanna resell it back to us for a solid profit before they offer a sale. Those kind of sales are to get rid of overpriced used games that'll never sell.

TIV that low for LP : Colonies is a crime. :( I just don't get why some people would trade in solid titles for that low a return. Hell, I'd even keep Quake 4 for a dollar.

Because I didn't want them and was too lazy to try to put them on the internet. LP was given to me, and I didn't like Quake IV (free game a while back from B2G1).

All those games were trade in beause I didn't like them (except for Reach - got a free copy from MS back with their new dash beta). Otherwise, I keep my games.

Fair enough, I guess it'd be different if you'd paid for them. Perhaps I'm just a mid-level hoarder (certainly nowhere near EL HOARDO proportions), but I keep my games unless the TIV is a solid deal/deliberately buy to flip, and then I just make a point of it to rebuy the ones I wanted to keep for cheaper down the road.

Question: If anyone who lurks here is a GS employee, can you buy the games from GS at the price you have them trade-in for? Seems like a fair deal.

Ouch, yeah, that's the standard closing time. My closest one is open later than every other one in the area, for some reason. And it's not even in a mall. It closes @ 9, too bad you're nowhere near me. Worse comes to worse, I keep my $25 copy of DKCR.
