First post contains promo information & useful information and frequently asked questions. The second post is blank currently but is there for expansion or to revert back to the way things were. Third post has the 360/Wii/PS3 values. Fourth post has the PS2/GC values. Fifth post has DS/PSP values. Sixth post has hardware/accessory values for all systems.

These trade-in values are really low!
While that may be true, if you combine the games with the right promotion they can work to your advantage. There are knowledgeable people in this thread that are normally willing to help.

Is there any way to look at what the previous values reported on a game?
You can search through this thread and previous ones to see what a game has been reported in the past. With the TIV Tracker you can sort by date and then go through the list of past updated values through that as well. Here are the previous GS TIV Threads: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13

Can I trade-in sealed games?
No. You might come across the rare GameStop that would let you do it, but they are going to open them anyway.


I don't want to get hassled about the values I post, how can I get the information out there?
If you do not feel comfortable or willing to put the values in the thread you have two options available. You can input them in the TIV tracker or you can send them to me via PM. Either way the database and these lists will be updated. Putting them into the TIV tracker does save me some time later on.

Do trade-ins have to have their original case, insert and manual?
No, however it will be YMMV on if they charge you a refurbish fee for them in that condition. Most GameStops wont charge a fee but there are some that charge for incomplete games.

Will they accept my game if it is really beat up?
YMMV. It really all depends upon the employee you get. Some will charge refurbish fees, some wont, some wont accept the game and others just take them without a second glance.

What are the refurb fees on games?
There appears to be set prices for set value ranges. We aren't 100% certain on the splits just yet. Here is what we have currently:
$0.25-$2 Value:
$0.75 Refurb Fee
$2.01-$4 Value: $1 Refurb Fee
$4.01-$7 Value: $2 Refurb Fee
$7.01-$10 Value: $3 Refurb Fee
$10.01 & Higher Value: $4 Refurb Fee
This information isn't guaranteed by any mean and we are still working on nailing it down.

What are the refurb fees on consoles?
They are listed in the hardware TIV section, highlight in red.


I have a Collector's/Limited/Special edition of a game, do I have to trade-in all of the extras?
No, but there are a handful of games that their variations have separate listings at GameStop: Madden 09 Anniversary Edition, Battlefield: Bad Company Gold Edition, and a few others.

Why didn't the percent bonus go for my accessory for a system that was included?
Unless stated otherwise, and they are rarely included, the bonuses never apply to accessories. Except the EDGE card of course.

I traded in a bunch of games for the "Trade X, get $X bonus" promo and it gave me the percentage bonus instead?
I can't give concretes on why this happens. GameStop computers are normally pretty good at giving you the better promo. In the case of a percentage bonus being run at the same time as a "Trade X, get $X" promo, things can get messy. The system appears to only give one promo on games per transaction so if you had a few games that you want to go to the percentage bonus and a stack for the "Trade X, Get $X" it will regularly apply the percentage to all of the games. Your best bet is to do all "Trade X, Get $X" games in one transaction on their own. The GameStop clerk may say that the system will figure it all out, tell them you want a separate transaction anyway. As always, check your receipt before you leave the store.


Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
YMMV. The official policy is no, but there are some GameStops that overlook that rule.

What all do I have to trade in for a console trade-in?
Xbox 360: Console Unit, power brick, A/V Cables, Controller (wired/wireless)
Wii: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cables, Wiimote, Nunchuck, Sensor Bar
Playstation 3: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller, USB Cable
Playstation 2: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller (Must be a DualShock2)
*Fat unit requires either back cover or network adapter*
GameCube: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller
PSP: Handheld, A/C Adapter

Can I trade in a defective/broken console?
For the most part yes. If it powers on but doesn't play games, they will take the console as a refurb unit and put a refurb fee on the console. The refurb fee on the console will vary on the price of the console so those numbers will change. You are still required to trade in everything required listed in the question directly above. They will not, however, take RROD 360 consoles. There may be stores that still do it, but official policy is to not take them in.

What is the difference between PowerUp Rewards and PowerUp Rewards Pro?
The basic card is free and only allows you to acrew points when spending money. The Pro card costs $14.99 and is basically the same as the previous EDGE program.

How much does a PowerUp Rewards Pro subscription cost?
It costs $14.99 and is good for a year. It also comes with a 1-year subscription to Game Informer magazine.

What bonuses come with having an PowerUp Rewards Pro card?
You will get an extra 10% trade-in credit on the base value of the game, extra 10% off the purchase of pre-owned games and 10% off new strategy guides.

Does the Power Up Rewards Card give me a bonus on hardware trade-ins?
No. You will only get the bonus for games and accessories.

What if I want cash instead of credit, what do they deduct?
If you decide that you want cash instead of credit, they will take 20% off the base values and promos will not apply.

Does promo "....." have a minimum trade-in value?
If the promo has a minimum trade-in value requirement, it will be listed in the promo. If it isn't there, then there is no limit. However, as with all trades, they are subject to manager approval so the manager could have setup his own little rule-set requiring a minimum of whatever.

I used a Power Trade promo for a pre-order, can I cancel that pre-order and get the credit or move it to another game I want?
Yes on both accounts. However, if you do a bunch of the power trades and just straight drop the pre-order you could create some ill-will between yourself and the employees you cancel on. However, if you look at the wordings on promos, they can remove the bonus trade-in value if they decide to.

I just tried to use a promo that has a select list of games eligible, but they say my game isn't eligible anymore, what gives?
Basically they have the right to change the eligible games at any time. They tend to update these frequently so as to lock out any easy/cheap games. It's best to check the eligible list the day of your trade.

Can I stack two different trade-in promos?
No. The only thing that will stack with trade-ins is your EDGE card. Some will report success, but this requires a manual override and is very YMMV.

If I pay for an item using all credit on my card, do I have to pay sales tax?
This varies depending upon the state you live in.

My state doesn't charge sales tax on purchases made by credit, why is gamestop.com charging me tax?
It is just the way they have designed their system. The best theory we have seen is that since you are only inputting the number off of the back of the card, it isn't going to pick up the programming from the specially tagged EDGE cards. Some kind of programming that gets input from their system that wont show up when only inputting the number off the back of the card.

glad I read this thread early enough today. I was planning to do some trades after dinner, but checked that the stores in fact close at 6pm on Sundays. I was able to trade in some but not all of what I had originally wanted. Here is to hoping for a similar deal soon. I love buying cheap 99c games to get that 50% extra. With PUR its spend 90c in my case to get an extra $15... love it.

Strange though, looking at my receipt apparently they charged me for a refurb service on my Beatles Rock Band, even though it was in perfect condition. And they put gameonly despite the fact that it had a fine case and manual. But too late to complain now:p

Yea anyone know when the next big trade deals coming through? Im pissed I missed my chance by 30min. Wanted that 60% trade in deal. Damn.
 
Damn, forgot it ended today =/. Glad i got my initial stuff worth 100$ dollars traded in, though i was hoping to pay off Bleach too.

Guess its finally time to get rid of some older games for that 10$ deal.

You can trade in as many as you want at once and the computer will automatically apply the "3 for $10" promo; just make sure that your games all qualify for the promo (must have a TIV of $2 or more).

It's probably a good idea to figure out how much you SHOULD be getting BEFORE you do the trade-in so you can catch any refurbish fees and/or unexpected drops in the TIVs. Also, remember that YOU are the customer; don't feel bad asking them to double-check values and/or splitting up your trade-ins.

The employees I've spoken with (casually) have mentioned getting an employee discount (that stacks with PUR PRO, I think), but I have no idea how much it is.

I imagine that after the discount it's around Amazon prices....maybe? I'd be VERY surprised if it's as low as TIV levels though.

Also count your games. I traded stacks of games to 2 different stores on Sat and both stores missed a game initially. The first was a stack of 15 games. There were a bunch of caseless DS games so I thought I maybe counted wrong when only 14 were accepted, but I know I had a wii tiger woods in there, which wasn't on the receipt. I called today and they found it somehow. The second store missed 1 of six games, but I caught it in the parking lot before I left. Missing those 2 games were worth $30 in trade - $5 ea TIV and missing out on the $10 bonus for not having the 3rd game to complete multiples of 3.

Also you guys should check the trade-in board they have above the register, I guess my store missed an update they had FEAR 3 for $24 so I got $38.40 with 60%.

I'm preaching to the choir here since we are CAG's. I always check the trade in values then do the math so I'll know if the total is off or not. Gamestop will not tell you how much you are getting for each if you don't ask. They'll just total it up and tell you how much credit you have, which I think is the purpose in order to sound like more than it really is. For example, you trade in 10 games and you don't know the values, next thing you know you've "gave" them a few games for 2.00 or something and the that new release game for $15. Gamestop preys on the uninformed (kids, parents, other family members, etc.), preorder this game or we can't guarantee you'll get it, or trade-in 20 games and Call of Duty 8 will be paid for.
 
To my knowledge all trade-in bonuses aside from the 3 for $10 extra, and the usual pre-order TIV bonuses are now defunct.

At least GS employees get SOMETHING, but if I worked there I'm sure I'd be frustrated as hell watching people turn in games for

I missed out on taking one more batch to get the extra 50% towards pre-owned on Sunday, but planned to just take the 10% loss and use the E3 promo. Don't know what to do now; I've got a lot of stuff that GS gives a lot better values for than Best Buy, so I guess I wait it out...
 
This is kind of off topic, but my 360 is getting an e68 error which i think is HD related. Would it be worth trading it in towards a 4GB arcade model? At the very it has an HDMI port unlike my current one.

Also, can i combine PUR coupons i buy with points with trade in offers (i.e. the $50 towards new hardware)?

I never ordered from GameStop.com before but do they ship games unopened? I was trying to buy a game earlier and they tried to give me an open one so I ask if they have an unopened one and they said they couldn't do that, lol so I left that bitc. Also any free shipping codes lying around? Thankies.

As far as I know, they don't ship open-copies online (well, for used games they do :p).
In-store, it's usually the last (or only) copy of a game they have; the one that is open. They do sell unopened copies; if they have them of course. But is not like every game they sell is open. Depending on the game, since if it's a niche game that they only received 1 copy, they do open that one copy for display purposes.

Need help please

I wanna get rid of my 360 and get a PS3 and Im wondering if Gamestop is my best bet. I have a 20GB w/ HDMI and a couple games.

I used the values within the thread and here is my total:
360: $110 (with $50 towards new console)
Black Ops: $23
MW2: $12
FIFA 11: $18

So my total is $163, is this my best value?

If you add up your prices, that equals $169. But that's wrong anyway--MW2 is listed at $12, so $163 is correct so far. You will also get ~$2 for the 20GB HDD. You will automatically get the Trade 3 for $10 offer added as well.
Your total should be $175 if my math is right and all the TIVs are correct.
$110 (with promo) + 23 + 18 + 12 + 2 (HDD) + 10 (promo) = $175
 
I just got some Wii games dirt cheap but they are scratched all to Hell. I usually take care of my own games but it appears Gamestop will take about anything as long as it is not cracked. Anyone have experience with trading heavily scratched games or would I be better off buffing them (if so, would they accept a buffed game?) Thanks.

I'm guessing they'll just add the refurb fees, but I'm not sure.

Most GS will charge a refurb fee, some are more lenient than others. They would accept a buffed game as long as it looked good. Refurb fees are tied to TIV values. Higher the value, higher the fee.

Thanks, I've got some good games (wish the 50% promo was still available) and not a lot money invested so I think I will give it a shot this week. I might go with the 25% bonus for preordering Madden 12.

Dang, I just saw Amazon has a $20 promotional credit with Madden 12.

most likely having them buffed will be less than what they hit you with for refurb fees...
but meh, you could go into GS see what they will give you and if the refurbs are substantial, stop the transaction and take them to get refurbed...

It's faster and more convenient, and I'd say that's a good enough price if you're wanting to get rid of your Xbox anyway. Hang on to your hard drive though. You could definitely sell that for more than $2. $10-$20 I think.
 
Guys since GS's %50 trade in is gone, am I better off trading my games to Amazon and sorry to bring amazon in this thread. For example BFBC2 ps3 vanilla is $20.xx trade in and like $15 on GS. Also GtA4 CE is $21.xx on amazon and like $10 on GS! If the bonus trade in deals were alive, I'd go with GS but is Amazon now my best chance?

Have heard horrid stories about BB and their TIV ain't as good as both GS and amazon. Ideas? Dont want to wait too long while prices decrease.
