Instructions on finding games in the database and inputting the values from different sections can be found in my blog post here: http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/blog.php?b=14143. I would put the entire post in the thread but this is already kind of a large post.

PLEASE POST BASE VALUES & SYSTEM IT IS FOR.

FAQ
These trade-in values are really low!
While that may be true, if you combine the games with the right promotion they can work to your advantage. There are knowledgeable people in this thread that are normally willing to help.

Is there any way to look at what the previous values reported on a game?
You can search through this thread and previous ones to see what a game has been reported in the past. With the TIV Tracker you can sort by date and then go through the list of past updated values through that as well. Here are the previous GS TIV Threads: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9.

Can I trade-in sealed games?
No. You might come across the rare GameStop that would let you do it, but they are going to open them anyway.

Do trade-ins have to have their original case, insert and manual?
No, however it will be YMMV on if they charge you a refurbish fee for them in that condition. Most GameStops wont charge a fee but there are some that charge for incomplete games.

Will they accept my game if it is really beat up?
YMMV. It really all depends upon the employee you get. Some will charge refurbish fees, some wont, some wont accept the game and others just take them without a second glance.

What are the refurb fees on games?
There appears to be set prices for set value ranges. We aren't 100% certain on the splits just yet. Here is what we have currently:
$0.25-$2 Value:
$0.75 Refurb Fee
$2.01-$4 Value: $1 Refurb Fee
$4.01-$7 Value: $2 Refurb Fee
$7.01-$10 Value: $3 Refurb Fee
$10.01 & Higher Value: $4 Refurb Fee
This information isn't guaranteed by any mean and we are still working on nailing it down.

I have a Collector's/Limited/Special edition of a game, do I have to trade-in all of the extras?
No, but there are a handful of games that their variations have separate listings at GameStop: Madden 09 Anniversary Edition, Battlefield: Bad Company Gold Edition, and a few others.

Why didn't the percent bonus go for my accessory for a system that was included?
Unless stated otherwise, and they are rarely included, the bonuses never apply to accessories. Except the EDGE card of course.

I traded in a bunch of games for the "Trade X, get $X bonus" promo and it gave me the percentage bonus instead?
I can't give concretes on why this happens. GameStop computers are normally pretty good at giving you the better promo. In the case of a percentage bonus being run at the same time as a "Trade X, get $X" promo, things can get messy. The system appears to only give one promo on games per transaction so if you had a few games that you want to go to the percentage bonus and a stack for the "Trade X, Get $X" it will regularly apply the percentage to all of the games. Your best bet is to do all "Trade X, Get $X" games in one transaction on their own. The GameStop clerk may say that the system will figure it all out, tell them you want a separate transaction anyway. As always, check your receipt before you leave the store.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
YMMV. The official policy is no, but there are some GameStops that overlook that rule.

What all do I have to trade in for a console trade-in?
Xbox 360: Console Unit, power brick, A/V Cables, Controller (wired/wireless)
Wii: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cables, Wiimote, Nunchuck, Sensor Bar
Playstation 3: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller, USB Cable
Playstation 2: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller (Must be a DualShock2)
GameCube: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller
PSP: Handheld, A/C Adapter
Nintendo DS/DSLite/DSi: Handheld, A/C Adapter, Stylus

Can I trade in a defective/broken console?
For the most part yes. If it powers on but doesn't play games, they will take the console as a refurb unit and put a refurb fee on the console. The refurb fee on the console will vary on the price of the console so those numbers will change. You are still required to trade in everything required listed in the question directly above. They will not, however, take RROD 360 consoles. There may be stores that still do it, but official policy is to not take them in.

How much does an EDGE card subscription cost?
It costs $14.99 and is good for a year. It also comes with a 1-year subscription to Game Informer magazine.

What bonuses come with having an EDGE card?
You will get an extra 10% trade-in credit on the base value of the game and an extra 10% off the purchase of used games.

Does the EDGE Card give me a bonus on hardware trade-ins?
No. You will only get the bonus for games and accessories.

What if I want cash instead of credit, what do they deduct?
If you decide that you want cash instead of credit, they will take 20% off the base values and promos will not apply.

Does promo "....." have a minimum trade-in value?
If the promo has a minimum trade-in value requirement, it will be listed in the promo. If it isn't there, then there is no limit. However, as with all trades, they are subject to manager approval so the manager could have setup his own little rule-set requiring a minimum of whatever.

I used a Power Trade promo for a pre-order, can I cancel that pre-order and get the credit or move it to another game I want?
Yes on both accounts. However, if you do a bunch of the power trades and just straight drop the pre-order you could create some ill-will between yourself and the employees you cancel on.

I just tried to use a promo that has a select list of games eligible, but they say my game isn't eligible anymore, what gives?
Basically they have the right to change the eligible games at any time. They tend to update these frequently so as to lock out any easy/cheap games. It's best to check the eligible list the day of your trade.

Can I stack two different trade-in promos?
No. The only thing that will stack with trade-ins is your EDGE card.

If I pay for an item using all credit on my card, do I have to pay sales tax?
This varies depending upon the state you live in.

What states charge sales tax on purchases paid in full with credit and which ones don't?
Charge Sales Tax on Credit Purchases: Alabama, Arkansas, California, Florida, Hawaii, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Utah, West Virginia
Does Not Charge Sales Tax on Credit Purchases: Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Delaware, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Oregon, South Carolina, Texas, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin, Wyoming
No Information Yet: Connecticut, Idaho, Mississippi, Nevada, New Mexico, Rhode Island, South Dakota

My state doesn't charge sales tax on purchases made by credit, why is gamestop.com charging me tax?
It is just the way they have designed their system. The best theory we have seen is that since you are only inputting the number off of the back of the card, it isn't going to pick up the programming from the specially tagged EDGE cards. Some kind of programming that gets input from their system that wont show up when only inputting the number off the back of the card.

First post contains promo information and the FAQ. Second post has the 360/Wii/PS3 values. Third post has the PS2/GC values. Fourth post has DS/PSP/GBA values.
They do not take original xbox games anymore. If the past is any indication the 3 get $10 will only apply to 360/Wii/PS3.

Did you actually try to trade games or did you just ask? Also, if you did do the trade did he hit total? They have to hit total before the promo will activate. You do not need a coupon for the 50%. It's in their computers. The only way their system wouldn't do it is if they didn't get their update last night.

As far as I know. I haven't actually seen the full info on the site yet, but the way it reads is all games.
I didn't trade them in because he said it would be 30% for sure; I should have tried anyway. I'll try again today. Thanks for the help

So we have 50% going on now, then wehave trade in 3 games from current gen systems and get $10 extra. Then we have a list for $25 on certain games. I am confused are these all running now and if so we need to figure out on our own which deal works best for us? In most cases it seems the $10 cash works best on games under $5 TIV while 60% on all games that won't get you the $25 from that list.

Guaranteed $25 starts on 6/7 according to the flyer. We don't have a confirmed start on the trade 3 get $10. If it follows pattern it'll be starting on 6/7.

Here are some base values as of 6/5/10:

Heavy Rain (PS3) - $22.00
UFC 2009: Undisputed (XBOX360) - $4.00

Hoping that guaranteed $25 trade list pulls through on Monday since I was about to trade in WWE Smackdown vs RAW 2010 today. I asked someone at my local GS about the list and she had no idea it existed. But that's not exactly news.

I just called my local gamestop and they told me NSMB was going for $17

I called another store and they said it was $25

I just came back from GS, and I have the following:

Base trade:

Super Street Fighter IV (PS3) $20
Assassin's Creed (PS3) $4.50
Wii Component cable (Any) $4.50
Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories (PSP) $6
Burnout Ledengs (PSP) $3.75
Demon's Souls (PS3) $10 (Didn't trade, I would get $16 with bonuses, so I'll wait for the $25 guaranteed)

Edit: Oh, I forgot, Demon's Souls was selling for $26.99 used. Online is $32.99...

I'm going to buy something online at GS.com, but I'm like $2 short rofl (cuz of Tax), am I allowed to go to Gamestop and tell them to put the $2 on the card they gave me that has my credit?? I'd rather not deal with a credit card so I want to do it exclusively with credit.

Like others have said, I'll assume thats New Super mario Bros for the DS - I just got off the phone with a Gamestop and New Super Mario Bros for the Wii was trading in still @ 25.00..I imagine it would be an easy mistake to be made on their end with the similar titles and such...

Either way, I will be trading it in shortly and post back with the results..

Is this your first visit to "Earth" and our cut throat game store chain known as Gamestop? All they do is jack people. It's just more convenient to trade crap in there rather than take the time to try and sell it on the internet.

Nope, its not my first visit...I just manage a local game store, and it always surprises me what they give on somethings

From my experience with GS, you have to treat it like the stock market. Pay attention to the sales/deals and trade in values. Then go out and buy low and sell high. Sometimes you can get the upper hand. It just takes time and patience. Don't get discouraged tho, you'll get yours sooner or later and eventually walk out of GS with a smile on your face, not because you got the games you wanted, but for the simple fact that you finally got to bend them mofos over the table and get your revenge. Ahh, sweet revenge.....nothing in the world is better.

Awesome x 2 - I know what I'm bringing in today! I actually had these locked in to trades at Gazelle but I can get substantially more at GS (albeit in credit and not via Paypal, but still...).

Yeah, it was horrible when they gave me $56 for Mass Effect 2 the day after I beat it and then let me buy it back for $19.69 after promos and coupons the other week ;).
Can you confirm the value of PSP? Was it still $35 base + bonus?
Yea $35 Base + $25 Bonus = $60 (PSP ORIGINAL)

Got it on launch day way back.

Just a couple from today that haven't been recently updated:

DS:
WarioWare D.I.Y.: $12
Legendary Starfy: $13.50

Time to reorder yet another replacement NSMB!

More convenient? You can create an ebay listing for your item which will sell itself. Package and ship it and make more money. Modern Warfare 2 for $16 at gamestop is pretty low IMO, when you can easily make about $28-$32 cash for it. So that's at least $10+ dollars more on each trade in.

So if your lazy then so be it, but if an extra 30 min to an hour is too much time then your are the prime example why you will never make it in life.

I try to ignore the trolls most of time but the above is just one of the most asinine statements I've ever read on CAG.
So since you sell stuff on ebay, you're a better human being?
What about the 9% ebay takes and then the other percentage for using Paypal? Gas? Time? You're probably back down to what GS would have given you for credit.
I'd rather spend my time with family/gaming/watching movies etc as opposed to standing in line at the PO and then having to potentially deal with some sort of issue after the deal is supposedly "done".
Come on man, why even come in here and make these comments? What do you get out of it? Don't you have some squirrels to mutilate/dissect?
Yea $35 Base + $25 Bonus = $60 (PSP ORIGINAL)

Got it on launch day way back.
Thanks for this info. I was really hoping the 1000 had jumped in TIV after someone posted getting $80 after bonuses. Oh well.

$16.00 is the base, not with bonuses. Including 60% in bonuses which occurs often recently, you are looking at $25.60. Assuming you can make $32 in cash, you still have to take into account:

Shipping cost (including the cost of material to ship it.)
Ebay's or Amazon's Cut
Time till you recieve the Money
Convenience Factor.

I'd rather $25.60 in credit with more convenience than maybe $24.00 in cash taking into account all those factors.

If you can get something done more efficiently, then do so. You have to take into account the old idiom that Time=Money.

It's stupid to waste an hour when you don't have to. Even then, the more unsettling part of your part is just you being a jerk. And I'm not sure anyone is a fan of jerks. You are the prime example of a person who doesn't need to post.

Monster Hunter Tri - $22 base. almost $35 after bonuses.

Don't feel too bad as I wasn't digging the game and got it for about that much on gs.com with the coupon code glitches, $10 coupon and the free 500 wii points.

I don't understand how this guaranteed 25 thing doesn't stack with the 50%. It doesn't make sense to not stack. A game like Alpha Protocol which is going for $22 right now. Would go for $25, with no other bonus. Yet at the 22$ value, will go for $33 with the 50% bonus.

It just doesn't make sense why to have a bunch of games on the list be guaranteed $25 without any other promo, when most of them are pretty close to $25 right now.

How much would I get for Borderlands & Halo Wars? I looked on the site's thingy. But I don't know if it includes this bonus.

Also, can I get a link to the list of the Guaranteed $25 deal?

It depends upon how they are guaranteeing the $25. If they have just changed the values in the system for all those games to $25, then it will stack. However if they have tagged those specific games to get an automatic increase, one that doesn't show up until they hit total like all promos, then it wouldn't stack.

I don't think they would do that just for the sake that it would basically cancel out the 50% promo.

Example: Battlefield Bad Company 2 = $20. If you go by the 50% promo, you would get $30 for it. However since it is on the list of $25 guaranteed, that game is not eligible for a promo that is running at the same time.

I figure those two will stack because the easiest way to do is to just bump the values across the database. However, there are two ways they could do it so I figured it was prudent to at least show both ways.

Also, updated lists and database.
