Instructions on finding games in the database and inputting the values from different sections can be found in my blog post here: http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/blog.php?b=14143. I would put the entire post in the thread but this is already kind of a large post.

PLEASE POST BASE VALUES & SYSTEM IT IS FOR.

FAQ
These trade-in values are really low!
While that may be true, if you combine the games with the right promotion they can work to your advantage. There are knowledgeable people in this thread that are normally willing to help.

Is there any way to look at what the previous values reported on a game?
You can search through this thread and previous ones to see what a game has been reported in the past. With the TIV Tracker you can sort by date and then go through the list of past updated values through that as well. Here are the previous GS TIV Threads: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9.

Can I trade-in sealed games?
No. You might come across the rare GameStop that would let you do it, but they are going to open them anyway.

Do trade-ins have to have their original case, insert and manual?
No, however it will be YMMV on if they charge you a refurbish fee for them in that condition. Most GameStops wont charge a fee but there are some that charge for incomplete games.

Will they accept my game if it is really beat up?
YMMV. It really all depends upon the employee you get. Some will charge refurbish fees, some wont, some wont accept the game and others just take them without a second glance.

What are the refurb fees on games?
There appears to be set prices for set value ranges. We aren't 100% certain on the splits just yet. Here is what we have currently:
$0.25-$2 Value:
$0.75 Refurb Fee
$2.01-$4 Value: $1 Refurb Fee
$4.01-$7 Value: $2 Refurb Fee
$7.01-$10 Value: $3 Refurb Fee
$10.01 & Higher Value: $4 Refurb Fee
This information isn't guaranteed by any mean and we are still working on nailing it down.

I have a Collector's/Limited/Special edition of a game, do I have to trade-in all of the extras?
No, but there are a handful of games that their variations have separate listings at GameStop: Madden 09 Anniversary Edition, Battlefield: Bad Company Gold Edition, and a few others.

Why didn't the percent bonus go for my accessory for a system that was included?
Unless stated otherwise, and they are rarely included, the bonuses never apply to accessories. Except the EDGE card of course.

I traded in a bunch of games for the "Trade X, get $X bonus" promo and it gave me the percentage bonus instead?
I can't give concretes on why this happens. GameStop computers are normally pretty good at giving you the better promo. In the case of a percentage bonus being run at the same time as a "Trade X, get $X" promo, things can get messy. The system appears to only give one promo on games per transaction so if you had a few games that you want to go to the percentage bonus and a stack for the "Trade X, Get $X" it will regularly apply the percentage to all of the games. Your best bet is to do all "Trade X, Get $X" games in one transaction on their own. The GameStop clerk may say that the system will figure it all out, tell them you want a separate transaction anyway. As always, check your receipt before you leave the store.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
YMMV. The official policy is no, but there are some GameStops that overlook that rule.

What all do I have to trade in for a console trade-in?
Xbox 360: Console Unit, power brick, A/V Cables, Controller (wired/wireless)
Wii: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cables, Wiimote, Nunchuck, Sensor Bar
Playstation 3: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller, USB Cable
Playstation 2: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller (Must be a DualShock2)
GameCube: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller
PSP: Handheld, A/C Adapter
Nintendo DS/DSLite/DSi: Handheld, A/C Adapter, Stylus

Can I trade in a defective/broken console?
For the most part yes. If it powers on but doesn't play games, they will take the console as a refurb unit and put a refurb fee on the console. The refurb fee on the console will vary on the price of the console so those numbers will change. You are still required to trade in everything required listed in the question directly above. They will not, however, take RROD 360 consoles. There may be stores that still do it, but official policy is to not take them in.

How much does an EDGE card subscription cost?
It costs $14.99 and is good for a year. It also comes with a 1-year subscription to Game Informer magazine.

What bonuses come with having an EDGE card?
You will get an extra 10% trade-in credit on the base value of the game and an extra 10% off the purchase of used games.

Does the EDGE Card give me a bonus on hardware trade-ins?
No. You will only get the bonus for games and accessories.

What if I want cash instead of credit, what do they deduct?
If you decide that you want cash instead of credit, they will take 20% off the base values and promos will not apply.

Does promo "....." have a minimum trade-in value?
If the promo has a minimum trade-in value requirement, it will be listed in the promo. If it isn't there, then there is no limit. However, as with all trades, they are subject to manager approval so the manager could have setup his own little rule-set requiring a minimum of whatever.

I used a Power Trade promo for a pre-order, can I cancel that pre-order and get the credit or move it to another game I want?
Yes on both accounts. However, if you do a bunch of the power trades and just straight drop the pre-order you could create some ill-will between yourself and the employees you cancel on.

I just tried to use a promo that has a select list of games eligible, but they say my game isn't eligible anymore, what gives?
Basically they have the right to change the eligible games at any time. They tend to update these frequently so as to lock out any easy/cheap games. It's best to check the eligible list the day of your trade.

Can I stack two different trade-in promos?
No. The only thing that will stack with trade-ins is your EDGE card.

If I pay for an item using all credit on my card, do I have to pay sales tax?
This varies depending upon the state you live in.

What states charge sales tax on purchases paid in full with credit and which ones don't?
Charge Sales Tax on Credit Purchases: Alabama, Arkansas, California, Florida, Hawaii, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Utah, West Virginia
Does Not Charge Sales Tax on Credit Purchases: Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Delaware, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Oregon, South Carolina, Texas, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin, Wyoming
No Information Yet: Connecticut, Idaho, Mississippi, Nevada, New Mexico, Rhode Island, South Dakota

My state doesn't charge sales tax on purchases made by credit, why is gamestop.com charging me tax?
It is just the way they have designed their system. The best theory we have seen is that since you are only inputting the number off of the back of the card, it isn't going to pick up the programming from the specially tagged EDGE cards. Some kind of programming that gets input from their system that wont show up when only inputting the number off the back of the card.

First post contains promo information and the FAQ. Second post has the 360/Wii/PS3 values. Third post has the PS2/GC values. Fourth post has DS/PSP/GBA values.

No.
.... If they don't have any in stock, then you can't do the trade in offer, simple as that.
Yep, that will probably kill me getting one since I can't be there during the week when they open at all.

Wish they would just let you trade up on a pre order until it comes into stock. I'm not calling the store every damn day just to see if they have stock, then have them tell me yeah we do. Then get to the store only to have the last one bought before I got there.

Well...they are bound to announce the Arcade redesign, that one will probably be matte...and it will be announced pretty soon from what the interwebs are saying.

Fantastic. I plan to trade a whole mess of stuff into the store I work at once we get them in.

Trading in...
360 + wireless controller ($100)
Extra wireless controller ($25)
3 PSP games (Value + $10)
3 360 games (Value + $10)
2 PS2 and 1 DS game (Value + $10)
3 select Wii games (3 x $25)
3 UMD Movies (Value, uncertain about bonus $10)
20 gig HDD ($30)
Bunch of GBA games (Likely < $10)
+Edge card bonus

Upwards of $250 for the lot.

$10 for 3 deal doesn't work with ps2 games. And I'd assume the same goes for UMD movies.

I just hope it has a small HDD in it and no wifi. I could care less about the wifi but a small HDD would be a must as I was just going to transfer the HDD on my pro to an arcade when it finally died.

It won't unfortunately.

I traded in a core w/wireless controller last week and got $130 b/c of the $25 promo. $100 for a core now is a little disappointing.

I just called some local GS, they've been flooded with calls and are only getting 4 on Friday and no idea what the shipment schedules are.

This is a great deal for me and I'm very disheartened that GS is already going to be short on consoles. Whether this is by design or because there really aren't enough to go around, demand has just gone higher than it already is with this deal.

Either I'll be waiting a while and hope I can snag one before July 11 or I will miss out. Sigh.

Could buy the system online, return it to your store, trade-in your current xbox and then rebuy your 250gb xbox...this is what I'm doing...and I wont have to camp out at my gamestop to ensure I get a system!

Just traded in my out of warranty/non-hdmi/sometimes non disc reading 360 for $85. Sweet deal considering I replaced it with a $100 new jasper arcade w/ banjo/viva pinata.

I also traded in 7 games and got a bonus of $20 automatically. So each set of 3 games triggers the $10 bonus.

Bangai-O Spirits DS $1.50
Lego Star Wars: Complete DS $7.00
Advance Wars Days of Ruin DS $2.25
Prey 360 $0.75
Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts $6.00
Simpsons 360 $6.00
Red Faction Guerilla $4.00

I'm starting to wonder if they would have taken my super scuzzy wired headset and 2 barely able to hold a charge battery packs. Why did I throw those gems out ... :)

For what it's worth, please don't blame Gamestop or any other store for Microsoft's decision to not inform them on anything regarding the new Xboxes. Prepare yourselves to be disappointed because it's most likely not going to go smoothly.

True this. I'm almost considering just getting a shitload of MS points for this week's sale of arcade games and just say fuck getting a new system.

I don't blame Gamestop but to put a trade in deal up when you have no idea if you will even be able to honor it is kind of stupid. Put that deal up after you know you will have the stock to support it. it's not rocket science.

Yeah, this point really needs to be stressed. I'm sure more are on the way, but I think this initial shipment is just to build hype/to say they got them out at E3.

GS is not stupid when it comes to making money. 24 days is longer then most of you think don't be surprised if that's enough time for the 2nd 3rd and possible 4th shipment of new models. If there is a shortage they'll probably extend the offer I'm not super optimistic for Friday but I am more then 95% certain I will get to take advantage of this offer. As will most of you who really want to.

I don't think GS ever has many consoles in stock even when they first launch. Their stores are smaller and don't have the inventory of the big box shops. Maybe I'm wrong.

Either way I don't really blame them or M$. It'd be nice to have enough for all but doesn't usually work that way.

I wonder if there will be enough before July 11 for me to just walk in and trade up. I can't afford to show up at 10am on a weekday, which doesn't guarantee it will be there anyway, and weekends you know they won't have them. Maybe I'll get lucky on a lunch break or something. meanwhile I may be driving around with an old 360 in my trunk until then.

called a couple GS's by me here in phoenix. Said that they will begin taking the trade-in's tomorrow and that you can reserve a system by trading in the old system. Also that they will have them on Friday for certain but possibly Thursday.

I'd think they will extend the offer as well. To those bitching about the promo when they won't even have many in stock, wtf?? Would you rather them not do the promo at all??? As for everyone getting one who really wants one, You won't find one in B&M stores Friday unless you get really really lucky. You can always overpay by $150 on ebay though on Friday:lol:

yep, that is my big issue with the whole thing. I can't be there at opening every day since I work 3rd shift. I am not doing a big song and dance just to get this deal. If I don't get it, oh well. They just don't get my money.

I traded in two games yesterday Eternal Sonata and NSMB because of the guranteed $25 TIV and somehow the transaction went through twice and I got $107 after edge. I was amazed to check out and find out I had $47 left(I didn't it was a glitch at the time til I checked the receit later, I was wondering how I hade $50 in credit and didn't know) and it was a good thing I grabbed a couple more games because apparently Gamespot noticed the problem. I had $3 and some change left yesterday and now when I check my balance it shows $0.00. :)

Has this happened to anyone else before?

Hah. Called my manager (Gamestop) and he just told me to come in before we opened (I have a key) so I could be first in line for the 360s. I guess my store is only getting 4 of them, one of which will be mine, another one will be my co-workers.

This is a reason why I'm not going in early and I'll take advantage of it later in the promotion. If most places are only getting 4-6 in, you gotta figure at least 2 are going to employees.

Yep, that is probably going to be the case everywhere. I do feel bad, briefly, when I rob another person from getting one, but I then I realize I don't care.

Two Quick Questions:

1. Does it matter if my Xbox doesn't have an HDMI port? Mine is component only.

2. So say I buy a 16GB USB drive. I can just copy the data and put it on the new Slim, and then just transfer the DRM rights? Really not wanting to give Microsoft another $20, but could probably put to use a USB drive.

So what are some stores getting them early tomorrow instead of on Friday?

What sucks the most is that they are only giving the extra money for your HDD during the purchase of the new console so how are we supposed to transfer our data? Its transfer the data or give it up to trade it in for more value.

Sounds like you have a good GS there. That is definitely a YMMV type of thing.

Doesn't matter about the component-only system, mine is the same.

Correct about the transfer process, I transferred my data to a drive earlier, and it was pretty alarming when I realized it simultaneously deletes the data off your 360 drive.

i have a question about trading in a phat ps2 i have the box all the chords and original controller even have two memory cards this is in excellent condition However the warranty is voided i opened the system to clean it will gamestop accept this? thanks.!
Wondering how many of you are trading in your MW2 consoles?
I won't trade mine in. It simply isn't worth it. I'll sell the whole LE kit for 300+ bones, but you won't catch me participating in this GameStop robbery. When I trade things in, I consider what I paid for it, not what it's selling for at that time. When I bought my original xbox, it was 400 dollars for the PRO. When it RROD'd on me, and I took it in to BB with my warranty, the price had changed, and I had to argue with them that I bought a warranty on a 400 dollar item, and it should be treated as such. I paid up the extra 50 for an elite. A 450 dollar system that I still have won't ever be traded for the likes of a measly 100 dollars, even if it is one of the inferior "first elite" models.

Anyway, I've Already listed my CoD MW2 xbox kit on craigslist for 300 firm and some idiot emailed me offering 225. Lawl.

People are literally trading in upwards of like...700 bucks of shit (at original purchase) just to get these 300 dollar xboxes. GS will turn around and sell them for at least 80% of the price of the new ones.
Yep, that is probably going to be the case everywhere. I do feel bad, briefly, when I rob another person from getting one, but I then I realize I don't care.
Nah I don't blame you, I'd do it as well. It'll just keep me from taking off work to stand in line for nothing.

Thanks.

Yeah, it's not like I get any money off of it anyway, I just have a better opportunity to get one.

I'm sorry, but this sort of thinking simply isn't the way supply and demand works when it comes to electronics. Old shit is not worth some fraction of what it once was. It is worth some fraction of what the newest model can be purchased for. I don't care if you bought your console for 450. Why would I pay you 300 for your used, dusty, pet slobbered on shit if I can go out and buy a brand new shiny one with a new 1 year warranty (and smaller, AND with WIFI, AND KINECT READY!) for that price?

This is simply faulty logic, but good luck in your endeavors nonetheless.

They give you up to a week after purchase to come back and trade it in, take your receipt to prove you bought a slim and they will give you the bonus credit.

See this sucks because I want to use that credit towards the purchase of the new 360. I don't want additional credit leftover.

To each his own, I think its a great thing that video games, console and accessories have trade in value at all. When I trade stuff in I don't think about how much I originally spent on it, I think about the fact that I got my moneys worth out of it, and still have the ability to get some value for it.
