I've received a couple pm's from people wanting to contribute prices but don't want to get harassed about selling to someone or getting more at place x. If this is the case for anyone, you can pm me any values and I'll update them in the list and database.

Also, the CAG Trade-In Value Tracker is now live and accessible from the main navigation.
Instructions on finding games in the database and inputting the values from different sections can be found in my blog post here: http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/blog.php?b=14143. I would put the entire post in the thread but this is already kind of a large post.

PLEASE POST BASE VALUES & SYSTEM IT IS FOR.

FAQ
These trade-in values are really low!
While that may be true, if you combine the games with the right promotion they can work to your advantage. There are knowledgeable people in this thread that are normally willing to help.

Is there any way to look at what the previous values reported on a game?
You can search through this thread and previous ones to see what a game has been reported in the past. With the TIV Tracker you can sort by date and then go through the list of past updated values through that as well. Here are the previous GS TIV Threads: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9.

Can I trade-in sealed games?
No. You might come across the rare GameStop that would let you do it, but they are going to open them anyway.

Do trade-ins have to have their original case, insert and manual?
No, however it will be YMMV on if they charge you a refurbish fee for them in that condition. Most GameStops wont charge a fee but there are some that charge for incomplete games.

Will they accept my game if it is really beat up?
YMMV. It really all depends upon the employee you get. Some will charge refurbish fees, some wont, some wont accept the game and others just take them without a second glance.

What are the refurb fees on games?
There appears to be set prices for set value ranges. We aren't 100% certain on the splits just yet. Here is what we have currently:
$0.25-$2 Value:
$0.75 Refurb Fee
$2.01-$4 Value: $1 Refurb Fee
$4.01-$7 Value: $2 Refurb Fee
$7.01-$10 Value: $3 Refurb Fee
$10.01 & Higher Value: $4 Refurb Fee
This information isn't guaranteed by any mean and we are still working on nailing it down.

I have a Collector's/Limited/Special edition of a game, do I have to trade-in all of the extras?
No, but there are a handful of games that their variations have separate listings at GameStop: Madden 09 Anniversary Edition, Battlefield: Bad Company Gold Edition, and a few others.

Why didn't the percent bonus go for my accessory for a system that was included?
Unless stated otherwise, and they are rarely included, the bonuses never apply to accessories. Except the EDGE card of course.

I traded in a bunch of games for the "Trade X, get $X bonus" promo and it gave me the percentage bonus instead?
I can't give concretes on why this happens. GameStop computers are normally pretty good at giving you the better promo. In the case of a percentage bonus being run at the same time as a "Trade X, get $X" promo, things can get messy. The system appears to only give one promo on games per transaction so if you had a few games that you want to go to the percentage bonus and a stack for the "Trade X, Get $X" it will regularly apply the percentage to all of the games. Your best bet is to do all "Trade X, Get $X" games in one transaction on their own. The GameStop clerk may say that the system will figure it all out, tell them you want a separate transaction anyway. As always, check your receipt before you leave the store.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
YMMV. The official policy is no, but there are some GameStops that overlook that rule.

What all do I have to trade in for a console trade-in?
Xbox 360: Console Unit, power brick, A/V Cables, Controller (wired/wireless)
Wii: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cables, Wiimote, Nunchuck, Sensor Bar
Playstation 3: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller, USB Cable
Playstation 2: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller (Must be a DualShock2)
GameCube: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller
PSP: Handheld, A/C Adapter
Nintendo DS/DSLite/DSi: Handheld, A/C Adapter, Stylus

Can I trade in a defective/broken console?
For the most part yes. If it powers on but doesn't play games, they will take the console as a refurb unit and put a refurb fee on the console. The refurb fee on the console will vary on the price of the console so those numbers will change. You are still required to trade in everything required listed in the question directly above. They will not, however, take RROD 360 consoles. There may be stores that still do it, but official policy is to not take them in.

How much does an EDGE card subscription cost?
It costs $14.99 and is good for a year. It also comes with a 1-year subscription to Game Informer magazine.

What bonuses come with having an EDGE card?
You will get an extra 10% trade-in credit on the base value of the game and an extra 10% off the purchase of used games.

Does the EDGE Card give me a bonus on hardware trade-ins?
No. You will only get the bonus for games and accessories.

What if I want cash instead of credit, what do they deduct?
If you decide that you want cash instead of credit, they will take 20% off the base values and promos will not apply.

Does promo "....." have a minimum trade-in value?
If the promo has a minimum trade-in value requirement, it will be listed in the promo. If it isn't there, then there is no limit. However, as with all trades, they are subject to manager approval so the manager could have setup his own little rule-set requiring a minimum of whatever.

I used a Power Trade promo for a pre-order, can I cancel that pre-order and get the credit or move it to another game I want?
Yes on both accounts. However, if you do a bunch of the power trades and just straight drop the pre-order you could create some ill-will between yourself and the employees you cancel on.

I just tried to use a promo that has a select list of games eligible, but they say my game isn't eligible anymore, what gives?
Basically they have the right to change the eligible games at any time. They tend to update these frequently so as to lock out any easy/cheap games. It's best to check the eligible list the day of your trade.

Can I stack two different trade-in promos?
No. The only thing that will stack with trade-ins is your EDGE card.

If I pay for an item using all credit on my card, do I have to pay sales tax?
This varies depending upon the state you live in.

What states charge sales tax on purchases paid in full with credit and which ones don't?
Charge Sales Tax on Credit Purchases: Alabama, Arkansas, California, Florida, Hawaii, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Utah, West Virginia
Does Not Charge Sales Tax on Credit Purchases: Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Delaware, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Oregon, South Carolina, Texas, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin, Wyoming
No Information Yet: Connecticut, Idaho, Mississippi, Nevada, New Mexico, Rhode Island, South Dakota

My state doesn't charge sales tax on purchases made by credit, why is gamestop.com charging me tax?
It is just the way they have designed their system. The best theory we have seen is that since you are only inputting the number off of the back of the card, it isn't going to pick up the programming from the specially tagged EDGE cards. Some kind of programming that gets input from their system that wont show up when only inputting the number off the back of the card.

First post contains promo information and the FAQ. Second post has the 360/Wii/PS3 values. Third post has the PS2/GC values. Fourth post has DS/PSP/GBA values.
I'm sorry, but this sort of thinking simply isn't the way supply and demand works when it comes to electronics. Old shit is not worth some fraction of what it once was. It is worth some fraction of what the newest model can be purchased for. I don't care if you bought your console for 450. Why would I pay you 300 for your used, dusty, pet slobbered on shit if I can go out and buy a brand new shiny one with a new 1 year warranty (and smaller, AND with WIFI, AND KINECT READY!) for that price?

This is simply faulty logic, but good luck in your endeavors nonetheless.
If you're a consumer looking to purchase a new one, then sure. You're welcome to take your money to a store and purchase a new one, have at it.

But the way I see it, I'm not in a hurry to get rid of a MW2 console just so I can get this Alienware-cased Xbox. As such, I'm in no hurry to accept 100 bones for something I paid 400 for. If someone wants to pay me 300 (considering I've only owned it for 5 months, and unlike you, pets don't slobber on, nor have access to my things. They invented Media Cabinets years ago for this sort of thing. Invest.) for something in like-new condition, that comes with 2 controllers, a different artwork on the console than normal, and a game, then that's their choice, and I'll be happy to facilitate it.

When it comes to used shit, Gamestop proves every day that logic doesn't prevail when they hand you 25 bucks for a game you paid 60 for a week ago.

Actually, when you look at the resale value of consumer products, video games have much, much higher value, even with the Gamestop trade-in values. It's always interesting to see people bitching about how "little" they're getting for a product they used and are reselling.

Try that with a microwave, or a couch. You'll get < 20% of their original purchase value.

Household appliances/furniture != video games. Not really a comparison to be made there.

I also don't think either of those items have the demand that video games do.

When you sell a car, you can either take whatever the dealer gives you (Gamestop, in this case), or you an hold on and try to sell private party where you have more control over the selling price. Same concept.

So what's your point? You want 100% of your video game products' values when reselling?

Well, ok then. Why are you posting in this thread, again?

OK, on a more related topic...

Can anyone confirm that reservations are accepted or is this up to each GS store?

My point is that you guys have no point, and this conversation goes in circles, which is why I didn't quote any of your posts and tell you how I felt about your thought processes when it comes to trading consoles. Take a look on over at page 106. I was originally responding to a question asked of how many people would be trading in MW2 consoles before Armstrong decided to comment that I have terrible S&D logic.

End of conversation.

dude. seriously. gtfo.

if you don't want to do it, don't do it.

but the rest of us have looked at this from many many angles to see if we can get a good deal. If the deal is good to us, what does it matter to you?

I swear to god jp, I wish you could talk a mod into banning anyone who starts with the "you guys are stupid for trading to gs" bullshit. It happens once a week.

Why are people getting their panties in such a twist over actually taking advantage of this deal? THE FIRST SHIPMENT HASNT ARRIVED YET, NO EXPIRATION DATE HAS BEEN SOLIDLY CONFIRMED YET.

Sheesh people, I know I am excited to pick it up (which is weird because it really is the same damn system I already own, and normally I wouldn't care, but the fact that one of the main reasons I'm getting it is to get a system that much less likely won't fail on me doesnt make me exactly happy).

So basically, the Xbox360 install base is huge (meaning it's not like nobody owns one and every interested gamer will be purchasing one) and the economy sucks AND it's being sold in other places aside from GS.

Sure, some GS's have gotten "100 calls" about it, but come on people, it's just a console revision, YOU WILL BE ABLE TO BUY ONE, just keep saying that mantra.

I wasn't concerned at all when I thought about the logistics of trying to snag one during the offer, I calmly sought to find out when the expiration date would occur and when I do "that will be the window with which I need to pick one up". Outside of the Wii and Nintendo's asshattery as far as actually getting around to making a good supply of them, I don't find it very disconerting at all whether anyone who wants to take advantage of the upgrade offer will be able to.

I still am not sure what GS will do with that many shitty hand me downs (they can't be in THAT high demand), but good luck to em'.

Anybody know what are the tradein prices for a PS3 controller if it has SixAxis and DualShock 3 on it? It's on a seperate name on the TIV guide.

Regarding the deal's expiration date, Offer valid 6/17/10 - 7/11/10. On GameStop's website about the deal.

On a sort of related side note, my Xbox 360 "slim" and transfer cable has been shipped. I should have it on Friday which I will head over to GameStop to trade in my older system. :D

Ordered mine of gamestop earlier this evening with overnight/next day delivery, already verifying...so I guess I might get it tomorrow if it ships tonight...but probably friday.

Am I reading the OP right, Star Wars Force Unleashed Sith Edition has a gauranteed $25 TIV?

also, kinda sucks that the trade 3 get 10 is happening right now, I have all high value games I wanna trade in... no percent/tiered trade-in kinda sucks.

Okay, going to go on kind of a rant so bear with me. This thread is for discussing/reporting the trade-in values and promos that GameStop is currently having. This is not the place to discuss how someone's percentages of a failure rate on a console are incorrect, how eBay is the end all be all for getting rid of everything you've ever owned, or to discuss the principle of supply and demand or anything other broad economics. You want to talk about how every year GameStop drops the value of the previous Madden to $2 when the new one comes out, go right ahead. I don't even mind the "you can get more somewhere else" as long as it's
A) Not disrespectful to people in the thread that are taking advantage of the deals.
B) Written intelligently. I know I'm asking a lot on that one.
C) State your piece and be done, don't drag it out for 3 pages about how you are right and everyone else is retarded.
Oh yeah, please read the first post people. A lot of questions can be answered by reading the text in the promos or the FAQ that is below. You have ideas to make things easier to read/follow. By all means let me know.

Answering some questions that I didn't see had been directly responded to.
Can I trade in 2 360s towards the Slim? If not, would I get lower values for the 2nd 360?
We are unsure yet, but it would likely require a manual override from a manager to do if past promos are any indication.
anybody know the TIV for a psp 2000?
The last reported value is in post #4 of the thread under the PSP section.
i have a question about trading in a phat ps2 i have the box all the chords and original controller even have two memory cards this is in excellent condition However the warranty is voided i opened the system to clean it will gamestop accept this? thanks.!
They probably won't take. They are supposed to check for the intact warranty stickers/seals. You might be able to trade it in depending upon how closely they look but don't expect to be able to trade it in.
So I still pay tax on the Slim with the trade ins, right?
This would depend upon your state/county/city laws for pawn shops or however GameStop get's classified. We have a list in the FAQ on the first page of states that normally do and don't charge tax on purchase made in full with store credit.

I have a question about trading in a console. If I have a red xbox controller instead of the black one that the elite comes with is that ok? Or do I need to hunt down a black one to trade in my elite for the whole $100?

I wonder:
Hypothetically speaking, could you buy the $149 Arcade deal Walmart and Amazon are offering (comes with two games +$50 video game credit/gift card),
keep the games and the gift card,
and trade the rest for $100 towards a new Xbox slim at Gamestop?

Anyone?

I don't see why you couldn't do that. You won't be making a huge profit but you might make a little.

you could, (if your local gamestop has it in stock), but i mean i don't think your really making any considerable profit or anything. your spending $150, and ending up with $100 GS credit, $50 amazon credit, and 2 games which you can get for around ~$20 together somewhere or another. so unless you really really want those 2 games, it seems like it isnt worth the effort.

Indeed you could. Target is having the same deal as well. It's very enticing especially with the ridiculous amount of target gift cards I have lying around. I believe it's only one game because Banjo Kazooie and Viva Pinata come in the same case just like Forza 2 and ODST.

Hi guys, I tried following this thread, but it seems to be growing at such a fast rate. Wanted to share some info I received from a GS employee today, and see if anyone else has heard the same thing.

So I drove past a GS tonight, thought I'd walk in and ask about how the whole 360 slim deal is going to go down this week. Guy told me he's only getting 4, and that it's first come, first served. Other than that, didn't give any details. So when I got home, decided I should call the GS near my work since if I have any shot on Friday at getting one, it would have to be by my work.

So I call the game, and he starts with the same spiel, that they're only getting a few copies on Friday and it's first come, first served. Okay, so for the hell of it I ask the guy if they are taking pre-orders, or if he knew when they were starting reserves. This is what he tells me:

"Well, we won't EVER be doing reserves on this 360 SKU. However, we are going to be reserving the 360 Slim Kinect bundle, which is coming out when Kinect releases. We'll be offering this at a price of $399.99, which is $50 off if purchased separately."

Now I don't know if anyone else has mentioned this here, but that was news to me, as I don't remember Microsoft announcing this at all. I asked him when pre-orders for that would start, and he didn't know. Then I went for the home run, and asked if the current 360 trade-in deal would work when reserving that bundle. He went "What 360 trade-in deal?" I started telling him about the $100 deal, and he went "The only system trade in deal we have is the $25 additional for a system." I mentioned how I saw the $100 deal on the website, and he goes "That's the website, that's separate from us." I just went "Uh, ok," and hung up.

I'm gonna try to talk to someone else tomorrow, but has anyone else heard about this? If this is true, then I'm totally down trading in my 360 now to get in on this deal AND save $50 on kinect when it releases. Only game I have to play on 360 right now is Alan Wake and eventually Halo: Reach, but I can wait a month or two to play each. So has anyone else heard anything like this? Thanks!

Thanks!
I want to say that the kinect deal that he is talking about is a bundle that will come out in November. So if you wanted that bundle you would have to wait until November to get the slim.

There will be a bundle when Kinect launches this fall, that I can assure you. We don't know how much it will be yet for either that bundle or Kinect by itself. We will simply have to wait.

How safe/reliable is the shipping of consoles from Gamestop? Worried about getting something beat up as opposed to from a pallet.

Also, any confirmation on no 3 year, and only 1 year warranties?

So does anyone know if all gamestops will allow you to buy it online and return it and buy it again?? Thinking of just doing that, so I know I will get one for sure.

For those worrying about trading in the HDD, just buy a 16 flash drive and then copy the save files, your profile and important videos. DLC can be downloaded again later so just remember the dlc you downloaded.

You don't even have to worry bout that. Microsoft keeps a download history anyways accessible from the Account Management section of your 360, or on Marketplace on the web.

I personally will be getting up early on Friday and camping out in front of my Local Gamestop. Since Friday is my bday and all I got the day off.

Wow, they must have just put that up within the last hour or so because I checked earlier in the afternoon and it was not yet listed.

Ok, so now we have a timeframe, and it's not bad at all. I'd be leisurely about it but considering the main reason I want to do this is to dump my old pro so it doesn't fail, I want to get rid of it before anything unlucky happens :p .

Yeah, but if you're like me, that would mean having to go through a list of over 1000 items (like gamerpics, themes, trailers, demos, etc) since Microsoft isn't intelligent enough to have a nice "search by catergory" option.

I got my original Xbox from them as well as ps3 fat shipped with no problems.
Anybody know what are the tradein prices for a PS3 controller if it has SixAxis and DualShock 3 on it? It's on a seperate name on the TIV guide.
I just wanted to quote myself, because I know this question would get buried.

I have too. And I download a lot. But an upgrade like this is a good reminder that some of this stuff I really do not need or want anymore etc.

Plus most of themes and pics and some games plus profiles and ALL my saves have been backed up to a 8GB usb drive just gotta plug that into the new console when I get it Friday and move it all onto the new 250GB drive, do a license transfer and redownload and I'm good to go.

That would be considered a dual shock controller to them. All Dual Shocks have sixaxis. Some just don't say it.

Anyone?

sounds like a lot of hassle and too much trouble really. I don't know why you would order it online, then try to return it in store and repurchase it again. I know it is because you probably want to trade in your 360 and take advantage of the promotion but that's just it..you are kinda working around the system and purpose of the promotion. Just go to the store early or send someone you trust to get it for you. I wouldn't order it online, then wait for it to arrive and then go to the store and explain to them what you are doing. Just a mess and going to mix them up and all.

So I can trade in my 20GB old 360 with wireless controller and get $100, and also trade in my wireless adapter for $40? For a total of $140? Is that right?

You'd also get the value of the 20GB hard drive, which is $20, I think. So I'm thinking $160?

20gb HDD is $30 TIV for this promotion only so he would get $170 if he is dumping the HDD too.

You get 30 bucks for the 20gb HDD, so you would get 170, or 173.60 I believe with EDGe
