Instructions on finding games in the database and inputting the values from different sections can be found in my blog post here: http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/blog.php?b=14143. I would put the entire post in the thread but this is already kind of a large post.

PLEASE POST BASE VALUES & SYSTEM IT IS FOR.

FAQ
These trade-in values are really low!
While that may be true, if you combine the games with the right promotion they can work to your advantage. There are knowledgeable people in this thread that are normally willing to help.

Is there any way to look at what the previous values reported on a game?
You can search through this thread and previous ones to see what a game has been reported in the past. With the TIV Tracker you can sort by date and then go through the list of past updated values through that as well. Here are the previous GS TIV Threads: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9.

Can I trade-in sealed games?
No. You might come across the rare GameStop that would let you do it, but they are going to open them anyway.

Do trade-ins have to have their original case, insert and manual?
No, however it will be YMMV on if they charge you a refurbish fee for them in that condition. Most GameStops wont charge a fee but there are some that charge for incomplete games.

Will they accept my game if it is really beat up?
YMMV. It really all depends upon the employee you get. Some will charge refurbish fees, some wont, some wont accept the game and others just take them without a second glance.

What are the refurb fees on games?
There appears to be set prices for set value ranges. We aren't 100% certain on the splits just yet. Here is what we have currently:
$0.25-$2 Value:
$0.75 Refurb Fee
$2.01-$4 Value: $1 Refurb Fee
$4.01-$7 Value: $2 Refurb Fee
$7.01-$10 Value: $3 Refurb Fee
$10.01 & Higher Value: $4 Refurb Fee
This information isn't guaranteed by any mean and we are still working on nailing it down.

I have a Collector's/Limited/Special edition of a game, do I have to trade-in all of the extras?
No, but there are a handful of games that their variations have separate listings at GameStop: Madden 09 Anniversary Edition, Battlefield: Bad Company Gold Edition, and a few others.

Why didn't the percent bonus go for my accessory for a system that was included?
Unless stated otherwise, and they are rarely included, the bonuses never apply to accessories. Except the EDGE card of course.

I traded in a bunch of games for the "Trade X, get $X bonus" promo and it gave me the percentage bonus instead?
I can't give concretes on why this happens. GameStop computers are normally pretty good at giving you the better promo. In the case of a percentage bonus being run at the same time as a "Trade X, get $X" promo, things can get messy. The system appears to only give one promo on games per transaction so if you had a few games that you want to go to the percentage bonus and a stack for the "Trade X, Get $X" it will regularly apply the percentage to all of the games. Your best bet is to do all "Trade X, Get $X" games in one transaction on their own. The GameStop clerk may say that the system will figure it all out, tell them you want a separate transaction anyway. As always, check your receipt before you leave the store.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
YMMV. The official policy is no, but there are some GameStops that overlook that rule.

What all do I have to trade in for a console trade-in?
Xbox 360: Console Unit, power brick, A/V Cables, Controller (wired/wireless)
Wii: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cables, Wiimote, Nunchuck, Sensor Bar
Playstation 3: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller, USB Cable
Playstation 2: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller (Must be a DualShock2)
GameCube: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller
PSP: Handheld, A/C Adapter
Nintendo DS/DSLite/DSi: Handheld, A/C Adapter, Stylus

Can I trade in a defective/broken console?
For the most part yes. If it powers on but doesn't play games, they will take the console as a refurb unit and put a refurb fee on the console. The refurb fee on the console will vary on the price of the console so those numbers will change. You are still required to trade in everything required listed in the question directly above. They will not, however, take RROD 360 consoles. There may be stores that still do it, but official policy is to not take them in.

How much does an EDGE card subscription cost?
It costs $14.99 and is good for a year. It also comes with a 1-year subscription to Game Informer magazine.

What bonuses come with having an EDGE card?
You will get an extra 10% trade-in credit on the base value of the game and an extra 10% off the purchase of used games.

Does the EDGE Card give me a bonus on hardware trade-ins?
No. You will only get the bonus for games and accessories.

What if I want cash instead of credit, what do they deduct?
If you decide that you want cash instead of credit, they will take 20% off the base values and promos will not apply.

Does promo "....." have a minimum trade-in value?
If the promo has a minimum trade-in value requirement, it will be listed in the promo. If it isn't there, then there is no limit. However, as with all trades, they are subject to manager approval so the manager could have setup his own little rule-set requiring a minimum of whatever.

I used a Power Trade promo for a pre-order, can I cancel that pre-order and get the credit or move it to another game I want?
Yes on both accounts. However, if you do a bunch of the power trades and just straight drop the pre-order you could create some ill-will between yourself and the employees you cancel on.

I just tried to use a promo that has a select list of games eligible, but they say my game isn't eligible anymore, what gives?
Basically they have the right to change the eligible games at any time. They tend to update these frequently so as to lock out any easy/cheap games. It's best to check the eligible list the day of your trade.

Can I stack two different trade-in promos?
No. The only thing that will stack with trade-ins is your EDGE card.

If I pay for an item using all credit on my card, do I have to pay sales tax?
This varies depending upon the state you live in.

What states charge sales tax on purchases paid in full with credit and which ones don't?
Charge Sales Tax on Credit Purchases: Alabama, Arkansas, California, Florida, Hawaii, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Utah, West Virginia
Does Not Charge Sales Tax on Credit Purchases: Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Delaware, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Oregon, South Carolina, Texas, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin, Wyoming
No Information Yet: Connecticut, Idaho, Mississippi, Nevada, New Mexico, Rhode Island, South Dakota

My state doesn't charge sales tax on purchases made by credit, why is gamestop.com charging me tax?
It is just the way they have designed their system. The best theory we have seen is that since you are only inputting the number off of the back of the card, it isn't going to pick up the programming from the specially tagged EDGE cards. Some kind of programming that gets input from their system that wont show up when only inputting the number off the back of the card.

First post contains promo information and the FAQ. Second post has the 360/Wii/PS3 values. Third post has the PS2/GC values. Fourth post has DS/PSP/GBA values.

Hmmmm debating on trading. I only have a 60 gb drive and been wanting a 250 Since that would cost me around 100 anyways (lowest I have seen it on sale for) so I would end up getting a slim for 105 with my trade in of the system, HD, extra wired controller, and adapter. Never had an RROD but my console is 2 years old and its probably on the horizon and don't feel like messing with sending it in if it does happen.
Also wouldn't mind the wireless n.
was loading slower than normal for me this morning.

on another note called gamestop to see if they would be getting in any new model 360's guy told me around x-mas...and then said they don't have a date in the system ugh gonna be a ruff next couple of weeks :bomb:
Christmas? He probably started telling people that to shut them up so they'd stop calling.

The pages keep not loading or not loading correctly. I can't edit my lists or get the database to update properly. Will the CAG internet gods shine down upon me?
Is there really going to be a 360 Slim shortage?
Well, there's quite a demand, and with the trade-in special Gamestop is having, I wouldn't doubt it if there's a shortage for the first few weeks to a month or so.

has anyone who ordered from the gamestop website had theirs shipped yet? ordered mine last night and its still verifying, im just worried i might have not been early enough. i selected overnight shipping fyi.

Honestly I'm kind of glad theyre going to be in demand. I'm hoping that by the time I actually find one, the urge to get one will have died down to the point where I can wait till they come out with a bundle (w/games or something) for the same price.

quick question- my current 360 recently got the e74 error and i shipped it out to be repaired by microsoft. it should be back on tuesday according to the tracker, but it looks like they sent me the same unit back instead of switching it with another refurb unit (same the same serial number is being shown).

would gamestop still accept it? since i know they check to see it hasn't been opened, and i'm guessing microsoft opened my case to fix it.

I have overnight shipping, too. Veryfing. Has been saying this for the past 3 days.
Called 5 times, still saying it's "processing."
I'm about to cancel it.

if there wasn't a problem it wouldn't be gamestop glad to hear someone finally got em in thats the first store id say to anyones knowledge of actually having them

Just realized I've got a spare PS2 system I could trade in too, so that's another $25 off, plus a spare 360 power supply (Jaspser) which is another $9.25 off. And Father's Day coming too. Hmmm.

So the xbox slim has wifi so I will be able to play xbox live anywhere in my house, right? And do you think if my router was upstairs, I would still have a good connection with no lag? If it means anything I got a iphone and my wifi downstairs is amazing 3gs at all time.

You don't need to post this several times. Someone will answer it, just be patient.

No, wifi means you can only access wireless connections from space.

Yes, if your router is wireless, you will be able to access the wifi features anywhere in your house. No lag? Well that depends on your router, and your internet connection speeds.

I just don't know that demand will be as high as everyone thinks. Sure, for those of us who have tons of credit, making up the extra $160 bucks or so is easy. But for the average consumer who is shelling out $160 in real cash, I just don't think they'll be as likely to succomb to the urge to trade up.

any one?

well if they notice the warranty stick gone, probably not. just gotta hope you get someone who could care less to look.

I posted a page back that they are on backorder at GS.com with no ETA to ship.

I think the first and second shipments will be fast to go then after that, no one will want one.

Called three stores... well, two... the number for one seems to be incorrect. One said Friday/Saturday, the other said "call after 1". Eh, we'll see. I've got my old one all boxed up and ready to go.

Yeah, I called one and he said UPS shows between 12-12:30 everyday on the dot. I'm hoping they get them today instead of tomorrow, because I'm getting all my crap ready to trade in right now.

If Microsoft opens it they reseal it with a new sticker.

Depends upon how busy the store is and what the stance is they have. I know a few places around me that would do that no issue, but it will vary from GameStop to GameStop.

This is very true in general for most peoples quesitons here. Different Gamestops are different in how they treat a customer. As an example today my regular gs told me to call on Friday about when the next shipments would come compared to this other one for when I called said they had no idea of when any shipments were coming in even though I asked about today, Friday, and Sat (obviously they are saving them for themselves or friends). So in short when thinking if a gamestop will make and exception just know that it always depends on each individual store.
I'm very happy with my Xbox, but I would love a black one that's quieter and doesn't have a disc tray. I wanted an Elite for the longest time but I wanted a Jasper Elite and they weren't around in December of '08. Most X360s have a problem like I had where it scratched the hell out of a few of my games because of the vibrations from walking around or playing with my dog. I haven't had that problem since because I've been more careful, but I'd still like a new one.
Speaking of scratching, the new, slim model will still wreck your disc if you jostle the console while the disc is spinning. I still want one, but not as much now.

Sankaku Complex is NSFW!

Just a couple of quick questions for those that are doing the trade-in promo. How are you transferring your saves and licenses? I have a ton of xbla games and I assume its all tied to the console's serial number (unless I'm wrong about that). How do you get around all that before giving in the console? My 360 is a bit old and long out of warranty so I may consider this promo.

I don't typically like to deal with Gamestop, but this is one of those rare instances that seems like a pretty good deal.
So this morning I went to two Gamestops...At the first store the "new Xbox 360s" actually arrived from UPS while I was at the store, and there were only SIX systems total. Unfortunately for whatever reason the guy behind the desk said he can't even sell them until tomorrow. At the second store the guy told be they'll be getting theirs shipped to them tomorrow morning/afternoon, and that there's also only six systems in the first batch as well.
I still tried to trade in my current 360 pro and accessories anyway, but it wouldn't work because apparently you can't get these trade in values unless buying the new system in the SAME TRANSACTION. I'll be going back up there tomorrow after work, but I expect them to be gone. It looks like we might have to show a little bit of patience for this deal. I hope this information helps everyone.

Unless you plan on playing your 360 while it's strapped to your back at a rave party, I don't think you have anything to worry about. Stuff like this has happened with consoles (and other disc players) for a long time now.

i got some time around christmas....sooo i'll prob just call back after one just to be sure >.>

My phone has a 16GB mini sd card so i used a usb card reader to transfer saves.Hooking the phone up directly didn't work.

you have to transfer your license on xbox.com or you'll always have to be online when you want to play any content you bought before you got the new system.

i'm not 100% sure but i think if you had other profiles on your old xbox they wont be able to use your transfered stuff but any new profile made can use it.

Final Update: After over an hour, several calls to Gamestop customer service (Gamestop employee made the calls), the employee finally decided to just bump the accessories to the promo price. Another customer did come in and purchased one also while I was there. There are 4 left when I left Christiana Mall (Delaware) about 20 minutes ago.

Did they mention anything about returning the hard drive in 7 days for promo credit or did you go ahead and trade it in.

Can't move those darn Mass Effect 2 saves to usb :bomb:
