These trade-in values are really low!
While that may be true, if you combine the games with the right promotion they can work to your advantage. There are knowledgeable people in this thread that are normally willing to help.

Is there any way to look at what the previous values reported on a game?
You can search through this thread and previous ones to see what a game has been reported in the past. With the TIV Tracker you can sort by date and then go through the list of past updated values through that as well. Can I trade-in sealed games?
No. You might come across the rare GameStop that would let you do it, but they are going to open them anyway.

I don't want to get hassled about the values I post, how can I get the information out there?
If you do not feel comfortable or willing to put the values in the thread you have two options available. You can input them in the TIV tracker or you can send them to me via PM. Either way the database and these lists will be updated. Putting them into the TIV tracker does save me some time later on.

Do trade-ins have to have their original case, insert and manual?
No, however it will be YMMV on if they charge you a refurbish fee for them in that condition. Most GameStops wont charge a fee but there are some that charge for incomplete games.

Will they accept my game if it is really beat up?
YMMV. It really all depends upon the employee you get. Some will charge refurbish fees, some wont, some wont accept the game and others just take them without a second glance.

What are the refurb fees on games?
There appears to be set prices for set value ranges. We aren't 100% certain on the splits just yet. Here is what we have currently:
$0.25-$2 Value: $0.75 Refurb Fee
$2.01-$4 Value: $1 Refurb Fee
$4.01-$7 Value: $2 Refurb Fee
$7.01-$10 Value: $3 Refurb Fee
$10.01 & Higher Value: $4 Refurb Fee
This information isn't guaranteed by any mean and we are still working on nailing it down.

What are the refurb fees on consoles?
They are listed in the hardware TIV section, highlight in red.

I have a Collector's/Limited/Special edition of a game, do I have to trade-in all of the extras?
No, but there are a handful of games that their variations have separate listings at GameStop: Madden 09 Anniversary Edition, Battlefield: Bad Company Gold Edition, and a few others.

Why didn't the percent bonus go for my accessory for a system that was included?
Unless stated otherwise, and they are rarely included, the bonuses never apply to accessories. Except the PowerUp Rewards card of course.

I traded in a bunch of games for the "Trade X, get $X bonus" promo and it gave me the percentage bonus instead?
I can't give concretes on why this happens. GameStop computers are normally pretty good at giving you the better promo. In the case of a percentage bonus being run at the same time as a "Trade X, get $X" promo, things can get messy. The system appears to only give one promo on games per transaction so if you had a few games that you want to go to the percentage bonus and a stack for the "Trade X, Get $X" it will regularly apply the percentage to all of the games. Your best bet is to do all "Trade X, Get $X" games in one transaction on their own. The GameStop clerk may say that the system will figure it all out, tell them you want a separate transaction anyway. As always, check your receipt before you leave the store.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
YMMV. The official policy is no, but there are some GameStops that overlook that rule.

What all do I have to trade in for a console trade-in?
Xbox 360: Console Unit, power brick, A/V Cables, Controller (wired/wireless)
Wii: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cables, Wiimote, Nunchuck, Sensor Bar
Playstation 3: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller, USB Cable
PSP: Handheld, A/C Adapter
Nintendo DS/DSLite/DSi: Handheld, A/C Adapter, Stylus

Can I trade in a defective/broken console?
For the most part yes. If it powers on but doesn't play games, they will take the console as a refurb unit and put a refurb fee on the console. The refurb fee on the console will vary on the price of the console so those numbers will change. You are still required to trade in everything required listed in the question directly above.

What is the difference between PowerUp Rewards and PowerUp Rewards Pro?
The basic card is free and only allows you to acrew points when spending money. The Pro card costs $14.99 and is basically the same as the previous EDGE program.

How much does a PowerUp Rewards Pro subscription cost?
It costs $14.99 and is good for a year. It also comes with a 1-year subscription to Game Informer magazine.

What bonuses come with having an PowerUp Rewards Pro card?
You will get an extra 10% trade-in credit on the base value of the game, extra 10% off the purchase of pre-owned games and 10% off new strategy guides.

Does the Power Up Rewards Card give me a bonus on hardware trade-ins?
No. You will only get the bonus for games and accessories.

What if I want cash instead of credit, what do they deduct?
If you decide that you want cash instead of credit, they will take 20% off the base values and promos will not apply.

Does promo "....." have a minimum trade-in value?
If the promo has a minimum trade-in value requirement, it will be listed in the promo. If it isn't there, then there is no limit. However, as with all trades, they are subject to manager approval so the manager could have setup his own little rule-set requiring a minimum of whatever.

I used a Power Trade promo for a pre-order, can I cancel that pre-order and get the credit or move it to another game I want?
Yes on both accounts. However, if you do a bunch of the power trades and just straight drop the pre-order you could create some ill-will between yourself and the employees you cancel on. However, if you look at the wordings on promos, they can remove the bonus trade-in value if they decide to.

I just tried to use a promo that has a select list of games eligible, but they say my game isn't eligible anymore, what gives?
Basically they have the right to change the eligible games at any time. They tend to update these frequently so as to lock out any easy/cheap games. It's best to check the eligible list the day of your trade.

Can I stack two different trade-in promos?
No. The only thing that will stack with trade-ins is your PowerUp Rewards card. Some will report success, but this requires a manual override and is very YMMV.

If I pay for an item using all credit on my card, do I have to pay sales tax?
This varies depending upon the state you live in.

If I buy a used copy of a game that requires an online pass for multiplayer, will it come with an online pass?
If you purchase a used title published by either Sony or WB you get an online pass from GS on your receipt. That's also why the used copies are $55 instead of $48 when the MSRP is $60. No GS issued passes of games published by EA, THQ, etc. On those titles you're totally dependent on the previous owner not using the code.

What states charge sales tax on purchases paid in full with credit and which ones don't?

My state doesn't charge sales tax on purchases made by credit, why is gamestop.com charging me tax?
It is just the way they have designed their system. The best theory we have seen is that since you are only inputting the number off of the back of the card, it isn't going to pick up the programming from the specially tagged EDGE cards. Some kind of programming that gets input from their system that wont show up when only inputting the number off the back of the card.

Guys looking for advice, my 20GB PS3 is in near perfect condition and rarely used.  I have the original box, packaging, etc.  I'm sitting on a 50% trade in bonus coupon so I should beg $160 for it.  I know they got for a good amount on EBay but I'm really tempted to trade it in to GameStop to finish paying off my Xbox One?  Any suggestions on what I should do with it?

Yeah there's ones listed for around $200 but the ones getting bids are significantly below $160 and the only thing going for it is that it has the backwards compatibility and even if you got more than $160 ebay and PayPal fees are going to eat into that. If you're paying that much for an old PS3 when you can get a like new PS2 for a fraction of that you're just a silly person. Personally I would take the $160 and be done with.

I agree with Eldritch to just take the credit. One thing to note though....with the 50% I think you are looking at $150 not $160. I think you are throwing the extra 10% for PUR which doesnt work on consoles.

I sold a 80gb PS3 once that literally was played maybe 10 times. The buyer said it didn't work and sent it back. I had to eat the original ~$20-30 shipping cost. I received it and when I turned it on, there was a red error screen that I couldn't get past (probably bricked from someone trying to mod it) and had to send it back to sony to swap for a refub for $100 which I later sold on ebay again.

tl;dr Don't do ebay. Ended up making only $40 for my PS3 after weeks of BS.

 
talked to the manager at my gamestop and they will be doing an extra 50% trade in next week......no help that  is being that i lost out on the 30% I should of got form preordering battlefield 4 the promo they are doing at every other gamestop except mine

Thanks for the advice guys. Yeah I'm definitely just going to trade it in. Kind of a shame I have all the extras, it looks brand new but probably should have sold it a while ago. So the 10% PUR doesn't apply to consoles? That kind of sucks.

Anyone know tiv on turtle beach headsets, & I also would like to know if gs takes skylanders sets in for trade?
GS does not take Skylanders in trade, that was a failed experiment a year ago. They only take TB in as a third-party headset so you get almost nothing for it, sell it online instead.

That too, I tried to sell a broken 360 and the actual weight to ship it was way higher than any weight I could find for the item anywhere and the shipping cost was at least twice what I put on ebay.

Upgrading the HDD doesn't void the warranty, as you can access the HDD without removing the warranty sticker.

Soul Sacrifice and Dead or Alive both have online passes so be aware of that. That said though, I think we will see them for $30 new in the near future. I honestly will say that those are the two that are my best picks as I love both of them. But to be on the safe side I would still go with MGR as one of your games.

The Vita version of Dead or Alive 5 Plus does not have online pass, but the console version does.

 
Neither of the 2 Gamestops near me are running the $3 bonus on trade ins onver $2 unfortunately. They are running some crapping trade in 3 games from a list (trade in value is near $20 total already for most of them a piece) and get a $60 credit in store. They told me that next week they are running a 50% bonus on TIV though.

 
Okay, so I've got a B2G1 free coupon that lasts until tomorrow. Can I buy two games I want at one store and get a filler as the third, then switch the filler for something I want at another store? I know that this works during the storewide sales but I'm not 100% sure whether it works when using a one-time coupon.

You can just buy the two games without the coupon and take them to the third store, or vice versa, and they'll just do a return rebuy with the coupon.

I was told otherwise from several others. I would not know as I bought it digitally.
Gamestop's shockingly good about having the warning with used games that have passes and it doesn't have it with Vita DOA5,

 
Does anyone else have an error when trying to login to PUR? I just opened a new account at GS and I'm trying to activate my card. I'm getting "There was an error with the logon server. Please try again later". Do I have to activate by tomorrow to get the 50% coupon? Hopefully they fix the website by the end of today, if that is the case.

Anyone have any experience trading in an Xbox without a USB door on the faceplate? I've been holding off doing my trade while I waited for the replacement faceplate I bought from eBay. Of course it arrived without a USB door as well

It's being really slow logging me in but I'm getting through so probably something server side, give it a couple hours and try again.

I just called and the guy verified my info and told me that I should be able to login by tomorrow morning. He said something about a lot of new members and they are having issues with registration or something.

Not sure, but I don't think that changing the HDD's voids the warranty since there are instructions on how to do it on sonys site.

Probably up to manager discretion if they take it in or not.

 
Just did a big trade at a store that has the extra $3 deal going.  Talking to an employee, this location was a 'plus' store if that has anything to do with it.  This was in the same area (about 30 minutes away) from my local GS, which is one of the regions that ended the 3/5/7 deal a week early, so who knows what in the hell is going on with all of this regional stuff.  This plus store is also one of the few locations that have started carrying a small amount of new, off contract phones for T-Mobile and ATT (some of you may have gotten an e-mail about it in the last few days; I did).  I managed to snag a Nokia Lumia 521 for T-Mobile for $129 (been wanting to try out WP8, and this one has gotten some pretty stellar reviews, considering it's amazingly low off contract price), and have some credit left over to boot!  I'll pull my receipt out of the car in a bit and post the values later.

Anyhow, I just realized my renewal B2G1 coupon is expiring tomorrow.  Stupidly I hadn't check until now, and there are no real compelling price drops or sales on used titles that I can find this week.  Anyone suggestions on some sale games I might have missed, or anyone want to trade?

On the old fat BC models the warranty sticker is on the door to swap out the HDD, they changed this with later models, when I asked a GS clerk before he told me they cant take console's that have their warranty stickers voided, that was months ago though

I know GS gets A LOT if flak for it's weak TIV but if you haven't reuped/renewed your Powerup Rewards card I suggest doing so NOW before the 30th of this month! I used my 50% Extra Trade in bonus coupon I got while renewing my Powerup Rewards account earlier this week, traded in my 16GB 3rd Gen Apple ipad (base TIV of $285 ) and Nintendo DS lite ( base TIV of $30 ), and got a total of $472.50 GS cred !!! ( $427.50 for the ipad, $45 for the DS , both in excellent condition ) I used the Trade-in Cred to pay off a PS4 console preorder, snagged a copy of "The Last of Us", and with a little cred left over I preordered Call of Duty:Ghosts and Killzone 4. Shout out to Matthew @ GS..moral of the story RENEW NOW AND TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE 50% TRADE IN BONUS COUPON. ( There is a similar coupon that nets you 50% extra in store credit when you trade in any handheld systems or media players you can purchase for 6500 points in your Powerup Rewards Account )

i agree...people who bitch about gamestops tiv are just plain lazy or dont know how to take advantage of a promotion. i agree their sales arent the best but they have gems and those old games you look for that actually have better prices than ebay or craigslist.

The coupon for 6500 points in the powerup rewards account is for handhelds and media players. Does anyone know if media players include iPads and iPhones, or is it just iPods and iTouches?
