These trade-in values are really low!
While that may be true, if you combine the games with the right promotion they can work to your advantage. There are knowledgeable people in this thread that are normally willing to help.

Is there any way to look at what the previous values reported on a game?
You can search through this thread and previous ones to see what a game has been reported in the past. With the TIV Tracker you can sort by date and then go through the list of past updated values through that as well. Can I trade-in sealed games?
No. You might come across the rare GameStop that would let you do it, but they are going to open them anyway.

I don't want to get hassled about the values I post, how can I get the information out there?
If you do not feel comfortable or willing to put the values in the thread you have two options available. You can input them in the TIV tracker or you can send them to me via PM. Either way the database and these lists will be updated. Putting them into the TIV tracker does save me some time later on.

Do trade-ins have to have their original case, insert and manual?
No, however it will be YMMV on if they charge you a refurbish fee for them in that condition. Most GameStops wont charge a fee but there are some that charge for incomplete games.

Will they accept my game if it is really beat up?
YMMV. It really all depends upon the employee you get. Some will charge refurbish fees, some wont, some wont accept the game and others just take them without a second glance.

What are the refurb fees on games?
There appears to be set prices for set value ranges. We aren't 100% certain on the splits just yet. Here is what we have currently:
$0.25-$2 Value: $0.75 Refurb Fee
$2.01-$4 Value: $1 Refurb Fee
$4.01-$7 Value: $2 Refurb Fee
$7.01-$10 Value: $3 Refurb Fee
$10.01 & Higher Value: $4 Refurb Fee
This information isn't guaranteed by any mean and we are still working on nailing it down.

What are the refurb fees on consoles?
They are listed in the hardware TIV section, highlight in red.

I have a Collector's/Limited/Special edition of a game, do I have to trade-in all of the extras?
No, but there are a handful of games that their variations have separate listings at GameStop: Madden 09 Anniversary Edition, Battlefield: Bad Company Gold Edition, and a few others.

Why didn't the percent bonus go for my accessory for a system that was included?
Unless stated otherwise, and they are rarely included, the bonuses never apply to accessories. Except the PowerUp Rewards card of course.

I traded in a bunch of games for the "Trade X, get $X bonus" promo and it gave me the percentage bonus instead?
I can't give concretes on why this happens. GameStop computers are normally pretty good at giving you the better promo. In the case of a percentage bonus being run at the same time as a "Trade X, get $X" promo, things can get messy. The system appears to only give one promo on games per transaction so if you had a few games that you want to go to the percentage bonus and a stack for the "Trade X, Get $X" it will regularly apply the percentage to all of the games. Your best bet is to do all "Trade X, Get $X" games in one transaction on their own. The GameStop clerk may say that the system will figure it all out, tell them you want a separate transaction anyway. As always, check your receipt before you leave the store.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
YMMV. The official policy is no, but there are some GameStops that overlook that rule.

What all do I have to trade in for a console trade-in?
Xbox 360: Console Unit, power brick, A/V Cables, Controller (wired/wireless)
Wii: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cables, Wiimote, Nunchuck, Sensor Bar
Playstation 3: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller, USB Cable
PSP: Handheld, A/C Adapter
Nintendo DS/DSLite/DSi: Handheld, A/C Adapter, Stylus

Can I trade in a defective/broken console?
For the most part yes. If it powers on but doesn't play games, they will take the console as a refurb unit and put a refurb fee on the console. The refurb fee on the console will vary on the price of the console so those numbers will change. You are still required to trade in everything required listed in the question directly above.

What is the difference between PowerUp Rewards and PowerUp Rewards Pro?
The basic card is free and only allows you to acrew points when spending money. The Pro card costs $14.99 and is basically the same as the previous EDGE program.

How much does a PowerUp Rewards Pro subscription cost?
It costs $14.99 and is good for a year. It also comes with a 1-year subscription to Game Informer magazine.

What bonuses come with having an PowerUp Rewards Pro card?
You will get an extra 10% trade-in credit on the base value of the game, extra 10% off the purchase of pre-owned games and 10% off new strategy guides.

Does the Power Up Rewards Card give me a bonus on hardware trade-ins?
No. You will only get the bonus for games and accessories.

What if I want cash instead of credit, what do they deduct?
If you decide that you want cash instead of credit, they will take 20% off the base values and promos will not apply.

Does promo "....." have a minimum trade-in value?
If the promo has a minimum trade-in value requirement, it will be listed in the promo. If it isn't there, then there is no limit. However, as with all trades, they are subject to manager approval so the manager could have setup his own little rule-set requiring a minimum of whatever.

I used a Power Trade promo for a pre-order, can I cancel that pre-order and get the credit or move it to another game I want?
Yes on both accounts. However, if you do a bunch of the power trades and just straight drop the pre-order you could create some ill-will between yourself and the employees you cancel on. However, if you look at the wordings on promos, they can remove the bonus trade-in value if they decide to.

I just tried to use a promo that has a select list of games eligible, but they say my game isn't eligible anymore, what gives?
Basically they have the right to change the eligible games at any time. They tend to update these frequently so as to lock out any easy/cheap games. It's best to check the eligible list the day of your trade.

Can I stack two different trade-in promos?
No. The only thing that will stack with trade-ins is your PowerUp Rewards card. Some will report success, but this requires a manual override and is very YMMV.

If I pay for an item using all credit on my card, do I have to pay sales tax?
This varies depending upon the state you live in.

If I buy a used copy of a game that requires an online pass for multiplayer, will it come with an online pass?
If you purchase a used title published by either Sony or WB you get an online pass from GS on your receipt. That's also why the used copies are $55 instead of $48 when the MSRP is $60. No GS issued passes of games published by EA, THQ, etc. On those titles you're totally dependent on the previous owner not using the code.

What states charge sales tax on purchases paid in full with credit and which ones don't?

My state doesn't charge sales tax on purchases made by credit, why is gamestop.com charging me tax?
It is just the way they have designed their system. The best theory we have seen is that since you are only inputting the number off of the back of the card, it isn't going to pick up the programming from the specially tagged EDGE cards. Some kind of programming that gets input from their system that wont show up when only inputting the number off the back of the card.

I traded everything but UFC in one transaction (the employee was fine with splitting everything into two transactions) for $74.60 after bonuses and bought a $25 Amazon GC while putting the remaining $49.60 on my PUR card. I then traded just UFC towards Animal Crossing: New Leaf for the 30% bonus, so I have $21 of it paid off; I plan to use a $10 off coupon when I go pick up the game next Sunday. \\:D/

Well you could just do a return without origional receipt and have them do credit, then just buy the other game. I mean otherwise... your returning a $0 game, they can't re process the b2g1 free.

In a condescending tone, she tells me she's been working at gamestop for 5 years and knows the ins and outs of the computer system and knows that the computer will calculate the best deal and that I just didn't understand how the system worked. She even said that people who trade in 6 games get the $10 bonus stacked twice. (Herp derp. No it doesn't. It's a different promo code for the $20 bonus. I didn't even bother explaining this to her.) Finally she finished doing the math and noticed I didn't get $15. She blamed it on a new update for the POS and grumpily voided the last transaction and had the new girl do two separate trade ins. I felt bad for the new girl since the woman in charge was quite rude to her, as if it was her fault cause she was new.

It literally would have been faster to have just done one transaction there and gone to another gamestop for the other trade in, or even better, just process it as two different trade ins. The GS employees who think the computer is infallible are ridiculous, but the ones who bullshit you about knowing everything about it and won't listen to what you say are the worst. She conveniently wasn't having her ID facing me so I didn't catch a name. This wasn't even the first time she's been rude to me, but this was pretty ridiculous.[/QUOTE]

it's pretty weird, that we as cags know more about how the gamestop promos work than the employees. I had a similar situation and explained it, and the cashier girl (looked like she was in HS or college) didn't understand why.

but I usually am pretty patient with retail associates, I know they're not taught the ins and outs of their specific company business, but I do take offense when a manager tries to say she knows more without even taking into consideration that she could/might be wrong.
 
It has been a while since I've had enough games at once to want to do 2 transactions but I'd either just go to another store for the second set, or I'd keep the other set in the car and say something like "Wow, that was a good deal - I have some more to trade" and go get the other set after everything was settled. That way you don't give them the option and don't have to hold things back right in front of them.

But then again, it would just be easier if the manager worked with you instead of against you ;).

Anyway, I did bring in a bunch of games today but only because I knew some wouldn't qualify. I thought a used sales price of $14.99 would be good, but apparently not as those traded for $2 - $2.75 (yeah, I know :roll:). So yeah, if you are looking at older games to bring in I'd say go for anything that sells for more than $14.99 used and you have a pretty good chance of it being $3 and up. Of course there are exceptions both ways, but that is a good general guideline.

All prices as of June 2nd.

The 3 that didn't work were all Wii games I really wanted to get rid of:

I forget which was $2, which was $2.50, and which was $2.75 but, JP, please just mark them all as $2 - that way in the unlikely event anyone else has these to trade in they will know they don't qualify for the bonus promos.

Going by used sales prices, the order is like this: all 3 of those Wii games at $14.99 (trade for $2-2.75), Aliens vs. Predator PS3 $14.99 ($3), Split Second PS3 $17.99 ($4), NBA 2K12 PS3 $17.99 ($4.50), Sonic Unleashed PS3 $19.99 ($5), Kirby Mass Attack $19.99 ($5), Lego Indy 2 PS3 $19.99 ($6), Kingdom Hearts 3D $27.99 ($10). So, yeah, only 1 of the 4 games being sold at $14.99 just barely qualified.

Thanks for the reply, I thought it might be a problem. What do you mean return without original receipt? I thought you HAD to have a receipt to do any return?

I used the b2g1 to get Zelda ocarina, fire emblem, and naruto shippuden all 3ds. I found a store that had monster hunter 3ds and they let me do a straight trade for shippuden a couple days later. Shippuden was the 0.00 game.There was no problems.

Yeah, I planned on doing the trade that way, but I had so much stuff I was carrying and a lot on my mind that I mixed up the order of games I was going to trade in. I noticed when I was looking at the receipt on my way home. But after being at that store for like 40+ minutes doing all the trades and buying the new stuff, I kinda didn't want to go back for the extra $11 bucks. It bothered me for a bit, then I just decided to forget about it. Its just $11.

Yeah, I got $110 after the 50% bonus and $40 refurb fee. But I'm not sure if yours being YLOD might make it be less. But they didn't even check to see if mine worked, he just took it.

Well, I was expecting around $80 base value for my 80GB based on the first page of this forum (I know it might have been wrong, but it seemed fair to me.) So with the 50% I would get $120. With the refurb fee I calculated that I would get $80.

So in the store I was quoted $110 ($150 - $40). I wasn't really expecting a refurb fee, but the story about older PS3s needing to have their components changed because of overheating made me feel kinda guilty (since mine always had the fan on). And anyways, I was expecting $120 for the best case scenario, but was given $110. I didn't really care about the loss of $10. I just thought it was fair.

awesome thank you for the response! I once traded in a RROD Xbox 360 and just told them upfront it wasnt working They just took it as well without testing. Hopefully i get my 50% coupon soon so i can trade my PS3 in

Quick question:

I want to trade in a BC 60 gb PS3. So can I use the 50% PUR renewal coupon to add 50% to the $110 trade in value for a total of $165 store credit?

Also, what is the hardware refurb fee? Is it a $40 deduction ($110-$40) for bringing in a refurbed but working PS3, or is it that they give you $40 for bringing in a PS3 that is not working and needs to be refurbed?

If it is not working or has any missing parts like a hard drive cover they will give you $70. Not sure if the 50% works before or after the refurb fee. As long as nothing is missing and it works even if it has been refurbished you should get the full amount.

Thanks xenozfan2...mine is working fine so I think I better trade it in while I can get $110 plus the xtra 50%.
 
With this 50% coupon these trades values are huge for consoles , I could make 2.50 $ for what I paid for my slim 250 gig 360 or lose 35$ on my 120 gig ps3 (well pre tax) . I almost wish I had a reason to trade one in but I haven't decided if I'm gonna buy a next gen console right away . If your considering trading in a console now would be an ideal time to do it .
 
The 3/5/7 has officially been extended to 6/23 on the website.

Also there's a bunch of stuff added to/remaining in the 30% Power Trade, pre owned electronics are 10% off, & PS2 games only are B2G1F.

I have $180 in GS Credit, after my emp discount, I can cop a 3DXL for $1 more. Should I pull the trigger, wait on a drop, or flip my credit elsewhere for a cheaper one?

I could trade in Injustice, RE:Re and a filler to get an extra boost but meh at best b/c I love Injustice
 
Sorry if this has been asked and answered already but have they said when they would stop giving the 50% coupons for PUR renewal? And to anyone who has a coupon, how long is it good for? Thanks!

Employee discounts don't work on new hardware/systems, only used ones.

Target had them for $175 last week, and there are WM stores out there that still have the MK 7 bundles for $200. If you lookup inventory at WM, do it on their mobile site as the stock accuracy on it is greater than the normal website. (Speaks from recent WM experience.)

Normally I'd say Amazon Warehouse Deals. When AWD says "Like New," you can take that to the bank. But they may not sell 3DSXL since Amazon stopped carrying Nintendo consoles awhile back.

Yeah the only Nintendo hardware you can buy on Amazon is from third party vendors.
 
I forgot to ask GS if they take The original Skylanders game and the portal. Any clue how much they'd give for the first game on 3DS? Do you think I need to include some figures with it too?

We don't know how long it lasts but I'm pretty sure well into this month because I got an email from PUR about my June eSummary and it advertised the 50% coupon there. Here is what the email stated: "or a limited time only, anyone who goes Pro gets a coupon good for 50% extra in-store credit and a Buy 2 Get 1 Free coupon. Whether you’re just joining the program, renewing your membership or upgrading to Pro, these are two Pro benefits you don’t want to miss. Hurry, offer ends soon". So if anything I would renew/upgrade ASAP. I don't have my coupon yet but I believe it is 3 months, I should get it soon so once I do I will confirm that.

Like xFatalFlaw, I also got an email from PUR about my June eSummary and on the mid left section it mentioned about renewing PUR for extra 50% trade in coupon for a limited time along with B2G1 free coupon. When I renewed last month, the coupon was valid until 7/31/13.

GS does not take the Skylanders game or figures in for trade.

At this point I would a wait a week for any E3 announcements (price drop, bundles, redesign, etc.) before making a decision.
