These trade-in values are really low!
While that may be true, if you combine the games with the right promotion they can work to your advantage. There are knowledgeable people in this thread that are normally willing to help.

Is there any way to look at what the previous values reported on a game?
You can search through this thread and previous ones to see what a game has been reported in the past. With the TIV Tracker you can sort by date and then go through the list of past updated values through that as well. Can I trade-in sealed games?
No. You might come across the rare GameStop that would let you do it, but they are going to open them anyway.

I don't want to get hassled about the values I post, how can I get the information out there?
If you do not feel comfortable or willing to put the values in the thread you have two options available. You can input them in the TIV tracker or you can send them to me via PM. Either way the database and these lists will be updated. Putting them into the TIV tracker does save me some time later on.

Do trade-ins have to have their original case, insert and manual?
No, however it will be YMMV on if they charge you a refurbish fee for them in that condition. Most GameStops wont charge a fee but there are some that charge for incomplete games.

Will they accept my game if it is really beat up?
YMMV. It really all depends upon the employee you get. Some will charge refurbish fees, some wont, some wont accept the game and others just take them without a second glance.

What are the refurb fees on games?
There appears to be set prices for set value ranges. We aren't 100% certain on the splits just yet. Here is what we have currently:
$0.25-$2 Value: $0.75 Refurb Fee
$2.01-$4 Value: $1 Refurb Fee
$4.01-$7 Value: $2 Refurb Fee
$7.01-$10 Value: $3 Refurb Fee
$10.01 & Higher Value: $4 Refurb Fee
This information isn't guaranteed by any mean and we are still working on nailing it down.

What are the refurb fees on consoles?
They are listed in the hardware TIV section, highlight in red.

I have a Collector's/Limited/Special edition of a game, do I have to trade-in all of the extras?
No, but there are a handful of games that their variations have separate listings at GameStop: Madden 09 Anniversary Edition, Battlefield: Bad Company Gold Edition, and a few others.

Why didn't the percent bonus go for my accessory for a system that was included?
Unless stated otherwise, and they are rarely included, the bonuses never apply to accessories. Except the PowerUp Rewards card of course.

I traded in a bunch of games for the "Trade X, get $X bonus" promo and it gave me the percentage bonus instead?
I can't give concretes on why this happens. GameStop computers are normally pretty good at giving you the better promo. In the case of a percentage bonus being run at the same time as a "Trade X, get $X" promo, things can get messy. The system appears to only give one promo on games per transaction so if you had a few games that you want to go to the percentage bonus and a stack for the "Trade X, Get $X" it will regularly apply the percentage to all of the games. Your best bet is to do all "Trade X, Get $X" games in one transaction on their own. The GameStop clerk may say that the system will figure it all out, tell them you want a separate transaction anyway. As always, check your receipt before you leave the store.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
YMMV. The official policy is no, but there are some GameStops that overlook that rule.

What all do I have to trade in for a console trade-in?
Xbox 360: Console Unit, power brick, A/V Cables, Controller (wired/wireless)
Wii: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cables, Wiimote, Nunchuck, Sensor Bar
Playstation 3: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller, USB Cable
PSP: Handheld, A/C Adapter
Nintendo DS/DSLite/DSi: Handheld, A/C Adapter, Stylus

Can I trade in a defective/broken console?
For the most part yes. If it powers on but doesn't play games, they will take the console as a refurb unit and put a refurb fee on the console. The refurb fee on the console will vary on the price of the console so those numbers will change. You are still required to trade in everything required listed in the question directly above.

What is the difference between PowerUp Rewards and PowerUp Rewards Pro?
The basic card is free and only allows you to acrew points when spending money. The Pro card costs $14.99 and is basically the same as the previous EDGE program.

How much does a PowerUp Rewards Pro subscription cost?
It costs $14.99 and is good for a year. It also comes with a 1-year subscription to Game Informer magazine.

What bonuses come with having an PowerUp Rewards Pro card?
You will get an extra 10% trade-in credit on the base value of the game, extra 10% off the purchase of pre-owned games and 10% off new strategy guides.

Does the Power Up Rewards Card give me a bonus on hardware trade-ins?
No. You will only get the bonus for games and accessories.

What if I want cash instead of credit, what do they deduct?
If you decide that you want cash instead of credit, they will take 20% off the base values and promos will not apply.

Does promo "....." have a minimum trade-in value?
If the promo has a minimum trade-in value requirement, it will be listed in the promo. If it isn't there, then there is no limit. However, as with all trades, they are subject to manager approval so the manager could have setup his own little rule-set requiring a minimum of whatever.

I used a Power Trade promo for a pre-order, can I cancel that pre-order and get the credit or move it to another game I want?
Yes on both accounts. However, if you do a bunch of the power trades and just straight drop the pre-order you could create some ill-will between yourself and the employees you cancel on. However, if you look at the wordings on promos, they can remove the bonus trade-in value if they decide to.

I just tried to use a promo that has a select list of games eligible, but they say my game isn't eligible anymore, what gives?
Basically they have the right to change the eligible games at any time. They tend to update these frequently so as to lock out any easy/cheap games. It's best to check the eligible list the day of your trade.

Can I stack two different trade-in promos?
No. The only thing that will stack with trade-ins is your PowerUp Rewards card. Some will report success, but this requires a manual override and is very YMMV.

If I pay for an item using all credit on my card, do I have to pay sales tax?
This varies depending upon the state you live in.

If I buy a used copy of a game that requires an online pass for multiplayer, will it come with an online pass?
If you purchase a used title published by either Sony or WB you get an online pass from GS on your receipt. That's also why the used copies are $55 instead of $48 when the MSRP is $60. No GS issued passes of games published by EA, THQ, etc. On those titles you're totally dependent on the previous owner not using the code.

What states charge sales tax on purchases paid in full with credit and which ones don't?

My state doesn't charge sales tax on purchases made by credit, why is gamestop.com charging me tax?
It is just the way they have designed their system. The best theory we have seen is that since you are only inputting the number off of the back of the card, it isn't going to pick up the programming from the specially tagged EDGE cards. Some kind of programming that gets input from their system that wont show up when only inputting the number off the back of the card.

So, what I'm wondering is why is this the first time I've ever heard of this game? Damn, now I guess I need to try to preorder both this and SMT IV (though paying $50 for a 3DS game is painful).

Is there currently a free shipping (over $25) coupon for GS? SAVER isn't working. I figured I better preorder Project X-Zone online since I won't get to a GS until next week to do it in store and it will be too late then.

Yeah - looks like I might get a few more bucks off stuff like God of War Collection. Now the hard part is having to go through all the stuff I didn't even bother bringing in and guessing what is not under $2... And here I thought I was done culling through my collection. But this opens it up to a lot of other stuff like DS games (which it seemed pretty much all but the cream of the crop were under $3).

So is it confirmed that you can use the Birthday Coupon, B2G1, and $XX Off at once? Didn't know where to ask this, just wanted to make sure.

Oh I got some stink eye for buying four $50 cards yesterday but that hardly stopped me. It's still revenue for their store which just lost revenue on your trade so they shouldn't have any reason to stop you unless they believe you're doing something illegal.

Make sure to try the demo on the eshop first, I thought this was going to be a pre-order lock for sure and I could not delete the demo off the system fast enough once I beat it.

I had multiple of some items and my total came out to $186.60 with the 50% extra coupon, they hit me with $2 in refurb fees though. That's literally all the extra cables and accessories I could find, wanted to maximize that coupon. :) The 2 iPods were purchased as "broken" from craigslist for $10. All they needed was a full nights charge using a regular charger, a USB cable on a PC wasn't doing it..Charged them up and tested out fine. I also got screwed when it comes to the Wireless Adapter, it was a Wireless N adapter and she rang it up as a normal one. After the coupon it would have been $10.86 more. I think I'm going to give them a call and see what they can do for me...I also had 2 rechargeable batteries, one on a controller and one loose with a play and charge kit. She said I had to include the cable with the controller since it had a rechargeable..Lost like $8 there since she wouldn't ring it up as the full play and charge kit. Oh well, still made out pretty good, put the trade towards Watch Dogs and COD Ghosts then topped off my PS4 pre-order.

technically the reason you couldnt get the extra for the charge and play kit is because you then would have been trading in a controller with no batter cover. i would definitely ask about the error on the wireless adapter though, and if you have an extra battery cover laying around maybe go in and see if they could give you the other $8, but that might be pushing it.

Yes, you will still get the 50% coupon on renewal/signup till whenever, rumored to end this month, the coupon expires for most people around 7/31/13. When you renew/signup the coupon is sent to your powerup account within 2-7 business days. You don't need to do anything special, it is automatically done in the system. The coupon does work on everything no exceptions, including HDMI cables if you want.

^Only in-store for most people, I heard people that have memberships expiring soon have option to do it online on the Powerup website.

Using the same games? No, they won't stack. In two separate transactions sure, just do the 3/5/7 first if you want to use that credit on Animal Crossing.

I can confirm that those 2 stack. Bday coupon works on one of the 3 highest priced game and if that game falls below the price of the other 2 games it becomes the free game. Otherwise the discounted game is part of the 2 games that you pay for making the lesser of the 3 priced one free.

You need to wait for the coupon. You can not do it all at once in the store when you renew. You could also buy a 50% trade-in coupon from someone in the trade forum.

I second trying out the demo. I too thought to preorder Project X Zone because it sounded like a cool concept, but once I played the demo...ugh. I transferred my preorder to something else ASAP.

It might depend on when you signup/ renew, brother did 2 days ago - 8/31/13 and I did about a 1.5 weeks ago - 7/31/13.

I suggest going to your local store soon, as it's rumored after the end of this month you will not receive the 50% coupon anymore.

Alright guys went to do my first trade in at Gamestop and got surprisingly the same amount I expected but looking at my receipt it seem's I was not given the extra 35 dollars in store credit (I expected the $35 extra plus a minimum of $21 since each game had to be at least 3 dollars for a total of 56, just a rough estimate) but anyway here are the values but take note that these are with the 10% bonus with the PUR and what I don't understand is that I was given an extra 4 dollars on most games. Anyway

I hope I did the base values right and the numbers in parenthesis is what I actually got. The Transformers game is what got me, I was hit with a refurb fee despite it having everything but it was only for .75 cents. But was it this game that screwed everything up and prevented me from getting the extra 35 dollars? When I asked the cashier said that I did get the deal. Is there anything I can do or was it my mistake. And also, aside from the extra 10% I got an extra promo giving me $4 dollars on 5 games, .45 cents on Transformers and an .75 cents more on Final Fantasy. Any advice/help?

 
Alright guys went to do my first trade in at Gamestop and got surprisingly the same amount I expected but looking at my receipt it seem's I was not given the extra 35 dollars in store credit (I expected the $35 extra plus a minimum of $21 since each game had to be at least 3 dollars for a total of 56, just a rough estimate) but anyway here are the values but take note that these are with the 10% bonus with the PUR and what I don't understand is that I was given an extra 4 dollars on most games. Anyway

I hope I did the base values right and the numbers in parenthesis is what I actually got. The Transformers game is what got me, I was hit with a refurb fee despite it having everything but it was only for .75 cents. But was it this game that screwed everything up and prevented me from getting the extra 35 dollars? When I asked the cashier said that I did get the deal. Is there anything I can do or was it my mistake. And also, aside from the extra 10% I got an extra promo giving me $4 dollars on 5 games, .45 cents on Transformers and an .75 cents more on Final Fantasy. Any advice/help?
You got the 5/$20. Two of your games didn't qualify. Transformers on Wii and the PSP game. The PSP game and Transformers on Wii you seem to have gotten a 30% promo. Did you pre-order something?

Oh wow I did not notice that the psp game was also below the limit. Yes actually the cashier told me the total and asked if I wanted cash or credit and I picked up animal crossing. I placed the rest on Project X Zone but that was after I was given my total. I recieved my receipt and that was it.

If it was all done in one go, I'd say you got a 30% promo on the two games that didn't qualify towards the pre-order you did.

I think you're right JP because Animal Crossing is one of the 30% titles. Also doesn't need to be a pre-order but can just be a purchase.

I had three other games but I doubt they would have qualified (Naruto for ds, WWE for psp, and FF 3 but without a case).

But thank you, you really cleared things up and I'm starting to feel better. I don't really like to trade in games but it seemed like a good deal. I'll miss Nintendogs, that really hit me even though I never played it

I'm confused. They would know you were getting animal Crossing because you purchased it? Also I'm not 100% sure but I'm guessing the computer automatically gave you the 30% bonus to your games that didn't qualify for the 3/5/7 promotion once Animal Crossing was scanned.

Recently when I traded in during the 30% E3 promotion it didn't look like the employee scanned anything out of the promo book and the computer automatically applied the 30% boost once I added it to my PS4 pre-order.

Well they do the first totaling and you see the jump in the promos, then when you picked up a game the system would go through the games/promos again when they hit total for the final time. At least that is what I remember of how the system works with some promos. Some of the pre-order promos require a code to be scanned but since Animal Crossing is a 30% with purchase that sounds like one that would automatically be added.

Does anyone know if the kindle gift cards are nationwide? Specifically looking at Chicago area.
We've got reports from all over the country that they are in shop, no guarantees though really. There were a small number of stores that were reported didn't have them but it seems very spotty, could've also been they hadn't got their shipment of cards yet or possibly that market wasn't big enough to get it.

Does anybody think values will drop a lot tonight given the new promotion cycle?  Just wondering if I should go back to today with the 50% or not.

My last 3/5/7 deal I think....Got a issue resolved I had from the cashier ringing up an item wrong. Just told the Gamestop lady how much of a difference I was missing and she found the item in the back and added it on to my final trade value for this transaction. Ended up with $84 and some change because of it. Pre-Ordered Beyond Two Souls and put the rest towards my PS4 preorder...

Its worth noting to that the cashier who helped me today said the 3/5/7 promo is running until July 14th in my store. I guess if it does well then it will happen more frequently in the future, the store signage confirmed. She said we were in one of 6 districts that were doing the promo...I live near Midland, MI and that's what store I shop at, maybe others close to me will have the same experience.

 
Does the Mass Effect Trilogy have its own value, or is it just the value of each game? Also does anyone know the trade-in for Animal Crossing?
