These trade-in values are really low!
While that may be true, if you combine the games with the right promotion they can work to your advantage. There are knowledgeable people in this thread that are normally willing to help.

Is there any way to look at what the previous values reported on a game?
You can search through this thread and previous ones to see what a game has been reported in the past. With the TIV Tracker you can sort by date and then go through the list of past updated values through that as well. Can I trade-in sealed games?
No. You might come across the rare GameStop that would let you do it, but they are going to open them anyway.

I don't want to get hassled about the values I post, how can I get the information out there?
If you do not feel comfortable or willing to put the values in the thread you have two options available. You can input them in the TIV tracker or you can send them to me via PM. Either way the database and these lists will be updated. Putting them into the TIV tracker does save me some time later on.

Do trade-ins have to have their original case, insert and manual?
No, however it will be YMMV on if they charge you a refurbish fee for them in that condition. Most GameStops wont charge a fee but there are some that charge for incomplete games.

Will they accept my game if it is really beat up?
YMMV. It really all depends upon the employee you get. Some will charge refurbish fees, some wont, some wont accept the game and others just take them without a second glance.

What are the refurb fees on games?
There appears to be set prices for set value ranges. We aren't 100% certain on the splits just yet. Here is what we have currently:
$0.25-$2 Value: $0.75 Refurb Fee
$2.01-$4 Value: $1 Refurb Fee
$4.01-$7 Value: $2 Refurb Fee
$7.01-$10 Value: $3 Refurb Fee
$10.01 & Higher Value: $4 Refurb Fee
This information isn't guaranteed by any mean and we are still working on nailing it down.

What are the refurb fees on consoles?
They are listed in the hardware TIV section, highlight in red.

I have a Collector's/Limited/Special edition of a game, do I have to trade-in all of the extras?
No, but there are a handful of games that their variations have separate listings at GameStop: Madden 09 Anniversary Edition, Battlefield: Bad Company Gold Edition, and a few others.

Why didn't the percent bonus go for my accessory for a system that was included?
Unless stated otherwise, and they are rarely included, the bonuses never apply to accessories. Except the PowerUp Rewards card of course.

I traded in a bunch of games for the "Trade X, get $X bonus" promo and it gave me the percentage bonus instead?
I can't give concretes on why this happens. GameStop computers are normally pretty good at giving you the better promo. In the case of a percentage bonus being run at the same time as a "Trade X, get $X" promo, things can get messy. The system appears to only give one promo on games per transaction so if you had a few games that you want to go to the percentage bonus and a stack for the "Trade X, Get $X" it will regularly apply the percentage to all of the games. Your best bet is to do all "Trade X, Get $X" games in one transaction on their own. The GameStop clerk may say that the system will figure it all out, tell them you want a separate transaction anyway. As always, check your receipt before you leave the store.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
YMMV. The official policy is no, but there are some GameStops that overlook that rule.

What all do I have to trade in for a console trade-in?
Xbox 360: Console Unit, power brick, A/V Cables, Controller (wired/wireless)
Wii: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cables, Wiimote, Nunchuck, Sensor Bar
Playstation 3: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller, USB Cable
PSP: Handheld, A/C Adapter
Nintendo DS/DSLite/DSi: Handheld, A/C Adapter, Stylus

Can I trade in a defective/broken console?
For the most part yes. If it powers on but doesn't play games, they will take the console as a refurb unit and put a refurb fee on the console. The refurb fee on the console will vary on the price of the console so those numbers will change. You are still required to trade in everything required listed in the question directly above.

What is the difference between PowerUp Rewards and PowerUp Rewards Pro?
The basic card is free and only allows you to acrew points when spending money. The Pro card costs $14.99 and is basically the same as the previous EDGE program.

How much does a PowerUp Rewards Pro subscription cost?
It costs $14.99 and is good for a year. It also comes with a 1-year subscription to Game Informer magazine.

What bonuses come with having an PowerUp Rewards Pro card?
You will get an extra 10% trade-in credit on the base value of the game, extra 10% off the purchase of pre-owned games and 10% off new strategy guides.

Does the Power Up Rewards Card give me a bonus on hardware trade-ins?
No. You will only get the bonus for games and accessories.

What if I want cash instead of credit, what do they deduct?
If you decide that you want cash instead of credit, they will take 20% off the base values and promos will not apply.

Does promo "....." have a minimum trade-in value?
If the promo has a minimum trade-in value requirement, it will be listed in the promo. If it isn't there, then there is no limit. However, as with all trades, they are subject to manager approval so the manager could have setup his own little rule-set requiring a minimum of whatever.

I used a Power Trade promo for a pre-order, can I cancel that pre-order and get the credit or move it to another game I want?
Yes on both accounts. However, if you do a bunch of the power trades and just straight drop the pre-order you could create some ill-will between yourself and the employees you cancel on. However, if you look at the wordings on promos, they can remove the bonus trade-in value if they decide to.

I just tried to use a promo that has a select list of games eligible, but they say my game isn't eligible anymore, what gives?
Basically they have the right to change the eligible games at any time. They tend to update these frequently so as to lock out any easy/cheap games. It's best to check the eligible list the day of your trade.

Can I stack two different trade-in promos?
No. The only thing that will stack with trade-ins is your PowerUp Rewards card. Some will report success, but this requires a manual override and is very YMMV.

If I pay for an item using all credit on my card, do I have to pay sales tax?
This varies depending upon the state you live in.

If I buy a used copy of a game that requires an online pass for multiplayer, will it come with an online pass?
If you purchase a used title published by either Sony or WB you get an online pass from GS on your receipt. That's also why the used copies are $55 instead of $48 when the MSRP is $60. No GS issued passes of games published by EA, THQ, etc. On those titles you're totally dependent on the previous owner not using the code.

What states charge sales tax on purchases paid in full with credit and which ones don't?

My state doesn't charge sales tax on purchases made by credit, why is gamestop.com charging me tax?
It is just the way they have designed their system. The best theory we have seen is that since you are only inputting the number off of the back of the card, it isn't going to pick up the programming from the specially tagged EDGE cards. Some kind of programming that gets input from their system that wont show up when only inputting the number off the back of the card.

So I just traded in my Wii and 360 and a pile of old cables (transfer cables, network cables, 3rd party controllers etc.).  I went ahead and signed up for that renewed Game Informter sub. Got $150 for my Steam wallet for the summer sale, so I'm pretty happy with that.

So here is my question:

The dude told me I'd be getting that 50% bonus coupon soon for signing up but I don't have anything else I want to trade in.  Can I give that coupon to a friend or will it be tied to my account?

Well because I only got the coupon because I was renewing due to the bonus for this trade in. Anyway, it's already done.

Its worth noting to that the cashier who helped me today said the 3/5/7 promo is running until July 14th in my store. I guess if it does well then it will happen more frequently in the future, the store signage confirmed. She said we were in one of 6 districts that were doing the promo...I live near Midland, MI and that's what store I shop at, maybe others close to me will have the same experience.
Interesting, too bad that's probably only going to be continuing out there in the middle of nowhere. ;)

Does the Mass Effect Trilogy have its own value, or is it just the value of each game? Also does anyone know the trade-in for Animal Crossing?
Yes, the trilogy is it's own game.

Yep, I've never printed a coupon and always just read them off the number.

 
Alright guys went to do my first trade in at Gamestop and got surprisingly the same amount I expected but looking at my receipt it seem's I was not given the extra 35 dollars in store credit (I expected the $35 extra plus a minimum of $21 since each game had to be at least 3 dollars for a total of 56, just a rough estimate) but anyway here are the values but take note that these are with the 10% bonus with the PUR and what I don't understand is that I was given an extra 4 dollars on most games. Anyway

I hope I did the base values right and the numbers in parenthesis is what I actually got. The Transformers game is what got me, I was hit with a refurb fee despite it having everything but it was only for .75 cents. But was it this game that screwed everything up and prevented me from getting the extra 35 dollars? When I asked the cashier said that I did get the deal. Is there anything I can do or was it my mistake. And also, aside from the extra 10% I got an extra promo giving me $4 dollars on 5 games, .45 cents on Transformers and an .75 cents more on Final Fantasy. Any advice/help?
You got the 5/$20. Two of your games didn't qualify. Transformers on Wii and the PSP game. The PSP game and Transformers on Wii you seem to have gotten a 30% promo. Did you pre-order something?
Oh wow I did not notice that the psp game was also below the limit. Yes actually the cashier told me the total and asked if I wanted cash or credit and I picked up animal crossing. I placed the rest on Project X Zone but that was after I was given my total. I recieved my receipt and that was it.
YOU HAVE TO ALWAYS CHECK YOUR RECEIPT before you leave the store to make sure they dont screw you over..

few weeks back i walked in and traded 7 games and though the vaules seem low just to find out they charged me 21 bucks for REFUB fees on DS games .. went back and told them i want all of the games back.. took them to another gamestop and got full value

 
I just ask them to tell me the base and what the total will be before final confirmation, also I do the math before going to the store
 
So I got a clerk who wouldn't do separate transactions (and a manager who backed him up) tonight, which led me to trade seven instead of 21 games. Imagine my amusement!

2nd 3/5/7 trade tonight. Was told Phoenix, AZ is a test market and blah blah blah they were not honoring any promos. I called BS and told them the clerk on Friday did the promo manually. I wouldn't budge, told them fine I will take my games somewhere else, they then did a manual promo. 

Such crap really dislike Gamestop but I got $275 in Amazon credit to go towards my X1. What is this test market BS they are spewing?

Once I get my 50% coupon and get enought to pay off my next box I am done with Gamestop I try to avoid them at all costs and they just re-enforced that with this fiasco.

 
So this was cool..... Over the past week, I traded 2 Xbox 360 controllers and nba jam..... The controllers rang up as $17, but I told the person on the website it shows $22.10.... So he honored it.... Then it stacked with the PUR 10% and then the 30% if I got one of the games listed..... So I ended up getting Last of us ($59.99 with no tax since trades covered it) and Had $9 in store credit left....So I never ended up opening Last of Us, so I decided to return it since I won't get to it for a while and by the it'll probably drop down in price....

So I went to gamestop today with the receipt and they refunded me the $59.99 plus $5 in tax in cash for Last of Us

So for 2 Xbox 360 controllers and a old nba jam game( 360), I ended up getting $64.99 in cash and $9 store credit with all those promos.....crazy!!!

The website does have that asterisk that you'll get up to $22.10 for the wireless controller and the values listed includes promotional offers. You would have gotten the extra $5.10 for the controller if you traded towards select items, one of which was TLoU.

Also, I'm curious as to why you use so many elipses?

dislike how they break the bonus into $3.33 and apply it to each of the three games. I'd rather just see a $10 credit on my receipt.
Did you mean that 2 of the games were under $3? That's the minimum value.

Super Monkey Ball $5

Obviously didn't do Skate 2 and Asphalt 3D because they didn't qualify, and decided to keep Super Monkey Ball because trading in 6 would have done nothing for me. Also, would anyone care to comment on how hard they inspect controllers? My 360 wireless controller has been used a bit so the left nub is worn down a little (but not too badly), but more importantly than that, sometimes it acts like the left stick is stuck going to the left in games (which they probably wouldn't notice immediately).

 
The website does have that asterisk that you'll get up to $22.10 for the wireless controller and the values listed includes promotional offers. You would have gotten the extra $5.10 for the controller if you traded towards select items, one of which was TLoU.

Also, I'm curious as to why you use so many elipses?

Having traded in three 360 controllers (1 with a working system, 1 with a broken system, 1 by itself) in the last three months they barely check them at the store I went to. Just kind of fiddle a bit and make sure it feels right and turns on. Only one that got anything close to scrutiny was the one with the working system and that was just because they had to use it with the system to test it.

I traded in 2 controllers that I cleaned up from a purchase on Craigslist. The guy sold me 2 controllers and 1 wired headset for $15. The analog sticks were wore down. I called ahead and they said they wouldn't take them. So I took apart the controller and put some analog sticks on it from a broken controller I had. Thankfully the sticker inside the battery cover went back on easy. I've never seen a analog stick wore down before...But I would say it's ymmv whether or not they would take it. To test mine she just pressed all the buttons and moved the sticks around. Didn't even try to turn it on or sync it.

I have several of them lying around. Hmmm...

One more question regarding them.  Did the employee test them to make sure the work?  Not sure how they could in that environment, but thought I'd ask.

Yeah I've traded in headsets from the consoles as well as the headset I got from the chat pad bundle. They don't test them but if they're broken physically they obviously won't take them.

Came from multiple places but yeah that headset and no they didn't test them in any way.

 
This is why it's worth keeping a fake mustache in the car.
If I thought a disguise would've worked, I'd have gone to the Walmart next door. Alas, spending 50 minutes at the front desk with the guy probably would have made it easy to identify me.

The funniest part of the entire ordeal was that he tried to cite his business classes when telling me that they couldn't "manipulate a promotion." I know, bro; you want me to think you're smart.

The saddest part was him asking me if I had anywhere to be, me saying "No," and me missing a concert I really wanted to go to because of it. Ah, well.

 
Whenever you trade in the data transfer kit for 360, what do you have to have with that? Just the device that plugs into each hard drive?

Also, do they accept the Xbox 360 audio adapter?

Give it time. The guy who I became far too familiar with tonight said they hadn't even gotten the promo book for the next cycle in, so I would imagine they might wait a little while to debut them online, too.
Uh... that guy had nothing to do with GS... You should really know better than to get "too familiar" with strangers at truck stops who claim the work for GS with insider info.

YOU HAVE TO ALWAYS CHECK YOUR RECEIPT before you leave the store to make sure they dont screw you over..

few weeks back i walked in and traded 7 games and though the vaules seem low just to find out they charged me 21 bucks for REFUB fees on DS games .. went back and told them i want all of the games back.. took them to another gamestop and got full value

I believe it's because in most, if not all states, that Gamestop has to operate their trade business under the same laws as pawn shops.

I tried trading in 3 XBOX 360 games last week (Call of Duty Black Ops 2, Left 4 Dead and Naruto Ninja Storm Generations) and tried taking advantage of the 30% towards a pre-order promo. I asked the clerk if he would let me put $5 on Madden 25 and use the rest in store but he said no because all of it had to go to a pre-order so I told him that I would just put it all towards my pre-order of gta v. I thought he would change his mind when I told him that since it wasn't going to end up being a new pre-order but I was wrong. After scanning all the games he told me I was getting $41 which seemed odd to me since I looked up the TIV's in this thread before going and I thought I would be looking at about $56 (I paid $20 for them off craigslist earlier that day). I then looked down at their credit card machine which displays your trade ins and noticed that they had hit me with $12 in refurb fees for the 3 games. I asked him why he had done that if the games were in good condition with only minor scratches and that all the games I usually buy used there are not even in as good of condition as the ones I was trading in. He gave me some bs story about how they wanted to do away with scratched up games so they are going to be charging a refurb fee for all games that are not in perfect condition. This really pissed me off (Oh, I forgot to add that he was the manager and that I visit this store pretty often so he knew me pretty well). I then proceeded to tell him to cancel the transaction and to go ahead and cancel my two pre-orders for gta v and call of duty ghosts as well while he was at it. I don't think I have ever been this mad at a gamestop.
