These bulbs are equivalent to 100 Watt conventional light bulbs. They are warranteed to last 5 years, so there are savings in electric bills to consider. Shipping is free for orders over $25 (Amazon filler finder, before anybody asks.)
However, there is also a safety issue to consider: mercury. All flourescent bulbs (regardless of brand) contain mercury. The amount present in each bulb is small (about 5mg per bulb, as compared with 500mg in old thermometers with mercury.)
