GOG Deals Thread

I haven't even played the new(er) Sam and Max games I've owned on Steam in ages so yeah probably shouldn't be buying the moldy pixel ones.
I've played the newer ones for a bit... they are good, but the classic one is 10 times better. I'm downloading it right now

No you didn't
Depends on lots of things.

Depends your feelings of DRM; thoughts of GOG extras (often they might have more extras than Steam-versions, if Steam doesn't offer the extras as DLC or something of that sort); if there's one version that's in better shape than the others; if you want to deal w/ GOG not having a client yet (to do auto-updates and others things - updating can be a pain w/ GOG versions i.e. see Outcast); another version might be updated more so somewhere else (i.e. Deadly Premonition has more updates on Steam; GOG version is still lagging behind); maybe you prefer Steam client stuff (Steam is nice for updating, backing up stuff, time-tracking, match-making online games, etc); and other madness. Weigh the options.

I'd say - take it on a case-by-case thing.

Do you like Steam? Then, expect deals to be better and/or more frequent on Steam-versions - especially on regular editions of games (that are without extras).

If game you looking for is being bundled (on places like HumbleBundle, BundleStars, IndieGala, etc), you'll likely find more Steam-versions out there than anything - so it's definitely possible those version will be likely a bit cheaper in the Cesspool (The CAG trade forums); and/or better off buying the game you want in a bundle cheap that might have other games coming with it (that you could sell/trade over in the Cesspool or just straight-up add what you're missing to your Steam account to play or +1).

About SrR + Dragonfall in particular - depends how you want to roll the dice here. Depends on if you want to chance maybe getting it for FREE on GOG during this sale; depends on if you really want a GOG version; really want it on Steam; want both DRM-FREE + Steam-keys; or whatever. Humble Store has something of interest there w/ those. Shadowrun Returns & Shadowrun Dragonfall there on Humble Store are offered with one purchase both the Steam-key version + a DRM-FREE download directly from them.
I rest my case.

So, what you're saying is to get reeeeeally drunk first and then decide? Sounds kinda unwise, but OK.
Nope.

I'm just saying to look at the market for the game; look at best price; see what versions are out there; see what bundles it's in (or not in); see what the DRM is for each version; see what extra goodies are out there in what versions; see what version is the most updated; see what version is in the best shape; etc etc.

Namely - look at the factors that matter to you about a game, before you buy.

Then decide what the version for you is.

Nope.

So what I just read is buy it on steam, again

You typed it I read it. They are your words.
Okay, so there's clearly some kind of unresolved, possibly unrequited sexual tension going on between you two. Maybe you guys should go to counseling or something, I can't imagine it could be any worse than what you've got going on right now.

Like you're not into male roller figure skaters.

Nope. You're being too specific.

It's up to the person to decide what version's for them.

For some people - yes, they're always going to go for Steam-version. Even if it's just for +1's.

For me - eh, maybe Steam; maybe not; maybe DRM-FREE. We'll see. Depends on different factors.

Examples:

I'd rather have Riddick: Dark Athena on GOG than Steam b/c of annoying DRM reasons (i.e. Tages' Online Activation + limited activations is crap).

Tages DRM is NOT in the GOG versions.

I'd rather have Deadly Premonition on Steam b/c that version's still more updated on Steam than on GOG.

In some instances, I'll buy from a place like Humble Bundle to get a game both DRM-FREE + on Steam. You know, the "Best of Both Worlds" thing that I mention quite a bit.

Again - this is a game-by-game thing for me.

Honestly, I kinda wish I kept my old PC games...ya know before you could buy everything direct download. But i'd have sold them all off because........mental patients
The only game I regret selling is BG1 (the first edition). Dat box, CD sleeve and map were GREAT.

I should drink some and buy an Ultima 7 retail from eBay...

I just wasted a half hour in Sam & Max because I could figure out how to save.

Or get to the menu, so I had to shut down my computer to turn off the game.

F5 (Scumm)

I think it was F10 on the original... or it was F1??

Do you mean the folding case w/ the 6 CD slots?

Cool.

Yep, I still got mine....of course. :D

Plus, got the D+D Collection (PST, BG1+2 Complete, TOEE) from Gamersgate.
You must live in a mansion to be able to fit all of those old gigantic boxes. I tossed all my boxes years ago since they took up too much room and have all of the cd's shoved in a binder now.

Excluding Gex (has that made its last run yet?), I got everything I wanted - in addition to things I didn't want, of course. Something like $27.89 for 11 games, most old, some new. Neat.

Now I'm just mucking around to see if I can luck into a freebie.

Also, collecting old PC games was the shit. Beautiful boxes, sweet freebies (or "feelies" as previously used). "Mental" my balls, son. Though let's be honest, PC game boxes downsizing was a good thing, aside from that largely contributing to said freebies disappearing. The bigger boxes would've been better reserved for collector's/limited run games even then, and for every badass game with a box full of swag, there were 20 more with boxes big enough to house the lonely papersleeve disc enclosed *and* your secret porno stash.

No on Gex. 1 more run left.

I'm debating buying it when it pops up.

I really wish there was a way to play Conker's without having to download an emulator.

I'd say it's a fun platformer. Top-notch it isn't, but the design and humor are easily worth two bucks. I actually bought the PSX version recently through PSN for a similar price, but it has password "saves." I don't think the PC version has that quirk. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Hehe! I wish I lived in a mansion and had tons of $!

But. yeah - I still have my BG1 folding case on my shelf right w/ PST's folding case. The huge old gigantic box that the folding-case was in, it's been flattened.

Yeah, so I have a lot of my big game-boxes + some of my smaller boxes flattened and thrown in a box. Some retail boxes are on my game-shelf. A lot of games on CD's + DVD, I've already moved somewhere - if they're in the same franchise, publisher, dev, company etc, they likely have been combined into other boxes (to fully occupy the space of that retail box to its maximum).

Example: I have STALKER Shadow of Chernobyl (SOC) from retail. That box is a DVD-case that has a pole for multiple CD's. I also have STALKER Clear Sky (CS), so I pulled apart the DVD slim-case, threw something else in that case (forget what I put in that case), and put Clear Sky DVD disc in the SOC case on the pole.

Side notes: I also have SOC + Clear Sky on Steam. And I have CS also on Gamersgate DRM-FREE.

Man, you GOG peeps should go hang out with the console kids who are all like EWWW COOTIES DIGITAL and dreading that they'll eventually be dragged kicking and screaming into the digital world while clutching their boxes for dear life. They'll be able to relate more to ya'lls box fetish than normal modern PC gamers would.

The fact that you hold this opinion shows that you've already been infected by digital cooties...it takes over your brain turning you into an anti-retail, drm loving scum sucker

Of fucking course I miss it while putting my nephew down for a nap.

Whatever, I'll pop the PSN version if I want it in the future.

FYI Gex just popped up for $1.99.
Figures when I go to eat lunch and leave CAG for a few minutes, I miss the only game I wanted. :wall:

Haha, we both missed it? Hell of a coincidence. It was just at a bad time, so frustrating.

The worst part is that I usually take my laptop in there so I can tool around while he's falling asleep, but I didn't because it was nearly dead. Just shitty timing.

Had laptop-related issues myself. Game was literally up around the time I left my computer and came back (12:30 to 1). Hate you so much GOG. :bomb:

That Steam version better be happening.

Sucks that the classics are flying off the shelves.
They always do. I have a feeling that the actual OG in GOG is where a majority of their business comes from. The new games are only going to be bought by the drm-shy on gog vs. steam where they are usually cheaper anyway. I just wish GOG would focus on the actual OG part, then again this comes up every sale
